Yes you are probably right. falcon and Wizzos were fitted with the same engines. It's one of the reasons why she ended her days on the Western region because the fitters were familiar with a Maybach engine.
They are wonderful trains. Your videos, along with James May's program on toys & especially the trains have inspired me to start again. I've just purchased the Hornby Blue Streak set from Argos. That along with my HST set from 30 years ago (it still works!) are the first but not the last.
ehattons has some of the BR Blue limited edition of the Falcon still in & will be getting some of the other colour schemes as exclusive editions in later on.
Great stuff jules. Kestrel is a lovely looking loco aint it. I have it running on my garden railway. My mate worked on Kestrel when it was at the brush and he seen it come out the brush for the first time. I also know a man that has the original drawings for it.
It's a real shame that Kestrel was not taken on by BR. It was a private venture and by the time it had been put through it's paces BR were looking at the HST concept of two power cars sandwiching a rake of coaches which sounded the death knell for new passenger locos.
hey what,s ur plan for vids of 2011

im sure a class 52 sound would suit falcon .i can remember her in the 70s exactly the same as a 1000 but without the transmission whine

Great to see some new videos from you. Are the Kestrel & Falcon already DCC fitted?
DocSponk 2 years ago
No, they are DCC ready but not DCC fitted. Both mine have been fitted with Bachmann 3 function decoders with Back EMF
