On what basis is a person declared righteous before God? On the basis of Christ's death, resurrection, and imputation of God's righteousness to the sinner. When Christ's righteousness is credited to a sinner's account, God declares him righteous even though the sinner has no righteousness of his own.
The word "salvation" is broad term; it has different aspects. I was saved two thousand years ago in the sense that Jesus paid sin's penalty for His people so that His people will not pay that penalty. I was saved when I first believed in Jesus in the sense that I was justified when I was converted. I am being saved now in the sense that God is conforming me to the image of His Son. I will be saved in the future in the sense that I will be glorified.
@RabMaksim It basically says that that salvation not legal, that the sinners sin is not guilt of breaking the law for which Christ's blood pays the price but an ontological, essential corruption of the soul that is healed trough unity with Christ God. Christ's death has loosen the grip of death upon humanity and restored part of the bond men had with God. As the ancient hymn puts it: Christ is risen for the dead, by his death death was trumpled and to all in the graves he has given life!
I can't make sense of this..it's too vague. What does it mean to be saved? The vid doesn't say. Why should Christians adopt this soteriology? The vid doesn't say. Why ___? etc.
@08978675645342312345 They should adopt it because it is the original soteriology of the christian faith thought by the apostles and their students, and because when you delve a bit deeper into it , it is the most beatifull soteriology among all religions, illuminating Jesus as a true God of Love and Justice, unlike in blood attonement where these contradict.
I don't agree that the Bible teaches that Jesus was a substitute but rather our representative before His Father. He offered the perfect sacrifice of Himself and we as members of His Body are called to offer ourselves in union with Him.
Well thought-out. Your heart feels through your mind. Your mind thinks through your heart. Those who ask if someone is saved, are only attempting to cause doubt and confusion.. But you are right. We were saved two thousand years ago, on the cross of Jesus Christ. It is not OUR decision, but GOD'S decision on our behalf. We are were helpless as a race to save ourselves. HE saved us, and your answer is a grateful response to His love and grace. Thank you :-)
Orthodoxy **NEVER** teaches we can "earn" Salvation. This is simply a cross between poor communication on our part, and intentional misrepresentation of us by our less than honest critics.
@jwmarco21 Forgive me for intervening...Some modern authors that provide good insight are...Alexander Schmemann, Father Thomas Hopko, Bishop Kallistos (Timothy)Ware...apart from that. reading the Bible and the writings of the Church Fathers. The best advice for reading about the Church would come from an Orthodox priest, who could direct you clearly to writings that benefit you. The Church is "experience" though so the best way to learn more is to attend Divine Liturgy.
Everything that belongs to the Father has been given to the Son. The Holy Spirit proceeds from the Father .....AND THERFORE also proceeds from the Son. To deny that is to be a heretic. The papal see is vacant, Benedict XVI and his 4 predecessors were in fact heretical antipopes, HOWEVER St. Peters LAWFUL successors have his same divinely ordained primacy and jurisdiction. Covert to the one true Catholic Faith outside of which nobody at all is saved. Visit vaticancatholicdotcom
@truelightwitness The first council of constantinople, when adding the third section to the Nicene creed, included in its cannons an anathema to anyone who would alter the creed after that point. Therefore, anyone who adds the filioque clause is anathematized, including the popes and western bishops.
@truelightwitness You Sedevacantists are not genuine Catholics. According to Catholics, Apostolic Succession itself resides in the person of the Pope, who is Christ's Vicar on earth. When you separate yourself from Rome, you separate yourself from the very source of Catholic authenticity. You have no foundation on which to justify your schism from the Mother Church of Rome, especially when such separation is forbidden by the Pope himself, the very criterion of authenticity.
