The point of learning something like this is so you can incorporate it -- even just parts of it -- into your own repertoire. Naturally, you'd want to see it demonstrated very mechanically so you get the gist of the underlying concept. It never ceases to amaze me how guitarists seem to be the only instrumentalists that actively reject ideas that could help them play better, on the grounds of "soul."
