"Happy Days Are Here Again" 1929 by Milton Ager. The song was recorded by Leo Reisman and His Orchestra, with Lou Levin and was used in the 1930 film Chasing Rainbows. The film was about Drunks, Bootlegging and Prohibition and the song was the finale, celebrating the imminent repeal of Prohibition.
The song was originally written, by Yellen & Ager, for a 1929 MGM "talkie musical" called "Chasing Rainbows". It was chosen, at literally the last minute, to be played at a 1932 F.D.R. campaign rally- and that's how it became identified with the "Great Depression" [and "The Lost Generation"]...
