  • An entertaining film but not well made. The best of that time was thatthere was only beautiful women!!! Why so soon killed the gorgeous blonde vampire part 1/9? What a waste!!!

  • At 5:32 - best shot of a vampire hunter.

    R.I.P. Ingrid Pitt (1937-2010)

Baron Karnstein meets his fate on the next film, "Twins Of Evil"

  • This movie only prove me right...that women's place is in the kitchen

  • Great film but pretty weak ending... they don't explain whats up with the male vampire-- who looks alot like the Baron-- and the other woman vampire. I don't get why they dont try to save Mircalla when they certainly seemed interested in making sure she feeds. In a way it seems like a vampire conspiracy film--the vampires are like " ok how can we get rid of Mircalla, she's just too dangerous, I know we'll set her up---"

  • some 1 should make a comedy vampire movie about a guy who was just made a vampire, & the 1 who made him a vampire has 2 teach him how 2 seduce ppl, how 2 sneak up on them while they're sleeping, even how 2 get in the house in the first place. & the vampire hunter would be inept, like the stake would slip out of his hand & go flying across the mausoleum when he attempts 2 kill a vampire... such as peter sellars might have played such a role. would be really funny if it was done right.

  • Inspiring!

  • I like how the painting faded at the end. Any aura she held over anything or anyone is lost.

  • Then wat happen to the pale man...he vampire also wat?!?!

  • god that was one beautiful freaky vampire i'mma miss her LOL!

  • It's actually pretty faithful to the Le Fanu story. Carmilla wasn't a lesbian, she was a monster.

  • madeline smith had some bodice ripping rack on her in this movie - british horror always had the hottest girls .

  • did anyone notice ingrid pitt was breathing heavily even after she was stab...and her eyes are moving?

  • Excellent! What obviously started life as a low budget sexploitation film, like most of Hammer's output in the seventies, was elevated to almost 'genre-defining' by the quality of the source, Le Fanu, and the skill of the Golden Globe winning director, Roy Ward Baker. Despite the fact that neither could really act, the pairing of Pitt and Smith really has a dynamic which, for once in 'Hammer Horror', does the source justice.

    Thanks for posting!

  • I saw this movie when I was ten and still after all these years one of the best Vampire films made. They don't make them like this anymore. Ms. Pitt was a goddess and the best tits in movies....

  • its based of a story called "camilla" and it sticks well to it right down to the ending.

  • when the guy chopped off the vampire's head, thought to my self - HOME RUN!!!!

  • The novel says she had male lovers ( one of them a vampire that bited her),so she wasn´t lesbian! Vampires bite anyone, young or old, male or female!

  • I have watched this movie many times and I still think that it is one of the best vampire movies made. The thing that puzzles me though is that man on horse back who appears at various times during the picture.

  • @kdhvernon

I have always thought it's the Count of Karnstein watching over the activities of his daughter.

  • Awesome! I watched the whole movie! I loove Ms Pitt with those juicy tits of hers!

  • Nice Oscar Wilde touch at the end there.

  • Emma looks a lot like Hayley from Paramore haha!

  • Hm. I have to say this movie was a lot better than I expected. I expected simple exploitation fare, but it really pulled off a good solid atmosphere. A pleasant surprise.

  • Dont make me laugh- sadly, the "actresses" of today couldnt fetch coffee for those great GODESSES of the late 60s early 70s-much less "try" to redo their peformances!

  • @lugger2010

Only current actress that could i thnk of that can work if Hammer Films ever revisted vampires is Summer Glau. she has the right look and can act.

  • Just want to say thanks for posting this great clip

  • God bless you Ingrid Pitt. What an actress! Barbara Steele has nothing on you. Rest in peace.

  • @WhiteCamry ...YEs I eally do agree....with great stroy lines, hot actresses like Olivia Wilde...Mehgan Fox, Mila Kunis,,,,and a much better ending.

  • Its always been lyk that, man will save innocent girls to maintain a heterosexual wold. But female vampires practiced centuries of mastering seduction with their killer wardrobes...This must have a remake....Oliva Wilde and Mehgan Fox are my candidates....with alternative ending!

  • I never appreciated women vampires til i saw Vampire Lovers. She redefines seduction with a class..even straight women will give in....A great contribution to the world of Horror FIlms..

  • This ending is tragic and heart-breaking. Mircalla is not evil, and Emma would have obviously been happy if she were taken away. All they needed was each other. But no, the heroes WILL save the day. Poor Mircalla :(

    Rest in peace, Ingrid.

  • RIP*

  • The ending was just like I thought it would, but still great!

  • R.I.P. Ingrid Pitt. Your beauty and fire lives on in immortality.

  • @scohan44 Ingrid Pitt passed away?

When did this happen I didnt know (=^ [

She was one of my favorites.

  • @7DARKHELLS - She passed away on 11/23/10. Funeral is set for 12/15/10.

  • @scohan44 Thank You.

  • To me, it's quite obvious that Carmilla really did love Emma, and the fact that Emma rejects her....ugh...story of my lonely lesbian life.....alas, REVENGE ! I WILL HAVE REVENGE ! haha

  • thanks for the post, I agree with all the praise of the film that I read.

  • huh? I didn't know vampires could teleport. and how come carmilla didn't wake up? doesn't she hear sound while she sleeps?

