In "a vau-l'eau", the ambition of huysmans was to describe one day in the life of a man in paris, in which nothing interesting happens, the "hero" is described having bad meals in horrible restaurants and coming back to his cold appartment, alone.Very sad, realistic and nothing happens to this poor mister Folentin. All the interest lays in the style, the peculiar style of these few pages. This short novel is a masterpiece of french litterature.

Must have been so hard to translate that brilliant novel... I love it so much i chose a quote from it and had it tattooed on my ribs! It will always remind me of what matters most to me in life.

thanks for your appreciation of the video. i might do la-bas some time in the indefinite future, but i haven't read the later durtal novels and, from what i've heard about them, likely will never get around to doing so.
