He's messing around before he lays down the solo on "Kiss A Girl"......On the studio version.....the solo is played with a slide...if you see him live, he plays without the slide....but none the less it's played with a slide...Take a listen...you can hear the slide with delay and reverb....

The thing on his pinky finger is a guitar slide and as its name suggests you use it if you want to play slide guitar as Keith does in this video.
