It was one of the few times in Stanley Cup history that the third and fourth place teams played in the Finals.
Chicago finished third and upset the defending champions, the Canadiens, in an opening six game series winning the last two games by an identical 3-0 score.
The Habs were going for a record sixth straight Cup.
Detroit beat Toronto in five games.
The most exciting game the Hawks actually played was game three against the Habs.
With the series tied 1-1, they won 2-1 in triple O'T.
1. Nice to see boards without a lot of junky advertising.
2. That fourth Chicago goal was not an empty net goal despite what the announcer says.
3. Thanks Bobby Hull for being a really nice guy to a group of 12 year olds at the Met Sports Center in Bloomington MN in 1968. We still remember how great you were about autographs; we toast you every time we get together.

CHICAGO BLACKHAWKS 2010 STANLEY CUP CHAMPIONS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!WE ARE THE CHAMPIONS, WE ARE THE CHAMPIONS, NO TIME FOR LOSERS CUZ WE ARE THE CHAMPIONS
@blazingudd22 Us Ranger fans are very Happy for ALL OF YOU! We had a 54 year drought and had to endure "1940" chants from the Icelander fans. I went to the Ranger Parade on June 17,1994 and saw the cup. A thrill of a lifetime! Enjoy it ! you will have a great summer!
I know, now I have it!!! So happy for this. Win or lose, I'll forever be committed to the indian. I waited for this day for the longes time, but it's finally here and now I could tell my offspring.
Congratulations to the Blackhawks and their fans, they had to put up with so much crap under the ownership of Bill Wirtz who DESTROYED this franchise for decades.
As an Islander fan I am envious of course, but as a suffering Isles fan who is putting up with similar crap on the Island, I can understand what this means to the Blackhawks fans.
Congratulations Chicago on the 2010 Cup. Even a Red Wings Fan can appreciate this. At least you didn't eliminate us this time. Great event for the city of Chicago. A city I love with teams I hate.

detroit is a legendary team. but hawks are good. hell i thought pitsburg was going to win the cup again. the blackhawks just won the cup about 10 minutes ago lol
One period to go. Go Hawks!!!! I've been a fan since birth (1970). Growing up in Toledo, Ohio, there was no way I was going to be a Red Wings fan. Ha! Love those Blackhawks.
So im from Chicago, so obviously a Blackhawks....srry philly, you just suck. Anyway, i just noticed this now watching this video. When the Hawks win tonight, they will have, in a way, repeated the 61' finals which by that i mean they will have won it in 6 games on an away game.
And, when the Hawks win the Cup, Lloyd Petit will be smokin' some big Cuban cigars with Harry, Vince, Irv and Jack, and Pat Foley and John Wiedeman will both scream "Hawks win the Stanley Cup!" on the radio.
@dd2ufah Les Habitant,I pray for dis year me. I won dem to go to gagnez les Coupe de Stanley LNH. I also won to see me in les finale de Habitant an les Hawk. It wod be jusy like old day. Magnifique. Now GO HAWK !!!

