@dressedosprey If you're referring to the lack of explanation about the list type; sorry. My PC is hopeless and I can't do recordings with a good enough quality to upload. If you need help with understanding something, try asking for help in the Builder's Brewery group (inworld). Basically lists can hold any other type of info except list type info, and are accessed by index (zero to length-minus-one). string value = llList2String(name, index); etc.
awwww, man, i was inhaling this videos, and taking notes (i know, i'm a dork), i've taken in so much in such little time, i thin i finally learned how to properly study and take notes, XD, bummer uur unable to finish or continue atm, :(, best of luck to you bud, and please hurry economy, D:
@Adrien13Sanctioned Thanks a lot. I'll either get these tutorials finished one day or die trying. The truth is that my cash flow is getting worse, not better. I'm not gonna give up though.
@Adrien13Sanctioned Aww thanks Adrien. Don't worry, I won't be doing anything financially dumb. As an ex bankrupt, I know very well the pitfalls of over expenditure. Even without these tutorials to finish I would "need" to upgrade anyway. It's just a matter of "when" rather than "if". You're very thoughtful. Thank you.
@MegaSnoodle TY. Once you understand something better than the SL Wiki explains consider logging in there and updating the page to explain it better. Every resident of SL is (unless banned) able to edit the Wiki so like the grid it is created by the residents.
To all who posted comments that I only just found and approved, so sorry. I had no idea they were there. In general response to all as a group: You're welcome and I hope to get back to recording as soon as possible. It's very frustrating that it's just money getting in the way. Douglas Adams (Hitch-hikers guide...) pointed out how odd it was that money caused so many problems while money itself had none. Too few characters to properly quote!
Continuing lack of money is stopping me from replacing my PC. I will get back to these tutorials immediately that I can. I can only guess how long it will be so I won't make any statement but that I hope to get something sorted out over the winter.
Very helpful!! I came here knowing some and doing some but not really getting many things, and with little help from google. One of my biggest questions is what the hell integers are actually for, and now I can understand and use them to my scripting advantage. I am very pleased with these videos and cannot wait to see more. As an aspiring programmer, I recommend this to anyone who is just starting or needs to freshen up on their LSL!
@iRant4u I know exactly what you mean. I had never used the word "integer" before learning LSL and to this day still pronounce it "wrong" (with a g for girl instead of a g for gerbil). I don't mind though. The pronunciation is mostly in my internal dialog and I know what I mean. Or at least I think I do O.o
@FredGandt Haha that is kinda funny :) I pronounce a lot of things wrong that are like... I forget what they are called xD like CIA or FBI (obviously I know those) but with a new one, I might say it like it sounds (ex: "key-uh" for CIA) or I might actually say the letters themselves. Its not about how you say it thought its how you use it :P and I love programming and what im learning, its fun to me and its a career path haha
@iRant4u Mhmm. The career path bit is too true. Took me long enough to find one but I must say I rather like it. Maybe you could end up working for Key-uh code breaking or something ;-)
@FredGandt XDDDDD This guy came to my high school saying they work with key-uh I think with security and against terrorists and stuff :D not really what im into buy I think somethin like that MIGHT pay the bills xD
@iRant4u Urgh bills. Don't remind me. If Key-uh or Fibby aren't really your deal you could try freelance. Check out elance.com Get a few languages under your belt and you can earn well doing little jobs here and there and still have time to develop your own stuff. The competition is strong there but the rewards can be high.
Hi Fred. Thank you for the tutorials. I have been in SL for 5 years now, and after watching through your videos, I understand even more about scripting. I'm sure I can speak for us all when I say we are looking forward to viewing more of your tutorials.
@AndyDeBrad I'm looking forward to it too. Consider this: When I get around to posting the next videos in the series I will be able to do it because I finally have a new PC that actually works properly. Of all the people who want this, I think I may want it most! ;-)
loved the tutorials, it has helped me alot, not to seem rude but it has been 5 months since this video has been posted, and i was wondering if you were considering on finishing or if you were just going to leave it as is. again not to seam rude i just kinda like the way you explain lsl and would like you to finish, thank you
@LILOEVERYTHING As mentioned more times than I care to say, I will finish the series as soon as I get this PC either updated or replaced. It is not something I can hurry. I am at the mercy of the global economy.
great video tutorials they have helped me alot. i hope you get your computer fixed soon and finish these tutorials. i have a quick question, is it possible to write a script in such a way that you have to touch objects in a specific order to get a note card. kind of like a puzzle. here is an example of what i am looking for, if someone touches a cube the cube tells them to touch a sphere the sphere would then give them a note card, but if the sphere were to be touched first nothing happens.
@LILOEVERYTHING I realise this may be too late as a useful response but yes that is possible. Basically you need a set of conditions e.g. if(sphere_clicked){cube_clicked=1;DoStuff();} depending on the construction of the object that allowed that each step will only be registered successfully if the last was. Since it has been 10 months since you asked I won't go on about it. If you still need to know I suggest asking for help in The Builders Brewery group. There are several smart scriptors there
Can't wait till you get back to making / finishing these tutorials. I started off knowing nothing about LSL , by this video (12) I have an understanding now and have scripted many different items..I thank you for these videos, they are very well done!!
@raven4hm1 As long as I get my PC fixed there is a chance of me finishing the series. The only thing is, I am really not happy with the attitude LL have toward the residents. 3 year old bugs and requests sit dormant while a nod and a wink from one Linden to another and gears start to turn. If they don't start listening to the residents soon, all that was built will start to decay. People all over the grid are getting tired of the poor decisions LL make. "Their world - No imagination!"
@raven4hm1 Glad I helped though. I will probably get these finished if for no other reason than I don't like to 1/2 do anything and sure don't like letting people down.
Sorry for the long delay in carrying the tutorials on. I'll be making the rest as soon as I get my PC fixed. Am hardly able to login world at the minute and the expense of getting fixed is high. Might be around 8 weeks before I can get back to these. Sorry.
Waiting to see more of your tutorial videos. These videos put a lot into perspective. I would suggest that you go from object creation all the way to lsl code.
GRRRR!!!! i had a huge stack of notes going. your tutorials are great. now i have an empty "list" type of information to identify out of the 7 lol...
