  • Wow, this video is available in 480p, :P, not that it makes it better! :)

  • Most people were abed at sign-off time, so promo slides and/or music tended to keep for more than one season.

  • Sign off from between 1983 and 1984 or is it 1987 according to MattArchives channel?

  • I've had my YouTube channel for two years now and this is the first time I've run across this. User "KosanChim1982" has taken my "WTHR Sign Off" video and has reposted it as his/her own:

It's not cool to steal other folks videos and use them as your own. If you agree, please drop by and let "KosanChim1982" know.

  • 1987 NBC is NOT USING the 1975 N with the Peacock on it its now using the nice peacock what year is from before you rename it

  • @television472tv My video came from a tape I recorded in 1987. This is the sign off WTHR was using in 1987.

  • WDIV in Detroit used this version of the SSB in 1981.

  • a synth version of The Star Spangled Banner.

  • aonde arrumo essa musica instrumental de fundo da vinheta "Be there" de 83-84 ?

where I fix this instrumental music background of the sticker "Be There" from 83-84?

  • The SIgn off Of WTHR Is Awesome! Including A Piano Reditition To The Star Spangled Banner

  • Based on the music used in the Station ID, I would say WTHR is using the same music package for their news that WBNS was using at the time.

  • Two things. First, it uses the Helvetica-type WTHR logo, used from about 1974 through 1985-ish. From the station ID, you can see that this logo had been retired by then. (WBNS-TV used to own a old remote truck in the 1970's that displayed both the WBNS and WTHR station logos.) Second, it uses the NBC Promo Theme "Be There" which was used only for the 1983 season in 1987. WTVN/WSYX in Columbus was using the 1987 ABC "Something's Happening" promotional music bed well into the 1990's.

  • I remember seeing this on WVUE Fox 8 New Orleans when it was an ABC affiliate in the 80s

  • You're talking about Our National Anthem, "The Star Spangled Banner"?

  • At 1:27, the sign-off announcement still used the NBC "Be There!" backdrop from the 82-83 season.

  • Actually, the "Be There!" backdrop from NBC was in the 83-84 season.

  • Duly noted. Thanks. ;)

Plus, "Video Indiana" is in turn owned by Dispatch Publishing Company... owners of the Columbus Dispatch and WBNS AM/FM/TV.

  • Wonder how they got the name "VideoIndiana"?

WBNS-AM/FM has long been owned by "RadiOhio, Inc.", a Dispatch affiliate. When WLWI was purchased from Avco, they used "VideoIndiana, Inc." for the subsidiary owning WTHR.

WALV-LP is owned by "VideOhio", but WBNS-TV is owned by WBNS-TV, Inc.

  • wats a sign off??????

  • Unlike today, most TV stations used to leave the air during the overnight hours, when they figured that their potential viewing audience would be too small. By FCC mandate, any station intentionally leaving the air is required to announce this ahead of time, along with information about station ownership, city of license, etc. Such an announcement in the U.S. and Canada is called a "sign-off," or in the UK a "closedown."

  • As a pianist, I have always enjoyed this rendition of the SSB from the Army National Guard; but there were very few TV stations that played it back in the day. Thank you for posting.