Great stuff! How cool would it be that, nearly 50 years after their last Cup, the current Blackhawks could pull it off. Would be even more special if it would be an Original Six final between the Hawks and Habs, just like that memorable seven-game thriller in '71.
@titansnascarfan11 lol sad nashville fan its alright always next year! by the way the conference finals start this sunday if you wana watch teams that suck
I'm not sad I still have my 2nd favorite team, the flyers, in the playoffs still. Yeah next year the preds will get good we are getting geoffrion, hopefully radulov back, and for maybe a few games if he signs a contract ryan ellis for a few games. Look at all of the free agents the blackhawks have soon coming up this offseason.
Hawks deserve the cup after 50 seasons. Keep the cup in the USA.. Been our's since 1994. The Canadians can have their gold medals... we'll keep the cup in the USA!
the NHL should really collect the negatives of any old hockey films remaining and digitally restore them to HD. Perhaps we'd see more of these clips used in hockey broadcast's intermissions if they were available in pristine quality to the TV networks.
@bcrt2000 NHL network showed a B&W Kinescope of the last orig . 6 game today: Game 6 of 1967 Finals Leafs/Habs.. last Leafs Cup. They showed the entire game.
@MWTCC The NHL returned to this type of format in 2003/2004.
Now the reason the change was made in 70/71 was because it was found that white clothing got very dirty during travel and it was a problem than modern cleaning has solved!
I saw Bobby Hull's last game in a Hawk Uniform ..Game 4 of the sermi finals in 1972 @ MSG when the Rangers swept the Hawks 4 straight. The Hawks choked in 1971.. the had the Habs 3-2, lost game 6 and blew a 2-1 lead in game 7.
Tha's why they fired the GM? One of these years the Sharks are gonna get into the finals.. and the Ducks are still good . the clock is ticking.. 2015 will tie the record--54 years.
My dad remembers this so well and talks about it often; he was in catholic school...south side chicago and the nuns let the class listen to the game it was during the day.
the goalies don't have helmets?! For NHL fans, you know how many shots end up bouncing off of goalie's facemasks, it would suck to be a goalie in the 60's.
get real, you know its not about attendance numbers, that only reflects stadium capacity. its about consecutive sellouts. Hawks had alot of sellouts this year, but its the same 21 thou or whatever. 21 thousand hockey fans in a city of millions. Do like Toronto and sell out every game for 50 years straight then ill give Chicago its due. Its a shame, they are a good team, they deserve more attention from the home town.
Well think about it, Whats in Toronto. Nothing really. Its canada, they live on Hockey cause its basically the only sport they are good at. Chicago has Baseball, basketball, soccer, football, minor leagues, college sports, and so much more. Of course hockey isn't going to be as big. As far as Capacity goes, the arena sizes aren't really that different from each other. So in the long run it doesn't make as much of a difference.
Toronto doesnt need a larger arena, they are by far the most valuable franchise in the NHL , with the highest yearly revenue. Chicago doesnt even come close.according to forbes Toronto ranks #1 at 450 million value and 160 yearly revenue. Chicago comes in at #14 on the list at 205 million, with a yearly revenue of 79 million, less than half of Toronto. Im from Chicago, but unlike you, i am not a fanboy. Toronto could buy the hawks with pocket change. lets be real.
Did you read my comment at all. I'm not talking about revenue, in fact I'm confused of where revenue even came into play here. I'm talking about attendences. If to say Toronto sells out so many games, maybe they should add more seats. I don't have a problem with you jumping into a conversation, but I suggest you go through the previous conversation. I think you may have misread it.
