Uh dang y'all I may not have a degree in theology but I know enough to say that 1 Aron whatever ur face, someone in ur life that was a Christian hurt u very deeply and that is y u r filled with hatred 2 you obviously have read the bible but have an elementary understanding of it. The basis of my claims are all the scriptures and the commentary tht follows on ur posts
HaleyNicoleSumner - What people believe or not cant be granted 'Respect'. What will you do if i say idolatry is the best God worship? As a christian will you respect that or pretend u do? Reason christianity cant be automatically Respected is because of its atrocious history towards all other faiths -particularly Jews and Pagans all over the world. Christians who maintain still literalist positions dogmatically also cant be Respected since its full of unscientific nonesense.
@Aron51869 I will Respect whatever religion you have or whatever lack of religion you have,It's not my Place to Judge you or tell you why it 'Wrong'.I'm no Better than you,and you're no better than me.I have several bestfriends who are Jewish and I love that they have a different Religion than me,It gives me a different perspective on certain things. It's great having people who can give me their side of the story or how their religion looks at things.
I can go on endlessly and you can go on shaking your head. That Christian Bible didnt get it right is long known to Jewish scholars. This was why Popes went after them and burnt their books. So they couldnt tell how full of errors the book they claimed aws from Judaism if they are finished off like they did the Pagans. Pagans too wrote the same- Like Julian the Apostate-"how different are your myths to ours" he asked. Son of god was very common Pagan Idea. Martyred and Resurrected.
In Luke 11:50-51, Jesus warns that the "blood of all the prophets, shed from the foundation of the world, may be required of this generation, from the blood of Abel to the blood of Zechariah." However, Abel (the son of Adam and Eve) was not a prophet. There would not even have been anyone on earth for him to prophesy to, other than Adam, Eve, and his brother Cain.
Also in Mark 2:26, Jesus says that David gave the holy bread "to those who were with him." But David's men were not with him when he asked the priest to give him the bread. The priest even asked David, "Why are you alone, and no one with you?" (1 Samuel 21:1)
Jesus tries to justify the harvesting of grain on the sabbath by referring to a story in which David ate the holy bread "when Abiathar was high priest." But the priest at that time was Ahimelech, not Abiathar, as we can read in 1 Samuel 21:1-6.
Ronniecob40 "only minor deviations" ...yeah. How else yopu would put it since i see u simply have no idea what its all about? I said 453 books. Of which the so called Old Testament took 5 they wongly thought was the Old Testament! Thats just the starter. If i have to tell u how horrendously they got it all wrong we both need to sit with fat volumes and I hav to take u through one by one. If u really want to I can do that- how way off wrong they got it. Spare the readers here.
Ronniecob40-" So i guess you just have the origin of life ALL figured out then"? Yes. Same way we guess Plagiarised Pagan myths of Bible has it all figuerd out!! You are amazing. Science is constant discovery and more information. Myths are easy simplistic and reductionst- so that 'explanis everything' ?Nothing.
"Do you have evidence for all that you are saying about the Jews"- Read the Biblical works not Old Testament that is mistranslated 5 books out of 453 books in total plus 4 hiegographical Notes of NT. "evidence'? Thats what u badly need to 'believe all written there as Facts. Secrets of Universe are to be read backwards from Mythical texts? or current research of scientists? According to u Sceintists' findings are 'opinions'- and Mythical Babylonian Pagan tales plagiarised are 'facts'!
@Aron51869 I have, and the ones they refer to are only minor deviations because there are not exact English translations from Hebrew. There are not exact English words to translate for every Hebrew word, but they do not change the overall text of the Scripture, or its meaning.
One thing striking in typical christian apologia is the inability to accept objectivity, and a preference for a particular Myth. In this the Savages fare better when science enlightens them, but our reader of the good book lags behind since much of such not very different primitive crap tales has to be left behind as useless baggage. Instead he would carry on his head on shoulders very common place rubbish like Sons of gods-Ra Meses (Moses), and Christos (many Roman emperors). Child minds.
The Evolution of life forms is based on same Experiment+Observation= deductive process called science.Something objective. Amino acids are dispersed uniformly throughout galaxies and Planetary evolution already observed at other earth, solar systems and that expalins not according to you how we are here! But more satisfactory explanation is a 'belief' thats same as this (!?) based on babylonian texts of Deluge and Egypto-=Ptolemic Myths jews borrowed and from them your ciultheads. Wow.
@Aron51869 So i guess you just have the origin of life ALL figured out then. Even though countless scientists cannot explain it, you seem to have accessed the secrets of the universe. Bravo
Do you have evidence for all that you are saying about the Jews? It seem to me most times, I Am hearing the opinions of atheists, rather than something that is based on fact and evidence, which is supposed to be the staple for an atheist to believe ANYTHING.
Ronniecob40Non sequitor 1. " Show me ANYTHING, that corroborates your belief that we cease to exist when we die"- Reply- Why on earth granting that it should be related to this Jesus tale and Jeudo-Greek pagan mix, and not some similar Totem pole dancer in place of Crucifix Holy Ghostly cannibalist cultist? Non-sequitor 2. Rockets fly to moon and outer space, surgeries are done, airflight happens day and night and so on and thats also a 'belief' like dead man come back End of day since 3rd CE?
@Aron51869 WHY, i have already given you evidence why. Because the Bible is the ONLY Holy Book that correctly predicts the future, and only God can do that. You can choose to ignore the video I sent you, but there is no way you can discount it, because you can do the math and historical research yourself.
Ronniecob40."Actually the Bible has scientific proof that it is the True Word of God" ! ? wow. Why dont you ask some science journal to publish it immediately. Maybe they give you a Noble prize? Or Prozac.
@Aron51869 Well, it is more evidence than what atheists have that THEIR beliefs are correct. Show me ANYTHING, that corroborates your belief that we cease to exist when we die.
icewomen881-since you grew up 'believing' in fairy tales as facts, and facts dont sit well with such myths, you need to to question them and eqvivocate Myth with Science. Homosapien evolution from Primate tree conflicts with 7 days a work shift with a weekend off and Rib rip artist Gody thing- so you think science must also be some sort of crap belief system like that. Evolution is seen with telescopes every day- galaxies evolve, like planets-Bible writers saw grasshoppers and God seated bla bla
@Aron51869 What kind of Evolution, the indesputable kind, like animals and plants evolving to fit there enviroment but still remaing the SAME species, or the kind atheists REALLy want to have happened but have NO EVIDENCE of, like animals and species evolving into entirely new species? That type of evolution is a myth, for which you have NO conclusive proof. So it is atheists who are deliberately believing a fairy tale in there attempt to remove God from there life.
"Oh Please you believe we are monkeys and come from a rock! "- why need to "believe" at all? and see what facts are at hand? Earth is a rocky watery planet at the habitable zone like a million others in this side of the galaxy. Nothing to 'believe in the evolution of biochemicals or life forms. Earth itself evolves from a less habitable volcanic soup to presnet life sustaining atmospheric. We dont also need to "believe" if you fill gas in ur car trank the car will run ! Weak minds need that.
So Abraham who is said to be from Ur was 90 years plus when he had a kid by Sara who was already 70 plus and barren -thats History for you? not biblical 'Tales'- well, Gynaecological History makers to have childbirths at 70 ! If u believe in such crap as real history no wonder- Moses and his band survived on Manna that fell from skies and lived 40 years in desert! Another agricultural History making !! proceed-best way to become child like or a fairy tale historian.