@magnus56j We're not separating ourselves from Rome, we're realizing that the See is vacant because as Catholic dogma teaches us, heretics are outside the church. He who is outside cant be the head. It's precisely because I hold firm to the infallible teaching of the Church, that I reject the anti-Catholic, anti-Christ frauds for what they are, which is anti-POPES! Being Catholic doesn't mean following new gospel taught by heretics claimig to be popes. Wake up. visit vaticancatholic(dot)com
@truelightwitness First of all, an anti-Pope was a person who opposed a legitamately elected pope and then claimed themself to be pope. Pope John Paul II and Pope Benedict XVI are legitamtely elected popes, not anti-Popes. Therefore, you certainly are separating yourself from Rome. If you think the pope is a heretic, then what do you plan on doing to do to excommunicate him? How are you going to put in a "valid" pope in the chair? Under what authority can you replace the current pope?
@truelightwitness Sedevacantists recognize the validity of the dogmatic definition of "papal infallibility." Orthodox Christians find it ridiculous that only one person can claim the Holy Spirit. How can one person inherit the faith? I believe in the infallibility of the Church itself which the gates of hell cannot prevail against, not in the infallibility of one person. Orthodox are not the ones who changed the Mass over and over or invented new doctrines such as papal infallibility.
What exactly is the formula or reasoning that the "orthodox" schismatics use to say that one council is false and another is true? It's not the number of bishops present........can anyone answer that? seems like an illogical belief system
@truelightwitness Umm, I think you are misinterpreting the Orthodox viewpoint. Orthodoxy believes infallibility rests in the Church, and since the First Seven Ecumenical Councils meet the condition that the council was accepted by the WHOLE church, an therefore is infallible. That it was called together legally is also important a factor. It is also important to note that doctrines were never invented at councils. The councils were mainly used to combat heresy. Orthodoxy never changed the faith.
@truelightwitness true! it is not the number of bishops present that matters, but their concordance. when your bishops decided to make decisions over the heads of our bishops, they broke away. we did not invent indulgendce or purgatory, we did not go on crusades and we did burn innocent women because their hair was red.... what is so illogical about that?
@truelightwitness The Spirit is sent into the world, within time, by the Son; but, as regards his origin within the eternal life of the Trinity, the Spirit eternally proceeds from the Father alone.
Sister in Christ. Thank you so much for this video. As a Catholic I agree with everything you said. Keep me in your prayers. I continue to pray for the unity of our beloved Church.
"THE GOVERNMENT OF THE UNITED STATES IS NOT IN ANY SENSE FOUNDED ON THE CHRISTIAN RELIGION." (Treaty of Tripoli, Article 11: Written during the Administration of George Washington and signed into law by John Adams.)
I am a sinful evangelical living in Romania. A beautifully Orthodox Country that together with the sister countries of Orthodox religion tops the charts in Europe and the world in corruption, alcoholism and child infanticide : 21 million babies since 89 . So, saved or not, my Orthodox brothers are acting like unsaved, even if they are being saved by the mother church. If the church and the clergy can save one in such a way, doesn't we need Jesus to save us from the Orthodox church??
Forgive me. I am not 100% sure what you are saying. If you're saying that countries that claim to be Orthodox Christian are still fallen and corrupt, my answer is "well, like, DUH!!!!" I am an Orthodox Christian living in a the most evangelical Protestant part ( the Southeast) of a very evangelical Protestant country (the United States) and can tell you that here too you will find abortion, lying, and every other sin run amok; often committed by those who call themselves evangelical.
However those same Baptists and such, commit their treasured sins in open defiance of what their own churches teach them, much like the hypocrisy you see from self described Orthodox Christians
@ kristian OLS....the verses you've quoted refer to Christ, not the pope. I have read the bible and I follow Christ. I don't see how the verses you've quoted refer to the pope...
@futuregrrl Though the east and west split, we protestants have been dealing a lot with Roman Catholics in the last 500 years. Since the 1054 schism, The Roman Catholics have become quite a bit more absurd in trying to defend the claims for the Pope. It's no use arguing with them, they see what they want to see in the verses. We western thinking Christians might hold views you guys consider heretical, but I atleast have the honesty to try to be fair to Scripture- Roman Catholics sadly do not
This embodies Christianity as a whole not just Orthodox. I am a Roman Catholic we believe in the same God, we are Christians, but the original Church separated and I would like to see it mended, under a single Rock a man of great faith. A pope a patriarch. Those who disdain the vicar of christ have not read the bible for example Colossians 1.18, Colossians 2.19, Ephesians 4.15 and Ephesians 5.23
@Adonomos I'm an Evangelical Protestant, yet have found my views to change over time from a simple Jesus loving faith, to exactly what is described in this video. The Roman Catholic Church challenged me a long time ago to seek out the true church. I could never buy into some of her doctrines though. If I were to submit to a more traditional church, it would have to be the Eastern Orthodox, not the Roman Catholic. Though I still have reservations.
