  • Ugh, the horns are too camp!

  • Awesome voice, terrible production.

  • Only 16 years old, wow!

  • great song. kind of reminds me of a James Bond movie song.

  • Me too. Funny thing is Essra did not originally want me to put this beauty up but I perservered! Thank you for commenting.

  • Another cool song.. Love it... thanks for the upload.

  • Great song! Essra has such a wonderful voice! Love it!

    Excellent video.

Love her talking / singing way of emphasizing things. Really great.

  • I so hear this song in a movie. Also, how 'bout that beehive - gotta love it...lol Thank you for your kind words.

  • Very cool tune!

  • This song is a shadow of Janis Ian's 'Society''s Child'...

  • BTW...Essra said Janis used to ask her if it was ok to write her lyrics down down which she of course said yes.

  • WOW! Never thought I'd hear this one. I'd read about it, but thought that it must be lost to the world........silly me. ESSRA I LOVE YOU!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Get in line, my friend!

Thank you, thank you, thank you.

  • Very informative info mate and a very well structured song. Reminds me of a Phil Spector- Beach Boys sound.

  • Spoken like a true, talented musician!

  • Love It

  • How can you not, right?

    Thanks.

  • One more thing... this song sounds very James Bond-ish. Picture this tune (a little more produced) with the James Bond titles running along with it... perfect!

  • Wow... this is awesome!

    Thanks for posting this Frank!

  • It's a beauty alright...

  • Wow! Thanks for sharing Essra with me.

  • Very edgy vocals that make her sound older than 16. I love it!

  • I agree. She was ahead of her time, wasn't she?

    5 stars for sure.

  • She's been ahead of her time for decades now.

    Thanks for the post.

  • First time I've heard this. I was 12 y.o. when it was released, but I guess it didn't get much play? Sounds very much of the era, and from reading her bio, she has written some great hits. Interesting. Thanks for sharing!

  • she is amazing. I saw her perform in Nashville, and she was golden

  • Very nice.

Voice reminds me a little of Grace Slick (Jefferson Airplane).

    Excellent stuff:

  • Wow, never heard her before but it's really great stuff. Thanks for sharing!

  • In Essra's case, it's nice to share.

  • Outstanding! Vocally it's a dream!

  • ~appreciate the share... nice,

    x:(D flowerstoyou

  • ~Thank you, this is hauntingly intriguing... Reminds me of the Goldfinger days x:(D

  • I agree.

  • i would say somewhere between phil spector and the residents, a powerful voice and a warm vibe :)))

  • totally out there no more to be said

  • totally groovy

  • I like that trumpet back there!! Reminds me of "A Man Called Brian"

  • needs a yideo/less brass

  • Remind me of the song "TERRY"

  • Who sings "Terry?" I don't know it.

  • I have to admit my first thought was of a bond film(which is not meant to be disparageing). Very cool!!!

  • It's funny - when it first began, I immediately thought "Bond-ish" as in James. :) Then it continued and I thought "Shagri-Las" or more accurately, "My Boyfriend's Back" ... (was that the Shangri-Las?) as wee tad before my time.

In any case, this was EXCELLENT to hear and I can't hardly wait to look around more of your channel.

Thank you so much for all your info. Loved this.

  • Thank you for sharing this!

Her style almost reminds me of the Shang-Gri-Las. Love it. ♥♥

  • She actually wrote a song called "I'll Never Learn" that the Shangri-Las recorded, so there you go!

  • Very cool...It sounds like it was recording in the 60's but it's hard to tell because of all the retro stuff going on now...

    When was this recorded?

  • great cool stuff..very James Bond vibes by the way...love it...thanks for posting Frank.

  • nice song, like the bass and horns.

  • Wow fantastic voice! great song. thanks for the heads up.

  • That is amazing, I never heard of her before. I just checked her out on google and I cannot understand why I never heard of her before. Thankyou so much to posting :-)

  • This is great; the song is amazing! I enojyed watching the video and listening to this song! Thanks for the post Frank!

  • You are very welcome (& wise). I agree.

  • Interesting indeed! Reminds me of 15-year-old Janis Ian. Is Jamie Carter her real name? I can't imagine anyone with a name as great as Essra Mohawk changing it to anything, but I can imagine the opposite. Somehow "Mohawk" fits her, that strong agressive voice.

  • Essra & Janis are actually friends so that's sweet.

She was born Sandy Hurvitz in Philly - hence album "Sandy's ALbum is Here at Last" but married Frazier Mohawk who put together Buffalo Springfield.

  • Hey F,

a la early James Bond screen orchestration + Leader of the Pack feel. This was before she met up with the likes of Frank Zappa et al!

    Interesting. Thanks.

  • Hip tune. Jamie (Essra) has a great and unique voice. Very sultry voice and song. I enjoy it.

  • Sultry indeed!

  • great frank!
