  • This song has to have 30m views..

  • This is my youth!!!

  • lmao pic of morissey w flowers, nooo but morissey is love ;p witty sarcastic lyrics, i like :) !

  • The lyrics are just so spot on of a typical indie fan. Always make me smile.

  • No table is "always ours".

    That would be horrible unsocial!

  • See the Divine Comedy with Jose Gonzalez @ the Old Royal Naval College, Greenwich on 26th July!!! greenwichsummersessions.co.uk

  • where is this? :CCCCCCCCCCCC

  • The Divine Comedy playing in London at Greenwich Summer Sessions on the 26th July!

  • What Procman2008 says!!

  • divine comedy - love what you do - yeah !

  • My new happy-beat! :)

finding out Cathy Davey does the harmony just makes it better!

  • When I first heard this I thought it sounded like The Kinks. Love this album and this is one of my favourite tracks, though Regeneration is my favourite Divine Comedy album. Neil hannon is just so talented. Check out his work with Rodrigo Leao on one of his albums - a track called Cathy - It's a beautiful song and brilliantly produced.

  • This song is very cute.

  • I agree, lyrically Neil Hanlon's genius!

  • has it something common with Phantom's divine comedy ?

  • @N1ee No. Phantom's Divine Comedy it's a very strange record from the 70's. There was a rumor about Jim Morrison leading the project, singing on it, but it's all false. Anyway, the mistery remains...

  • Cathy Davey's harmony vocals are awesome.

  • Respect for including a Sheep On Drugs vinyl cover in the video clip

  • He sounds like Jarvis Cocker

  • He does not

  • loving the way the music video is done almost like a comic book.

  • Il faut avoir plus de 35 ans pour comprendre de quoi il parle

  • @bouilll

    not really

  • SO UNDER-RATED!!!

  • thankyou oh so much to brendon urie for showing me this

  • Brillant! This song is a perfect summary of how it felt when I was a few years younger and indeed spent most week-ends at indie-discos. I guess they are all the same, all over the western world... :-D

  • @CrimsonUD in the eastern world too... reminds me of the days I would dance to the smiths till 5 in the morning..

  • Neil, you nailed it laddie :) i'm only seven months older than you, but had the same experience half a world away - at probably the same time. and yeah, blue monday was always, always the last song... brilliant, love ya mate

  • the active set indie-rock video miusic

  • Lancashire hotpots.. indie disco released 2yrs ago

  • The world needs more indie discos!!!!!!!!!

  • @dandruf1

What about the Prince, the indiepub in Brixton, on Coldharbour Lane??!

  • at the somerset house gig 17thjuly 2010, he sung this. that gig was genius.

  • I've wondered for a while whether he was referring to My Bloody Valentine when he sings "And some Valentines..", think I can just about see the Loveless album cover in there somewhere. That's awesome.

  • A brilliant artist,make no mistake !

  • Great songwriter, I love it !

  • As always... amazing!!

  • Damn. Looks like I bought the whole record shop!

  • Neil Hannon is completely under rated, one of the best singer / songwritters of our time, respect!

  • @procman2008 Aye. Literacy may well have something to do with it.

  • wow, real video for a change, respect!

  • Reminds me of Zhivagos in 1984. Thursday was U18 nite.

    Happy days...

  • @milomoon

    Where was it?

  • Muito Bom!

  • Oh this song reminds me of everything that is good in life. If I could pick a song to live in, this would be the one. Love.

  • this is such a great video :)

  • Londoners: this is 'Feeling Gloomy' to a T, right?

  • @alttakes

This is the name of a good indie disco?

  • where is this song written about? i really want to go to this bar, they play better music then anywhere now days.

  • @19sparkie91 Try Whelans in Dublin on Friday nights, very close to this!

  • @19sparkie91

I know (only) two places in France : Shannon pub in Toulon (South-East) and "Le Motel" in Paris. But there are still a few indie disco in the world, aren't there?

(Debaser in Stockholm, Garage at Glasgow, Garage in London...)

  • Great song, love you Neil, I think I may just buy a ticket to see you in Bournemouth later this year!

  • love it

  • I love neil hannon, he never lets me down, he's a god of a man

  • shes tho one

  • haha love neil's glasses:)

  • Really, Neil? This is what you've been reduced to? You're *ridiculously* more clever! It's bright and beautiful, but you're better, and you know it. xxx

  • @EarnestPrat - Yes, because Neil Hannon reads every YouTube post and thinks to himself, "EarnestPrat hated that song I spent countless hours writing and recording. I better not insult his *ridiculously* fine sense of taste again. I live to please him/her."

I hear Justin Bieber has a new single out and know one has commented on it. Hurry!

  • Ummmm isn't this the same vid you put on facebook fo all to enjoy ?

  • blurrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

  • one of the best song ever made

  • That was cute. I enjoyed this.

  • basically this song describes my life and in particular every single night i've ever spent in doyles on d'olier street.love that place!

  • @mwwhahahahahaha

Is it an indie disco in Dublin?

  • @dandruf1 yea, doyles on the corner of d'olier street, near college green.big purple building.its not tecnically a DISCO....its a student pub, but they've a tiny dancefloor and dj upstairs in the lounge. the place is small and shabby but thats exactly why i love it. i've had some great great nights in there for years now. the academy on abbey street is an indie club, the workmans club, the button factory....there's loads of indie places in town

  • Divine!

  • Love It <£

  • Great return!! Been listening to 'Casanova' this afternoon. Still love that album......Bring on next payday for the new album!?!?!? Still smile whenever I see certain buses on the motorway too!!! Hoping hoping to catch Mr Hannon and co at Manchester. We'll see..

