@iamavet JFK didn't want a war there. He wanted to withdraw them. Johnson is the one who wanted it badly. Besides, I didn't see Nixon act so fast on withdrawing them like he said he wanted to.
JFK would be a moderate republican today, but he did begin to turn against a lot of the forces that controlled him in 1963 which is what got him killed.
JFK was a dove? Let's see...Bay of Pigs Invasion, 16000 troops to Vietnam, military blockade of Cuba, containment of communism...hardly anything a true "Dove" would've done. I don't know why Matthews loves Jack Kennedy so much, he was an internationalist on foreign policy, and on economics: cut taxes, reduced the deficit, and believed in a market economy. A Republican by modern context, oh yeah, he also voted against the 1957 civil rights act...
What a joke, JK belligerently invaded Cuba and that caused the Cuban Missile Crisis.
Read Chomsky or Hersh on War-Criminal maniac Kennedy and his massacres in South Vietnam and Cuba, not stylized, Hollywood creeps like Matthews and Maher.
@qwertypoiu4321 Kennedy foolishly caved to his generals when he authorized the bay of pigs. He promptly fired Dulles and others after that debacle, and learned to stand up to the generals.
I love how we can't even agree on something that happened 50 years ago. Chris Matthews is right, JFK was the voice of reason. Andrew Sullivan is kind of a dick.
Let me finish fag.
