not undermining wambach, she totally deserves credit but that was all pinoe. that ball couldn't have been any better. i feel that she hasn't been given credit at all in the media.
Abby and the WNT for sure!! Down a goal in EXTENDED TIME of EXTRA TIME!! Down a player for more than HALF the match!! The Brazilian keeper was up and fully committed to play. This was one of the most amazing moments in soccer history, not just for women soccer. Not to say Donovan's wasn't good... way to follow through to the keeper for the rebound ball. Just not better than Abby's... and perfect cross by Pinoe!
@beanie3151987 I'd say Donovan, cause yeah they both got set up for an untended goal, the difference is Abby wasn't anywhere near the play until the last second (honestly Pinoe really deserves the credit on that one), and Donovan started the play where he ended up getting the Goal (he pretty much did most of the leg-work.).
wambach by far. first, uswnt were down 2-1 against BRAZIL. ranked fourth in the world. the men were tied with algeria is ranked 32nd. donovans goal was a rebound while the goalie was down. on wambach's goal it was a fantastic header, flawlessly placed between the defender and the goalkeeper.
Wambachs by a mile.... The usmnt should have raped Algeria and it shouldn't even have come down to a last second goal. It wasn't really that impressive.
Announcer at the beginning: (given up hope) "The US has made a heartfelt attempt." Hahahaha he was totally talking about how they weren't going to win BUT SUCK ITTTT
Who the fuck is abby wambach?! go to europe, south america, north america, asia, and mention landon donovan they will know him, love him or hate you you know him. I didn't even know who aby wambach is. Donovan is not overrated...even though dempsey is way better.
reason why us mens went home is because theres a lot of competition in us soccer, you got ronaldo, rooney, messi, etc. These are the best players in the world. Women's soccer does not have a competiton at all and I'm not bashing womens soccer, but you need to admit, women soccer don't have an elite player like nor do they have a top league like the epl la liga etc. The fact that mens soccer went to the world cup is impressive.
@Filip3anut There are "Elite Players" Marta, Kelly Smith, Abby Wambach, etc. In a few years Womans soccer/football will be more popular. the womans game isnt what it used to be. Theres isnt just Mia Hamm. And if you dont know who Wambach is, then howd you get here? Most of the related videos are about her....
@Filip3anut messi was a joke in the world cup and rooney was knocked out of it and we didnt even play ronaldo and mens u.s. gets to the wold cup every time they just dnt go very far and womens here are some marta from brazil wambach chastane morgan and many others to many to say but i know mens is much bigger than womens
@steamingmidget Messi is never a joke?! that whole comment was a joke. I'm not tryin to be a dick but really, I've never heard of marta, wambach chastane until you mentioned them. Morgan is hot though!
I love reading the "debates" on these goals. I love watching this game. Both are leaders. Both were in the right place, at the right time. Both teams faced immanent elimination. They are both professionals, and are enlisted and called upon our services for a reason.
@ChrisSantos1794 may i inform you that Abby Wambach is a leader too? Personally, I think Donovan's goal was more like a "right place right time" thing. I'm sure if anyone else, including all soccer players in the world, professional or non-professional, would've done the same thing. I somewhat agree with BreastInspector saying he is overrated. This is the perfect example. Abby's goal saved the game the same way Donovan's did but he gets all the credit. UNFAIR.
I saw both of them live, and in all honesty I'm more impressed by Wambach's goal. While Donovan did very well, you had this feeling throughout the game that the US were going to win it. While for Wambach, they were trailing 2-1 and were down a man(woman) with less than 30 seconds left before they'd be eliminated. Have to go with Wambach on this one.
TOTALLY ABBY'S GOAL. NO DOUBT ABOUT IT. and to everybody that says that Donovan's was "needed", SO WAS ABBY'S. ITS FUNNY HOW EVEN THOUGH THE MENS TEAM TOTALLY SUCK THEY GET MORE ATTENTION AND CREDIT. THEY SAY "SAY NO TO RACISM", WELL I SAY SAY NO TO SEXISM!!!
Both goal savers were good, but Donovan's goal was better. Donovan saved the USMNT. The USWNT might be better, BUT the USMNT did a great job and the goal was important.
Donovan's goal was probably watched by more people and I think bigger only because of the respective draw of the men's team compared to the women's national team. However, the atmosphere for Wambach's goal was better because the match was against Brazil, and played in a proper football country, Germany, and there wasn't those idiotic vuvuzelas. Donovan's goal would sound much better with a jump in crowd noise like Wambach's but those stupid trumpets drown everything out.
@BreastsInspector really cause im pretty sure donovan is a leader, one of the best if not the best USA soccer player to have ever existed, and has talent and skill. im not denying your logic with wambach. she was the landon donovan of the women's division. you are just retarded by saying he is overrated
i say draw... both goals were vital to both teams Donovan to keep the mens team alive and put them in the round of 16...Wambach to tie the game and keep the womens team alive and a chance to beat brazil in PKs
Wambach, easy. The cross was perfect, the header was technical and strong. All Donovan had to do was tap it in. Granted, it was right in time, but no where near as difficult or impressive as Wambach's.
The best part of Landon Donovan's goal, besides the fact that it saved the US from elimination, is that it was literally so epic that the vuvuzelas had been drowned out by the crowd!
The women's team was better down a player, refs making a ton of bad calls, Brazil faking there injury's the last half of the game. Both were great but the Women's team and what they went threw that game.
I wathced the USA-ALG game with my grandpa. I remember pacing around the living room thinking we were going to be eliminated. When this goal went in I was jumping up and down screaming my head off. He was never really watched soccer, and he wasn't as mobile as he used to be but he was smiling and applauding in his chair. If he were ten or even five years younger he would've been jumping up and down with me, Donovan's just has more significance to me. Both were brilliantly suspensful.
Wambach. Hands down. Donovan tapped it in easy off the rebound with no one around him to get ahead from a 0-0 tie. Wambach put a perfect header right past two players and the keeper off an inhumanly awesome lefty cross from rapinoe to tie the game in injury time of overtime. So yeah, Wambach.
At 1st I was wondering, who's Wambach. Now I think it's an insult for Donovan to compare him with her. Compare Wambach to Mia Ham. & compare Donovan to Podolski, or even the great Georgi Hagi.
@hocoking123 You must be kidding. The mens team would destroy the womens team. Take any top womens team against any top mens team and the men will win.
Donovan's goal was amazing, but there is no question that Wambach's was better. Donovan's goal was basically a tap-in, and Wambach's goal was just BUTTER.
Both Goals were HUGE for US Soccer!! I give the edge to Abby's cause it was against Brazil, a favorite to win the world cup. Landon's was great, but let's be honest. He just cleaned up the scrap from a team we were supposed to beat and almost didn't. Plus, look at what each team did with the next game. Women victory, Men Loss. Abby's goal by far was the better goal!!
