Hey Criss, if you're coming back to review more movies and want to review some older ones....would like to hear what you think of the Terry Gilliam film Brazil. Why? Because it's my favourite film ever and I want to know if you agree, or hate it!!
I don't like this movie. It have the same mistake that Inception, because it have a good argument, a really good argument, but they don't used it very well. The movie turns to a yankie classical movie at the end.
I'm actually kind of serious about this. If Inception won the best picture I wouldn't have a problem with it with all the challenging scripts and all the visual effects, acting etc. But since I'm a psychologists who knows something about how the mind works, Nolan simply just makes waaaayyy too many assumptions about it that just isn't true, and they really bug me in the end about other things you should read Wesley morris reviews about it which I totally agree

Kids win oscars all the time (well, occasionally). Tatum o Neal and Anna Paquin come to mind and i think there were a few others. I put my money on Hailee Steinfeld. Oh, and i think Inception is overrated. Not a bad movie, just hopelessly overrated. There are Dr. Who episodes that are way better. I'm not going to fuck my face now, i did it already in the morning.
Black swan was fucking horrible beyond compare. True Grit was ok except for the girl; they could have done away with her and the movie would be much better.
Natalie Portman will lose to Annette Bening just as Ellen Burstyn as "Sara Goldfarb" lost to Julia No-Talent Roberts as "Erin Brockovich". Arronofsky is a great man, and his films are ALWAYS rejected by the Academy.
Inception was good, but it has its flaws. It was a fun movie, and realistically I enjoyed it as an action movie. It didn't "expand my mind" or any such shit like people claim. It was a good flick. Nolan makes entertainment for the box office. He is far from a great director. He is a marketer.
Black Swan was a much better movie IMO. Maybe not as entertaining but it was a better story and it was better acted. It was a true exploration of the mind, while Inception was made for the masses.
@Reip187 before you make crazy claims about how he is a great director...just because he makes good movies doesn't mean he is great at his craft. He is a good director that simplifies his craft and makes damn good movies. He just isn't an amazing director. He has great content to work with and adequately presents it. I just never feel blown away by his presentation, nor does he move me with HOW he films a movie. Nothing wrong with this though. Dude makes bank and highly entertaining films.
how difficult is it to keep up with the movies likely to be oscar noms in Romania? Do you go see all these in theaters there or do you have to download them?
127 Hours??? You need to talk with some of the women that were in Moab, Utah that had the mis-pleasure of dealing with him prior to his self-induced stupid hike. The guy failed to tell anyone where he was going to hike. He failed to plan for hiking in the area around Moab, where many of your favorite westerns have been made. If you are just looking at it for a fictional story with loose basis on something that happened, then judge it for Hollywood fantasy only.
salut, Michelangelo male panther god of art and creativity lol ; D

My vote for Best Picture is True Grit.... mostly because it's the only one I've see. I also don't remember seeing the original (not a big Duke fan), but I have to agree with you that TG is the best western I've seen in many years.
I believe that anyone who believes that the movie Inception was overrated and then follows through on - as you put it - "fucking themselves in the face" should receive the porn movie industry's equivalent of an Oscar, because that's got to be a performance which would be next to impossible to beat..
I love it how I was always told to be myself, don't act like someone I'm not, but these people get awards for it? Why is it that police officers, and fire fighters, and medical people who actually are heroes rather than pretending to be one....why don't they get awards one night on t.v. all dressed up fancy? Criss, you're awesome, brilliant, and ooo la la gorgeous, but all these actors/esses make more money than they deserve, they don't need some snobby ass award also.
127 hours? Always tell as many people possible where you are going and when you are to expected back from your trip into the wilderness.Otherwise you deserve your fate.
nominate Rachel Maddow, a 3-degree Harvard Suma-Cum-Laude Ph.D valedictorian with the professional journalistic integrity, dedication to fact/accuracy, sophisticated brilliance, social-economic cultural conscience, creativity, vast academic knowledge, depth of understanding of wide array topics rarely seen since Walter Kronkite

Inception; fascinating concept that didn't translate well to film. (rather fuck you in the face, still friends?)
Natalie Portman was good in The black swan. (and not just because she had lesbian fantasies about her nemesis(?) but that never hurt

I actually think Wahlberg is well suited to playing Mickey Ward, precisely because he doesn't have that aggressive personality that his brother, his mother and his girlfriend all seem to have in spades. That scene in the gym where he's saying "I'm the one who's fighting. Not you, not you and not you." His biggest challenge in the film is not to win any one particular fight, but to be his own man not let everyone around him make the decisions for him. In that sense Mark W. was well cast.