In Deut 20:10-15, God says, while attacking a city, first offer peace. If they accept, enter and take them as slaves...
So this is Slave Traders' God? Why attack other peoples' cities? Why should they accept your imbecile God's terms and accept Peace and become Slaves? Are they mad like this thinking? Is that Peace? How about My God telling me go to your town and say I offer Peace- surrender- and become slaves? How will you look at such a crazy demented freako? There are good medications.
In Deut 20:10-15, God says, while attacking a city, first offer peace. If they accept, enter and take them as slaves. If they refuse, attack. If you win, take all the women and children "as plunder for yourselves."
And do what with them?
Is this God for all times? Or Muammar Gaddafi talking?
Is this your moral gauge? Or were these rules just "for that culture?"
Then this Holy Crap Gaddafi Book belongs there- a God good for bygone Gaddifi people.
Morons are the ONLY ones who accept every crap written in some piece of shit ancient book without a shred of evidence - contradictions, immorality, incest, quirkiness, vindictiveness and accept that as Holy crap with no need to prove or be even sane or sound thinking. Dementia means this-that 21rst century people must look into medieval and babylonian myths and tales and babble and imagine they know how it all works with Big daddy GOD boo...you are going to hell rant. God delusion trippers.
@Aron51869 Actually the Bible has scientific proof that it is the True Word of God.youtube.com/watch?v=OWng3m7REdQ&list=FLpNVm3NyafUp5kgfE7LXeXw&index=56
@Aron51869 I'm a Christian.I'm not going to tell you you're ging to Hell,I'm not going to try to make you Believe in the Lord or Critize you for having your own Beliefs. But I am going to ask that you Respect the Fact that there are People who believe in The Lord.
@HaleyNicoleSumner you're going to heaven, disbelievers are going to hell. Why do you care what people say about your god?
According to you christians, you get eternity in heaven. Now, if you look at it mathematically, humans living have a finite amount of years to live, but after you die, you have an infinite amount of years to live. So, our years on earth is an INFINITELY SMALL amount of time. Why do you care that people are poking fun of your illogical beliefs?
@feuchster I care because I don't judge you or try to explain to you why being a Atheist is wrong,so why do you feel the need to explain to me why being a Christian is 'illogical'?
@HaleyNicoleSumner Oh, so you don't want people to criticize ANYTHING on the bases "peoples feewings might get huwrt". Well, poor baby. Maybe you should stop trying to tell people to close their mouths because it makes you feel better.
News flash, critiquing things makes the world better.
example - Would you tell a person who invented a bike with square wheels how to improve on his invention? You would explain to him/her how it would be more efficient, and why square wheels are illogical.
Jesus told this jesus told that...and then God said this and did that. Blood shed is justified. Real crazy heads these. Cant even talk coherently- why God killed Amorites- because they did human sacrifice of their kids. And what did God guy do with his supposed illegtimate son ? same deal- and then more blah blah as though these wierdos talk with God and they are great pals. Its getting unsafe and creepy to read so many nuts around walking freely without medication.
It does not matter if atheists get offended by the Bible. Atheists are the ONLY ones who demand proof of Gods existence. Why should we provide proof, no one else that has never heard of what Jesus did and hears of it for the first time demands proof. Jesus even told us not to waste our time talking to YOU about it. Dont throw you pearls to pigs, they will only trample on them and then turn and attack you. So why do you think your so special that you deserve proof, when no one else asks for it
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Thats funny, in one instance you condemn child murder, rape and incest, then turnaround and call all those ppl who were murdered innocent Thats exactly what they were doing, and exactly why God killed them. They were sacraficing there children alive in fire to false gods,Who are atheists to say its wrong? You get your morals from the society u live in, if society condones it, so do you, so maybe if that society allowed it, what makes you think u have a right to say its wrong anyways
@beastshawnee You have a right to say its wrong, but that does not mean that YOU are right. Alot criminals think its wrong for the judge to send them to prison.
There WILL come a day, I GUARANTEE, you will see how right Christians were.
@aguteempasil How does it condone it, by talking about it because it actually happened?
Yeah, and how do you actually know that its wrong or was wrong for that culture. You only say it's wrong because the society you live in says it's wrong, you may feel differently if you lived in that culture, or maybe even North Korea. You have No Moral gauge other then society to compare it to. In a prison society, its normal to kill someone for no reason at all, does that make it moral?
@Ronniecob40 - "by talking about it because it actually happened"
You just outed yourself as either (1) ignorant or (2) dishonest. You think it's all history? Many of these things are God's COMMANDS.
In Deut 20:10-15, God says, while attacking a city, first offer peace. If they accept, enter and take them as slaves. If they refuse, attack. If you win, take all the women and children "as plunder for yourselves."
Is this your moral gauge? Or were these rules just "for that culture?"
@43alley Like I said, these men God told them to kill were bad ppl, doing the same things atheist pretend to be so offeded by , like rape, murder, child sacrafice. God allowed them to spare the women and children, and you find this offensive. I Am sure you would have no problem with a hole town of child molestors being wiped out, or mayne even a whole town of Christians being wiped out, or would you?
@Ronniecob40 wrong, in a prison society that wouldnt be normal, that would be survival if it actually came to that. as for the bible, you cant say the verses that condem homosexuality punishable by death aren't there, nor the part about stoning your own daugther to death if she isnt a virgin on her wedding night. jesus taught that the old laws should be upheld and respected. now...as for jesus, what is so moral about saying give no thought for the morrow and follow me?
@aguteempasil In the OT, there was only 1 way to atone for sin, through a sacrafice, which quite a few did not do, so they were left in their sin, which requires punishment by Gods Holy nature. Jesus dying on the cross invalidated the need for animals to be killed, which means ANYONE, including homosexuals can now be forgiven for there sin through the blood of Jesus. So homosexuality, along with every other sin committed, no longer requires death. We are to lead them to Jesus for forgiveness.
@Ronniecob40 look at what you just wrote and reflect on what you believe. God, an all loving father of us all, required punishment and human scarifice??? does that not sound a little bit insane to you? what is the point in creating us in the first place if only to suppress our natural human instincts? what kind of life is that? why does god want us to continuously grovel in worship at his feet? and jesus' very painful death...why? it just doesnt make sense. and i used to be a christian btw...
@Ronniecob40 by your logic it would seem that people were going around kiling others under the belief that that sort of behaviour was moral??? pffffft!
@Ronniecob40 Not true, at all. There are a lot of things that society condones that I do not - it's called being logical and thinking for yourself, which is something Christians aren't well known for.
@HuehuehueEsBest YEah, and what might that be? That society allows Christians to build churches and thrive?
I can think for myself, but thinking for myself always gets me in trouble, that why I try to do things the way Jesus tells me to do them. People who want to think for themselves basically are saying they do not like the thought of Someone else being in control of their life, the thought that God could demand your life from you at any moment is what scares most atheists.
