1. Shirley was obviously making that as an excuse because she doesn't want to eat it. It may be because the the food either smell bad or it doesn't look very appetizing.

2. I don't see how they're portraying Abed's father being harsh is racism. They portray Pierce's father as a racist and terrible person, much more worse than Abed's father. Would you say the show is racist against white?

@Porcelanesa Community is truly the best comedy I've ever seen. It just gets better and better. It's incredibly funny, unique and has a great cast. The main cast are like a family and can have very heart warming moments without being cheesy. It's definitely not your normal sitcom. It's crazy and fun, and weird. There's no laugh track (which is something I've always hated in sitcoms), and it's overall an intelligent and breath of fresh air compared to other shows on tv. I highly suggest it.

@Porcelanesa Definitely, definitely watch. As a fellow Fillion fan, also alliteration affiliate, I recommend this show whole-heartedly. It only gets better and better as time goes on. It has artistic experimental episodes, it has those heart-warming ones (actual ones, not the cliche'd, done to death kind) and all the while, make you laugh till your sides hurt.

And, if all else fails, just trust Cap'n tight pants. He hasn't failed me yet.
