When I first completely beat Sonic 1 with all six chaos emeralds and later learn (around this time because I was only a kid then) that Sonic let them vanish into nothing...all that dizziness and vertigo all for nothing...thanks alot Sonic...you ass....but still I love this game with passion and I continue to play it even if I beat it millions of times. You cannot replace these kind of memories.

Not much of a different ending for all that extra work. When I first beat the game like this, the ending had a glitch where the CPU player in the endig hit the hidden invincable block in Green Hill and that song played all through the credits. I thought that's how this new ending would always end it.

and for some reason, sonic 1 for the genesis and master system, as well as sonic 2 for the master system, only had 6 emeralds. so you cannot be super sonic.

@urbynwyldcat Actually, in Japan he was named Eggman all along, it seems that with the introduction of the internet, there would be confusion with the names in America and Japan, so I assume SEGA just changed his name to Eggman in both all of a sudden to avoid confusion, even though there is enough confusion going on already about it.

I'm assuming story wise, he got used to the other characters calling him that and eventually started referred to himself as such too.

Robotnik's final battle with Sonic was issue 50 of the Endgame saga (issues 47-50) where Sonic and him got into a fist fight, fell into this weird liquidy stuff and Robotnik didn't make it, while Sonic fell into a coma-like state. Later, who is considered "Eggman" here in America, one of Dr. Robotnik's clones, awoke.

The first time I ever completed the game with all of the emeralds, I loved seeing Sonic's face whenever they all lit up and then the plants grew =D Then Sonic jumping out at you was the icing on the cake. It's like he's saying "Yeah! Great job!"

That's why he jumps like that and looks angrier (in Sonic 2 specifically his first appearance designed him like a psycho and in Sonic Adventure is when Tails FIRST revealed Sonic could use the POSITIVE energy. Sonic X took the exact same plot in Sonic feeling weird around the fake emeralds before going dark, resembling Super Sonic without USING the emeralds, and changing through anger.)