@Ronniecob40 They were 'bad' because they were sacrificing their kids? why what is Jesus crucification which both agree and stage? God did the same then? God did the same sin for which he killed women and kids and people, and that wsa to absolve Original sin? It takes a bit of considerable messup in the haed to reason like this.
@Aron51869 God is Holy, and CANNOT overlook our sin, just like the law will not over look someone who murders, it requires they be punished. The shedding of blood is the ONLY way, for remission of sin. Jesus dying on the cross eliminated the need for animals to be killed every year, which was only temporary.
Jesus laid down His life, they were allowed to kill Him, and because He was God, He rose again. Thats why Christians speak of His Love, HE came to earth to die, so YOU would not have to.
@Ronniecob40 actually, the "child murder, rape and incest" part were from the Yaweh follower gang, not from the ones they killed. Don't believe me? Go read the bible ;)
@icewomen881 Thank you. You and I both know one day, ALL atheists will believe in God/Jesus. Most ppl( with the exception of atheists) do not spend there entire life talking about something they don't believe in. We know atheists say they do not believe in God, but they seem to be the ones who are maddest at Him.
@Ronniecob40 OH yes completely agree with you. The bible says ''one day every knee shall bow and confess that you are God". God bless you and I pray you reach many souls for him :)
Protestants believe more heavily on the individual's interpretation of Scripture. Catholics OTOH (I'm Catholic) believe that the individual has the right to read the Bible. However, we have 2000 years of Tradition. Tradition can be said to be the "Sacred Discussion" about Scripture. We read Scripture through the lens of Tradition. Which believers are you talking about?
@sulkow82 Same question applies to Christians, given the vast splintering among the landscape (most notably the different denominations). I'm bold enough to say the correct interpretation should follow out of the scientific union of history, literature, several scientific aspects (environment, conditions, behavioral evolution ...) subject to peer review, not incorporating the current interpretation of the different denominations, since it is highly dependent of the current facets of society.
@avdmeers Here is the thing about "peer review." The question then becomes "who are the peers for which their review is considered and how deeply." For Christian thought a classic example is the Eucharist (the ritual involving bread and wine as set up at the Last Supper).
Catholics believe that this is the physical presence of Christ. Protestant beliefs vary from denomination to denomination. Their beliefs vary from being quite close to Catholic belief on over to calling it idol worship.
@avdmeers First, I would like to ask with so much varying beliefs on the one issue, how would you settle the situation?
The reason I use Catholicism as the baseline is for several reasons. The Catholic approach is to take a look at how did the first generations of Christians view this issue. This historical records show the Christians held the same opinion as modern Catholicism.
Yes, there is a great deal of splintering in Christianity today. However, splintered off from where? Catholicism.
@sulkow82 To me it doesn't matter from which the denominations splinter off, what matters is that the interpretation, the issue here, differs. The first choice would be Catholicism, but you can't deny its history is also marked by power abuse and crime. No, I wouldn't let any denomination form the baseline.
Here's why I choose scientific "peer review". It is meant as a convergent process. The theory (read interpretation or underlying motivations that led to the bible) (continued)
@avdmeers Some people would use the "peer review" method for the purpose of distorting the original intent of the text (ie. moral relativism). Such methods can be highjacked by politics and pandering to being politically correct. It has been said "I don't need a guiding Church when everyone else is correct. I need a guiding Church when everyone else is wrong."
I disagree with the idea that just because faith is not based on the five senses, it automatically abandons reason.
@sulkow82 The issue of interpretation of scripture is simple. It can boil down to the question of "why haggle over what scripture says when the meaning was arrived at long ago?" It's like assuming our generation would be the first to arrive at the correct interpretation of the texts.
The only Christians who would want "peer reviews" for interpretation would be those who don't want the original interpretation promoted. Now, how scripture is to be applied, now that does often need discussion.
@sulkow82 ... will be tested using facts and reason. Given the scientific method, it provides the most likely chance that an answer will be found. Now add in a religious instance, and it will try to impose its interpretation, beliefs, warping the work, as it is very likely not to conform to what facts we have anymore. It will lead to either a divergent process or a cyclic process, where claims are falsified and reintroduced, thus leading to no end result.
@avdmeers Here is why I cited (and subscribe to the Catholic methodology). In Catholicism, there is no cyclic process. You could say there is a "peer review" process in some parts of discussion within the Church. However, once a decision is arrived at, there is no cyclic process. When a decision is arrived at on how to interpret a scripture, that stands.
From a secular POV, this is philosophy, not science. So the scientific method of testing does not apply.
@sulkow82 In my opinion many parts can be approached using a scientific view. Domains such as behavioral evolution definitely have something to say as to why parts of the bible have been written down. Many 'observations' in the bible can be explained only by science (plague, red sea, ...).
I don't agree with a never-changing decision, everything changes. The decision to be against sexual prevention and abortion is outdated and does not look at elements such as poverty, health, ...
@avdmeers If chastity outside of marriage was all the rage, then the AIDS epidemic would never have gotten the foothold it did.
Also, YOU don't accept the everlasting decision idea. However, in order to get the Catholic Church to accept your peer review, your opinion is not the issue. A key part of the Catholic understanding is that Tradition (ie. "Sacred Discussion" about scripture) is above the Pope. The Pope can't change Tradition because no person or group on Earth has the authority to.
@sulkow82 Tradition sets down guidelines on how to interpret Scripture (left-brain (LB) activity). Within those boundaries established by LB is the authority of right-brain (RB). When something is within those boundaries, it is the duty and obligation of the LB to defend the RB's chance to do its work.
Also, speaking of interpretation of Scripture. I'm not sure how you would get your "peer review" to work on this level.
@sulkow82 In one way, the great schism of 1054 is about this issue. The issue of primacy of the Pope was the "straw that broke the camels back" for the Eastern Churches to break away from Rome.
I should also say that my left brain right brain explanation is a key reason why I stay in the Catholic Church. I love the boundaries that the Church sets and I love the freedom that the Church gives me within those boundaries.
@sulkow82 As a side-note on the AIDS epidemic, I find it necessary to mention that chastity is an ideal without proper motivation. It is a battle Catholicism cannot win, since the best counter strategy is by understanding human nature, the behavior being dictated by evolutionary principles.
I'm interested by what you refer to as "Tradition", I'll look into that. But it also exposes the main difference between us. When I talk about "peer review", I say so out of the assumption (continued)
@sulkow82 that the bible is written by humans, hence the vast knowledge gained in psychology, ... can help determine why passages were written and underlying ideas. Just like we can say something about e.g. Nietzsche and why he supported his ideas. After all, there is no evidence it is "the word of god".
Your notion of LB-RB activity is yours to keep, but I'd like to point out as an atheist that morality is not a monopoly of the Church, and our motivation can be linked (continued)
