Your asking the wrong person, I don't use DCC on my layout. All connections are soldered. All mainline trackage is soldered at the three foot length. I've recently replaced all the trackage in redford engine yard, redford yard, redford industrial area, whitney industrial area, and bluington engine yard. Replacing fifty year old brass track. I can recommend PECO turnouts.
Thre won't be any future layouts as I'm falling down the other side of the hill. I put up that mural when I was 65, it was quite ammusing. I used old boat cushions to disapate my weight and stripped to prevent my clothes from catching on the scenery. dispite all my planning I ended up getting stuck. I put my knee on the sock I had on my other foot and couldn't move. I had a good laugh over that one. The mural came out near perfect as you can see--Walthers carries this type.
nice layout - i like the way it's set in the desert> not perticually many desert-based layouts - i like the way your trains are equiped with sound speakers - they really bring it to life. I am currently trying to put up a film of my layout - not currently as up to scratch as yours! Good luck for any of your future layouts!
I take out the electronics and install two caps. and a speaker. I operate two different sound throttles for the sound. twelve speakers are around the layout to suppliment the on board speakers. two amplifers connect to the twelve speakers.
Thank you---I've been grouping the locomotives in sets of six units as I have so many on the roster. Seven units pull four track cleaning cars around the layout every day!
I haven't purchased any trains lately. Costs of model railroading have soared and left me bitter. I purchased on the net. When I started in 54 the hobby shop owner or his wife would watch me as I roamed the store so I purchased from dealers in the magazines.
I built every thing from kits even the mainline is wood with ns laid on it. All engines were Hobbytown of Boston kits. Every building, cars, people, electrical, I still use throttles I built back in the fifties. Some Woodland scenic people.
actually the dog is glued down--opps! now you know. there's quite a few people to put on the layout as soon as I find time to paint them. I'm tearing out some of the wiring and cabs so that when I become feeble I'll still be able to operate the layout. Only five cabs now.
Well, I'd say go slow--1.how many cars am I going to use, locomotives, type, radio control. I've built more than fourteen layouts over the years so I've made all the mistakes. diesels are more forgiving of poor track work! clean track is a must. I clean every time I use the layout. long trains, short trains, passenger trains. take your time. are you going to take the layout with you? my folks gave my layout to the neighbor when i was in the service.
On and off. The original layout didn't extend into the shop area until after my kids left the nest. Orangeburg is in my shop area and Blackstone is in the former closet. Ten people can operate the layout. All my locomotives were Hobbytown of Boston that I enjoyed building over the years. Most of the 88 loco's today are the China wonders. I've installed sound in most of them. It takes an evening to change out all the tacks. I have yet to be bored with this layout as there are eight branch line
Good video, but do you have better quality video? 240p is a bit

Great video. I'm a bit bold ( also hairless), you have to get a better camera.

What a layout, it's massive! Was this on & off work building the layout since 1972, or has it been pretty much steady? Great job!
