  • The line up in this video, filmed late 66 onward is Mike Pender and John Mc Nally on guitars; Frank Allen on Bass and (I think) John Blunt on drums. McNally replaced Tony Jackson on bass in 1964 and Blunt replaced Chris Curtis on drums in 1966 - it was Pender; McNally; Jackson and Curtis in 1963 when they had their first number1. The Searchers still tour today with McNally and Allen prominent in the line up along with Spencer James on guitar and Scott Otway on drums. Still a great live act

  • Beautiful that makes the heart and mind soar to new heights.

  • Can someone give me all of their names?

  • Biche oh ma biche !

  • YEEAHHH I see it today in Offenbach :D on "beat beat beat "

  • Nice, thanks for posting

  • The searchers were a great group with a very distintive sound. What a shame Tony Jackson had to leave the group , especially because he had such a hard life, away from the group.

  • this song stucks in my head all the time hehe.

  • this music is timeless i saw the searchers about 15yrs ago in bolton lancs they were great the 60s music is the best takes me back, so much good songs

  • great video.5*****.CARL

  • There will NEVER be, such FABULOUS Groups, or music like this EVER again. Thank Heaven, there's such a thing called Archives, for Memorable moments like these....

  • The British talent never ceases to amaze me.

I'm blown away. I never saw film footage of these guys, until now.

    Sooooo cool.

  • they played a party i went to the other day...amazing

  • John Lennon once expressed his opinion that "Sweets For My Sweet" was the finest song to come out of Liverpool in the 60's, high praise from an even higher source! RIP John, long live The Searchers and The Mersey Beat! Rock On Shindiggers! P.S. The B side of this: "It's All Been A Dream" is also very good!

  • great to see this

    thanks for posting this !!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Anyone know how come Kieth Moon's on the drums with the Searchers, what's the story?

  • Love this one! It makes me happy!

  • Yeah the great Mike Pender, the sound of the Searchers.

  • "BRILLIANT " Gr8 Post + share slumbers2

  • Another good old british classic

  • The drummer plays a little like Kevin Moon of the Who fame! The Searchers , like Amen Corner were one of the few decent Welsh bands around at the time!

  • That's KEITH Moon!

PS I'm Welsh and the Searchers sure as hell ain't, unless Liverpool has suddenly moved South.

  • Are you sure about that Mr Gibb? And when are you thinking of that new Bee Gees tour again?

  • Pretty sure - I quote "The Searchers are a British rock band who emerged as part of the 1960s merseybeat scene along with The Beatles, The Swinging Blue Jeans, and Gerry and the Pacemakers." Now the last time I looked the Mersey was in Liverpool. Nice one about the bee gees, though!

  • yes my dear sir, youa re quite correct in what you say, I was indeed wrong!

  • That's the advantage of my being the same age as the Searchers! Anyway it's a great clip.

  • Why's Keith playing drums with the Searchers?

  • It looks like him but it's John Blunt - by this time both Tony Jackson and Chris Curtis had left, so this is 50% of the original band

  • John Blunt eh? What ever happened to him? That's the best Keith Moon impersonation I've ever seen!!!! It's not just the look, the playing style and mannerisms are pure Moonie.

  • @TheBlokeNextDoor Excuse me if I am misinformed, but I believe John Blunt was involved in a career shortening auto accident. Too bad I kind of liked his style, plus i was an extra large fan of the late KEITH MOON!

  • its not keith moon

  • The original song was written and recorded by Buddy Holly and the crickets.

  • No it was written by Doc Pomus and Mort Shuman and I don't believe Buddy Holly and the Crickets wrote or even recorded it.Buddy died in 1959 and this wasn't released until 1961 firstly by The Drifters.

  • Great song! The Searchers are awesome!

  • who sang the original hit? thanx for uploading!

  • The Drifters had the original I believe

  • Yes you are correct. The Drifters did sing it first.

  • I always loved this song. Never heard it by the Searchers before. Who did the original; can't recall his name. He had a few hits!

Thanks, Tricia, for sharing this video! Great job!

    Kathy

  • TRICIA GREAT SHARE ty also great post

  • Love this song! It's in my Favorites.

  • Who is singing lead?

  • It is Mike, though on the hit single. it was Tony Jackson.

