Nineteen Eighty-two was a testament to how good the Redskins really were. That fact is augmented by their historic performance in 1983. Yeah, they were upset in the Super Bowl by the Los Angeles Raiders, but everyone is still willing to consider the 2007 New England Patriots as one of the best teams in history, even though Washington's giveaway-takeaway ratio was +43 in 1983, a record which will probably never be broken.
BCKLW - First, only 7 Cowboy's crossed the strike line - so NO the entire team did not play the entire season. It was (2) strike years, but if the Cowboy's had won the superbowl during those years - I am sure you would not complain. The skins beat your ass, even with Dallas having (7) players cross the strike line....HAHA - How pathetic!..hahaha
The Redskins and Joe Gibbs are the most overrated team and coach in NFL history. Sure they won the Superbowl in 1982 but it was a strike shorten season. Dallas was the better team an had they played a full season they would have proved it. Sure they won in 1987 but again in a strike shorten season whith a whole bucnch of replacements. 2 out of the three superbowls Joe Gibbs won were during strike shorten seasons. Come on, how pathetic. GO COWBOYS
82 was a strike year your right...but the skins KICKED the boys ass in the NFC championship that year...and went 14-2 the next season...counting 82 up untill the 84 super bowl the skins including playoffs were 28-3 BITCH!!! were the F@#$ were the cowboys during that time??? And your BOYS with randy white too tall jones and dorsett couldnt even beat the 87 scab Skins in a game BITHCH!!! .....LMAO.....
Hey butt plug Washington was a year away in 1982 Dallas beat Washington 24-10 in RFK in 1982 had they played more then 9 games and had Dallas got their home game against Washington Dallas would of had a better record and home field, Get it butt plug.
Ayear away from what in 82??? more like 2 weeks away cuse thats how long it was that the skins held up the lombardi after they kicked the boys ass!!!!
the redskins would have destroyed the cowboys regardless of how many games were played. the cowboys suck ass and they will never be as great as the 82 redskins. so stop looking at redskins videos like a retard and trying to make yourself think that the cowboys are better when they arent. douche bag
Well say what you will about 1982, but... wait Washington BEAT Dallas in the NFC Championship what was the score like 38-17? Don't tell me Dallas was the better team.
And second, the 1987 season WAS a strike-shortened season, but it was only shortened by ONE Fing game. The teams played 15 regular season games, I don't think it made much difference.
Well, No surprise, just anothe ignorant Washington Redskin fan that knows nothing about the history of the NFL 1982 NFC Championship game the score was 31-17 man you think you would be smart enough to know that In 1987 sure they played 15 games but they used replacement players for some games I would not call that a full season . I am going to stop responding to ignorant Redskun fans contact me again when you know what you are talking about.
Don't call me ignorant, douchebag. I was close enough. I was born in '89 and you expect me to know the score of the '82 championship game off the top of my head?
I just don't see how you can call it pathetic that they won a couple of super bowls during strike-shortened seasons. Those 3 games in '87 were the result of a Redskins FO that recruited a really good team in a short period of time, and one of which was a victory over an absolutely pathetic Dallas team laden with Veterans.
Don't piss on our parade just because you haven't won a playoff game since... '96?
It's okay bro. Homeboy sounds like another bandwagon jumping, "I looked up the history of Dallas and/or bought a dvd and am now smarter than you" Cryboys fan! He's just pissed 'cuz they've got no offense for next season without their little golden boy T.O. Thank God we didn't pick up that assclown! Hail To The Redskins!
Not only do I know everything about the Dallas Cowboys. I probably know more about the stupid Redskins then any of you. I am no bandwagon jumper I have been a Dallas fan all my life. Eagle fand and Redskin fans seem to harp on the fact that Dallas has not won a playoff game since 1996. However, Dallas has won 3 superbowl since Washington has won a championship [1991 season] and the Eagles last championship was 1960 That is real sad.
dude, there is no name that's good for making fun of the redskins. you show me a dallas coach that took three different quarterbacks to three different superbowls and won. 1991 was the greatest superbowl performance in NFL history. the dallas cowshits arent naerly as good as the redskins.
there is none... Landry won it in the seventies with Staubach, and Johnson and Switzer won with Aikman, so three coaches won a Super Bowl with the Cowboys. That's nothing like winning it with three QB's (Gibbs).
yeah..the redskin's accomplishment was greater. dallas had three different coaches while joe gibbs took three different quarterbacks to win three superbowls. he turned doug williams and mark rypen into champions. he didn't have someone like staubach or aikman to work with.
One thing you can always count on is a Deadskin fan to be rude and use four letter words when talking football. Great argument. I can tell you know your football
Great memories..great team. Just for the record though, that very first photo showing Bostic, Grimm, and Lachey was not from the 82 team. Jim Lachey did not join the team until 1985.
The player I referred to is Jim Lachey,an offensive lineman who wore number 79. In the photo he is shown running alongside 2 other offensive linemen (Bostic and Grimm). Todd Liebenstein WAS on the Redskins in 1982, but he was a defensive end, not an offensive lineman. Libenstein wore number 79, but he only played 4 years for the Skins(from 82 to 85)and was long gone by the time Lachey joined the team. I was wrong about 1 thing though. Lachey joined the team in 1988, not 1985.
Shut up CMfisch978. I am a Raiders fan idiot. Not everyone in NY/NJ is a Giants fan.
If you were bright enough to read all of my statements i said the Redskins between the 1982-1991 seasons were a great team and was only disputing the entire league for the 1982 and 87 work stoppages.
I also made comments about how in other sports the 1981 Dodgers and '95 Braves in MLB and 1999 Spurs titles were also tainted. Man some Redskin fans are so dumb.
