Never admit that you have a title, ie: Mr, Mrs, etc because its their crafty legal way of getting you to admit that you owe them money and you will be entering into a contract with them by admitting you have a title. Look into common law. There is a difference between legal and lawful. What they are doing is not lawful.
I owe money to Npower and I am paying it back slowly. However, they passed the debt onto rossendales and its killing them that I won't pay them! LOL - they keep threatening me with court and in reality there's nothing they can do because I'm actually paying Npower so it wouldn't stand up in court. More fool them for buying the debt! As soon as you can't pay your bills get help / advice from someone like the Citizens Advice Bureau, pays bills in this order 1. Food 2. Rent / Mortgage 3. Council Tax 4. Utilities, too many people pay their bloody "catalogue" before all of the above.

@parautd4eva fraud by false representation. My old dear paid over £1500 and yet only £200 came off of her council tax bill.... the rest in fees that the LAW does not provide for them to take. The bailiff in question has since been barred from being a bailiff and lost her licence and the firm in question is under subject of a CCJ meaning they cannot renew their licence at the end of the year and therefore cannot legally operate under ANY other name including their current one. Success i'd say.
im having problems with them now. i managed to get the payment for council tax down to £200 but as the job i was working at shut down so i was unable to pay, they put it back up to over £500 any advice people can give me. im trying to also join the marines and hope this wont affect me getting in??
If they come knocking and it is for Council tax payment borrow the money and go down and pay off your council tax for that year. There is then nothing a Bailiff can do to you as this means there is No dept and also the Council is by law not now allow to refuse a payment even if it has been to Court over your non payment.
@chipandfish Do you have to notify them that your using a phone to record what they are upto? Also...if they have a walking possession can they use a locksmith to gain access? Im interested as they tried this on my wife.

Ive just had a visit from one of these Rossendale bailiffs to remove my goods over an old tax bill, and to be honest he was quite helpfull and even let me have an extra two weeks to come up with the money, he could have gained entry because the door was unlocked but he didnt because my granmother is staying with us and he didnt want to worry her. I guess im just lucky that i had an understanding bailiff but before he came i was sick with worry.

Before i knew what i know now, i agreed to pay Rossendales 'X' amount each week. When i learned a bit more, i stopped paying them. A BullyboyBailiff knocked on my door trying to worm his way in, very aggressive in his manner. I stood my ground and told him he would not be coming in and he had no right to come in. He jabbered for a bit on before turning round with his tail between his legs knowing he had no rights. The bill got passed back to the Council who i paid directly. Scum. Subhuman scum.
Bailiffs are scum and will use any tactic to get into your house. 1. Do not let them into you house UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES! They DO NOT have the right to enter your house. If you let them in, they have the power to sieze your goods and to force entry if they return. 2. If they are trying to make you pay old Council Tax bills, just refuse to pay it. They will just send it back to the Council. The money will come out of you wages or benefits and you wont have to pay the Bailiffs charges.

Seems Curnow's still causing trouble - I hope if the person in the thread goes to court over the disgusting behaviour from Mr C, it gets highlighted that he's already been in trouble once before for his arrant behaviour.
We may then see his licence being revoked if he has to account for his behaviour a second time - courts aren't pleased to see the same guy there more than once.
Rossendales are wankers they attended my property without informing me then demanded money witrh menaces by stating we pay 100 pounds or they are taking the car not the fact i was not in arrears cos the payment for my community charge had been paid but because i was over 28 days it had already been sent. ssome people jump in 2 feet first don't ask questions and if they did ask i could have told them i was on holiday for 8 weeks visiting relatives who live in Australia... Why do you think peoples debts get to the bailiff in the first place? People havnt paid the council, they have ignored the 2 reminder letters, ignored the court summons, havnt gone to court and then have ignored the final letter that tells them their debt has been to court and they need to call the council before it goes to the bailiffs. Really people have no one to blame but themselves. Like lillmisspink said mistakes happen but the most part it is the person owing the councils taxes fault!

i work for a bailiff company also in a call centre, and do you know how hard it is to be constantly verbally abused, swore at, threatened and have to put up with people taking their frustations out on us~???? i think not, its simple, pay your council tax, if your skint, apply for council tax benefit, if you dont ask you dont get, but be truthfull, sky tv, mobile, internet and catalogues are NOT a priority!