@Adonomos Historically speaking, you're right- Eastern Orthodox seems to have the most continuity. As for us protestants, we're rooted in less than 500 years of existence. Though having a protestant mindset about some things still, I look at ecclesiology a bit different than either the Roman Catholics or the Eastern Orthodox. I don't know what you mean by "heaved up", but be careful of judgment upon us, for even though the Pharisees judged Jesus, he still talked to Samaritans
@csoul7811 Yes Jesus did speak to the Samaritans as he did to the gentiles as well. This only confirms that Christ came for all people but he came with One Truth, which was established upon the Church!
if I am delayed, you will know how people ought to conduct themselves in God's household, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and foundation of the truth.
So how many pillars are there? So if there not with us there against us! So what ever came after is a division.
@Adonomos My point on the Samaritans is only to point out that you should be careful of how much pride you take in being orthodox to the point of looking at other traditions as somehow devilish. Salvation came from the Jews yes, and the samaritan woman at the well in Sichar was still given the honor of speaking with our Lord, and not only that, but to spread the news among her people (considered inferior) that Jesus was the Messiah. Though Samaritan, she was still "for us" (apostolic)
Your choice to become Orthodox does not rest on me but upon the calling of your heart.
Why are you offended by facts? It's not what I think, it's what can be proven.
Sorry, if I come across as argumentative not my attention to do so but there is limited space on the tube so I rather keep it specific. Really what would you rather hear? Oh yes please do come, we have biscuits and refreshments and lots of fun and we are really nice people.
@Adonomos lol you have a point- and i'm not really offended- I guess last night when i wrote my comments i was tired- edgy, but I should be able to handle facts.
@Adonomos Furthermore, you speak dogmatically of division as a vice. Dude, you realize Jesus came not to bring peace, but a sword? Division isn't a vice, and unity is only a virture if what is being united around is truth. But unity around truth doesn't equal uniformity around it. Just as there are different offices in the Church mention by Paul, and just as there are different forms of the ONE Gospel spoken about among the four Gospel narratives, so the Church is one body, but different..
Those who follow that Truth are united as one with Christ not divided. The Sword cuts through the lie. Many who hear the Truth get upset and cause problems, that's why there is no peace.
There is One Body. Does any one of your bodily members operate without the other knowing?
As there is One Body, One Truth, One Church, One Faith, One Baptism, One Lord Jesus Christ.
The people and places may be different but the Truth Remains the same and united as One.
@Adonomos ... members. You do realize that historically speaking, some Churches/parishes sprout up without having apostolic initiation, save mere Gospel preaching? The only difference between Protestants and Orthodox concerning origination is spans of centuries, yet many parishes in both Church traditions started out independently in that local area and usually due to hearing the good news. We Protestants are Westerners, our mother is Rome, and she was once a patriarch in union with you guys
The Apostles went out and preached the Word and laid hands on those who were to continue on.
There are many differences between Orthodox and Protestants.
Rome shares our rich heritage but ceased to continue with us, the moment they started adding doctrine that what never taught. Protestants started changing things, they should never have changed.
Yes, I do understand your point regarding the Samaritans woman but it was Christ himself that ministered to her and the people.
@Adonomos but as for Protestant changes- well some things I could see why you disagree on. But siome changes I think were needed. Even Rome herself knew she needed to change- hence the Catholic reformation. The west had become corrupt- changes were needed. One of the changes the Protestants gave- looking at Scripture more historically/exegetically is a good change- it respects the written tradition and speaks out against papal abuses on the text
@csoul7811 In fairness my friend, the Orthodox rebuked Rome centuries before Martin Luther did. Because the Orthodox believe we can not change what we have been taught Apostolically.