  • ohhh ooohhh oohhhh ooohhhh :)

  • cool song very cool

  • Nice, 5* -

    Carlinhos

  • It's a good thing a "live" show like "Beat Beat Beat" was around and even more so, that we can see clips like this decades later. I've seen clips form Hallabaloo, Shindig and Ready Steady Go. Most of it was this embarrassing lipsyncing/ miming of the performers' tunes. It's so much better doing your songs "live. Faking sucks, always will.

  • You'll probably dig the beach boys live on ready steady go then - it's put up by humanoidboogie

  • simply precious....

  • thi song is awesome!

  • lov 2 listen this song , gr8 composition

  • They and Hollies where my favorites round -the sixties and the beginning of the 70-s!

  • Does anyone have the version they did of "Love Potion Number Nine" on this show? I believe that version and this footage are from the German TV show "Beat Beat Beat". I love the style of drumming on this and "Love Potion." The ( second? third? ) drummer gives their music an energetic punch.

  • Great video, but where is the DRIFTERS (Ben

    E. King) version on Atlantic Records...the

    most well-known one??

  • Yeah, I'm looking for that one, too. As well as the STUDIO version by the Searchers. The first version of this song I ever heard was by a group called Central Park West in the late 1960s. I heard the Drifters' and Searchers' versions. later.

  • Found the DRIFTERS' version by Googling...

it provides an audio pod or whatever...

  • I actually have the Drifters' version on a CD in my collection (and have the Searchers' version as well), so if I ever get an iPod, I can add them from there. I am putting together a YouTube Playlist of songs that Neil Diamond covered on his 1993 album "Up on the Roof: Songs from the Brill Building", and I wanted to find studio versions of these songs from YouTube videos. Momentarily, I have this "live" Searchers' version (and none by the Drifters) in the playlist.

  • I found the Drifters one at a YouTube address that ends in WBwztdppQwQ - plug this after watch?v= - and a studio version of the Searchers doing this song at a YouTube address that ends in 1R0aqwkOuSM

  • awesomeeeeeeeeeee song love it :P

  • Glad to see and listen to the magic of the Searchers thanks.

  • Sorry I can't listen to one of my favourites now as says it's unavailable HOW SAD!

  • Great music always stands the test of time, this magnificent live performance by the Searchers is a great example of that.

  • there are modern bands with great harmonies, check out Mob Fandango

  • yes like the one george harrison had

  • this drummer sounds quiet "modern" for that time... nice!

  • RRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!!

  • Who's the Drummer on this clip?

  • I think it might be John Blunt. He replaced original drummer Chris Curtis in 1966.He was with the band till the 70's.

  • yeah it is John Blunt, he took over from the sadly deceased Chris Curtis

  • they called blunty ,curtis said his drumming on have you ever loved somebody sounded like a rat running across the drums.

  • what a great group from the fab 60's---always loved the Searchers because of their great harmonies. To bad you will never have bands like this group again.

  • I LOVE IT.

    Bring back memories.

What a wonderful band and fantastic sound!

  • My 4 year old son's fave song. Searchers, Baby !!!

  • nah the searchers much better

  • Brilliant stuff!!

  • ooooooohhh!!! absolute classic this!! cheers.

  • hello

  • This is a great live version of this superb song!

  • Grandioser Hit!

  • He couldnt take the touring he quit and tried to start another group that became Deep Purple.

  • Thank you........dream on.

  • When I was a kid growing up in Southern Minnesota, I could only listen to this song on the radio late at night out of the Chicago area. The song was great, uplifting my spirits, and most of all made me feel good.

The group is great, with a great sound.

Now that I'm older, I glad i rediscovered it..as it makes me feel as good now as I did when I was young kid.....( and most of all brings back some great memories.

  • RIP Tony Jackson

  • Thx for this posting. Notice the drummer is like Keith Moon of The Who ?

  • The drummer isn't Chris Curtis, who left in 1966. Judging from his mannerisms, it's probably John Blunt.

  • Its Blunty as Mike Pender calls him he played on the hit Have You Ever Loved Somebody.

  • This song just lifts your spirits.

  • By the way I'd give this vid. more than five stars if I could!

  • this group may be the must underrated music act ever, they dont have the catalog of the beatles but their vocals and musicianship is top.

  • Before my time , but still , an absolute classic ! =oD

  • Even though that is true for me, as well. (I wasn't born until November 1963, after this version was recorded and I was waaay too young to remember it being a hit). This has always stood out as my favorite remake of an American soul classic (originally from the Drifters). I think the best remake done by a British rock group! This is why I consider the Searchers the most underrated group of alltime.

  • Gr8 song I love it

    just sweet

    Greatzzz