@sulkow82 to the underlying ideas that can be hidden in the bible text (altruism, hygiene, ...). I find what the Church has to offer is not evolving with the progressing time. The Tradition would have to be a very general framework to allow Catholicism to answer the problems of today. Moral topics today are different due to better technology (e.g. stem cell research) that benefit our standard of life, but are closely related to ethics. The boundary between good and bad is not that well marked.
@avdmeers Could you give me an example of how you feel the Church should evolve with the times (an issue and what you feel the Church's stand should be on that issue).
I actually like the fact that the Church just doesn't reflect whatever is the "flavor of the month" ethic. For me, there is wisdom in the proverb "stand for something, or you'll fall for anything."
@sulkow82 I assume you follow the teaching that life starts at inception? Scientific research has arguments against this and learns us the ability or development of consciousness forms several weeks/months after inception. This paves the way to abortion, which in my opinion is justified only in the first stages of fetal development and under strict rules (mother health, irresponsible behavior, ...). (continued)
@avdmeers Yes, I do follow the teaching that life starts at conception. I would ask you why the development of consciousness is the criteria for life (concerning the issue of abortion). How many people remember their own births (and yet causing the death of a day old baby will get someone a murder trial)?
The development of consciousness is not the beginning of life. It is a developmental stage of life once begun. Also, this does not offer a clear cut point to look to, conception does.
@sulkow82 Technically a harsh fact, but to associate a fully fledged person to a fetus is in itself a sick behavior which can only be explained to the desire of gene reproduction. The Church however has always remained adamant and disregards the potential bad environment given to the child after birth.
This is not some 'flavor of the month', it's more a 'flavor of billions of years of evolution'. Evolution does not simply change overnight, it provides strong evidence for social behavior.
@avdmeers It is a flavor of the month in that Roe v. Wade was only back in 1974 in the U.S.
However, the abandonment of children was even prominent in the Roman Empire. Unwanted children would be left by the side of the road to die. Christians who found such children alive would take them home and raise them.
As for genes, after fertilization is complete the fetus does have a unique genetic code.
The reason those environments are harsh is because man made them harsh. Circular logic.
@avdmeers BTW: Concerning you comment about "tradition would have be a general framework to allow Catholicism..."
In my person experience talking with people on this issue. Whenever they say that what they really mean is in order to answer the "problems of today" the Church needs to stop having an opinion. Stand for something, or you'll fall for anything.
@sulkow82 Are you saying that in order to "address the problems of today" the Church should simply "rubber stamp whatever society tells it to" and do nothing more?
@sulkow82 I refer to life here in the context of a human being. That has criteria, information (genome) is not enough. The development of the nerve system, formation of the brain are crucial factors here. Once active, the transition from "life" to a human being takes place.
The Tradition disregards these facts, scripture does not contain the information to know this. Instead it upholds an opinion, that at conception you are dealing with a human being. That is not the case. (continued)
@sulkow82 Roe Wade hardly even applies here, but is does expose the following. Science is descriptive, it does not come up with new "lifestyles/flavors". To tackle a problem like unwanted pregnancy and with it poverty, ... the source must be understood. This implies change, you seem to regard any form of change as poisonous.
Source for Christian adoption in the Roman Empire?
I mentioned the 'harsh fact' that in the first months you cannot speak of a human being, that is observation (continued)
@avdmeers I would also strongly recommend that everybody check out the the article "The Old, New Atheism" by Jackson Lears in the May 2011 issue of the New Republic. Just a brilliant, insightful well-reasoned polemic all around
@sulkow82 , that is not opinion. Your notion of circular logic is not valid. Attachment of a full fledged human persona to a blueprint of an organism is false.
Then you come up with the Church having an opinion, contradicting your stance on Tradition laying out guidelines to interpret scripture in absence of subjectivity. Mind commenting on this?
@avdmeers Sure. It seems like you want the Church to be reduced to rubber stamping what ever society says. As for Tradition and the Church. Tradition is the lens through which we read Scripture. Tradition is above the Pope in that the Pope can't say Tradition "X" which we have held true for hundreds of years is actually wrong. However, Tradition helps guide us through decision making.
@sulkow82 When the Church (or Pope) address a serious matter, the first step is to determine what issues are involved. Relevant Tradition(s) in the Church's history are researched. With all this in mind, a new statement is developed which must complement or develop the previous documents which were referenced. This new document then can be a building block for future statements/ opinions.
Also, the more a specific opinion is presented by theologians, the stronger it gets as a Tradition.
@sulkow82 On a side-note, stating that no person has remembrance of birth is untrue. Though not present on a conscious level, it definitely has impact on a subconscious level. This implies that the brain has stored information regarding the experience of birth, meaning we're dealing with a human being that can feel pain and interpret external stimuli, be it very primitive.
God is real. Atheism is a faith just like any religion or any other belief. The only difference here is God is real and He is alive today and working just like he did in the Bible times.
@wrightdevin39 Faith can be quantified by science, several experiments (e.g. the God helmet) show such possibility. Hence, due to the way atheists employ their brain, they shut down activity towards regions of the brain linked to religious experience, hallucinations, ... One can then say they are 'absent of faith'. Hence, it is no religion, and that is just a scientific argument, I can give other related to social behavior and rationality principles. I assume god is about to be fired?
I Love when people that don't know anything about God or The Bible try to dismiss it as superstitious or just crap. I am a believer and I don't think I'm 100% right in my beliefs but there IS a God, you need to have Faith (without proof) and when you do you'll know the Truth and the Truth will set you free. I was born again in a house surrounded by drugs, sex, music, cigs and beer, not being preached to. Not brain washed in a church. I just saw the sign and accepted it and it changed my life.
@97311177 You cant say there IS a God(s). There is no evidence for and against it. So it is 50% chance that there is and 50% that there isnt. But as far as the Judeo- Christian God, it prob doesnt not exist. It sucks that your life is surrounded by drugs, (nothing wrong with sex, except rape or incest), and the rest cigs and beer, those can do real damage. Your free to believe in a god(s), it would be better if it wasnt the psycho christian god tho, just sayin. good luck to ya!
@97311177 But it is superstitious crap. Take the bible out of the equation and try to prove your god exists. He only exists in the pages of that book and the minds of the indoctrinated and deluded.
Faith without proof is a cop-out.
You can only believe in god if you believe completely in the bible, because that is the only evidence you have. You cannot pick and choose which pieces of the bible to believe because you are then second guessing and thinking you know best.
@randomsrvapps I'm just curious im not being mean or anything. If none of us are born with souls and have none as u claim in that statement, then where do our emotions come from(love, anger, conviction, guilt, etc.)? If u will say they come from the heart then who do they arise within the heart? just wondering.
@Ben85paintball If you want Cartesian certitude, I can't even tell you that I myself exist. Nevertheless, as much as I know anything I know that Christ is the Son of God.
You have a nasty habit of projecting yourself on to everyone you meet. I'd break that, if I were you.