Abbys... It was a knockout game, over time, and a more exciting game. Donovan.... ehhhhh. We're not that good at mens soccer so it really doesnt mean anything.
I'm not meaning to shit in anyone's cheerios here, but at I've seen probably half the dives in women's soccer/football than I have in men's. Also I'm a guy before anyone accuses me of being some irritating feminist twat. I'm just saying, women player's tend to only stay down when they at least have "some" contact. Not to say women don't dive, it just happens less and less obviously when it does.
Wambach's goal changed the tournament more by far. Brazil was favorites going into the match and the USA was a girl down for almost half the game, and still won. This knocked out Brazil, who many expected to go all the way.
Both goals were equally "big" for their time. Donovan scored in extra time minutes before the US was eliminated due to poor officiating and won the US's first group win in 80 years. Wambach scored in extra time with a man down capping a spirited US fight back from the abyss.
Wambach! 1) it was in extra time during the overtime. 2) they were playing a player down. 3) Erika (Brazilian) faked an injury to waste 4 minutes. 4) They beat France during the semis (next game). 5) They made it to the finals. 6) Yea, they lost. But it was an exciting (pk game) and heart breaking game. I'm tired of giving USMNT credit because they are terrible. Making it to the sweet 16 is nothing to really be proud of.
@DrSurprise but the wombach goal didn't win them the match, and the group. Now both goals were incredibly important in both matches, it's just that, the WNT had to finish in penalties where Hope Solo came up big for the team. On the other hand, the entire US/Algeria game, the USMNT was getting every call against them it seemed at that goal by Donovan, it didn't show, started by a throw from a Tim Howard save, so Donovan basically lead the team to the victory. Thats why i believe LDs is better.
@DrSurprise Lol the usa was technically losing. Without the goal they were out of the tournament. Landon donovans goal was something I will remember for my entire life. The womens world cup is the JV cup. Mens is the varsity.
@OpGorAleTurKorpik Both were needed, both were good, but equalizing and forcing penalties in a QF is "better" than snatching a win in a group match to ensure a spot in the last 16, in my opinion
@DrSurprise In that respect how is Donovan's any less important? Without that goal the US would have tied and been eliminated from the competition because of coming in 3rd in their group.
@DrSurprise if it is more epic its not because they were losing in my opinion..donovans goal was just the same..they tied they were going home...if you think its more epic(wambachs) I'd have to say it was b/c they were playing Brasil
@DrSurprise Donovan doesn't score...USA goes home. Donovan scores, USA moves on. I love both goals I don't have a favorite, they're equally important although the gender card makes Donovans more important.
Definitely ABBY WAMBACH'S goal. It was in a bigger game(Quarterfinals), the mens team hasnt even made it that far in a while. It was the latest goal scored in Fifa cup history(at the time). ANNNND they were 1 man down! The guys werent a man down with their goal.......
@WebFactoryStudio Lol are you daft? maybe the USA men's team isn't nearly as good as the european teams, but the women's world cup goal was crazy. an amazing cross. amazing header, and it was poetic justice too lol
This video doesnt show it but Wambach scored with just under a minute left in extended time. They had already played 120 minutes and were into stoppage time...the men had four minutes left and it only got them out of the group stage for them to lose the next game. whereas the women actually made it to the final. Both goals were amazing, but the women's goal meant more
Donovan's. He created that play. Rapinoe is the one who should get credit for the US Women's goal. Also honestly the talent level on the men's game is a step above the women's game so that is taken into consideration. Tougher competition on the biggest stage in the world and did nearly all of it unlike Wambach? Donovan wins.
Donovans meant so much more simply because the mens world cup just means so much more to the world. I dont mean to be sexist, but thats how it is, To be honest, no one really cares who wins the womens world cup.
No question Donovan's more significant. Here is why I say that. Now they are both great goals. USA women have already established themselves. The Men are trying to establish themselves as a team to be respected by the world. Also Wambach didnt even create the play whereas Donovan did with Howard's help. Also no offense to any women, but Men's soccer is more respected and there are more powerful teams then in woman's soccer
You can't decide which was better by how stylized the goal was. Sure it was a header, but if Donovan were in that same place, at that same time, wouldn't he take the shot? It's vice-versa with Abby. You can't decide. They were both unique, and both very good.
Both were terrific, but I give the edge to Donovan. The play he scored on was set up by Howard and himself, where Rapinoe did all of the work for Wambach. With all of the things that had gone wrong for the US in that World Cup because of the officials, that goal kinda stuck it to them and said, "were not going anywhere quite yet."
@velociber plus the fact that the Womens goal was with them playing with a man down because Buehler got the red card earlier in the match. And then when one of the Brazilian players pretended to get hurt to waste time, only to come back onto the field sprinting, c'mon that was one of the most perfect wins ever
@velocibear yeah Algeria is one of the best teams in Africa, But Brazil is one of the best teams in the world, with arguably the best player, Marta. And if you remember all the bad calls from the womens game like hope solo's save that was reversed. And the women had even less time on the clock. Donovan's goal was great but Abby's was just a little bit better
donovans goal should not have been so awesome if the refs didnt rob us twice once vs slovenia and then the dempsey goal vs algeria which he was clearly onsides, hey i know most 3rd world countries hate the usa but this isnt our military or governemnt
This isnt even a question. Was Donavans goal great, yeah. But Abby Wambachs was maybe the best play I've ever seen, having to bring the ball all the way up the pitch and that sick cross and all of this as the announcer was saying that the US had no chance. Plus look at who they were playing, Algeria?????? that shoulda been an easy win
@TheAnthony122500 You cleary don't follow soccer, do you. Algeria is pretty good, certainly one of the better african teams. Plus Donovan's was so great because the refs seemed determined to not allow us to advance to the next round, and we had no hope at the end of extra time, and then bam. Game.
easily wambachs, beautiful finish of a perfect cross. on top of that, the goal went on the make national soccer relevant in the states. plus its nice to have your team winning more than their losing. im a 100% supporter of the mnt but we dont finish teams off that we should beat.
They're both great! not just one but both! and for those who say it wasnt exceptional, go score in either the 90th or 121st minutes on a header or lucky reflection to win against brazil or algeria, bet ya cant!
Both give me chills and made me cry like a baby but I gotta give it to Abby. There was more at stake, it was a redemption of the 2007 semi final, and they were down a player for a WHOLE HOUR.
Donovan's is better. FIrst off, it's men's soccer. So the worst of goals would be better than the best of women's. Secondly, as I said, it's men's soccer.
Both. USA has THE most exciting team to watch

