@nmgscp Because there is no such thing as a Middle East Song Contest, and because they are in the EBU, and the reason they were allowed to enter the EBU was because their territory is in the EBU-range.
@Eurodictionary The EBU range is quite strange, but taking into consideration that this is the EUROvision Song Contest, imagine that all the Middle East and North African countries would participate! Strange no? Even Qatar has asked permission to participate. Eurovision spirit would be gone. Fortunately it's only Israel the absolutely non-European country that participates (it was Morocco once but once is not very meaningful). Armenia+Cyprus do, but they're very close to Europe at least.
@nmgscp Aha and basically the only reason why these countries have not taken part yet or don't take part anymore is because of Israel's participation, and I don't see those countries entering without Israel either. Their broadcasters are quite underdeveloped, when Lebanon was intending to participate, they had no clue what to do as no one watches their channel in Lebanon :P With that Belarus & Israel is the only country to participate not to be in the European Council.
Also not the worry, Qatar won't take part simply because they are outside of this range completely and has no chance of getting into the Council of Europe.
@SimsMoyal Azerbaijan and Morocco are quite closer to Europe than Israel is... Morocco is 15 kms from Europe, and Azerbaijan is 0 (zero) kms from Europe, since part of its territory is in Europe. Anyway, I'm not for the Moroccan participation in Eurovision either.
@SimsMoyal Well, Morocco definitely is closer to Europe than Israel is... When I was in Southern Spain I could actually see Morocco very well from the coast. And Armenia and Cyprus are quite closer to Europe than Israel is... It's not even a matter of intelligence... Just use the Google Earth, OK? And concerning to Azerbaijan, it actually has a real territory in Europe... Israel is so proud of itself, can't it be proud about where it is located?
Geweldig....... heerlijke herinneringen....Israel doet mee vanwege vroeger............

Why does Israel participate in the Eurovision Song Contest instead of a Middle East Song Contest?
