I Know what he is talking about I have experienced this myself listening to christian music/Klove regularly however I have experienced God's presence even in those places where there isn't a "Music Director" and singing out of a hymnal those are the times I just want to thank God
Music to please your ego and think God is pleased with it , it is nothing else by ego , and it does not glorified Him , and the main thing in worship must be Him .
Is there a particular style or sound of music that you believe to have God's stamp of approval on? Is God satisfied with simple melodies or would perfected symphonies delight Him? Should I caution my 3 year old child to sing only if he can sing on key...or should I encourage him to excel in the gift of music...decisions, decisions....sigh.
@redeemed61100 hi! i guess what you should do is Ask God=) Jeremiah 33:3 CALL UNTO ME AND I WILL ANSWER YOU AND TelL YOU YOU GREAT AND UNSEARABLE THINGS THAT YOU DO NOT KNOW. OUR GOD IS REAL =) talk to him in all things and everything you need, ask Him , for He CARES for you=) He promises us that ALL your ways , acknowledge Him , He will direct our path.(Proverbs 3: 5-6 )you can also ask Him to help you on teaching your kid indeed~ He's our best counselor!
The music of the modern church emphasizes the harmony and rhythm as opposed to the "melody" of God's music. God's music emphasizes the words of God given via the Bible and teaches. Today's Christ-ian secular based music tantalizes the flesh. Many do not know the Satan was as depicted in Ezekiel 28, the cherub who was greatly anointed to lead praise and worship in heaven. But His downfall was His pride and desiring the honor and worship due only God Almighty. Well, the modern church obliges Satan
I don't fully agree. Jesus said make music to him. I'm a musician myself, and I always feel the presence of God. Yes we do have rehearsals ect, but really, God takes control of the worship in the services. How do I know this, I worship God through my music. If God is all powerful, he can move people through music. Also the bible says so many times to make music to him. Heaven is always filled with music.
@sheepany Thats interesting because I also play Jazz band which is regarded to be music. But i don't understand why would it be dangerous when its just background music with no lyrics.
@davo9678 umm... i m thinking of the example of David n Saul, David when he plays harps in front of Saul ( bec of the closeness of David and the spirit of God was in Him ) even his music can drive out the demons in Saul. 1 Samuel 16:23
Whenever the spirit from God came upon Saul, David would take his harp and play. Then relief would come to Saul; he would feel better, and the evil spirit would leave him. Yet does it means that he was singing some lyrics ? it doesnt,
@davo9678 n yet does it reflects indeed the one who's playing the music can bring a different in spiritual realms, Yes , it does. IF a spirit -filled man brings out a music that his heart is glorifying God, it can be used by Heavenly Father to even to open the heart of Stones and give them a heart of flesh yet at the same time, if this man is controlled by fleshy desire what he plays, i believe, it will huv a reverse effect, look at the secular music n its effect u'll know what i mean
@davo9678 for what i think Yes it CAN BE DANGEROUS... but it DOESNT NECESSARY mean no lyric MUST BE DANGEROUS..it really connects to the INTERNAL CONDITION of the person who's playing.yet i guess for all musician out there want to play for God. this is sth that I wanna encourage one another/ a good reminder too ( which also shocks me from time to time )
"Not everyone who says to me, 'Lord, Lord,' will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. Many will say to me on that day, 'Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and in your name drive out demons and perform many miracles?'
Then I will tell them plainly, 'I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!'