@VOYAGINGMONKEY again as i asked someone earlier, if we have no souls then how are we able to feel emotion any emotion whatsoever whether it be anger, sadness, happiness, guilt, conviction, etc.?
@wrightdevin39 you could read a book on biology. Not that I expect you to. Ever heard of emergent properties? How does empathy get into the heads of squirrels? Same answer.
@salerio61 I have read biology books before, thank you. Thats another reason why I dont believe in that stuff because its all concocted to disprove God when cannot be disproved and cannot fit into any one particular box because He is bigger and more complex than u could ever imagine.
@wrightdevin39 yes of course it is. All of science is a big conspiracy to disprove god. Get back into the dark ages with you and live under the yoke of the church. You don't believe science yet believe in a 3 thousand year old book of goat herders. Fantastic. Remain ignorant while the rest of us progress into the future
@salerio61 I am not under the dark ages I live in reality and the reality is God exists and He those who deny Him and word and action will be condemned to hell unless they repent and turn to Him for salvation. No I don't believe science, you know why? Because science is constantly changing and cannot be relied on. Id rather be foolish and ignorant to all of u and be wise in God's eyes than the other way around. God's Word hasn't changed and it never will. Science if foolishness and wrong.
Well get of that computer and get back on your knees. In mean time give up everything science has discovered and go back and live in a cave. You wouldn't last a week without everything science has discovered. Of course you won't because you know damn well praying for everything is going to do nothing.
Everything in science isn't bad, but everything is not good either.
There are many things that science creates that are very harmful to humans. You ever took alook at the drug industry. I travel alot and I don't see 30 year olds having heart attacks and strokes like they do in America.
With all the science America has, it has one of the poorest health status in the world.
So study alittle more before you go knocking something you seem to know very little about
@1HelpingMany So live without science and rely just on god. Go on, do it. You don't have the balls to even attempt it. Unlike brain-dead moronic christians I HAVE studied. You don't like science live without everything it's ever done. You wouldn't last a week either
@salerio61 I am on my knees enough and spiritually also not just physically my whole life is about God and prayer to Him and worship to Him. I don't trust science because it is faulty and cannot be relied on because new scientific discoveries are being made almost everyday that proves older scientific discoveries wrong and obsolete. I can last in anything and without much because God is my provider and He knows what I can take and canno take. Maybe to you prayer doesn't do anything...
@salerio61Because u speak of someone and judge someone falsely of whom you don't believe on or in. Prayer means everything, God is real. Do you want proof? I got proof God exists and is real. Last night i was at a gathering at a friend's house and my friend had his arm in a sling and i felt God tell me to go ask the guy in a sling if i could pray for Him and when i went and told him, he told me he felt God spoke to him and say that devin is going to come ask to pray for u, and that was...
@salerio61 that was confirmation God specifically told me what to go and do and i obeyed. Make a long story short, the my friend walked out of the house last night carrying his sling in his hand and able to move and lift it with minimal pain as opposed to earlier when he said he could barely lift it because it felt torn or pulled. Now tell me how else that is possible if there is no God or if God isn't a miracle worker? Science cannot heal our bodies and cannot set us free like Jesus can.
@salerio61 I believe in God and im not ignorant, only the ignorant person is the one who is wrong and doesn't realize they are wrong. Im not wrong because i follow the only one true God and He is real.
@1HelpingMany I don't need to use wikipedia - although it might help if you did you might learn something.
Instead of avoiding the questions answer them. Do you know how to make fire, tan a hide, knap a flint? If you don't want science that is where you're going to be.
The rest of what you say is just ignorant showing you know nothing about science.
Yes I do know how to do the things you wrote. I have actually went out of the comfort of my home and went to live off the land.
What's interesting with all your tough talk, when the U.S. dollar collapses alot of you science people are going to wish you had learned how to do the things you speak of. Most of you have a hard time adding numbers up without using a calculator
@1HelpingMany No you don't you're lying. Live off the land lol. With a tent (science), steel knives (science), steel wire for traps (science).
You haven't given up science like you said. You're a compulsive and hyperbolic liar. No, you didn't tan a hide. It takes years to get the materials together to do so. Do you even know how to make lime? (science)
I find it fascinating when people tell me what I've done in my life.
I'm not going to argue with you about what I have and haven't done. I really can care less if you believe me. I actually have a life outside of a computer and gadgets.
I have two homes on two different continents and have seen much more then people see in a life time.
I would expect some one who doesn't use their brain to say it takes years to get things done that it takes people a week or so to do.
The Christian worldview: Man is capable of giving himself, and his life consists in giving himself to something. He is groping around blindly in a dark world, doomed to die, looking for something to grab on to, to give himself to, so that he might be saved. He grabs at ends by moral acts, finding either God (good acts) or vain shadow & nothing (evil acts). Christ became man, took the lowest state as servant of all, and died to bring light into this darkness--grace to help men do good & live.
@Ben85paintball Don't you lie. You seem to have convinced yourself of this insane proposition so that you may dismiss Christians readily out of hand. I don't pretend to know why people become atheists, but I'd like to think it is for the same reason that people come to believe anything, and that is a desire for truth. I believe in Christianity because it is true, not because it is useful. As you said yourself, it is a lifetime of suffering and struggle here--a terrible coping tool.
@Ben85paintball If you really believed in an eternity of paradise, would you account 60 years of suffering much of a price to win it? Forget whether it exists or not for a moment and remember only that I believe it. Now, putting yourself in my position, if you have a flexible enough mind to do so, you'll see why from my premises I *must* believe that "It profits a man nothing to gain the whole world and lose his soul." I would rather be a pauper in heaven than Bill Gates in hell.
@whanethewhip Slavery was an accepted norm in those times. The OT and NT makes reflection of this. Whoever says "cuz god said so", 1) doesn't see the big picture 2) is definetly not an authority in the matter 3) as misinformed as you are. Reading the whole Bible is like putting together a mosaic jigsaw puzzle... you can't truly appreciate it until you place the last piece. Athesists like yourself neglect to study the Bible and choose to scrutinize it by "cherry picking" verses. Really scholarly
@GhinainanEvNoti belched "Athesists like yourself neglect to study the Bible..." I suppose you think that strawman is scholarly? I have read the Bible, more than once and I see both the trees and the forest... thank you for asking. In fact I was a participant in the recent PEW forum that concluded that atheists such as myself have a better understanding and retain more knowledge about the Bible than Christians. So unless you have evidence for god, your words hold little value to me.
@GhinainanEvNoti Does the fact that it was accepted at the time make it any better? No, it only shows that the bible is now outdated. The perfect religion is a vague adaptable one, but instead Christianity is precise, and not easy to defend or flow with the new generations of ideas. The bible wasn't written by one person, so I doubt that it is one huge mosaic that needs to fits together to form one idea.

