It takes skill, absolutely. I know because I do it but I have also ridden a motorcycle on a track and I can tell you first hand those racers are some of the best athletes in the world. When you put everything it takes together to race a motorcycle in excess of 150 mph inches from another motorcycle doing in excess of 150 mph there is no comparison.

Most motorcycles (except BMWs) use what they call a "wet clutch". The entire clutch housing is encased in oil and designed to be "ridden". When performing maneuvers like this, you are always in the "friction zone" between full engaged clutch and fully disengaged clutch.
