from what research I've done in factory form the .308 is slightly hotter than 7.62 nato. The trouble is nato used CUP pressures, while .308 uses PSI. But when reloading since the 7.62 nato brass is slightly thicker the same load for 308 can generate more pressure due to the smaller volume. Now there is a range, so you can hit middle of the road and have one load work for both cases. Good video and and lot faster than my set-up.
@tracycolorado Once they have been fired out of a 308 and reloaded they are almost identicle. A NATO round may be to hot for a civilion riflle there lies the problem. About one third of those cases were 762 by 51. I can tell when each one goes thru the press they are thicke cases and much harder to resise. A great source for this debate can be found on wiklepedia. I hope this helps.
.308 runs hotter than 7.62X51 I believe. With a modern civilian rifle either should fire fine, however if you have a milsurp rifle, be careful about firing the .308, better stick to NATO.
This is a somewhat confusing subject as the .308/7.62 situation is the opposite of the .223/5.56 situation in which the military 5.56 load actually runs hotter than the civilian cartridge (.223).
We are doing that video this friday or perhaps sunday. It is hard to find time when we both are off work at the same time. We will shoot the final assembally video and then do a over all on cost ETC.
@OBXSOLWIND The M1a manual says you sould shoot the NATO round for slam fire perposes. Do you only fire Nato Rounds or do you fire .308 and have you had any problems? Can you buy Nato Primers If thats the case? Love your videos by the way, very helpful.
Can u tell me where you got that press and for about how much

That's a lot of ammo in one sitting! I use a single stage press and limit myself to 100 rounds a night. A very nice Dillon press indeed.