Aron51869 2 months ago
In Mark 2:26
Jesus tries to justify the harvesting of grain on the sabbath by referring to a story in which David ate the holy bread "when Abiathar was high priest." But the priest at that time was Ahimelech, not Abiathar, as we can read in 1 Samuel 21:1-6.

If i have to tell u how horrendously they got it all wrong we both need to sit with fat volumes and I hav to take u through one by one. Aron51869 2 months ago
Aron51869 2 months ago

Wow.

icewomen881-since you grew up 'believing' in fairy tales as facts, and facts dont sit well with such myths, you need to to question them and eqvivocate Myth with Science.
Aron51869 2 months ago

So, our years on earth is an INFINITELY SMALL amount of time. Why do you care that people are poking fun of your illogical beliefs?

example - Would you tell a person who invented a bike with square wheels how to improve on his invention? You would explain to him/her how it would be more efficient, and why square wheels are illogical.

So why do you think your so special that you deserve proof, when no one else asks for it

aguteempasil 4 months ago
@aguteempasil How does it condone it, by talking about it because it actually happened?
Yeah, and how do you actually know that its wrong or was wrong for that culture. You only say it's wrong because the society you live in says it's wrong, you may feel differently if you lived in that culture, or maybe even North Korea. You have No Moral gauge other then society to compare it to. In a prison society, its normal to kill someone for no reason at all, does that make it moral?
God Bless You
Ronniecob40 4 months ago
@Ronniecob40 - "by talking about it because it actually happened"
You just outed yourself as either (1) ignorant or (2) dishonest. You think it's all history? Many of these things are God's COMMANDS.
In Deut 20:10-15, God says, while attacking a city, first offer peace. If they accept, enter and take them as slaves. If they refuse, attack. If you win, take all the women and children "as plunder for yourselves."

43alley 4 months ago
@43alley Like I said, these men God told them to kill were bad ppl, doing the same things atheist pretend to be so offeded by , like rape, murder, child sacrafice. God allowed them to spare the women and children, and you find this offensive. I Am sure you would have no problem with a hole town of child molestors being wiped out, or mayne even a whole town of Christians being wiped out, or would you?
Ronniecob40 4 months ago
@Ronniecob40 wrong, in a prison society that wouldnt be normal, that would be survival if it actually came to that. as for the bible, you cant say the verses that condem homosexuality punishable by death aren't there, nor the part about stoning your own daugther to death if she isnt a virgin on her wedding night. jesus taught that the old laws should be upheld and respected. now...as for jesus, what is so moral about saying give no thought for the morrow and follow me?
aguteempasil 4 months ago
@aguteempasil In the OT, there was only 1 way to atone for sin, through a sacrafice, which quite a few did not do, so they were left in their sin, which requires punishment by Gods Holy nature. Jesus dying on the cross invalidated the need for animals to be killed, which means ANYONE, including homosexuals can now be forgiven for there sin through the blood of Jesus. So homosexuality, along with every other sin committed, no longer requires death. We are to lead them to Jesus for forgiveness.
Ronniecob40 4 months ago
@Ronniecob40 look at what you just wrote and reflect on what you believe. God, an all loving father of us all, required punishment and human scarifice??? does that not sound a little bit insane to you? what is the point in creating us in the first place if only to suppress our natural human instincts? what kind of life is that? why does god want us to continuously grovel in worship at his feet? and jesus' very painful death...why? it just doesnt make sense. and i used to be a christian btw...

HuehuehueEsBest 4 months ago
@HuehuehueEsBest YEah, and what might that be? That society allows Christians to build churches and thrive?
I can think for myself, but thinking for myself always gets me in trouble, that why I try to do things the way Jesus tells me to do them. People who want to think for themselves basically are saying they do not like the thought of Someone else being in control of their life, the thought that God could demand your life from you at any moment is what scares most atheists.
God Bless You
Ronniecob40 4 months ago
@Ronniecob40 They were 'bad' because they were sacrificing their kids? why what is Jesus crucification which both agree and stage? God did the same then? God did the same sin for which he killed women and kids and people, and that wsa to absolve Original sin? It takes a bit of considerable messup in the haed to reason like this.
Aron51869 4 months ago
@Aron51869 God is Holy, and CANNOT overlook our sin, just like the law will not over look someone who murders, it requires they be punished. The shedding of blood is the ONLY way, for remission of sin. Jesus dying on the cross eliminated the need for animals to be killed every year, which was only temporary.
Jesus laid down His life, they were allowed to kill Him, and because He was God, He rose again. Thats why Christians speak of His Love, HE came to earth to die, so YOU would not have to.