oh my god, wake up and smell the coffee, at the end of the day the bailiffs are their to collect unpaid council tax - debts that have been given to them to collect on behalf of the local council and liability orders that have been issued in a magistrates court. If you paid your council tax in the first place there would be no need for the council to issue it to bailiffs. i understand that SOMETIMES genuine mistakes are made, but the majority of the time it IS a result of your own negligence.
Also it has to be understood that the council are partly responsible, most of the time, for debt going to bailiffs. They know what the bailiff can and cant do and they agree all the letters that are sent and the fees that can be added before the bailiff attends. The councils sometimes tell people that we shouldnt be charging certain fees but they agree to them in the first place.... Again this makes the bailiffs out to be bad guys.
In a court of LAW Mr STEVEN CURNOW could not stop saying how sorry he was for what he had done, ILLEGALLY THREATENED some one with a locksmith. He was found GUILT of MISREPRESENTING HIS POWERS by a judge.

Ok maybe my comment wasnt worded correctly. I understand the situation you where in and what happened. Everyone has to understand no matter what job someone is in there will always be people that work the system, dont do things correctly and genrally given their employer a bad name. I am not one of those people and I know lots of bailiffs that work for Rossendales who arnt like that either.
When my business went bust last year, council tax bailiffs came to my house. I tried to reverse my car off the drive and they smashed into me saying I reversed into them. They called the police and when the police knocked on my door, the bailiffs pushed past the police and forced their way in shoving me out of the way. When I complained to the officer he said "they just stepped in" with a smirk on his face. They then threatened to take away my kids toys. I am very very sore about this.
Write to the judge who certificated them. Go down and see your MP. I know it is of little point but we have the power with the video. If you say come on please be nice they will not listen you got to go to them with law and law alone it is as we found out they have a very corrupt way of working and with a little work you start seeing a lot, sums that don't add up, trespassing, a levy on a locked shed and it's contents, that's an invalid levy they dropped that one and got mad, ha ha.
If you believe the police may attend you should exit the property and lock it. You do not have to entertain the police inside your home. I understand that in VideoViewings case everything must have happened fairly quickly and in some confusion. For the rest of you be prepared and stay in the property with doors and windows locked or leave the property locked and walk away. If your car is on a driveway or kerb there is little you can do short of paying some lads to sit on the bonnet.
Have you been on Consumer Action Group about this? What you've said there is grounds for instigating an IPCC complaint, and possible arrest for the officer who said that to you. No peaceful entry was gained, and therefore the bailiff has entered illegally. The police have enabled this to happen, and therefore, have assisted in a crime.

A lot of the comments below are inaccurate. A bailiff CAN take goods worth more than the debt; after removal fees and auctioneers costs the amount will be much higher anyway. Plus bailiffs have longer than 2 years to collect on council tax.

they can enter thru an open window if unchallenged ..but yea it has to be peaceful entry..even after they have ear marked your things u still have the right to hide them..they do not bring police because police wont come unless u have been threatening..i got a bailiff after my car at the moment for a parking ticket that i didnt get "ill be back in four days and you better pay me some f**king money" is what he shouted down the phone at me...

they are only licienced to carry out the collection for 2yrs...if u ignore them,after a while they will sell the debt back to the people thay bought it off and the fine will return to what it once was,if i was u i would pay it then..
they will clamp your car but your car has to be within a certain distance of your house,they can only take good up to the value..my car is worth more than the fine, so the trick is to clamp my car,charge £100 a day for the clamp untill the money owed is equal to the value of my car, then he can legally take the car..
no probs...Equita have stopped sending me letters now, since then i have had 4 other collection agencies sending me letters, none have come round...now does that sound like they have any law behind them...
ive had a solicitors letter about it,yet the phone number and address are the same as the collection agency..(they have a deal with certain solicitors that they can use their name) ..the letter is full of phrases like "you should"..and "may" take court action and "could" damage your credit...that aint law speak, law gives u two options, pay the fine or pay the price...untill then, its all just paper and ink and it dont mean shit to anyone..
Bailiff can only gain peaceful entry if you have signed a walking possesion order, if it's their first visit and you haven't previously let them in or signed a levy then you don't have to let them in and they have NO RIGHT WHAT SO EVER to gain entry at all.
I wish i had had a camera to record the lies and mistruths used to try and gain entry by Rossendale CB thugs. You absolute darling! I entertained these lieing fucks some years ago due to my retention of monies oweing to my council (dispute over banding now resolved in my favour). Curnow and friend would turn up regularly and hammer on the windows while i stood with my face 3 inches behind the glass. One afternoon the police turned up and a thicko police woman threatened to help them break in. I went straight to Y division with that one and she probably got her record marked no more than that.
his company will put the debtor on an arrangement if she can't pay it all at once he is a useless bailiff he has no people skills he cant convince her to open the door he has not offered any arrangement and gone straight in with the locksmith threat which gets peoples backs up he is not allowed to enter unless she walks away and leaves the door open as he would lose his job.