  • I'm not really liking this song. It's too cutesy and "wink wink." Not his strongest work, but I did like seeing him DJ with Victrolas. I still love me some Neil Hannon, though. This one just isn't clicking with me.

  • @madamewoselle I think it's set up like it would be a fairly sharp comic song, but it really just turns out to be 'Weren't the early 90s lovely?' The DJ bit made me laugh though, I knew guys who would have done that without any sense of irony. I was probably one of them.

  • Anyone think the start of song is like noah and the whale - shape of my test it and tell me if u think so

  • Neil Hannon is just a lyrical genius, must be his irish wit, love it

  • göttlich.

  • I LOVE IT !!!!

  • Love the Divine Comedy...Neil Hannon is the king of sardonic wit!

  • Divine's Comedy brand new album is really great.

  • She makes my heart beat the same way

As at the start of Blue Monday.

    Brilliant.

  • These kids are trying too hard

  • YES!!!!! I JUST NEW IT WOULD BE GREAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I just found out about it today! I was hoping they would come out with a new CD soon! One of my fav bands!

  • @angelobgangelo You knew it would be great, but only found out about it today?

  • adorei!

  • Him playing this on Phantom was absolutely classic - "Bar chords, this is very difficult! Ow, I'm skipping the middle 8!"

  • the man is pure class

  • Ironically, he may have had a bigger impact if it weren't for Morrisey whose lyrics were far more cutting and witty.

  • They're back!!!! Fantastic!!

  • so 90s and i love it

  • Thank you for this wonderful song.

  • Always delivered. Same here, welcome back!

  • Great Video, welcome back!!

  • CAN'T WAIT FOR BANG GOES THE KNIGHTHOOD!

  • It has grown on me so much :) utterly love it. Also, I went all "f yeah!" when I saw the Ride EP in the video :D Neil FTW

  • One of the most underated bands of all time, everyone in their thirties can relate to this song. Pure Class !

  • @MrMode72 I agree x

  • The Divine Comedy just keep comin with these little gems... have just pre-orderd the album.. can't WAIT to hear it :-) :-) :-)

  • it feels like... at the indie disco! :)

  • Nobody quite like DC. Hannon's originality always welcome breath of fresh air-love the stuff he writes.

  • ".under the poster of Morrissey with a bunch of flowers..." I love it!

  • lyrics sounds a bit like Jarvis cocker, slightly funny for example the bit about blue monday

  • @TheMetalJug hahaha I was just thinking the same thing.

    Indie Disco=>Disco 2000 ;)

  • At the indie discooo-ooo-ooooh

    Yeah

  • brill :-)

Thanks Radcliffe and Marconie for introducing me to this :-))))

  • Briiliant song, typical brilliant stuff from Neil

  • What a great song! Catchy tune and wonderful mix of strings and indie acoustic rock. Can´t wait for the album, up to now I loved all of Neil Hannon´s album. He is probably one the smartest songwriters of the world - his lyrics are so perfectly ironical, it just makes me smile. L-O-V-E it :-).

  • What a lovely song! The ascending chord run, spare beat, strings, Neil has, once again, come up with the perfect pop song.

  • This song is just... it makes me feel like I am made out of strawberry mousse (in a good way).

  • @CaptainSuperSinister what would it be to be made of strawberry mousse in a "bad way"? :)

  • @birdonawi Realising that your body was made of mousse and ceasing to function.

  • @CaptainSuperSinister

You sir have won teh internetz

  • @CaptainSuperSinister

loving the idea of being made of strawberry mousse.

  • Good start to long awaited new stuff! Hope album can match heavyweight Cassanova/ Fin de Siecle material. Well see on the 23rd i guess.

  • Yes! Love it, such a brilliant band

  • she makes my heart beat the same way as at the start of blue monday <3

  • ficking great!

  • does anyone know who it is singing backing vocals? Sounds like it could be Lauren Laverne but i'm not 100%

  • @seanioio Cathy Davey is on backing vocals.

    DCHQ x

  • @divinecomedyhq @seanuiui Cathy Davey is a great singer, and worth checking out in her own right if you like The Divine Comedy. I'm *so* excited about the new album!

  • @seanioio yep Cathy Davel who is his partner ...an Irish singer songwriter

  • love it x

  • Gramophone turntables - love it. Great writer.

  • great tune and clever lyrics. "She makes my heard beat the same way like at the start of Blue Monday"

  • great song

  • The first time I heard this I was almost in tears; It brought back every happy memory of growing up, and going out with friends in Newcastle!

  • la perfecta elegía para el rock inglés de los 90s y para esa época en la vida propia que a varios nos tocó vivir

  • Hmm, well it´s a bit laff innit? Why´s the girl dressed like a sixties mod-girl? What am I missing? I don´t get the `brilliant lyrics´ thing !?? Pffff.... anyway

  • @yomogiwitch Because that's how these indie girls dress?

  • She makes my heart beat the same way, as at the start of Blue Monday love it

  • great great song, cannot wait for the cd out 31st of May.. love the DC best band ever

  • Mighty stuff!

  • great! looking forward to it! brilliant lyrics...nice vid!

  • Hah, At the end, the last record is Casanova!

  • like it a lot, good man Neil

  • Brings back memories of my student days from '89 to '93 on a Thu night at the student indie disco. Well done lads,

  • On first hearing i thought...ok catchy but a bit lightweight, second hearing .... smart words, third hearing.... can't get it out of my head and and all the better for Mr H not overcomplicating the arrangement. Subtle use of strings. I get it, i've been to that disco and i've brought the records. Can't wait for the album. c