@davo9678 the lord constantly reminds me lately, it's not the 'outward action' that people sees you're doing, but but faith that is expressed through love.(Galatians 5:6) coz our heavenly Father knows all hearts n He tests n search the deep things in the heart of a man =)
Be encouraged and Bless you Davo9678, anything you are doing on his little one , you are doing on Jesus, even just playing music when no one out there notices=) God bless you,
@sheepany Thank you sheepany really appreciate it. Yes i am trying to do it for God, but really when Im on stage in circular events, I really only think about the music. The only effect it has on people is that they love it and the music sounds great. We're all dressed up smart and we're not influencing sexual desires or demonic influences. We're just influencing music. But once again thank you and God bless :)
@davo9678 yes i can understand the difficulties that comes with while you are serving on stage, just encouraged by this verse
And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men;You know that your real master will give you an inheritance as your reward. It is Christ, your real master, whom you are serving. " Colossians 3: 24
i've sent you some personal videos too, hope you will be encouraged by it,
The point is clear : seek God on the very first place. Then again, dont blame musicians that only do their very best to prise the Lord with what they have been blessed as a gift. Just to say, by the way, that we should all be doing anyway : doing our best with whatever the Lord gaves us ! Then again, who's to say when and where and how the Lord will let you know aobut His presence ?
Wonder what Washer would say about things like Majesty Music, Soundforth, The Wilds and other BJU and/or other branches of fundamentalist expressions of faith (maybe like Pensacola or Hyles-Anderson). Obviously, music, no matter how well structured in melody and lyrics, potentially can (and do) become idolatrous, no matter how good the intention(s).
2 points, Firstly-the whole Pentecostal idea of conjuring the so called Presence of God via music for ministry opportunity is false christianity, & Secondly, the only means of God being present and working in any place is via the Word that is spoken or sung, that is consistent with correct theology. I believe that in pretty much every church where the music is professional that pt 1 is true and they fail on pt 2 also. This however does not disqualify music from being used in a proper way.
@lasvegastroll "Seeker Sensitive Churches have The BEST Music! I wouldn't attend Anywhere else! " Thanks for your honesty, it is obvious you are in it for the music and possibly very littler else. My church employed the rock n roll freak show. To cut a long story short one of the music lovers molested a boy of 14 years old. If the church was faithful to the hymns this person would have shaped up or shipped out. Put another way he would have ran away from a hymn singing church, exactly my point!
@lasvegastroll I do not think you see the ignorance in this statement. If a Church is "Seeker Sensitive, they do not have the truth or the Spirt", they are a false Church. So your statement says "I don't care about God or desire to obey HIm, I want my flesh satisfied!" - This is not honoring God, examine yourself to see if you are really in the faith.
Some of the most powerful worship times I've experienced are with off-key and out-of-time believers making a joyful noise.
Sadly, many of today's leadership endorse lukewarm pro musician level "polish" and shoves those sincere "noisemakers" out the door in favor of the band that sounds like U2.
@lastdaysguitar Yes that's true in some instances, but I don't believe Paul W. is saying that we should discount a worship team or leader if they are good at what they do, or that they are not being used of God, as the Bible does tell us to do all we do skillfully for the Lord. God gave us our individual talents to serve Him with these gifts. In fact King David is spoken of as a very skilled musician. In love-
@1NationUnder1God3in1 I don't agree with your interpretation of what Paul OR I meant by our words - i.e.: I certainly never said or even implied that Pastor Paul was discounting anyone - the record shows I was only agreeing with his comment about the music.
I've played lead guitar with both "in the spirit" and "out of the spirit" worship teams for 25+ years and I see what Paul is saying is true.
@lastdaysguitar -By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another. John 13:35...I'm sorry, I didn't intend to interpret the comment you made. I love Paul Washer and agreed with this in some instances. Truly I didn't intend on upsetting you, I made my comment because many times the tendancy of some after hearing a warning like this can over do it and discount skilled worshippers. Just presenting the other side of the coin...that's all (:
God created music, & when the Holy Spirit is influencing it is suppose to move you. For example when king David was celebrating & they were playing music he was going nuts praising God while women were singing & instruments all around. God designed it for His Glory, please family don't let the world conform you because they let the enemy twist their music. Music was designed by God to effect the soul, keep praising Him! Glory be to the most high God ! amen
@KYRentertainment You are all over the place here! Firstly can you prove God created music, if so what kind of music? "praising God while women were singing" Where is this written? "David was celebrating & they were playing music he was going nuts" The bible simply reports facts as they happened but does not always support. David also had a man killed so he can sleep with his wife, in fact I can show you a verse where God is being critical of Davids music. Music comes with rules!