In my case I settled direct with the council after they promised to review my tax banding. When Knobnow and his chums turned up for their cut even after the council had called them off a mystery man on a mountain bike doused their van with nitromors gel. They did not like my German shepherd dogs

I would just like to say i work in the call centre of Rossendales and I am not a crook. I try my hardest to help people out. Setting installments, telling people what to send in if they cant pay installments and contacting the council to try and get quiries sorted. All bailiffs and people who work for bailiff companies arnt crooks. I do understand your frustration though!!

Simple pay your council tax everyone has every chance to pay before a bailiff calls and bailiffs do have a warrant it is called a Distress Warrant and legislation is changeing shortly giving bailiffs the right to force entry and everyone who thinks its ok not to pay etc well its a good job we all dont think like that as the country would be even in a worse state than it is now sorry for my opinions

I got in to debt with council tax because my council tax office fucked up and then sent me a request for £150 when it should have been £96 per month i refused to pay it untill they corrected it and now i have rossendales to deal with.

Never admit that you have a title, ie: Mr, Mrs, etc because its their crafty legal way of getting you to admit that you owe them money and you will be entering into a contract with them by admitting you have a title. Look into common law. There is a difference between legal and lawful. What they are doing is not lawful.

I owe money to Npower and I am paying it back slowly. However, they passed the debt onto rossendales and its killing them that I won't pay them! LOL - they keep threatening me with court and in reality there's nothing they can do because I'm actually paying Npower so it wouldn't stand up in court. More fool them for buying the debt! I made no contract with Rossendales so I refuse to do business with them. I dont think they come across people like me often.

As soon as you can't pay your bills get help / advice from someone like the Citizens Advice Bureau, pays bills in this order 1. Food 2. Rent / Mortgage 3. Council Tax 4. Utilities, too many people pay their bloody "catalogue" before all of the above.

@parautd4eva fraud by false representation. My old dear paid over £1500 and yet only £200 came off of her council tax bill.... the rest in fees that the LAW does not provide for them to take. The bailiff in question has since been barred from being a bailiff and lost her licence and the firm in question is under subject of a CCJ meaning they cannot renew their licence at the end of the year and therefore cannot legally operate under ANY other name including their current one. Success i'd say.

If they come knocking and it is for Council tax payment borrow the money and go down and pay off your council tax for that year. There is then nothing a Bailiff can do to you as this means there is No dept and also the Council is by law not now allow to refuse a payment even if it has been to Court over your non payment.

Ive just had a visit from one of these Rossendale bailiffs to remove my goods over an old tax bill, and to be honest he was quite helpfull and even let me have an extra two weeks to come up with the money, he could have gained entry because the door was unlocked but he didnt because my granmother is staying with us and he didnt want to worry her. I guess im just lucky that i had an understanding bailiff but before he came i was sick with worry.

Before i knew what i know now, i agreed to pay Rossendales 'X' amount each week. When i learned a bit more, i stopped paying them. A BullyboyBailiff knocked on my door trying to worm his way in, very aggressive in his manner. I stood my ground and told him he would not be coming in and he had no right to come in. He jabbered for a bit on before turning round with his tail between his legs knowing he had no rights. The bill got passed back to the Council who i paid directly. Scum. Subhuman scum.

Bailiffs are scum and will use any tactic to get into your house. 1. Do not let them into you house UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES! They DO NOT have the right to enter your house. If you let them in, they have the power to sieze your goods and to force entry if they return. 2. If they are trying to make you pay old Council Tax bills, just refuse to pay it. They will just send it back to the Council. The money will come out of you wages or benefits and you wont have to pay the Bailiffs charges.

