McGuigan was a brilliant fighter, absolutely relentless. His opponents just could not keep up with his workrate. He retired too early on the back of a loss due to a cut. I feel that had he kept going he would have regained his title. Thanks for posting this video it brought back great memories.

Barry was outworked by an inferior fighter in McDonnell in his last fight and that says a lot. In later years he stated that after the loss to Steve Cruz, his heart was no longer in it.

I was ringside for the McDonnell fight and he was not outworked. Barry was frustrated by a horrendous cut and McDonnel was bottling it and basically the cut was too bad to allow it to go on. Barry was a country mile better than Jim McDonnell. Jim's a nice guy by the way but he was the most relived fighter on the planet that night.