Washer's message to be, "very, very careful" is an indictment of his lack of freedom and faith. It is the declaration of a law-based, fear-filled man stressed out at every turn that he is not walking the NARROW path. This is NOT christianity.
@denoinwa Then what about the Paul of the Bible warning churches to be careful concerning favoritism, the lords supper, and other duties? Was he lacking faith and freedom?
@dude853 He is teaching that music and emotion is dangerous apart from God, but the Bible says that where two or three are gathered, HE is there. The power of worship rests first with every individual's heart for the Lord, not a church environment. If the blessing of God's corporate presence is lacking in a church, it could be a symptom of MANY issues, including a law-based outlook of rigidity paranoid of counterfeits. From my experience, THAT kind of thing stifles worship like nothing else.
@denoinwa So then you agree with his message that music and emotion apart from God is dangerous, I dont see what the problem is then. Just because he didnt hit on your points doesnt mean he doesnt agree with you ya know?
@nelsonalfanii Don't take scripture out of context. You are to judge them by the standard of the Bible. Not all preachers are false prophets. You can't avoid God's messengers just because you are afraid they are false. If you really study the Bible and Jesus you should be able to DISCERN which ones are and which are not. Peace to you!
Paranoid religious fanatic. His kids will probably turn atheist. It's a common in families with religious zealots for parents and they don't come any more lunatic fringe than PW. He's like the Taliban of Christianity and deluded beyond hope.
@Hoogz20 Which is why he's insane. Next he'll be advocating stoning homosexuals and unruly children or burning witches and heretics just like the bible commands. He's a throw back to the parochial zealots of the middle ages that tortured heretics and nonbvelievers. No doubt he'd be the first to apply the hot poker.
@socksumi The Bible doesn't command that of US. Actually believers aren't supposed to bring it to a physical battle at all. Anyone who would torture heretics or nonbelievers isn't living according to The Word and has something wrong with themselves. Brush up on your Bible knowledge before you go attacking a man who stays true to God's Word. Paul Washer speaks strong words and he may not always be 100% right but no one ever is. Nothing wrong with preaching the Bible unless your twisting it.
@Hoogz20 That's known as the 'no-true-Scotsman'-fallacy. It's like saying "no true Christian would do this" or "act like that". Also known as the... Christianity-can't-lose argument.
Even if you don't agree with my opinion of PW, surely you must realize how controversial and extreme he is to other Christians. Imagine then how insane he comes across to atheists. Then you will understand the damage he does to Christianity. He chases potential converts away as he preaches only to his own kind.
@socksumi I try not to respond to comments on youtube because I think people(not trying to say you) look for arguments rather than having a fruitful and edifying conversation. So if you wish to continue talking, feel free to inbox me.
@socksumi Are u sure its him that chases potential converts away??!! Heb 4:12. Be careful when you make those comments. Maybe you may change your opinion about PW after closely examining the words echoed in Paul's Epistles and Jesus himself in the gospels (they all are the words of God 2 Tim 3:16). The true gospel exposes man to their nature, revives and expresses to those who believe the grace and love God has for them Jn 3:16-21. No one is suppose to feel "comfortable" after hearing the gospel
@Jushiro90 Dude, haven't I made it clear by now that I'm an atheist? That means I consider biblical scripts and doctrines derived from men (not god), fraudulent, absurd, immoral and in some cases downright offensive. The fact that PW takes the most objectionable, self loathing, man-hating, vitriolic doctrines and launches them in our faces... is icing on the cake for me.
@socksumi I know how you feel because I've been there. But, guess what? God is real. I sometimes wish He wasn't so I can do what I want all the time but He is there. Have you actually read the Bible? Have you really sought after truth? Or have you listened and sought after that which tickles your ear? I hope you keep an open mind and search some more. Truth is what it is and not what you want it to be.