Also Chicago had a average record of 22,247 where toronto had 19,312. You can use the excuse of stadium capacity, but then I can use the excuse back that the only reason toronto sells out is cause they have a smaller arena. If we had the same size arena we would sell out every game as well.
you must be kidding? Toronto has 20 thousand a game with another 5 million crying because they cant get tickets (which are the most expensive in the league by the way). chicago has the same 20 thousand every game, and bf this season we were lucky to get 15 thou a game. Toronto has a MLB, NBA, CFL, MLS and a shitload of junior teams, so its not like the Leafs are the only game in town, so the Chicago has alot of sports team excuse holds no water. Chicago in hockey terms compares to the WashCaps
This comment makes no sense. Do you go out side and count the 5 million people crying they can't get a ticket, (Which by the way money again means nothing.) and do you happen to know the 20 thousand that go to the Hawks game, you must if you know they are the same people. Now I must ask about the MLB and NBA teams (Only other high level sports you have) How often do tickets sell for that. Nether of those teams are even popular. Also...
Yeah Chicago has a lot more big name teams. The Bulls, Bears, Cubs, Sox, Northwestern, Depaul, and the AHL just out side the city for the hawks and another AHL in the city (which is not really popular). Chicago is defently more of a sports city than Toronto, so yes my excuse still holds true.
And i suppose I forgot the fire in there as well. However again I suggest you don't come in picking a fight and read why I commented what I commented. It was in response to a joke saying Chicago has only 3 fans yet we had the highest average number of fans in the NHL this season.
chicago doesnt even compare to Toronto in terms of a sports town. Toronto has 14 cups, Chicago has what?? 3 or 4?. Chicago has 2 sucky baseball teams. when has any of them even won a WORLD SERIES? the blue jays had the highest attendace in the 90's and WON 2 world series in its first 15 yrs as a franchise. raptors suck but are a young franchise. Toronto has teams in every hockey league that matters. NHL,AHL and OHL. Chicago doesnt. and CFL is Canadas NFL and TO have the most championships
Umm Chicago bulls, one of the greatest players played there, Blackhawks, umm made it to the final four teams, Cubs yeah, one of the most famous and loved teams out there, White sox won a World series just recently in 2005, Um Bears went Super bowl 2 years ago, Chicago Fire is quite the team as well. We also have 2 big name NCAA teams (Northwestern and Depaul), plus some good little ones. We have AHL as well. And as far as CFL being canadas NFL, yeah I believe your best come here
Toronto cups (pre NHL)1914,(NHL era)1918,1922,1932,1942,1945,1947,1948,1949,1951,1962,1963,1964,1967. Learn some history before sounding like an idiot. OWNED!
we are hockey power...before 1989 we have 6titles of the world cup, when czechoslovakia was divided into two states in 1993 we were added to C kategory!what a shame!but we gave revenge and in 2002 won the world cup in goteborg!we are the only country which was in C kategory and 8 years later won the title of world champions!..we are hockey power you can say what you want..we have only 5milion people and 12 000register players but we are world champions...sory for toronto im habs fan..owned!
@stilleavy What...14 cups...before the expansion and suddenly they get some compitition and now they can't win at all. And the other majority of cups comes from your canadian football team which the league consists of 8 teams. Seems like as long as you have little compition you can win but as soon as more teams come in Toronto buckles under the pressure.
I had to take this on too... What a canuck... as was already mentioned 6 nba titles, 2 superbowl trips, a world series and back to hockey dominance. By the way leafs fan, you guys look amazing this year...lmao Maybe you can hire someone off the street to play goal. Probably be better off...