Read through a thread on Consumer Action Group called 'Rossendales Bailiff Called This Morning' created today.
Seems Curnow's still causing trouble - I hope if the person in the thread goes to court over the disgusting behaviour from Mr C, it gets highlighted that he's already been in trouble once before for his arrant behaviour.
We may then see his licence being revoked if he has to account for his behaviour a second time - courts aren't pleased to see the same guy there more than once.

Why do you think peoples debts get to the bailiff in the first place? People havnt paid the council, they have ignored the 2 reminder letters, ignored the court summons, havnt gone to court and then have ignored the final letter that tells them their debt has been to court and they need to call the council before it goes to the bailiffs. Really people have no one to blame but themselves. Like lillmisspink said mistakes happen but the most part it is the person owing the councils taxes fault!

oh my god, wake up and smell the coffee, at the end of the day the bailiffs are their to collect unpaid council tax - debts that have been given to them to collect on behalf of the local council and liability orders that have been issued in a magistrates court. If you paid your council tax in the first place there would be no need for the council to issue it to bailiffs. i understand that SOMETIMES genuine mistakes are made, but the majority of the time it IS a result of your own negligence.

Also it has to be understood that the council are partly responsible, most of the time, for debt going to bailiffs. They know what the bailiff can and cant do and they agree all the letters that are sent and the fees that can be added before the bailiff attends. The councils sometimes tell people that we shouldnt be charging certain fees but they agree to them in the first place.... Again this makes the bailiffs out to be bad guys.

I am not one of those people and I know lots of bailiffs that work for Rossendales who arnt like that either.

When my business went bust last year, council tax bailiffs came to my house. I tried to reverse my car off the drive and they smashed into me saying I reversed into them. They called the police and when the police knocked on my door, the bailiffs pushed past the police and forced their way in shoving me out of the way. When I complained to the officer he said "they just stepped in" with a smirk on his face. They then threatened to take away my kids toys. I am very very sore about this.

Write to the judge who certificated them. Go down and see your MP. I know it is of little point but we have the power with the video. If you say come on please be nice they will not listen you got to go to them with law and law alone it is as we found out they have a very corrupt way of working and with a little work you start seeing a lot, sums that don't add up, trespassing, a levy on a locked shed and it's contents, that's an invalid levy they dropped that one and got mad, ha ha.

If you believe the police may attend you should exit the property and lock it. You do not have to entertain the police inside your home. I understand that in VideoViewings case everything must have happened fairly quickly and in some confusion. For the rest of you be prepared and stay in the property with doors and windows locked or leave the property locked and walk away. If your car is on a driveway or kerb there is little you can do short of paying some lads to sit on the bonnet.

Have you been on Consumer Action Group about this? What you've said there is grounds for instigating an IPCC complaint, and possible arrest for the officer who said that to you. No peaceful entry was gained, and therefore the bailiff has entered illegally. The police have enabled this to happen, and therefore, have assisted in a crime.

Bailiffs and laws are something the public know little about, however you can take any problem you have with a bailiff back to the judge who certificated them. Another point is to film/record everything and call the police if you feel they could be wrong the police will not get involved but it will prevent the bailiff acting unlawfully. Some say pay your bills the incident you see comes from one missed payment of 23 pounds and a letter that was never received requesting the amount.

A lot of the comments below are inaccurate. A bailiff CAN take goods worth more than the debt; after removal fees and auctioneers costs the amount will be much higher anyway. Plus bailiffs have longer than 2 years to collect on council tax.
If you're looking for advice on how to deal with bailiffs, youtube is probably not the best source

they can enter thru an open window if unchallenged ..but yea it has to be peaceful entry..even after they have ear marked your things u still have the right to hide them..they do not bring police because police wont come unless u have been threatening..i got a bailiff after my car at the moment for a parking ticket that i didnt get "ill be back in four days and you better pay me some f**king money" is what he shouted down the phone at me...

i told him that if he can clamp my car in my locked garage legally then i would pay him double..DONT LET THEM IN.. DONT ACKNOWLEDGE THEM..AS LONG AS THEY DONT GET IN THE LAW IS ON YOUR SIDE..ignore the letters they send about a van being in your area because they have to go thru 3 process b4 they can remove anything and number 1 process is gaining entry

number 2 process is making an itinerary of your items, then u have to sign something on an agreed payment..then u have to fail to pay before they remove goods..THEY ALWAYS PLAY THE LOCKSMITH CARD....DOES GETTING A LOCKSMITH TO TAKE OUT YOUR LOCKS SOUND LIKE PEACEFUL ENTRY...NO...SO DONT LET THEM IN..

