  • Im new to gardening, why do you put screens over your plants?

  • @WendyKey2015 We have a healthy population of squirrels and if I leave the pots uncovered when I first seed them, the squirrels get in there and dig like there's no tomorrow...hehehe I leave the screens on until the seedlings are almost touching them and then remove them. By that time, even if the squirrels get in there, they have half a chance.

  • @WendyKey2015 oh ok Thx

  • oh.. i've left some amazing plants in places i've lived.. i completely understand the heartbreak. i brought worms along with me the last time i moved.. and corn. corn in a container.. ha..

how fun to have that much room i'd be digging all the time

OH GEEZ.. marigolds. i forgot marigolds

how in the world did that happen? thanks for the reminder!!

what kind of critters do ya get?

  • @javgirl Yes, me too...lost a lot of orchids that way and some killer bromeliads! (sniff, sniff) It makes me sad to think of the amazing landscape that is still at my old place. We get raccoons and oppossom...they like to dig up stuff! Actually, our squirrels are behaving so far...heheh

  • I can't believe it has been a year already! Wow, time sure flies!! I wanted to plant some tomatoes this year using a topsy turvy but it needs watering every day and we will be leaving soon for SC and the birth of our first grandson, so I can't really start it till we get back.. hope it won't be too late.. I'm thrilled to meet my grandson though and can't wait till he arrives! Good to see you Mic and know how happy you are! It looks peaceful there even being on a busy street! :D

  • @mysteryglo Yes, Judy...isn't it amazing how fast that has gone by. You've known me for quite a while now! Is a topsy turvy the upside down tomato thingy? Sounds interesting! HUGS to you!!!! Can't wait to hear more about your grandson!

  • @PaintedRavensong You were one of the people who inspired me to start vlogging.. It was a video that you did while making tea in your kitchen and talking about a bagger at your grocery store that you were worried about and slipped her a note to call you if she needed help. What ever happened with that? Anyway, you made vlogging look so easy! Yes, that is an upside down tomato thing..I can't seem to have any luck the other way so am going to try it! LOL

  • @mysteryglo Yes, Judy, I remember that video well. I still see her and she appears to be doing well...so that is a big relief. I was just thinking about that video the other day too...heheh Well, if I inspired you then that is AWESOME. And you are a GREAT vlogger!!! HUGS!

  • Very nice little herb garden you have there. How fun it will be to watch them grow.

  • @myrnaukelele Thanks Myrna...I have more herbs inside in our kitchen window. Also, just today my okra sprouted and the peppers are doing really well. Can't wait for my homegrown veges!!!!

  • Once it gets above 90 it's just too hot for plants or people either one! Thankfully it seldom gets much hotter than that here.

Good luck with the container garden this year Mic. I'm scaling back quite a bit this year since I've still got quite a few cans of green beans, and corn in the freezer. Squash, peppers, tomatoes, and cucumbers will be it. I planted some tomato seeds in cups 3 days ago but they haven't come up yet. Your tomatoes looked really big. Did you buy plants or plant from seed?

  • @3CoolKats Hi Robert...this year I bought small tomato seedlings because by the time I got my act together it was too late to seed them. They do look healthy though and are liking it on the deck. I'm hoping that the basil and marigolds will keep the bugs away. Cool that you have so much in the freezer...at least it is all the stuff you grew.

  • Doesn't sound strange. I've had to abandon a small garden due to moving, so I can relate.

Wow, a full year already... time flies!

Liking the balcony garden. And it looks like it will be a cool garden down there once you finally dig in (literally, even).

  • @OhCurt Yes, time flies for sure! When I was getting ready to say how long it had been, it kind of took me by surprise that next month is a year! HUGS!!!

  • Hi! lol I gave up on growing vegetables, it was getting ugly... the daily battle between me and all the critters in the neighbourhood. It did keep my husband quite amused though. Now I stick to flowers.

  • @longhairred Yes, that is a battle that I have fought for years (squirrels were my culprits!) We'll see how doing it on the second floor changes things.

  • @PaintedRavensong It may just relocate the restaurant to a more convenient location. *wink*

  • Sunny has had some success container gardening. (not as much as she has hoped for) She still dreams of a few acres of garden, but alas, her buckets will have to do for now.

    Thanks for the encouragement.

  • @SunnyDazStormyNitz Yes, I dream of acres too but we can grow a lot in a little space. My old garden was extremely small and I harvested awesome veges!

  • Mic I love the container gardening. I need to try that myself on my patio. The backyard looks really nice and at least semi-private. I bought some sunflowers and geraniums this week and it's already a struggle to keep the sunflowers alive in this heat. Glad to hear that life is good for you. You deserve it! -Jim

  • @CountryComesToTown Jim, you should definitely try it...we have similar weather and if I can make it work down here, you certainly can. Can't wait to see your sunflowers growing! HUGS and you deserve happiness, too!

  • It's still to cold to start planting here...another week or two and I'll be planting something...LOL I do have fruit trees that are starting to get fruit now...apricots, white peaches, plums, and nectarines.

Great start!! Yippie, just step out onto the patio and get the fixings for a fresh salad or whatever...:-) Happy Spring! :-) xoxoxo

  • @GreatGig1 Caylyn, I would love to be able to grow those kinds of fruit trees...wow...can't imagine having my own apricots! YUM!!! Would love to see your yard/garden when it is in full swing! Happy Spring to you, too.

  • great sitting on the deck with ya..........can't wait to come over for a salad......i'll toss it for ya.

  • @elbrookman heheh...thanks! Thanks for sitting on the deck with me. I can't wait to make an entire salad from my garden.

  • How beautiful and exciting! I hope to see more of your garden as it grows!

May it bring you lots of joy and blessings!

  • @madeofyucca Hi Yucca...yes, I'm definitely going to be doing some garden progression videos. It's always cool to see how fast things grow! Blessings to you!!

  • Inspiring! I totally resonate with things being new for along time then finding a flow.

  • @AdamHintz Thanks Adam...I really missed growing my own veges last year while I was moving. Having organic, homegrown veges that you can eat minutes after picking is unlike anything you can get anywhere. So worth the effort!!!! HUGS!

  • Love your little garden. I hate the heat also and I grew up in Central America. LOL. It sounds perfectly normal to me to have an affinity for your plants, to not want to leave them. You have all that hard work and teach them to grow. Lovely area where you live. I like the tree being so close to the deck. LOL about the pillow.

  • @RiverBirch1967 River, we definitely are on the same wavelength. I have a lot of land to play with here and so I am looking forward to creating the great garden space that I used to have. HUGS!