@Kartkid024 , colleges?? who cares. college sports are bush league. its a Pro or Nothing world. never understood why anyone except a student would care about college sports.
The entire country watches College sports. Not just college kids. If I wanted to go into colleges only watched by college kids I would have added Chicago state, UIC, and more. As far as professional sports, well I'm not sure what sports Chicago doesn't have. We have every sport at nearly every level.
No the real shame is someone from Canada not only lacks so much current hockey knowledge but is also such a pompass ass... oh wait, that is typical... Oh and Toronto has sucked for quite a long time now too. So you sell out all the time. Yay, money well spent to see a sub par product...
If you don't like the Hawks go play in a Toronto forum to talk trash.
This is a video we fans of our team appreciate without having to deal with a complete tool who only seems to live to talk crap to everyone else and yes ive read all the posts, you started all this garbage. Jesus, even Sundin didn't want to stay there... Chose to retire with a rival. That speaks volumes... Jackass...
@millienniumforce And I am so glad to have it too. We'll part with some guys next year due to cap issues, but aw hell I waited for this day and now it's here! :D
god I love hockey; my dad grew up in chicago and told me about this game all the time. He went to catholic school and the nun was a huge red wings fan and the class listened to it on the radio that day. I lived in michigan in the 90s as a teenager and got into hockey, (cause you cant avoid it) but I think I am rooting for the hawks now that I live in chicago. They are an underdog even in their own city.
Mikita was only in the NHL because he was raised and learned the game in Canada, Slovakia had nothing to do with it. Slovaks are not exactly hockey powers. Czechs are far better
nothing to do?he was born here,he is slovak...he has only canadian citizenship but his nationality is slovak...we are not hockey power?first european player who won stanley cup,who reached 1000point and who reached 500goals was slovak, slovaks opened doors to european players to enter the nhl-brothers stastnys.peter stastny is nhl legend..we have also another player with 500goals-peter bondra.another players-demitra,hossa,gaborik,palffy,satan,handzus,zednik,nagy
When the Blackhawks went to the Stanley Cup Championship series they usually always put on the best and most challenging hard fought series of any team win or lose.
I'm 52 and the first series that I can remember was the 1966 Finals when Montreal beat Detroit but to this day the absolute best playoff series that I've ever seen was the 1971 Finals between Montreal and Chicago. Game 7 of that series is a pure classic.
your profile says you're 42. liar liar. but i agree, the 71 finals was the greatest series i've ever seen, with the Pocket Rocket going around Magnuson and beating Tony Esposito for the winning goal in the 7th game. vintage stuff......... but you're still a fibber
Detroit sucks so bad they just bitch slapped the hawks in the home and home. 4 zip in the D. And on your turf, in the Winter classic. Crushed you 6-4. It wasn't even close. LOL. LET'S GO RED WINGS. '08 Stanley Cup Champs.
First of all, the Hawks have won three Stanley Cups in 70 years. Don't know where you got that one from. It's just that their last one was 48 years ago.
Secondly, the Wings' number one goalie at the time was Terry Sawchuck- one of the best ever to don the pads. And Hank Bassen- the guy who played in this game- was no slouch, either.
And the Wings generally finished fourth out of the Original Six during that period- the last team to qualify for the playoffs.
1 cup since 1938, that's 70 years now. Because they won their first in 1933, that's 3 cups in 75 though (82 years overall, though 81 seasons thank you very much lock out).
With the series tied 1-1, they won 2-1 in triple O'T.