@TomMSTie1138 Knee high socks on a beautiful, brainy chic are SO FUCKING HOT! And the lavendar nails matching the lavendar socks and blouse are driving me fucking crazy!!!
@TheDreamMechanic Until I saw the Fighter I was getting a little tired of him. Felt he always played the same role. He acted them all the same I mean. I just never really felt he was in roles that made me say "damn that was some great acting". Just had some good roles in good movies and that was it.
Him in The Fighter though was amazing. You could totally forget he was Bale in that movie he was so good.
The sisters made that movie for me though. Laughed every time they were on screen..LOL
Whenever a movie is as critically acclaimed as Inception there is always a group of people that have to say its overrated just to prove how contrarian they are. Very few movies are as unique and as well put together as Inception. And it had as good a cast as you will find.
I think that, although inception is a good movie, its main idea makes no sense. One certainly can dream that one goes to bed, falls asleep and starts to dream. But once the later dream begins, the former stops. One simply cannot experience two simultaneous dreams.
I hate how people entertain a bunch of unemployed millionaires (actors), who get their asses kissed by us hard working nobody's. I wish everyone would just ignore these stupid ass award shows. The postal carrier that puts your mail in your mailbox everyday deserves more attention than these attention whores.
Bale was beyond amazing in The Fighter, and I hate that guy. They left out the Gatti fights tho =(
Also True Grit was my favorite movie of the year, I think it should take Best Picture. It's not as complex or "big" as Inception, but it gets incredible mileage out of a simple story and small cast. Jeff Bridges is also my pick for best actor. The guy even managed to wring an awesome performance out of Tron: Legacy, not that it was a bad movie at all.
Their so-called "royalty" is also nothing but tinker "royalty" because they are Christians who obtained their so-called "right" to rule from the Catholic Church. Not that monarchy is legitimate anyway.
Mark Wahlberg is the most wooden actor since Keanu. I don't think I've ever seen him in anything where his acting was anything other than atrocious... your description of his movie sounded like every early Tom Cruise film!
He was a good cocktail maker, a great cocktail maker! Then he had a crisis of confidence and he can't make cocktails any more, until he meets a girl who sets him right and lets become an even better cocktail maker.
He was a good fighter pilot/race driver etc etc *Yawn* ;o)
Shouldn't Hailee Stanfield be in the Best Actress category? I mean it may go back and forth in the nomination room, but she was in EVERY SCENE. And anyway it's unfortunate that there are still so few strong roles for women to fill out the Best Actress category.
I don't agree with Inception. I mean, was The Matrix even nominated? I think it was a way better movie, and one that will be referenced for years and years to come.
Also, I adore Nathalie Port, and I think she did the best acting work, but given the Academy's records, I don't think she will win. :'(
Another key element to The Social Network is the screenplay written by Aaron Sorkin. That guy can write dialogue, even in movies or tv that aren't completely outstanding. Take for example Charlie Wilson's War. Not exactly the most gripping movie of all time (I lost all respect for Tom Hanks after he did The DaVinci Code), but what keeps the movie interesting is the dialogue (Phillip Seymour Hoffman kicks ass in that movie).
I haven't seen true grit yet but I plan to. Every role I've seen Jeff Bridges in kind of reminds me of his character the Dude from The Big Lebowski, it will be interesting to see him play a role that is a complete seperation from that.
I'm beginning to think one viewing of Inception was insufficient given the rave reviews. I came away thinking that a complex script + big budget + good actors doesn't automatically equal artistic success. I was underwhelmed given the hype but I'll definitely give it another chance.
Also, it's not Nolan's fault or anything, but I'm getting a bit sick of that character DiCaprio always plays, yeah, you know the same guy in every single movie he's been in for the last decade.
completely agree with regards to inception. Some people seem to just be skeptical about movies that are extremely popular or hyped. It's almost a kind of hate for the masses. The masses liked Pirates of the Caribbean 3 (which was one of the worst movies that I have ever seen). The masses also liked inception. therefore inception must be an overrated and crappy movie. It was the same thing with Avatar. But I still believe that inception was one of the best, or the best, movie of the year.
Inception was great BUT it could stand to lose a few pounds! you could easily take out a 1/3 of the film (the parts where they are floating around in slow mo... forever) and it would be just as good. Compare that to True Grit where every frame adds to the story...
Inception is only overrated because every tard who's seen it has only seen it and not every other movie that's come out. So they jump on it's cock and ride it all day long. Rather then checking out some other movies and seeing how they stand up against it. It's definitely one of the best films of the year if not the best but the typical movie tard needs to hop off of it and acknowledge the other great movies of '10.
@thePANDEMlC Do you seriously think every tard watches only ONE movie? I've seen many films this year and Inception is very high on the best films of last decade..
@TheAtheistSwede haha Ricky Gervais was hilarious. I don't know what the Hollywood Foreign Press was expecting when they hired him to host it again. Ricky made no secret as to what kind of host he would be.
99.9% agreement from me all the way down the list. I haven't made my mind up about Best Pic. But Hailey Stanfield should be given a Best Actress nomination.
And I hope Natalie Portman can't be there at the Oscars to accept her award. In her acceptance speech at the Golden Globes she looked like a beautiful china doll, but that illusion dissolved once she started speaking. She behaved like a silly ditzy little girl--which is okay if you really are a little girl-but she isn't one anymore.
i sat through this video and didn't see an ounce of skin. needless to say, i am disappointed.
but hey, at least i didn't make a comment about how inception sucks right? hell, i only needed to see about 2 minutes of the end to know that movie was epic...
Great video, Cristina, but I wouldn't write off Hailee Steinfeld as a possible winner just yet. Tatum O'Neil won the oscar for best supporting actress for a film called Paper Moon when she was 10 years old. Then Anna Paquin won that same award for The Piano when she was 11. I'm not sure if any other kids have won oscars before, but those two are the ones I know of. Also, I completely agree with you on Inception. It has pretty much everything that makes a movie great.
When you said "I want to have his adopted children" I thought you said "I want to have his abducted children". (Note to myself: Really? That's what you got from this video?)
Black Swan would deserve the Award for best picture and leading actress... best supporting actress would be True Grit's Hailee Steinfeld. SFX goes to Inception, there is not much more, Inception would deserve in my eyes.
The fact inception is nominated annoys me. If it wins, I'll put a gun to my head... and go crazy in a limbo dream world where Inception was never made. It's beautiful... Chris Nolan still hasn't made a bad film!
damn i can't get enough of those socks... but don't worry i still could follow your words just fine...
and yes the only thing that bothers me about the oscars is this "everybody is special" mentality, isn't that what the lifetime achievement oscar is for? (my favorite one)
I was a little disappointed in Inception. It was shot beautifully, the acting was great, it was really well done. But, I felt it was way over rated. I wasn't blown away at all. It could be because I've had dreams way better. Although it was good, I wasn't amazed.
Hey Criss, if you're coming back to review more movies and want to review some older ones....would like to hear what you think of the Terry Gilliam film Brazil. Why? Because it's my favourite film ever and I want to know if you agree, or hate it!!

