This is where lineage counts, first & second generation....after that, credit the other lines that influence the greatness of the horse. Three cheers for them too!! : )
Dialed In, trained by Nick Zito, is at this point (4/21/11) one of the favorites for the 2011 KY. Derby. The horse is by Miss Doolittle, a Storm Cat mare.
@xxcrystlecityxx Lady's Secret was the better runner on the track, and was named horse of the year in 1986. In fact, Lady's Secret won a race at Saratoga which her father, Secretariat, actually lost in in 1973. As I read an account of that race, as she came down the strecth to the wire, the announcer said that one's got to be for Pop. Terlingua became the better broodmare. Giving birth to Storm Cat pretty much says it all, becoming the best stallion of the last few decades.
I worked for Overbrook. She was retired there in a field with a friend to keep her company. Her days were lots of sun, space and feed. She was a great horse to meet. I would groom her from time to time while she would be grazing in her field. She was a one of a kind horse! She was very old for a horse. But wonderful.
I had the opportunity to work with her at Overbrook and she was truly a great mare to deal with. You knew she was a queen and she never let you forget it.Had the presence of a true champion, though I don't care much for storm cat personally (he's a rather onery cuss !) his mother was fantastic and you could definitely see the secretariat in her anytime you looked at her. Rest in peace beautiful girl, you aged with grace. Good bye my friend.
I'm a major Terlingua fan and have quite a collection about her as a racehorse and then later, with some of her babies. I wonder: do you know what happened to her at the end? I mean, I know she was old, very old, but this video was made about 10 months before she was euthanized and she was just fine at that time. Thank you. Abigail
She had an infection that was getting worse and because of her condition they couldn't treat her. I was there that morning. I was the one who called my supervisor to let the broodmare manager know that she has gotten worse.
@medic50646 I just wanted to ask, since you worked there: did anybody say anything about Secretariat's temperament? Was he the big jolly bombastic guy that he's been painted as or was it like trying to deal with Donkey Kong?
It's so good to see Secretariat's girls! I wish there was more coverage of them, so many of them. Terlingua was so much like him. Thanks for all your great videos!
She is the spitting image of her daddy!!!! Ya' know, they gave Secretariat grief because he never REALLY duplicated himself, had they known back then he was a "dam sire", I shudder to think about the breedings that COULD HAVE been done!!! I think we have yet to see the impact Secretariat will make, now that they KNOW what a great "dam-sire" he is, and with all his offspring still around... I can't WAIT to see! Awesome video, and what a grand old lady! I'm WAY partial to mares anyway!
She sure looked like poppa, and her raw speed as evidenced by her maiden time of 1:03 3/5 rivalled the great Ruffian. Her 7 furlong time of 1:20 4/5 as a 4YO is terrific, too. A superb filly/mare!

From 4:40 onward she has what appears to be a surgical scar on her left cheek - as did Secretariat in his later years. Why was that?

at 1:13 she's breathtaking... short coupled back just like Daddy.

Terlingua was euthanized due to the infirmities of old age.
You're welcome.

@Terlingua1849 I love Terlinqua also. I was fortunate enough to get some of Terlinqua's mane before she passed and I truly treasure it.

This passage of great lineage,is what makes thoroughbred racing the greatest sport anytime, anyplace.

She died? Well I guess this must be an old
video. But it was so nice to see her. I think
Secretariat who I met many times is most often
found in pedigrees on the dams side. I think that's the way Nashua stays in pedigrees too.
Thanks