the hawks white jerseys were away jerseys in 61?

From 1955-56 season until 1969-71 season home team wear color uniform guest wear white (or gold if LA 67-69)

@werqa123 back in those days, the light colors were home. white was considered home for most teams up until the 80s

No. Being damn good up and down the roster will bring several Cups to Chicago.

HelloHeidiable 2 years ago
the goalies don't have helmets?! For NHL fans, you know how many shots end up bouncing off of goalie's facemasks, it would suck to be a goalie in the 60's.
GO HAWKS!!!!!!!!!
bjcrew24 2 years ago
good luck HAWKS and all their fans, ALL 3 OF THEM. i actually met a guy from chicago who didnt even know chicago had a team, lmao
stilleavy 2 years ago
That would be funny had chicago not had the highest attendance rate this season.
Kartkid024 2 years ago
get real, you know its not about attendance numbers, that only reflects stadium capacity. its about consecutive sellouts. Hawks had alot of sellouts this year, but its the same 21 thou or whatever. 21 thousand hockey fans in a city of millions. Do like Toronto and sell out every game for 50 years straight then ill give Chicago its due. Its a shame, they are a good team, they deserve more attention from the home town.
stilleavy 2 years ago
Well think about it, Whats in Toronto. Nothing really. Its canada, they live on Hockey cause its basically the only sport they are good at. Chicago has Baseball, basketball, soccer, football, minor leagues, college sports, and so much more. Of course hockey isn't going to be as big. As far as Capacity goes, the arena sizes aren't really that different from each other. So in the long run it doesn't make as much of a difference.
Kartkid024 2 years ago
I'm just saying, I'm not sure why you would make this joke when Chicago had the highest attendance rates.
Kartkid024 2 years ago
better yet, if toronto has sold out so many games, maybe it would be smart to get a larger arena.
Kartkid024 2 years ago
Toronto doesnt need a larger arena, they are by far the most valuable franchise in the NHL , with the highest yearly revenue. Chicago doesnt even come close.according to forbes Toronto ranks #1 at 450 million value and 160 yearly revenue. Chicago comes in at #14 on the list at 205 million, with a yearly revenue of 79 million, less than half of Toronto. Im from Chicago, but unlike you, i am not a fanboy. Toronto could buy the hawks with pocket change. lets be real.
Love4SK 2 years ago
Did you read my comment at all. I'm not talking about revenue, in fact I'm confused of where revenue even came into play here. I'm talking about attendences. If to say Toronto sells out so many games, maybe they should add more seats. I don't have a problem with you jumping into a conversation, but I suggest you go through the previous conversation. I think you may have misread it.
Kartkid024 2 years ago
Also Chicago had a average record of 22,247 where toronto had 19,312. You can use the excuse of stadium capacity, but then I can use the excuse back that the only reason toronto sells out is cause they have a smaller arena. If we had the same size arena we would sell out every game as well.
Kartkid024 2 years ago
you must be kidding? Toronto has 20 thousand a game with another 5 million crying because they cant get tickets (which are the most expensive in the league by the way). chicago has the same 20 thousand every game, and bf this season we were lucky to get 15 thou a game. Toronto has a MLB, NBA, CFL, MLS and a shitload of junior teams, so its not like the Leafs are the only game in town, so the Chicago has alot of sports team excuse holds no water. Chicago in hockey terms compares to the WashCaps
Love4SK 2 years ago
This comment makes no sense. Do you go out side and count the 5 million people crying they can't get a ticket, (Which by the way money again means nothing.) and do you happen to know the 20 thousand that go to the Hawks game, you must if you know they are the same people. Now I must ask about the MLB and NBA teams (Only other high level sports you have) How often do tickets sell for that. Nether of those teams are even popular. Also...
Kartkid024 2 years ago
Yeah Chicago has a lot more big name teams. The Bulls, Bears, Cubs, Sox, Northwestern, Depaul, and the AHL just out side the city for the hawks and another AHL in the city (which is not really popular). Chicago is defently more of a sports city than Toronto, so yes my excuse still holds true.
Kartkid024 2 years ago
And i suppose I forgot the fire in there as well. However again I suggest you don't come in picking a fight and read why I commented what I commented. It was in response to a joke saying Chicago has only 3 fans yet we had the highest average number of fans in the NHL this season.
Kartkid024 2 years ago
And your comment of we were lucky to get 15 thousand, yeah real lucky considering we averaged over 22 thousand.
Kartkid024 2 years ago
anyways, whats a Depaul and northwestr????.
stilleavy 2 years ago
chicago doesnt even compare to Toronto in terms of a sports town. Chicago doesnt. and CFL is Canadas NFL and TO have the most championships
stilleavy 2 years ago
Umm Chicago bulls, one of the greatest players played there, Blackhawks, umm made it to the final four teams, Cubs yeah, one of the most famous and loved teams out there, White sox won a World series just recently in 2005, Um Bears went Super bowl 2 years ago, Chicago Fire is quite the team as well. We also have 2 big name NCAA teams (Northwestern and Depaul), plus some good little ones. We have AHL as well. And as far as CFL being canadas NFL, yeah I believe your best come here

morecoje 2 years ago
@stilleavy What...14 cups...before the expansion and suddenly they get some compitition and now they can't win at all. And the other majority of cups comes from your canadian football team which the league consists of 8 teams. Seems like as long as you have little compition you can win but as soon as more teams come in Toronto buckles under the pressure.

As far as professional sports, well I'm not sure what sports Chicago doesn't have. We have every sport at nearly every level.
Kartkid024 1 year ago
No the real shame is someone from Canada not only lacks so much current hockey knowledge but is also such a pompass ass... oh wait, that is typical... Oh and Toronto has sucked for quite a long time now too. So you sell out all the time. Yay, money well spent to see a sub par product...
If you don't like the Hawks go play in a Toronto forum to talk trash.
