I am going to buy a 1tb seagates hard drive, new from the strore for 100 euros. What do you guys think, is it worth it? (sorry bad english) pm me if you can. THX.
Question? I have a Maxor 320gb external hard drive and for some reason the had drive with start loading on it's own with out me touch it? I have had the drive for 6yrs Now! Is it dieing on me? and what is the best brand of external hard drive to replace it with? Beside Lacie?

If WD is the actual external device inside Lacie's exterior then i don't think its worth it. I am afraid of WD since mine got messed up with all my data. They offer great prices but durability is not guaranteed unless the exterior was the main contributory factor to its short life span.
PS. Jeff, If you are aware of the fact that there is a distinct difference between Lacie and the actual manufacturer then why didn't ur video establish that. It's ok to admit you never knew
To each his own. In my opinion Seagate has better options, 500gb at 7200 rpm..legit. Who needs an aluminum casing for a desktop drive..what are you going to play football with it?
hi Brov ..i wanna to buy a hard drive(500 GB) ..but im confused which one is best...seagate or WEster digital....seagate 500 Gb 32 MB cache and WD 500 GB 8 MB Cache...which one is best?
I have one Seagate with 500gb and one with 1tb, Im not sure if their like the best. But they do run smoothly and I've never encountered any problems with them.
omg , i have western digital elemants 500 gb , it has a solid steal case with rubber sleves on each end, why would u say lacie is amazing when i bearly even hear or see them, so they cant be that good
Had the exact same LaCie 250gb drive you show in this vid. After a year it started making noise. Some time after that it started 'choking', working again with a light but firm smack on the top.
Finally after ~20 months it started making the scariest "harddrivenoises" you'd ever heard.. As if the spinning disk was trying to cut through rock, whilst a hammer smacked the casing every second.
All externals are mechanical, therefore, prone to failure. However, LaCie (pronounced, "La See") has a fairly good track record in terms of reliability and build (based professional and real world consumer reviews from Newegg, Amazon, and Toms Hardware). Plus, the Neil Poulton design externals are sexy.
Read the reviews @ Amazon. Seagate's Freeagents, Maxtor's Onetouch drives... MANY horror stories with one common theme, FAILURE!!!
My 300GB Onetouch III USB as well as my Freeagent 750GB units are operating okay (both are about 2 years old). That said, wish I'd seen the multitude of negative reviews as I would have stayed clear of both.
Still looking for a very reliable external drive to migrate files onto... before it's too late. Lacie? Will look into it.
you keep admiring the casing of lacie drives... just becuase the casing is "nice" doesnt mean the drive inside is good. I've been told many times that the brand company lacie only make the casing, not the drive... so be careful when choosing an HD, lacie wants you to buy their HDs because the eye candy.
Completely true. The drives they don't make (at least I checked), I believe they use Seagate drives.
Nonetheless, enclosure is also important for protective reasons. There's a lot more information I could delve into here perhaps I need to make an updated video.
Your idea for custom drive making is great, As if your buying a new internal drive to replace your old drive, but dont want to trash it, you can make it into an external drive and use it for extra space. that could practically give you a terabyte of space
I have 1,320 GB worth of external HD, I own 3 hard drives and I am about to need to get an other one. I buy the hard drives that run off USB power alone. They seem to give me no issues. I bought a Western Digital HD that needed to be pluged into a power source for its cooling system. I take care of my electronics, so I dusted and cleaned everything I own about once every 2 months. It lasted me about 13 months. I would recomend to get a small HD (IN PHYSICAL SIZE) that gets power from a USB port
my room mate bought a lacie 6 months back and it is completely unusable. He says its a waste of money...he bought a new one now anyway but not lacie...even the service is very slow
currently my only external hard drive is a La Cie. I bought a 500GB F.A. Porsche USB drive. the transfer speed is a little slow because it's usb, and it isn't as quiet as my internal one. it also gets quite warm when it's been in use for a while. but overall it is a good drive. inside it's a seagate drive, which is very good :D
The passports are decent. Like I said, WD drives are great, I'm just a fan of the LaCie external drives due to their enclosure quality and feature sets.
I bought a lacie hard drive. It is a small 250 GB hard drive and it very nice and and very small. It has an orange case around it. I intalled leopard onto it and i also use time machine with it and my laptop is going to the apple store for repair and i wanted to make sure that wen I transfer everything back with migration assistant will I have an extra copy of my stuff because i one copy on my leopard partition and one copy with time machine. Nice video!

I love Lacie too, but she dont dance anymore! lol! Forgive me for sounding dumb, but, I need an external backup storage device, and I am from the old school and I use the zip drives and I know there are better ones out there now. Could you guide me in the right direction, I have tons of photoshop and illustrator files and thousands of pic, I need to save and backup, Help! Thanks!

does this guy know that lacie doesnt actually manufacture drives...?
they only create exterior casings for them. the harddrive isn't made by lacie, only the exterior.

I got a 500 GB Lacie. Wroked ok for 5 months, then started making noises. Was still working ok, but yesterday it just gave up.
I had the thing on at all times. Maybe external drives arent suppposed to be on all the time...(??)
At any rate, Im going 2 buy a more "robust" external drive, as I have lost faith in Lacie.
I did research, and found out mine wasnt an isoldated incidnent. (so I'm not writing it off as a lemon...)

I was just wondering if Western Digital external hard drives a good? On a scale of 1 to 10 what would you say you say?
Thanks
