To put things into perspective firebombs use napalm as a gel that allows the flames to stick to the flesh of its victims, and the gasoline smell that Kilgore notes is the fuel that allows the explosion to ignite in the first place. The explosion can reach upwards of 2000 degrees Fahrenheit and the gel is so hot that it can give you third degree burns just by making contact with your skin and if left unattended it can seep down to the bone. Painful way to die, still smells like victory though.