Again, yours is an old argument, long discredited. Is a gold medal in the sprint worth less than a gold in the marathon? Name one team that would have been more likely to win it all in 16 games in 82. Gibbs worked a revolution in 82-83, and the Redskins were essentially unbeatable until Walsh caught on to Gibbs in the second half of that championship game in 83 (which the niners should have won).
You're full of crap. Your posts are nothing more than subtle jabs at the Redskins.
The '82 team is the only top seed in NFL history to have to win 3 games to make it to the SB.
The '87 team defeated the Bears at Solider Filed in Walter Payton's last game.
There is nothing "dampered" at all about both titles. This is just your subtle "who me?" way of taking shots at the Skins as a Giants fan, further proof that the G-Men have the dumbest fanbase in the NFL, bar none.
Also many broadcasters/sportswriters in MLB with the 1981 Dodgers, 1995 Braves, the NBA with the 1998/99 Spurs and the NHL with the 1995 Devils since those leagues also lost their season also tarish their ttiles.
Your quoting broadcasters/sportswriters, but do you form your own opinion on the matter or let them decide for you? If you feel work stoppage requires an asterisk, but games played in a season, roster size, scouting, race or ethnic exclusion doesn't fall into that same category, then so be it. My opinion is that if asterik for one reason, you need to treat the other "unfair" or different scenarios the same. Embrace the history of the time and honor the achievement the team did.
ccarr your 'boys' riggins and theisman lost 7-8 games due to the '82 strike and thus a spot in the NFL Hall of Fame.
While i don't always agree with the writers/broadcasters & media people, i agree 100% that the '82 and '87 seasons in NFL have asteriks because mainly **not a full season was played.*
Even during World War 2, between 1943-45, all records in NFL, MLB and NHL Hockey were 'aterisks* due to most of players being away in combat and the seasons being shortned.
Sorry Hog fans. The 1982 & 87 Redskins championship seasons were both asteriks because of the 'strikes' in both years.
Especially the 1982 season, in which only 9 games were played.
The only 'legit' super bowl title for the Redskins was the 1991 season with Mark Rypien as quaterback.
Not an attack but being honest. I say the same thing for the 1981 LA Dodgers, 1995 Atlanta Braves and 1999 SA Spurs too for also having **asteriks* on their titles in strike seasons in their leagues too.
So you would also put Asterisks on Ladainan Tomlinson's touchdown mark, since that came in 16 game season instead of 14?
All teams were able to compete. The Giants this year showed you don't have to dominate, or even win your division to get to the Super Bowl. It is who is playing best through the playoffs.
You can keep your asterisks to yourself! Thanks for your comment:)
Stuff like the 14/16 regular season is 'diiferent' than a 'work stoppage' in which about 30% of the regular season (ie 1982 NFL season)is very different.
Also in 1982, there was No division champs as both conferences were put into 14 team leagues with the 'top 8 teams' maming the playoffs.
Ccarr you probably were not born in '82 but i was alive and many people to this day still feel the 82 season was tarnished. This is *not a knock against that great Redskin team of the 80's/early 90's.
USAGiant, I was around for those great Redskins years, no reason to pull that card. I disagree with your assessment of the work stoppage. Athletes still competed and won games. Management (in the 87 season, there were scab players) had to procure replacements and coach them. So, maybe the 'level' might be in question, but everyone was in equal situations.
Would asterisk anything before integration of any of the major sports, because no blacks or latinos were allowed to play?
CCarr you afraid to reply as a Redskins lover? I already been 'fair' in stating that the '82 strike probably costed both Riggins and Theisman a place in the NFL hall of fame.
I also stated the Redskins were a 'great team' in the 80's/early 90's, 2nd best of that era to the 49ers.
CCARR why did you bring race into it? That another issue about people of 'color' not in mass numbers till the 1950's.
If a 'regular scheduled' season is cut, in all cases, it's an asterik. period.
Hey bro CCARR hey i was not 'arguing' with you. I was just disagreeing on you about the '82 Redskins super bowl title and that season as a whole. This was not a 'dis' against the redskins of that era either. I was dissing the records that all.
No doubt that era between 1981-1991 they were the 2nd best team in NFL during that era(after of course the 49ers winning '4 titles)and i could be wrong won more regular season games than anyone at that time.
Hey USA Giant, the last time I checked, the great John Riggins has a bust enshrined in Canton, Ohio. Oh, I'm sorry, you must have gone through the NY City public school system, so you probably don't read well and certainly haven't gained mastery over this newfanlged invention called the internet.
Dr5544 i corrected myself. thanks for the update. and by way i did graduate collge my friend.
Riggins was not a 1st ballot HOF. I was trying to type that Riggins could have been an all time Back(along lines of Franco, Allen etc)and the '82 and '87 strikes hurt both him & Theisman. This is not again those great Redskins of those years, it was a knock/dis against the entire NFL. Stop the hate Skin fans i would have said it to any team at that time.
I watched the 82 season, and so did SI's Dr. Z, no friend of the Skins and a Giants fan in fact. He disagrees with you completely. The difference in 82 and 87 was Gibbs. He kept his team together during the strikes where other coaches (like Parcells and Landry in 87) could not. In 82, the Skins played and beat all the other strong NFC teams (SF flopped that year) and were clearly better than anyone in the AFC. The strike argument is an old one, no one takes it seriously anymore.
lol u know what? no better teams out there than the following: 08 Lions, 76 Bucs, 90 Bills, 91 Bills, 92 Bills, and 93 Bills. Lol

No doubt that era between 1981-1991 they were the 2nd best team in NFL during that era(after of course the 49ers winning '4 titles)and i could be wrong won more regular season games than anyone at that time.
I guess we agree to 'disagree.'