hocoking123 3 months ago 2
@hocoking123 You must be kidding. The mens team would destroy the womens team. Take any top womens team against any top mens team and the men will win.

Wambachh! hers was talent. Donovvans was just luck..
56soccergurl 3 months ago
Donovan's goal was amazing, but there is no question that Wambach's was better. Donovan's goal was basically a tap-in, and Wambach's goal was just BUTTER.
cantoan 3 months ago
Both Goals were HUGE for US Soccer!! I give the edge to Abby's cause it was against Brazil, a favorite to win the world cup. Landon's was great, but let's be honest. He just cleaned up the scrap from a team we were supposed to beat and almost didn't. Plus, look at what each team did with the next game. Women victory, Men Loss. Abby's goal by far was the better goal!!
mebillica 3 months ago
Abbys... It was a knockout game, over time, and a more exciting game. Donovan.... ehhhhh. We're not that good at mens soccer so it really doesnt mean anything.
IAmTheisen 3 months ago
I'm not meaning to shit in anyone's cheerios here, but at I've seen probably half the dives in women's soccer/football than I have in men's. Also I'm a guy before anyone accuses me of being some irritating feminist twat. I'm just saying, women player's tend to only stay down when they at least have "some" contact. Not to say women don't dive, it just happens less and less obviously when it does.
UltimaWeaponDeux 3 months ago
Considering the women's world cup doesn't matter and the world cup is the biggest tournament in the world, I'd probably have to say Donovan's.
pholmes003 3 months ago
Wambach's goal changed the tournament more by far. Brazil was favorites going into the match and the USA was a girl down for almost half the game, and still won. This knocked out Brazil, who many expected to go all the way.
Both goals were equally "big" for their time. Donovan scored in extra time minutes before the US was eliminated due to poor officiating and won the US's first group win in 80 years. Wambach scored in extra time with a man down capping a spirited US fight back from the abyss.

