    At normal driving (cruse) in highest gear probably 30MPG, it's light car, at low rpm you just using torque.

    6.2 liter engines with 480 hp can be very efficient at low speeds, but when you press pedal down you are under 10MPG easily.

    With T56, LS3 going up to 28mpg instant easily at 55-60mph in C6.

    I know these roads in Carmarthenshire and you have to be a pretty good driver to beable to handle a car with this performance on damp roads.

  • Depends on the model. The 6.3L is the Corvette C6 engine and it makes 426hp. You can get up to 800hp. Or if you do the kit car way and build this car yourself (more people do that then buy a built one, it is offered by Ultima) you can make any power you want. I've seen 2200hp versions. Although Ultima sells a new 1600hp, 2700lb version for, a hell of a lot, $3mil. It's called the Maxximus G-force.

  • Any carbureted pushrod V8 just won't pull its weight like it should. EFI puts it a step up, but otherwise, not really.

    BMW's little 301ci V8 in the Ascari A10 has 625BHP. From something not even 5 litres big.

    Big blocks are old to me. I'm Gen Y - I like modern stuff. And Germans and the British do get a lot from their stuff. The Viper's 8.3 litre V10 has only 500BHP. Terrible for its size. And it has VVT!

    I'm talking broadly, not about your engines, really.

  • @LordJesseD It's not just power to engine size though. There are a lot more things to think about like engine size and weight. The chevy small block is very small and relatively light for it's size. Then there's torque. Not just peak torque but where it's made too. The bmw engine is quite heavy for it's cc and has a lot more weight high up with all the cams and valve gear up there. That makes quite a difference in something like an ultima.

    Modern BMW engines are one of the lightest engines on market you can get. New straight-6 twintubo, weights 340Ibs including all parts installed on. Engine block is made from die cast magnesium-aluminum alloy. 30% lighter than standard al-alloy block. Older S65 V8 from M3 weights 440Ibs fully dressed. Only engine builder comparable with DOHC design is AMG. AMG engine in SLS 6.2 V8 weights 470Ibs, same like LS7. Technology always win.

  • @2jzgtejza80 The only issues there are the weight being much higher up in the engine - in an Ultima that would be a killer for CofG, lack of power and a big lack of torque from most and in all cases cost. If you use the money left over from buying the engines to build an SBC you will get a LOT more power for the same money.

    You also have to include all the other bits for the tech like ecu, intercoolers, etc - it all adds weight the SBC doesn't need. Tech sometimes wins.

    Ford DOHC design sucks in weight, but it's reliable. Well SBC are good if carrying all modern stuff like LS7/LS9. Engine weight can compensated by reducing weight of car. Example is McLaren F1 which weights 1100kg, but S70/2 BMW V12 engine weights alone 265kg or 585Ibs. Same thing is with AMG V12 in CLK GTR and Zonda's, specially in Zonda R, where weights 235kg or 517Ibs what is excelent for V12. For example LS9 is 540Ibs fully dressed.

    When you are buliding ultimate race car like FXX, Zonda R, you dont watch about money. But if you are building cars like British Ariel Atom, Caterham, Westfield, Radical etc. and Ultima GTR, Shelby Cobra... you are usually limited by budget. Light cars can use smaller engines instead SBC. Ultima GTR with LS7 and G50 transaxle is perfect for track days. And price same as standard ZO6, makes Ultima much faster and fun to drive. Sometimes engineer need find balance.

  • yeah, what you could so it just stick with the stock motor till you get used to it, then mod it to make more power and then get used to it and on and on till you have a weapon. once im in the military i will be able to afford on if i save really good, but if not i iwll just spend the money on my mazda and make it fast haha. still not the same as a caterham tho.

  • I'm jealous, awesome car mate. Those roads were a bit poxy though, what you need to do is head up on the A470 to Dogellau, then towards Bala and find the Evo triangle. Amazing roads where you'd really be able to let her rip.

  • veyrons are a waste of money, would only get one if it was handed to me (like thats gonna happen).

    The GTR Twin Turbo when tuned to over 800+ bph would just about beat the veyron and round a track would hammer it. think, it aint that its 800+break, but its like nearly 1300bph per tonne, a veyron is noway near that.

    And Fergiec, if its ure dream car you know you can build one for like £20k. i gonna in a year or two.

  • urm, i'm actually really considering making one. I was intent on a Dax Tojeiro (Ac cobra), but my mind is gettin changed i think! Its strange, but the sites order form states just under 16k (exc. VAT) but i'm tryin to find out what thats lacking. It includes the majority of the engine etc, but i think lacks the wheels...but not much else. The funny thing is most sites say it costs about 30k-40k depending if u want to source parts or get brand new ones from Ultima... i'll find out soon.

  • bomboclutz, you simply can't complare an ultima to a veyron, they're two completely different cars. the veyron has Traction control, Anti lock brakes, stability management, air-con, power steering, power windows, cruise control, sterio, CD player, leather interior, creature comfort, lauch control and the list goes on. you need to know that the two can't compare and that you should stop labelling a car as "better" because you obviously have no idea what you're talking about. veyron for me please.

    The fastest GTR I saw tops @ approx 240 but gets there WAY faster than the Veyron. The Veyron is about twice the GTR's weight and is geared for "dick waving rights," the GTR is geared for approx the longest straight you'll see on most race tracks.

    So if you want dick waving rights about top-speeds that it will never see on most race tracks, then buy a Veyron, but if you want something that THRASHES a Veyron on twisty roads or race tracks: LS7-TT in a GTR.

  • Ultima GTR is fastest accelerator/deccelerator in the world... 0-100mph-0 in less than 10 seconds! It's Top speed isn't as high as the Bugatti or SSC Aero, but I gather that this car would win on the race track.

    It costs around 3 million to make a Veyron (they make about a 2 mill loss on each car they sell). It costs £3.50 exactly to make an Ultima. Mind you, you do get a radio, comfy seat and air con in the Veyron. And you don't have to build it yourself. But 'blow it out the water?' I think not.

    Best car for performance and money wise is the new Skyline GTR - round 40 - 50k for 0-62 in 3.6 secs. Thats money well spent!

  • An Ultima recently ran 9.9seconds on the 1/4 mile, a Veyron runs 10.4. The Veyron is not as fast as the Ultima GTR700 from 0-100-0. The Ultima weighs about half as much and has around a third less power, and loses less of the power through the transmission line. For driving fast on any given track or road, the Ultima is the better car.

  • Thought I read somewhere recently that the Skyline would be well over 60k? If that's the case, then GTR is the better bargain, IMO. I'm not in that tax bracket yet, so I'm in the "lesser" fun car bargain, Mazdaspeed3.

  • this car is so amazing, im obsessed. just started saving hahaha. even with a small 300hp small block approx 225kw still equates to 4.4kg/kw same as porsche 911 GT3. you'll get absolutely blistering performance out of the smallest engine and be doing sub 5 seconds 0-62mph (0-100km/h). i love it thats all i can say.

  • Thats what I like about this video, the driver seems to know not to take the car to its limits. If you have ever driven in the Welsh mountains, you would know that you don't hammer it everywhere, or you will crash. It is that simple.

    I would like to see this car get a clear run of Pen Y Pas, that would be interesting, I've seen all kinds of cars up there, and been in a Lamborghini Gallardo for a couple of Pen Y Pas runs, that was some experience.