@saveyoursoulyt "Have you really sought after truth? Or have you listened and sought after that which tickles your ear? I hope you keep an open mind and search some more. Truth is what it is and not what you want it to be."
What better advice to take than your own. You are like the blind man telling others they can't see. Demonstrate your absurd claims otherwise there is no reason to believe you.
@socksumi You can take anything out of context and make it seem like whatever you want but pay attention to (A) who's speaking (B) Who's being spoken to (C) The reason for what's being said IN CONTEXT and (D) Other verses on the topic
@Hoogz20 The believers/followers of the bible are the ones who spin scripture to make it say what they want. I've heard some absurd justifications for sick atrocities... anything as long as it supports their perception of a "good god". Blatantly violent passages do not obfuscate context. There is no context in which acts like repeatedly smashing the skulls of infants against rocks as they slowly die is righteous and just. No amount of sophistry will alter what is clearly barbarism and sadism.
Jesus said, "For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them." [Matthew 18:20] - He didn't say anything about whether there's music around or not.
i agree...there's a worship team whose music is great and sometimes i get distracted but the lyrics are pure worship and I know when I focus on the words and the adoration that is being given to God, it doesn't just become listening to music, it becomes worship.
@amantheonlyMediator - so why aren't atheists believers? And that is not what he was saying - no wonder so many Christians are so lost - ya'll are so stupid.
Also, if you have relationship problems, that is the perfect time to start worshiping Jesus. I once read in a prophetic writing, "Therefore, you must not seek relationships, but true worship. Only then can relationships start to be what they are supposed to be."
Curry also said, "You're going to grieve the Holy Spirit because you're talking? We're talking about the God of heaven and earth, we're talking about the greatest, mightiest warrior that's ever lived, you don't want to grieve him because he's like a dove, he'll fly away, but your talking's not going to grieve him. It might distract the preacher, but it certainly does not distract the Holy Spirit."
Oh yeah, and you don't need an atmosphere. Curry Blake said, "Wonderful if you could get one. Jesus didn't have one. 'O come on boys, I feel the anointing, sing that song I like, if you hit that note just right, I think the Spirit will hit.' Jesus didn't have the black brothers quartet walking around him at Galilee." John G. Lake once held services next to the masonic lodge- so much for atmosphere! If God is omnipresent, and promised he'll never leave nor forsake us, feedback can't ruin worship.
I don't think all worship music can be dangerous. On the streets, we see many people preaching the gospel for perverted reasons, but there are some people on the streets that have honest intentions, as much as people that work in cathedrals. I realized that I can never be God, that we are dust so to speak (and you being God is the oldest lie in the book, with Adam and Eve)... so knowing I'm not God makes me want to worship God. Not for what we could get out of it, but because HE IS WORTHY!
I agree. I have gone to a lot of church were in the middle of a sermon the pastor would have the worship team come up. I got so disappointed. While they was talking the band played, as if his words were not enough, and he needed to make people emotional with music.
I Know what he is talking about I have experienced this myself listening to christian music/Klove regularly however I have experienced God's presence even in those places where there isn't a "Music Director" and singing out of a hymnal those are the times I just want to thank God

Hoogz20 5 months ago

I agree with Washer, that our faith should be based on logic, rather than feelings.
I don't want to be singing a little "Kumbayah".

@amantheonlyMediator - so why aren't atheists believers? And that is not what he was saying - no wonder so many Christians are so lost - ya'll are so stupid.

this preacher knows what he is talking about.

Not for what we could get out of it, but because HE IS WORTHY!

in my last church they use to do that...
gooksound 11 months ago
I agree. I have gone to a lot of church were in the middle of a sermon the pastor would have the worship team come up. I got so disappointed. While they was talking the band played, as if his words were not enough, and he needed to make people emotional with music.