WAMBACH
MrSoccer12321 3 months ago 3
Making it to the sweet 16 is nothing to really be proud of.

donovans goal was easy, wambach had to work for it!! wambach all the way!!!!

Wambach's goal was more epic in that USA was losing and she saved the USA.
DrSurprise 3 months ago 22
@DrSurprise but the wombach goal didn't win them the match, and the group. Now both goals were incredibly important in both matches, it's just that, the WNT had to finish in penalties where Hope Solo came up big for the team. On the other hand, the entire US/Algeria game, the USMNT was getting every call against them it seemed at that goal by Donovan, it didn't show, started by a throw from a Tim Howard save, so Donovan basically lead the team to the victory. Thats why i believe LDs is better.
ASUNDIN1710 2 months ago
@DrSurprise Lol the usa was technically losing. Without the goal they were out of the tournament. Landon donovans goal was something I will remember for my entire life. The womens world cup is the JV cup. Mens is the varsity.

but would you rather have sex with men or women?
DrSurprise 2 months ago
@DrSurprise Actually, the US needed Donovan's goal in order to advance past the group stage. So he also saved the USA...
OpGorAleTurKorpik 2 months ago 17
@OpGorAleTurKorpik Both were needed, both were good, but equalizing and forcing penalties in a QF is "better" than snatching a win in a group match to ensure a spot in the last 16, in my opinion
Rednasyl28 2 months ago
@OpGorAleTurKorpik so pretty much what you said
arodgerdodger 1 month ago
@DrSurprise In that respect how is Donovan's any less important? Without that goal the US would have tied and been eliminated from the competition because of coming in 3rd in their group.

@DrSurprise You are fucking stupid... that's all that needs to be said.

why am I stupid? All I did was give my opinion. If you didn't like my opinion then too bad you speech censoring troll!
DrSurprise 1 month ago
@DrSurprise if it is more epic its not because they were losing in my opinion..donovans goal was just the same..they tied they were going home...if you think its more epic(wambachs) I'd have to say it was b/c they were playing Brasil
arodgerdodger 1 month ago
@DrSurprise Donovan doesn't score...USA goes home. Donovan scores, USA moves on. I love both goals I don't have a favorite, they're equally important although the gender card makes Donovans more important.

Definitely ABBY WAMBACH'S goal. It was in a bigger game(Quarterfinals), the mens team hasnt even made it that far in a while. It was the latest goal scored in Fifa cup history(at the time). ANNNND they were 1 man down! The guys werent a man down with their goal.......
hrkrhghtste47 3 months ago
I like most the ABBY'S goal...
dragongirl1980 3 months ago
I think you need to have Ian Darke's commentary of Wambach's goal for this to be a fair comparison.

