  • What a tragedy they have done to her! this is how they should be seen--without streamlining--I have no doubt that if she had a chance at Mallards route she might even yet raise the speed record----without a failed inside big-end

  • And the royal train was kept at Wolverton works just up the road a bit - thats all gone now too - progress.....

  • the Very last Engine of any sort to leave the Bletchley Railway sevicing unit when it was closed down after 100 years of engine servicing. She pulled in for water on her way to London to pull a special. I managed to get onto the footplate for a good look around .

When she left the occasion was marked with Fog warning detonators on the line...quite sad really.

  • This is one class of locos that certainly holds the right name Coronation Princess. That loco is no less beautiful then a princess. I love that LMS Crimson colour as well. Its lovely

    Great Video

  • @whitewingsrich If I ever set up a G scale layout, the live steam Aster Duchess of Sutherland and the Ducthess of Hamilton will be running expresses on it. No diesels, just steam, except for no more than five diesels in the paint schemes i see as attractive. Give the people a chance to see that steam CAN outperform a diesel regardless of the extra work involved.

  • I just love the stanier locos they always look so strong and yet still beatiful

  • One of Stanier's Masterpieces ! I certainly do not like how so many English stations have been modernized, I mean defaced in recent years. It makes seeing the ones spared all that more enjoyable to the eye ! Nice video and thanks for sharing it.

  • @KateFan Aged 77 I still have Duchess of Sutherland courtesy of Hornby

and never tire of running her on my layout!!!

  • Damn what a beautiful loco. They sure don't make 'em like they used to.

  • I used to have model train of the Duchess of Sutherland as a child it was my favourite loco, so nice to see it for real.

  • Is Terence still alive? - Was a great artist, no doubt brought to the homes of Millions through his paintings on the Hornby Catalogues and thereafter in his books of Train Paintings. A wonderful artist.

  • I get to see that loco every weekend at the Midland railway centre

  • Very lucky to see Royalty all the time :)

  • @SodorProductions Never see Royalty I do work on the loco its just been painted LMS black but its not been officialy unvailed yet. Its kept and the Midland railway centre in the Princess royal locomotive trusts west shed with the Margeret rose and other engines its all in Derbyshire

  • I was talking about the loco, she has pulled royal tains before right? Thats Royalty enough for me, lol

  • lovely vid m8 ,,thanks 5*s etc

  • Nice Vid 5*

  • So the next Cuneo centennial will be in 2107 then?

  • I really like the long shot at the end accelerating away with that distinctive and perfect exhaust beat.

  • I've got the Hornby model of her.

  • in the streamlined casing because she's having streamlined casing put back on her at the minute unfortunatley the price of the metal they need to complete the job is too high in china so hopefully they can find it cheaper somewhere else

  • no i've got the 2002 jubile version

  • warboss132, WTF?!?!

I personally work on 6233 and can tell you that she is most definately NOT being streamlined and she never has been streamlined, she was built in the batch of 5 (6230 - 6234) unstreamlined Princess Coronations in 1938. The one being streamlined is the National Railway Museum's 6229 'Duchess of Hamilton'.

  • If you look at the running plate of 6233 it's continuous and not cut away at the front ahead of the cylinders, unlike the streamlined versions that were. If you see a video or picture of the Duchess of Hamilton (the engine that is currently being re-streamlined) after her original streamlined casing had been taken off you will see the gap in the running plate at the front.

  • right cheers for the info is hamilton still due to be completed next month or has it been delayed?

  • I don't know. You could enquire with the National Railway Museum in York. Their You Tube handle is NatRailwayMuseum. It will be great to see DoH streamlined again.

  • Lovely shot at the end there. That 455 moved out of the way just in time, didn't it? :P

  • oooo how strange my middle names sutherland :S

    hmm lol

she is a gorgoeus engine :)