they are only licienced to carry out the collection for 2yrs...if u ignore them,after a while they will sell the debt back to the people thay bought it off and the fine will return to what it once was,if i was u i would pay it then..

they will clamp your car but your car has to be within a certain distance of your house,they can only take good up to the value..my car is worth more than the fine, so the trick is to clamp my car,charge £100 a day for the clamp untill the money owed is equal to the value of my car, then he can legally take the car..

no probs...Equita have stopped sending me letters now, since then i have had 4 other collection agencies sending me letters, none have come round...now does that sound like they have any law behind them...

ive had a solicitors letter about it,yet the phone number and address are the same as the collection agency..(they have a deal with certain solicitors that they can use their name) ..the letter is full of phrases like "you should"..and "may" take court action and "could" damage your credit...that aint law speak, law gives u two options, pay the fine or pay the price...untill then, its all just paper and ink and it dont mean shit to anyone..

Bailiff can only gain peaceful entry if you have signed a walking possesion order, if it's their first visit and you haven't previously let them in or signed a levy then you don't have to let them in and they have NO RIGHT WHAT SO EVER to gain entry at all.

I wish i had had a camera to record the lies and mistruths used to try and gain entry by Rossendale CB thugs. I did enlist their address via fax and post to every single book club, catalogues, you name it. If anyone has Curnows private address feel free to post it. Priceless video anyway and well done on getting him spotlighted.

You absolute darling! I entertained these lieing fucks some years ago due to my retention of monies oweing to my council (dispute over banding now resolved in my favour). Curnow and friend would turn up regularly and hammer on the windows while i stood with my face 3 inches behind the glass. One afternoon the police turned up and a thicko police woman threatened to help them break in. I went straight to Y division with that one and she probably got her record marked no more than that.

his company will put the debtor on an arrangement if she can't pay it all at once he is a useless bailiff he has no people skills he cant convince her to open the door he has not offered any arrangement and gone straight in with the locksmith threat which gets peoples backs up he is not allowed to enter unless she walks away and leaves the door open as he would lose his job.

He wouldnt lose his job, he is one of three partners running that firm from Hardman mill in Rossendale. My council sacked them a couple of years ago, they are wankers. In my case I settled direct with the council after they promised to review my tax banding. When Knobnow and his chums turned up for their cut even after the council had called them off a mystery man on a mountain bike doused their van with nitromors gel. They did not like my German shepherd dogs

I would just like to say i work in the call centre of Rossendales and I am not a crook. I try my hardest to help people out. Setting installments, telling people what to send in if they cant pay installments and contacting the council to try and get quiries sorted. All bailiffs and people who work for bailiff companies arnt crooks. I do understand your frustration though!!

Working for a scum outfit like Rossendales, I can see you've got a very purposeful existence. You could try prostitution - it's a more honest profession to work in.
And yes, spelling is an issue. If you maintain that you're working for a company and want to put some kind of positive or professional spin on it, then it's not really asking too much to articulate yourself properly.

Rossendales and Phillips are two of the worst bailiffs in this country and i think that if you cant pay like me then they should sort something out with you and not send the above round.. the county councils are too quick to jump on the "bully boy" tatics to get their money back.

Another crooked bailiff, see my cctv of what happened in my pub when i refused to pay the previous tennants business rates, the police were called and I was charged with assault. the police should not ever be used to back-up these crooked little scummy freeloaders, that is not what i pay my tax for. over 20 officers smashed me and my pub up for alleged assault, i had already taken 4 counts of court action stopping the bailiff company; "RUNDLES" from entering the premises,

Simple pay your council tax everyone has every chance to pay before a bailiff calls and bailiffs do have a warrant it is called a Distress Warrant and legislation is changeing shortly giving bailiffs the right to force entry and everyone who thinks its ok not to pay etc well its a good job we all dont think like that as the country would be even in a worse state than it is now sorry for my opinions

bailiffs can not break inot your property unless you let them in. I went to citizens advice about it and that is what they told me.
I got in to debt with council tax because my council tax office fucked up and then sent me a request for £150 when it should have been £96 per month i refused to pay it untill they corrected it and now i have rossendales to deal with.
