It is very gorey yes mostly during season one much less during Kai(season2) and Rei(season 3) but once you've watched all the arks and how they tie together into a giant exciting murder mystery it will blow you away I highly recommend it

Oh it is scary...

I've jumped a few times coz Rena sometimes shouts stuff like "LIES!!!" etc

But I think its a pretty good anime and has really weird twists to it.

@gabyblabla74 its based on a murder mystery game origionally released in japan. There are reccuring story arcs that are besically there because is is set up on a 'witches gameboard' the peices on the gameboard have to find a way to overcoem the obstacle and try to break fate.

the storyline si beautiful and the characters are so, so well designed. i must go as far to say that this is my favourite anime of all tie, the series go: Higurashi ni, kai, then rei. Umineko is a sister series :3 10/10!

It gets crazy near the end of an arc (and sometimes during the entire arc.) The people always end up going berserk and killing people. In the first arc Keiichi beats Mion and Rena to death with a bat. So yeah, lots of blood, not so much gore, and a whole lot of murdering crazy lunatics.

Erm... it can get kinda bad at times. Not nearly as bad as the manga though. The manga at times is just downright horrific.

On a side note, hearing this made me wonder what it'd be like if, say, Tsukasa pulled an "USO DA!" moment of her own. I'm not sure I'd take her seriously...

Well, the first season has question arcs and answer arcs, four of each. The four question arcs come first, and those are stories of things that could happen, and then each answer arc tells more info about each questions arc. I haven't gotten to the second season yet myself, but apparently, the second season clears up all the confusing parts.
