All of his colleagues, from Googoosh, Dariush to Behrooz Vosoughi and many others paid their last respects to Afshin and his family with a great deal of grace and dignity and were in attendance for his funeral. They did so discreetly, and without any fanfare or production. They should serve as an example to some of the spectacles we have been witness to in this era.

Afshin was on his way up to Northern Iran, for a performance he was scheduled to give in a resort town on the coast of Caspian Sea. The road up to the Caspian Sea is a narrow one, and so there is usually a great deal of traffic during the day. Because of this, he chose to go at night. He had a head-on collision with a bus. He was driving. All the passengers walked away with minor injuries. He was twenty-nine. His father had passed ten months before, his youngest daughter was ten days old.

I think that was the biggest blow to the family. Afshin's own father had passed away just ten months prior, Afshin having a daughter who was only ten days old when he died, and the fact that he was so young and the obvious assumption would have been that with the success of his records, he was poised to become even more successful and acclaimed as a singer. It was very sudden, and to this day, thirty-one years later, still a shock to the family. I think we all wonder what could have been.

Yes, Afshin passed away when he was twenty-nine years old in a car crash, just ten days after the birth of his second daughter. He was on his way up to the Caspian Sea to perform.

I was in "Shomal" at the time. An 11 year old kid in holliday with my relatives. I remeber the small newspaper article about a singer dying on the road accident.

My Auntie was reading the news and was sad.