Sure an Atheist can read the Bible. However, how do you know you are interpreting it right?
sulkow82 7 months ago
@sulkow82 the same way a believer would know THEY are interpreting it right
lashingsofgaut 7 months ago
@lashingsofgaut "the same way the believer would know"
Protestants believe more heavily on the individual's interpretation of Scripture. Catholics OTOH (I'm Catholic) believe that the individual has the right to read the Bible. However, we have 2000 years of Tradition. Tradition can be said to be the "Sacred Discussion" about Scripture. We read Scripture through the lens of Tradition. Which believers are you talking about?
sulkow82 7 months ago
@sulkow82 Same question applies to Christians, given the vast splintering among the landscape (most notably the different denominations). I'm bold enough to say the correct interpretation should follow out of the scientific union of history, literature, several scientific aspects (environment, conditions, behavioral evolution ...) subject to peer review, not incorporating the current interpretation of the different denominations, since it is highly dependent of the current facets of society.
avdmeers 6 months ago
@avdmeers Here is the thing about "peer review." The question then becomes "who are the peers for which their review is considered and how deeply." For Christian thought a classic example is the Eucharist (the ritual involving bread and wine as set up at the Last Supper).
Catholics believe that this is the physical presence of Christ. Protestant beliefs vary from denomination to denomination. Their beliefs vary from being quite close to Catholic belief on over to calling it idol worship.
sulkow82 6 months ago
@avdmeers First, I would like to ask with so much varying beliefs on the one issue, how would you settle the situation?
The reason I use Catholicism as the baseline is for several reasons. The Catholic approach is to take a look at how did the first generations of Christians view this issue. This historical records show the Christians held the same opinion as modern Catholicism.
Yes, there is a great deal of splintering in Christianity today. However, splintered off from where? Catholicism.
sulkow82 6 months ago
@sulkow82 To me it doesn't matter from which the denominations splinter off, what matters is that the interpretation, the issue here, differs. The first choice would be Catholicism, but you can't deny its history is also marked by power abuse and crime. No, I wouldn't let any denomination form the baseline.
Here's why I choose scientific "peer review". It is meant as a convergent process. The theory (read interpretation or underlying motivations that led to the bible) (continued)
avdmeers 6 months ago
@avdmeers Some people would use the "peer review" method for the purpose of distorting the original intent of the text (ie. moral relativism). Such methods can be highjacked by politics and pandering to being politically correct. It has been said "I don't need a guiding Church when everyone else is correct. I need a guiding Church when everyone else is wrong."
I disagree with the idea that just because faith is not based on the five senses, it automatically abandons reason.
sulkow82 6 months ago
@sulkow82 The issue of interpretation of scripture is simple. It can boil down to the question of "why haggle over what scripture says when the meaning was arrived at long ago?" It's like assuming our generation would be the first to arrive at the correct interpretation of the texts.
The only Christians who would want "peer reviews" for interpretation would be those who don't want the original interpretation promoted. Now, how scripture is to be applied, now that does often need discussion.
sulkow82 6 months ago
@sulkow82 ... will be tested using facts and reason. Given the scientific method, it provides the most likely chance that an answer will be found. Now add in a religious instance, and it will try to impose its interpretation, beliefs, warping the work, as it is very likely not to conform to what facts we have anymore. It will lead to either a divergent process or a cyclic process, where claims are falsified and reintroduced, thus leading to no end result.
avdmeers 6 months ago
@avdmeers Here is why I cited (and subscribe to the Catholic methodology). In Catholicism, there is no cyclic process. You could say there is a "peer review" process in some parts of discussion within the Church. However, once a decision is arrived at, there is no cyclic process. When a decision is arrived at on how to interpret a scripture, that stands.
From a secular POV, this is philosophy, not science. So the scientific method of testing does not apply.
sulkow82 6 months ago
@sulkow82 In my opinion many parts can be approached using a scientific view. Domains such as behavioral evolution definitely have something to say as to why parts of the bible have been written down. Many 'observations' in the bible can be explained only by science (plague, red sea, ...).
I don't agree with a never-changing decision, everything changes. The decision to be against sexual prevention and abortion is outdated and does not look at elements such as poverty, health, ...
avdmeers 6 months ago
@avdmeers If chastity outside of marriage was all the rage, then the AIDS epidemic would never have gotten the foothold it did.
Also, YOU don't accept the everlasting decision idea. However, in order to get the Catholic Church to accept your peer review, your opinion is not the issue. A key part of the Catholic understanding is that Tradition (ie. "Sacred Discussion" about scripture) is above the Pope. The Pope can't change Tradition because no person or group on Earth has the authority to.
sulkow82 6 months ago
@sulkow82 Tradition sets down guidelines on how to interpret Scripture (left-brain (LB) activity). Within those boundaries established by LB is the authority of right-brain (RB). When something is within those boundaries, it is the duty and obligation of the LB to defend the RB's chance to do its work.
Also, speaking of interpretation of Scripture. I'm not sure how you would get your "peer review" to work on this level.
sulkow82 6 months ago
@sulkow82 In one way, the great schism of 1054 is about this issue. The issue of primacy of the Pope was the "straw that broke the camels back" for the Eastern Churches to break away from Rome.
I should also say that my left brain right brain explanation is a key reason why I stay in the Catholic Church. I love the boundaries that the Church sets and I love the freedom that the Church gives me within those boundaries.
sulkow82 6 months ago
@sulkow82 As a side-note on the AIDS epidemic, I find it necessary to mention that chastity is an ideal without proper motivation. It is a battle Catholicism cannot win, since the best counter strategy is by understanding human nature, the behavior being dictated by evolutionary principles.
I'm interested by what you refer to as "Tradition", I'll look into that. But it also exposes the main difference between us. When I talk about "peer review", I say so out of the assumption (continued)
avdmeers 6 months ago
@sulkow82 that the bible is written by humans, hence the vast knowledge gained in psychology, ... can help determine why passages were written and underlying ideas. Just like we can say something about e.g. Nietzsche and why he supported his ideas. After all, there is no evidence it is "the word of god".
Your notion of LB-RB activity is yours to keep, but I'd like to point out as an atheist that morality is not a monopoly of the Church, and our motivation can be linked (continued)
avdmeers 6 months ago
@sulkow82 to the underlying ideas that can be hidden in the bible text (altruism, hygiene, ...). I find what the Church has to offer is not evolving with the progressing time. The Tradition would have to be a very general framework to allow Catholicism to answer the problems of today. Moral topics today are different due to better technology (e.g. stem cell research) that benefit our standard of life, but are closely related to ethics. The boundary between good and bad is not that well marked.
avdmeers 6 months ago
@avdmeers Could you give me an example of how you feel the Church should evolve with the times (an issue and what you feel the Church's stand should be on that issue).
I actually like the fact that the Church just doesn't reflect whatever is the "flavor of the month" ethic. For me, there is wisdom in the proverb "stand for something, or you'll fall for anything."
sulkow82 6 months ago
@sulkow82 I assume you follow the teaching that life starts at inception? Scientific research has arguments against this and learns us the ability or development of consciousness forms several weeks/months after inception. This paves the way to abortion, which in my opinion is justified only in the first stages of fetal development and under strict rules (mother health, irresponsible behavior, ...). (continued)
avdmeers 6 months ago
@avdmeers Yes, I do follow the teaching that life starts at conception. I would ask you why the development of consciousness is the criteria for life (concerning the issue of abortion). How many people remember their own births (and yet causing the death of a day old baby will get someone a murder trial)?
The development of consciousness is not the beginning of life. It is a developmental stage of life once begun. Also, this does not offer a clear cut point to look to, conception does.
sulkow82 6 months ago
@sulkow82 Technically a harsh fact, but to associate a fully fledged person to a fetus is in itself a sick behavior which can only be explained to the desire of gene reproduction. The Church however has always remained adamant and disregards the potential bad environment given to the child after birth.
This is not some 'flavor of the month', it's more a 'flavor of billions of years of evolution'. Evolution does not simply change overnight, it provides strong evidence for social behavior.
avdmeers 6 months ago
@avdmeers It is a flavor of the month in that Roe v. Wade was only back in 1974 in the U.S.
However, the abandonment of children was even prominent in the Roman Empire. Unwanted children would be left by the side of the road to die. Christians who found such children alive would take them home and raise them.
As for genes, after fertilization is complete the fetus does have a unique genetic code.
The reason those environments are harsh is because man made them harsh. Circular logic.
sulkow82 6 months ago
@avdmeers BTW: Concerning you comment about "tradition would have be a general framework to allow Catholicism..."
In my person experience talking with people on this issue. Whenever they say that what they really mean is in order to answer the "problems of today" the Church needs to stop having an opinion. Stand for something, or you'll fall for anything.
sulkow82 6 months ago
@sulkow82 Are you saying that in order to "address the problems of today" the Church should simply "rubber stamp whatever society tells it to" and do nothing more?
sulkow82 6 months ago
@sulkow82 I refer to life here in the context of a human being. That has criteria, information (genome) is not enough. The development of the nerve system, formation of the brain are crucial factors here. Once active, the transition from "life" to a human being takes place.
The Tradition disregards these facts, scripture does not contain the information to know this. Instead it upholds an opinion, that at conception you are dealing with a human being. That is not the case. (continued)
avdmeers 6 months ago

