Peter knew Sophia Loren when they were children and wrote it about her. I think that is why it has such amazing lyrics and passion to it. He was relating what had happened in true life. Sophia is wearing that topless swimsuit in the pic. Amazing!!!

@Ell1992 Actually I read that he wrote the song about a girl he once knew who died in a fire. I always thought it was about Ms Loren, but apparently this is not the case. Hope this helps :-)

Although I enjoy the song, I find the singer patronising, assuming and annoying. He sounds really smug and pleased with himself that he's got one over on the woman he's singng to. It also leaves me wondering whether he also resents successful women.

Obviously, Wes Anderson is repsonsible for my loving this song... I imagine that I'd love it still even If I wasn't blown away by Hotel Chevalier, but Wes Anderson's work a la Natalie Portman and Jason Schwartzman just dropped my jaw. I fell in love with the mood of this song instantly. "Would you like to see my view of Paris?" Simply beautiful, as they stand facing the adjacent building - Jason handing Natalie the toothpick...