TheColtsfan473 3 months ago
This video doesnt show it but Wambach scored with just under a minute left in extended time. They had already played 120 minutes and were into stoppage time...the men had four minutes left and it only got them out of the group stage for them to lose the next game. whereas the women actually made it to the final. Both goals were amazing, but the women's goal meant more
liljoey40 3 months ago
@liljoey40 the men's were also into stoppage time
devious623 3 months ago
Donovan's. He created that play. Rapinoe is the one who should get credit for the US Women's goal. Also honestly the talent level on the men's game is a step above the women's game so that is taken into consideration. Tougher competition on the biggest stage in the world and did nearly all of it unlike Wambach? Donovan wins.
xMYVxPOPisDEADx 3 months ago
Donovans meant so much more simply because the mens world cup just means so much more to the world. I dont mean to be sexist, but thats how it is, To be honest, no one really cares who wins the womens world cup.
LostFaceify 3 months ago
Morgan reacted immediately, but Tobin Heath had a delayed reaction to the goal.
whenvaporsvanish 3 months ago
Wambach's goal is awesome when seen from the other side of the field.
whenvaporsvanish 3 months ago
No question Donovan's more significant. Here is why I say that. Now they are both great goals. USA women have already established themselves. The Men are trying to establish themselves as a team to be respected by the world. Also Wambach didnt even create the play whereas Donovan did with Howard's help. Also no offense to any women, but Men's soccer is more respected and there are more powerful teams then in woman's soccer
TheSleve22 3 months ago
you should have used Ian Darke's reaction for that goal Wambach scored too! but a great video, that was!

Can't decide. Glad we have them both. :)
TheMrLandon 3 months ago 22
You can't decide which was better by how stylized the goal was. Sure it was a header, but if Donovan were in that same place, at that same time, wouldn't he take the shot? It's vice-versa with Abby. You can't decide. They were both unique, and both very good.
ryanflippinharris 3 months ago
Both were terrific, but I give the edge to Donovan. The play he scored on was set up by Howard and himself, where Rapinoe did all of the work for Wambach. With all of the things that had gone wrong for the US in that World Cup because of the officials, that goal kinda stuck it to them and said, "were not going anywhere quite yet."
DrumlineAJ 3 months ago
Donovan hands down, sure it was a header but seriously if she missed that she shouldnt be playing soccer, donovans meant more...
bstein001 3 months ago
@velociber plus the fact that the Womens goal was with them playing with a man down because Buehler got the red card earlier in the match. And then when one of the Brazilian players pretended to get hurt to waste time, only to come back onto the field sprinting, c'mon that was one of the most perfect wins ever
TheAnthony122500 3 months ago
@velocibear yeah Algeria is one of the best teams in Africa, But Brazil is one of the best teams in the world, with arguably the best player, Marta. And if you remember all the bad calls from the womens game like hope solo's save that was reversed. And the women had even less time on the clock. Donovan's goal was great but Abby's was just a little bit better
TheAnthony122500 3 months ago
donovans goal should not have been so awesome if the refs didnt rob us twice once vs slovenia and then the dempsey goal vs algeria which he was clearly onsides, hey i know most 3rd world countries hate the usa but this isnt our military or governemnt
chorchi1119 4 months ago
This isnt even a question. Was Donavans goal great, yeah. But Abby Wambachs was maybe the best play I've ever seen, having to bring the ball all the way up the pitch and that sick cross and all of this as the announcer was saying that the US had no chance. Plus look at who they were playing, Algeria?????? that shoulda been an easy win
TheAnthony122500 4 months ago
@TheAnthony122500 You cleary don't follow soccer, do you. Algeria is pretty good, certainly one of the better african teams. Plus Donovan's was so great because the refs seemed determined to not allow us to advance to the next round, and we had no hope at the end of extra time, and then bam. Game.
velocibear 4 months ago
As a great goal. I have to say Wambach. And what a cross from Rapinoe!
sgtcrab1 4 months ago
......um Alex Morgan ...... duh
21Rushisaband12 4 months ago
easily wambachs, beautiful finish of a perfect cross. on top of that, the goal went on the make national soccer relevant in the states. plus its nice to have your team winning more than their losing. im a 100% supporter of the mnt but we dont finish teams off that we should beat.
mikeyYvang 4 months ago
They're both great! not just one but both! and for those who say it wasnt exceptional, go score in either the 90th or 121st minutes on a header or lucky reflection to win against brazil or algeria, bet ya cant!

By far Landon Donovan, if it wasn't for his goal the U.S would not have gone to the round of 16. And as other's mentioned it's men's soccer.
shega51 4 months ago
Both give me chills and made me cry like a baby but I gotta give it to Abby. There was more at stake, it was a redemption of the 2007 semi final, and they were down a player for a WHOLE HOUR.