And it had as good a cast as you will find.
fortyone0 1 year ago

I like your socks.

I don't agree with Inception. I mean, was The Matrix even nominated? I think it was a way better movie, and one that will be referenced for years and years to come.
Also, I adore Nathalie Port, and I think she did the best acting work, but given the Academy's records, I don't think she will win. :'(
LimenSpirit 1 year ago

It's definitely one of the best films of the year if not the best but the typical movie tard needs to hop off of it and acknowledge the other great movies of '10.
thePANDEMlC 1 year ago

99.9% agreement from me all the way down the list. I haven't made my mind up about Best Pic. But Hailey Stanfield should be given a Best Actress nomination.
And I hope Natalie Portman can't be there at the Oscars to accept her award. In her acceptance speech at the Golden Globes she looked like a beautiful china doll, but that illusion dissolved once she started speaking. She behaved like a silly ditzy little girl--which is okay if you really are a little girl-but she isn't one anymore.

Black Swan would deserve the Award for best picture and leading actress... best supporting actress would be True Grit's Hailee Steinfeld. SFX goes to Inception, there is not much more, Inception would deserve in my eyes.

I was a little disappointed in Inception. It was shot beautifully, the acting was great, it was really well done. But, I felt it was way over rated. I wasn't blown away at all. It could be because I've had dreams way better. Although it was good, I wasn't amazed.
