Krantz Productions was also resposible for SPider-Man, The Hulk, The Mighty Thor, etc. Bernard Cowan's Vidcraft also produced The Rankin-Bass 'New Adventures of Pinocchio' and 'Tales Of The Wizarcd Of Oz' series. 'Cowan was also the voiceover for the 'Wayne & Shuster' specials for CBC.
I used to watch this on CKND in winnipeg. I makes me think of a winter's Saturday before the sun even came up, watching cartoons, with this in between. Great memories!
Yep brings me back as well as a child of the 70's. Rocket Robin Hood, The Uncle Bobby Show with Bimbo the Birthday Clown, Max the 2000 year old Mouse.
My kids don't know how good they have it for kids shows. Saturday mornings, we'd get the original Spiderman, Rocket Robin Hood with Max the 2000 year old mouse and that was about it. Then it was Abbott and Costello or Henry Aldridge or the Three Stooges movie starting around 9 or 10 am on Saturday morning.
@sittlerfan70 You must be in Ontario. Here in BC, we got the Bellingham and Seattle stations, so we got to see all the old Warners and Fleischer cartoons and the Woody and Lantz half-hour shows.
Bernard Cowan is a great narrator.
The theme music is by Phil Green, Emil Cadkin and Bill Loose. It probably came from the Capitol library like their other stuff.
I didn't realize intil just now that it's teh same voice that did the voice-over for Rocket Robin Hood. Was just watching some rocket robin hood on youtube a few minutes ago ... I haven't watched either in probably 25 years ...
Oh wow ... another hideous Canadian TV creation lives on in YouTube! I've searched for this over the years ... i hated it as a child (but still saw it 10,000 times) ... and i can safely say after watching 45 seconds of it, it is still just as crappy now as it was back then..
yeesh, you don't sound very postitive on it. Never thought I'd see the words "Crappy" and "thanks" in the same sentence ;) ... I remember watching it as a kid too and just sorta getting through it. It was a cartooon, so you watched it, more out of habit I think ... Odd to think it had so much American history and yet it was a Canadian production. pretty obvious whom their market was.
I love Max! Esas caricaturas me ayudaron a conocer mucho sobre la historia de USA siendo apenas un niño de 8 años. Buena falta que le hace a los niños de hoy.
I remember watching this as a kid in the late 70's and early 80's! They used to air it on CJOH-TV in Canada around noon, following other animated shows (e.g. Spiderman, Rocket Robin Hood).
Funny, I used to find Max extremely boring as a kid and walked away from the TV shortly after the opening credits. It came off as a very dry and dull history lesson, and the occasional brief Max the Mouse clips or narrator's voice (same one from Rocket Robin Hood!) didn't save it.
I remember watching Max on CJOH-TV in the mid and late '70's. I actually contacted CJOH a couple of years ago to see if it was possible to buy a DVD of the episodes. I had a brief exchange with the PA of the former Director of CJOH who was surprised anyone would remember Max. He said Max was a cheap Canadian animation that "filled in" the space where, today, commercials would appear. He ticked all the boxes and it was decided Max would appear at 12:25pm. Then I had to return to school!
Wow, memories! I recall they were shown as fillers on CFCF-12 Montreal in the 70s. I hated those as a kid because the cartoons didn't deliver the action it "promised" in the flashy opening titles, and I felt it was false advertizing. I was a weird kid! :P
Thanks for uploading! Please find Prof Kitzel too!
I remember this series as a kid, it was shown in the UK circa 1975-76, also on Sunday mornings in 1986 (in the North West region of England anyway)! Boy, this brings back some memories!
Yes!! I've been searching for years for even a mention of this programme on the web! Please also post "The Wonderful World of Professor Kitzel" if possible, these shows nurtured my young interest in history (and television!)
Does anyone remember another animated short that usually appeared after Max that used marionettes against a black screen? I think it may have been called Fantastique but... not sure. : (
The Wonderful Stories of Professor Kitzel was a series of 4-5 minute cartoons about an elderly animated character who traveled through time visiting important historical events. Narrated by Paul Soles. Produced and directed from 1971-1972 by Shamus Culhane for M.G. Animation. I'll try to get an episode posted soon.
I wonder if you have another American History Educational short series produced in Canada and aired in the USA during the mid 1970's Bicentennial era called "Spirit of '76" that you can upload on YouTube.

I remember Max was always tackedon to the end of Rocket Robin Hood to fill out the half hour. Was starting to doubt that anyone remembered it.

Interesting that these old cartoons used still drawings and moving close ups much like Ken Burns used in his historical documentaries.

I love these. Watched them as a kid. There were quite a few of these made. Shamus Culhane later did Rocket Robin Hood.

Funny as well as educational. Those voice actors were Rankin Bass regulars already. The title was obviously borrowed from Mel Brooks's character.

Great stuff! Thanks, I hadn't seen this one for decades!
Any luck that you might have a copy of that similar show, "The Wonderful World of Professor Kitzel"?
They should not only bring these shows back, but make them again so they could have up-to-date topical episodes!
Thanks again!