Just a brilliant, insightful well-reasoned polemic all around
shieldsff 5 months ago
@sulkow82 , that is not opinion. Your notion of circular logic is not valid. Attachment of a full fledged human persona to a blueprint of an organism is false.
Then you come up with the Church having an opinion, contradicting your stance on Tradition laying out guidelines to interpret scripture in absence of subjectivity. Mind commenting on this?
avdmeers 6 months ago
@avdmeers Sure. It seems like you want the Church to be reduced to rubber stamping what ever society says. As for Tradition and the Church. Tradition is the lens through which we read Scripture. Tradition is above the Pope in that the Pope can't say Tradition "X" which we have held true for hundreds of years is actually wrong. However, Tradition helps guide us through decision making.
sulkow82 6 months ago
@sulkow82 When the Church (or Pope) address a serious matter, the first step is to determine what issues are involved. Relevant Tradition(s) in the Church's history are researched. With all this in mind, a new statement is developed which must complement or develop the previous documents which were referenced. This new document then can be a building block for future statements/ opinions.
Also, the more a specific opinion is presented by theologians, the stronger it gets as a Tradition.
sulkow82 6 months ago
@sulkow82 On a side-note, stating that no person has remembrance of birth is untrue. Though not present on a conscious level, it definitely has impact on a subconscious level. This implies that the brain has stored information regarding the experience of birth, meaning we're dealing with a human being that can feel pain and interpret external stimuli, be it very primitive.
avdmeers 6 months ago
@avdmeers Ok. Then when does this process start? Also, why should that be the standard for when the organism is alive?
sulkow82 6 months ago
@wrightdevin39 care to provide evidence for those claims?
Clavactis 7 months ago
God is real. Atheism is a faith just like any religion or any other belief. The only difference here is God is real and He is alive today and working just like he did in the Bible times.
wrightdevin39 7 months ago

97311177 9 months ago
@97311177 You cant say there IS a God(s). There is no evidence for and against it. So it is 50% chance that there is and 50% that there isnt. But as far as the Judeo- Christian God, it prob doesnt not exist. It sucks that your life is surrounded by drugs, (nothing wrong with sex, except rape or incest), and the rest cigs and beer, those can do real damage. Your free to believe in a god(s), it would be better if it wasnt the psycho christian god tho, just sayin. good luck to ya!
QuestionAll1 8 months ago
@97311177 But it is superstitious crap. Take the bible out of the equation and try to prove your god exists. He only exists in the pages of that book and the minds of the indoctrinated and deluded.
Faith without proof is a cop-out.
You can only believe in god if you believe completely in the bible, because that is the only evidence you have. You cannot pick and choose which pieces of the bible to believe because you are then second guessing and thinking you know best.

@salerio61 I have read biology books before, thank you. Thats another reason why I dont believe in that stuff because its all concocted to disprove God when cannot be disproved and cannot fit into any one particular box because He is bigger and more complex than u could ever imagine.
wrightdevin39 7 months ago
@wrightdevin39 yes of course it is. All of science is a big conspiracy to disprove god. Get back into the dark ages with you and live under the yoke of the church. You don't believe science yet believe in a 3 thousand year old book of goat herders. Fantastic. Remain ignorant while the rest of us progress into the future
salerio61 7 months ago
@salerio61 I am not under the dark ages I live in reality and the reality is God exists and He those who deny Him and word and action will be condemned to hell unless they repent and turn to Him for salvation. No I don't believe science, you know why? Because science is constantly changing and cannot be relied on. Id rather be foolish and ignorant to all of u and be wise in God's eyes than the other way around. God's Word hasn't changed and it never will. Science if foolishness and wrong.
wrightdevin39 7 months ago
@wrightdevin39 "No I don't believe science"
Well get of that computer and get back on your knees. In mean time give up everything science has discovered and go back and live in a cave. You wouldn't last a week without everything science has discovered. Of course you won't because you know damn well praying for everything is going to do nothing.
salerio61 7 months ago
@salerio61
So study alittle more before you go knocking something you seem to know very little about
1HelpingMany 7 months ago
@1HelpingMany So live without science and rely just on god. Go on, do it. You don't have the balls to even attempt it. Unlike brain-dead moronic christians I HAVE studied. You don't like science live without everything it's ever done. You wouldn't last a week either

Somethings are good, some not so good.
And you are aware that some houses were built with brick long before the inudstrial age. You ever seen castles smart guy
1HelpingMany 7 months ago
@salerio61 I am on my knees enough and spiritually also not just physically my whole life is about God and prayer to Him and worship to Him. I don't trust science because it is faulty and cannot be relied on because new scientific discoveries are being made almost everyday that proves older scientific discoveries wrong and obsolete. I can last in anything and without much because God is my provider and He knows what I can take and canno take. Maybe to you prayer doesn't do anything...
wrightdevin39 7 months ago
@salerio61Because u speak of someone and judge someone falsely of whom you don't believe on or in. Prayer means everything, God is real. Do you want proof? I got proof God exists and is real. Last night i was at a gathering at a friend's house and my friend had his arm in a sling and i felt God tell me to go ask the guy in a sling if i could pray for Him and when i went and told him, he told me he felt God spoke to him and say that devin is going to come ask to pray for u, and that was...
wrightdevin39 7 months ago
@salerio61 that was confirmation God specifically told me what to go and do and i obeyed. Make a long story short, the my friend walked out of the house last night carrying his sling in his hand and able to move and lift it with minimal pain as opposed to earlier when he said he could barely lift it because it felt torn or pulled. Now tell me how else that is possible if there is no God or if God isn't a miracle worker? Science cannot heal our bodies and cannot set us free like Jesus can.
wrightdevin39 7 months ago
@salerio61 I believe in God and im not ignorant, only the ignorant person is the one who is wrong and doesn't realize they are wrong. Im not wrong because i follow the only one true God and He is real.

NihilNominis 10 months ago
@Ben85paintball Don't you lie. You seem to have convinced yourself of this insane proposition so that you may dismiss Christians readily out of hand. I don't pretend to know why people become atheists, but I'd like to think it is for the same reason that people come to believe anything, and that is a desire for truth. I believe in Christianity because it is true, not because it is useful. As you said yourself, it is a lifetime of suffering and struggle here--a terrible coping tool.
NihilNominis 10 months ago

GhinainanEvNoti 11 months ago
@GhinainanEvNoti belched "Athesists like yourself neglect to study the Bible..." I suppose you think that strawman is scholarly? I have read the Bible, more than once and I see both the trees and the forest... thank you for asking. In fact I was a participant in the recent PEW forum that concluded that atheists such as myself have a better understanding and retain more knowledge about the Bible than Christians. So unless you have evidence for god, your words hold little value to me.
whanethewhip 11 months ago
@GhinainanEvNoti Does the fact that it was accepted at the time make it any better? No, it only shows that the bible is now outdated. The perfect religion is a vague adaptable one, but instead Christianity is precise, and not easy to defend or flow with the new generations of ideas. The bible wasn't written by one person, so I doubt that it is one huge mosaic that needs to fits together to form one idea.
