Oh my gosh! That's DEBI?!?!?! She's changed a lot since I knew her in my Costuming (aka "wardrobe") days!
At Disneyland, wardrobe people used to get your costume for you, but the lines were long. This system is faster but puts the onerous on the CM to get his own costume and it cut the # of wardrobe people needed, though "backline" is horrific!
I will say this: Used to be that Wardrobe was an elite position. You either xfered in, knew someone, or got lucky. Times changed.
Oh my, I used to work in costuming back in 06'..it was my 1st job...what i am still amazed is the people who are still there. The job was not difficult at all...it was all memory. I guess somethings will never change. Sign*
i used to be a disneyland cast member in 2009....i'm surprised disney is posting footage of backstage, but i have to say, they deserve the recognition!! costuming was always very hard working and i did wonder how they did all they would do!! thanks costuming :)
@TheDISNEY365 It can be confusing and just like at the mall, one size in one costume doesn't mean that you need the same size in another... Trial and error! ;-)
I love 'Every Role A Staring Role'! I hope it's not just me in thinking a Disney job is the greatest job on the planet. I just want to run away and work at a Disney park.
@divacat80 The hygiene is taken care of because when a cast member returns their costumes, they are washed/dry cleaned, looked over for any repairs and put away. I'm guessing they do this, so that costumes can be reused (a way of wasting less) and I'm guessing cast members wouldn't have to individually go and purchase the costumes themselves, I'm betting it can get expensive. Plus, this makes everything easier for newer employees, this way they have their costumes now, instead of later.
so... then each cast member shares the costumes with the rest? i can understand if they do, but i don't think i would like that! i would like to be the only one who wears my clothes. the more i think about it lots of personal hygiene issues come to my mind
the detergent that would be used always made me itchy, even though i would wear an undershirt. that's why i would check out all 5 pieces at once, take them home, and then wash them there.
Haha, I love how everyone is saying how awesome the tower of terror and haunted mansion costumes are, and they're the most expensive costumes of all! ^_^
I had a coworker that worked in Disneyland at the same time. He got to be Prince Charming, and Pluto, and some of the other charactors.