  • Wow... Just wow... What a thrilling movie experience! Like a wild 90 minute rollercoaster with highs all the way through with a gradual slowing before the end. So strange, that this is one of the best (if not the best) Hammer Horror production since supposedly Hammer was losing its touch in the late 60's.

The slow moving suspense at the end made it seem as if it wasn't going to be the typical good triumph over ev-viil ending and that something would save Carmilla... Still great though!

  • A great film. Thank you very much for posting! Madeleine Smith is a vision!

  • Any fans of this movie ever imagine that the General (whose name we never hear) is the first Van Helsing to start hunting vampires with the Baron as his mentor? It seems to be set earlier in history than the other movies, all the Van Helsings look alike, and would connect almost all the Hammer vampire flicks together, Karnstein and Dracula movies alike.

  • The lovely Ingrid loses her head, but Arthur Daley prays for her soul. That`s entertainment.

  • @TheWhitehall And sweet Emma screams for her while Carmilla does not scream for herself. If that's not love, I don't know what it is! It's like Carmilla welcomed death after being rejected by her love. =(

  • Carmilla should of known she was HEADED for Disaster.

    Sorry couldnt resist.

  • Does anyone remember a vampire film from this era in which a couple of pasty faced zombie/vamps are walking on a treadmill machine that is connected to a rack torture device that is meant to kill the hero and his girlfriend?

  • @grendeljack no but it sounds great

  • Karnstein trilogy! Gotta love it!! Thanks for posting!!

  • That was a really good movie and I enjoyed it immensly, one for the library, THANKS!

  • Polyester and nylon getups, ugly 1970 hairdos, nudity and cheap shmaltz. Very little left of the Sheridan le Fanu's beautiful story. It has some good moments, but for the most part it's a typical 1960-70s camp IMHO.

Thank you very much for uploading it though. I've never seen it before and I am very interested in Hammer's movies, which for the most part I enjoy very much. It was worth watching if only to satisfy my curiosity.

Please post more Hammer movies, if possible, and thanks again.

  • wtf? karnstein castle has a chapel?

  • @dswright71 ,most castles do,the stately home by me has a chapel, its nothing unusual

  • Such a sad ending. Love to rerite this for modern day but with a happy ending

  • Aww..Carmilla and Emma were a cute couple.

  • I imagine the pitch session for this film went something like this:

PRODUCER: Ok kid what's your idea, I haven't got all day.

WRITER: Well, it's about this sexy, lesbian vampire and...

    PRODUCER: SOLD!

  • @Capng123 LMAO Love it !

  • Why do lesbian vampires in films always look like goregeous centrefolds like Ingrid Pitt - and not the fat old boiler-suited ballbreakers they are in real life?

  • @normanby100 Because these movies are made by men and this is what they WANT them to look like. Real life lesbians don't dress to please men. Why would they?

  • @FaerieCrone Its like the song some girls like girls to be girls and some girls like girls to be boys. I am a bisexual female and like girls who are girls, I do find some butch women attractive but, I mostly find the feminine ones who dress feminine, eg lipstick lesbians more attractive. So this movie whilst men will enjoy it also works for girls who like girls to be girls like me!

  • @normanby100 There are many types of lesbians. The feminine ones portrayed in this movie are called lipstick lesbians and yes you are right they are invisible within society, its only the masculine butch lesbians that are visible in modern society, which is strange but true!

  • @iLuvAkeys4ever Lol, lipstick lesbians. First time I heard of that.

  • @normanby100 Probably because not all lesbians are like that in real life?

  • Cushing asking to do the deed at the end must have been for the fans, not that I mind :)

  • Strangely, why these assassins of vampires are try to kill her?

This remember me one thing: Have evil humans!

  • Mircalla in my dreams tonight.

  • What a horrible ending!!!, why should men always play the heroes, saving poor innocent girls from lesbians???

otherwise i love the movie, beautiful =)

  • @SunnyGreenRed

Ya! I agree with you! Booo

The book by JSleFanu is ok especially when you put it in the context of when it was written, the fact he wrote it at all and made their love believable is kind of cool...it ends similarly though less heavy handed ; Laura still loves Carmilla and regrets her death.

  • @SunnyGreenRed Because Dracula was available to die for the 900th time? Just a theory. Poor thing was probably existed from bring revived just to die again at the end.

  • @SunnyGreenRed What's wrong with lesbians, anyway? :p

  • @hypnodance Absolutely nothing...we're really quite harmless, once you get to know us.....and we've broken down all your defenses, lured you into our lair.....sucked you dry....bwahahahahaha

  • @SunnyGreenRed AGREED ! I was totally on Mircalla's side...lol...LESBIAN VAMPIRE PRIDE !! -Kat

  • OH...maybe Emma DID love Carmilla...

    "NO!"

  • @SunnyGreenRed ,

Agreed. This definitely calls for a remake with a much, much better ending.

  • @SunnyGreenRed "What a horrible ending!!!, why should men always play the heroes, saving poor innocent girls from lesbians???"

    Yeah, really. :p

  • absolutely beautiful. they don't make horror films this simple yet brilliant anymore. *sigh* An absolute classic!

  • Thank u so much for puttin up the film!!!

  • Beautifully photographed--super gothic.
