I work with severely mentally and physically disabled children whose parents are first cousins. They are muslims. It is heartbreaking to see these poor little children suffer because of this kind of inbreeding.

I could not understand why some Pakistani people still force their kids to marry their first cousins. I do not see why this tradition needs to be kept after there are proof that babies will have problems if their parents are first cousins.
Some Pakistani Family forces their son & daughter to marry their first cousin, if they dont marry them, they will kick them out of the family house. Even though there is no love between the couples, the family still force them to get marry. This happen to my bf 's family too, and the only thing he can is to remain single now. A Pakistani family lived next door to my father in law, the were 1st cousins and had 6 children, all the children had terrible medical problems, blindness, deafness, skelital, mental health problems ect, they were always at the hospital. Hi Dan, Sadly, I do not own or play a banjo - do you? I do not think muslims - or any other community - has a monopoly on incest or hypocrisy. That was my original point; there are various comments on this page that reflect this assumption. Many of them are plain silly and small minded, not to mention vulgar, so I will not bother engaging with them. However, I did enjoy the knee-jerk reaction to the mention of 'racism'. It *is* possible to be critical without being violent or prejudiced...

How has this become an excuse for hateful racism. Cousin marriage is benighted for sure, but so is prejudice against people because of their religion or race. There are communities all over the world who do weird and destructive stuff. Your hate will not make the world a better place.

I could not understand why some Pakistani people still force their kids to marry their first cousins. I do not see why this tradition needs to be kept after there are proof that babies will have problems if their parents are first cousins.

Some Pakistani Family forces their son & daughter to marry their first cousin, if they dont marry them, they will kick them out of the family house. Even though there is no love between the couples, the family still force them to get marry. This happen to my bf 's family too, and the only thing he can is to remain single now. Everytime he told me it is difficult to bring me home cos i m not his first cousin. I'd feel very sad.

A Pakistani family lived next door to my father in law, the were 1st cousins and had 6 children, all the children had terrible medical problems, blindness, deafness, skelital, mental health problems ect, they were always at the hospital. Now 2 of the girls are grown up and married to 1st cousins, all the children who have survived suffer the same problems, untill the Imans change their views children will continue to suffer and the cost to the health service will rocket.

This is no excuse, I know cousins who have married and eveything has worked out ok, in rural area's you have a lot of interbreeding you have no choice, I am not talking about sisters and brothers, but it would go first cousins. I know it is a bit weird, but it happens a lot, and not just with asian people. You live in the sticks and see how desperate things can get. You meat no other people.

This is a terrible tragedy that could b avoided if the government made it unlawful 4 1st cousins 2 marry now that we know the awful consequences it brings on many of the offspring. But unless Muslim countries also make this practice unlawful then what's 2stop 1st cousins from marrying outside of the UK.? The U.K. government needs 2 communicate with the governments of countries that allow this 2 happen + state that ppl marrying outside the U.K. in this manner will not b considered lawful marriage

@BarryRRex No its not ok, the Quran says that sisters, mothers, brothers daughters etc are off limits, but it doesn't say anything about cousins one way or the other. How they got the idea that marrying their cousins would be a good thing is beyond me, primitive mentality basically. They are incompatble with us they need to evolve.

@lollywoodchannel I'm an ex-muslim. religion is trash. nearly half of all the marriages in my native country (afghanistan) is between first cousins. & many who don't...marry a second cousin or other close relative. virtually all muslim countries inbreed like this. fuck islam & all other religions. i know what happens when this bullshit goes on first hand.

@lollywoodchannel Um.. to some people theres a big difference between cousin and sister. You and your sister grow up together and share certain traits with eachother and your other family members. My cousin doesnt share any similar traits; she's a different race than me. And my cousin is just someone i just met in college. Besides, a sister shares 50% blood and cousin shares 12.5%. Cousins should'nt marry every generation because risks increase, but its NOT like marrying a sibling.
