Huiuiuiuiui!
<3 it! Wenn Musiker einander aufmerksam zuhören während sie gemeinsam spielen :) DAS ist gute Musik! Egal, welches sogenannte "Genre". Wenn du ES auch nicht verstehst?! Das ist eine LIEBESERKLÄRUNG!! :))
you only have to see the faces of JM and kathy mattea at the end of this to know how fucking good it was.......that is the reaction we all want when collaborating with other musicians......we all know whn it "comes good" ...but to reach this level of near nirvana is a pipe dream t most of us I guess
couthyband ... yours is clearly a really heartfelt comment. John, like the rest of us, had his share of failings, but lack of courage wasn't one of them .....
john martyn regularly came to queens university belfast to do a concert all through the 70's and 80's while others rejected us as pariahs because of the terrible rash of terrorism that overtook us then and i will always remember the atmosphere of those gigs and he truly shone in the darkness RIP john may you lay your head down now with all those who will so willingly hold your hand
This is a cool song. I first heard it when I heard Kathy do it as a tribute to John after his passing. I love that version. This version is good , too. Thanks for posting it!
I knew Clapton's version... I didn't know it was a cover. Heard the original, then this one and I've listened to it 5 times in a row now... just breathtaking
This is one of the best performances of this song (in his latter years) very sadly, a few years later he sucumbed to the results of an addictive life style and we are all robbed by that sad event.
Just sitting in Kuwait and watching (mostly listening) to this , again,.. plugged into the telly with the speakers on,. It is, I think quite wonderful. MrThielBeats I am with you on that . Mashallah
This song never seems to lose its endearing charm, sensitive but not schmaltzy .The definitive version,a lovely weighting of voice and instruments.Kathy Mattea is just great providing a sweet balance to John Martyn's earthy voice
Great!!! They all looked so happy singing and playing too. And the country influences from the crystal clear voice of Kathy, the brilliant dobro of Jerry. Danny's bass & John's voice and rhythm..Perfection!!
love the man. Saw him in Sydney many years ago and he was seriously under the influence yet the show left a lasting legacy to this day. No other musician played with soul like John, he was one of a kind
I've been listening to John a hell of a lot over the past several years. I don't think anybody has more worn their heart on their sleeve. A somewhat broken psyhce, he painted his demons so well. I miss him so much.
Absolutely effing sodding bloody beautiful, brings tears of joy and sadness to my eye every time I watch, so bloody unfair hes gone,..... Im off to get pissed and get morose, anyone care to join me?
hey!! spot on.... i'm off to lie in my pile of moroseness and wonder why!!! i wish i'd seen a John Martyn and Leonard Cohen co=operation.....would have done me till the day I fly outa this world!!!
While looking at some of Kathy Matteo's compassionate work in WV (re: heart
breaking toxic mountain top removal mining...a piece I'll post later)...I found this Beautiful version. So, to my love, who is so far away...please know...my hand lays beside yours as you sleep & dream.........
and each breath becomes more Radiant than the one before...'Dancin'
The music is gorgeous and the group dynamics..! John is orbiting round some planet out there, Katty is hanging on in there wondering what John is going to throw in next. Then theres' something about Danny's presence.....if he was my Dad and told me to go to my room, I'd just...go to my room.
@iamthechosenscone The demon drink. But would John have been as good without it.? As for Danny - I hear he always liked a gargle. Theres no way they would have stayed together for so long else. That and they were two great musicians.
Went to see transatlantic sessions in Birmingham, sixteen players on stage, Danny was like a great general at the back - immense. Douglas, was, of course sublime....
John was one of those rare people that makes even skeptics like me want to think that maybe, just maybe, there is a God. His songs are life itself, and the OGWT '73 version of this song was a gem from the start, the jewel of Solid Air and the very best thing (which is saying something) that's ever been posted on YouTube. Rest in peace John and live forever.