If the change is not back to the way it was, then its a change in the wrong direction.
the Apostles are our Pillars and the Holy Bible is from the Church for the Church, not to create new churches through personal interpretations.
The problem is Protestants threw it all out and point the finger at us as wrong.
@csoul7811 Lastly, Did you ever think that maybe I might someday become Orthodox? But if I were to do so, it won't be because I listened to all the comments you made on this specific comment page, simply because you seem more concerned with telling others that the Eastern Orthodox are the only true Church than anything else. I sense a tone of argumentative pride rather than thankful love that blesses others and thereby brings them into the fullness of Truth. Or I'm reading you totally wrong
I would not like to think I am driven by pride but by the facts that have been presented to me. Did not the Church enter into pagan lands and preach to pagans?
While Christ walked the earth he ministered to all on the day of Pentecost, which we consider the birthday of the Church the Apostles were empowered to continue in Christ through the Holy Spirit.
The Holy Spirit is the Spirit of Truth and Unity! Yes, Jesus did come wit a Sword the Sword of Truth.
This is a wonderful vid...what most in the west don't realise is that the east doesn't believe in the Substitution or Blood Atonement Theory. They say they believe in God's grace and free gift of Salvation, but how is it free if it was paid for by human sacrifice, which is pagan and just like the Mayan sacrifices of men to appease the wrath of the gods? God trampled down Death by Death, his Crucifixion was a rescue mission....
@magicsXfive the Bible does not preach a form of blood atonement or substitution at all. He shed his blood for us, yes, that is, he gave his life for us, but no where does it say he shed his blood to appease an angry God. That is the product of misguided theology of Augustine, Anselm, Luther and Calvin. As I said it is pagan, akin to the Mayans and even throwing virgins into a volcano to appease the volcano gods. God became man so man can become like God, Theosis.
@XDragasesX We constantly see in scripture the phrase "Gift of grace" How do you pay for a gift? Its unmerrited, and unearnable. The payment of sins by Christ, is a gift to those who will accept Jesus and repent of their sins and walk with him. He paid for your free gift. And he offers it to you.
@XDragasesX It is important to think of these things. I believe God came down in the flesh not necessarily to offer himself as a sacrifice, rather He picked a time to come down and minister to His creation, knowing that in the future it would have the most fruitful results (seeing as His timing is perfect), and that it may have not been His will that killed Jesus, but man's will. He did not set up Jesus to be killed, rather He saw that it was to happen and decided to not let the woe pass.
@XDragasesX So, I don't believe Jesus died for my sins, I believe He came here to minister to me and help us and that God is Himself loving and merciful with or without bloodshed. However, he knew the story of Jesus would impact many in the future, and so out of His love, He suffered for us and let us have our way with Him. In the bible, Jesus never himself said He was a sacrifice for their sins, they likely took this from their traditions of sacrificing animals to God, which is indeed pagan.
But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was upon him, and by his wounds we are healed.
I form the light, and create darkness: I make peace, and create evil: I the LORD do all these things. ISA45:7. Also, Amos 3:6. Dsn't ths indicate tht everything is caused by God? If its God's intention, you'll fall away at some point but God will cause you to come back at some point b4 you die or not. If you dn't you didn't have salvation; you were never meant to have it. So, if God is responsible for good/evil, how can WE do something to affect salvation if he wants/doesn't wnt us to have it?
Yes, God is the Author of all things, I also agree God call's out his people from this world but he does not force them out but we must be willing to follow!
You CAN'T CHOOSE to have faith. Faith is a work of God; not us. EPH2:1-5=we are all DEAD in trespasses/sins; its God who saves us by grace. 1COR2:14=NO1 naturally accepts God's Spirit. We cn't have faith/belief until we are saved 1st. EZE 26:26-27=God gives you a new heart and HIS Spirit and THEN you are able to walk in his statues. And if by grace, then [is it] no more of works: otherwise grace is no more grace.......ROM11:6 We play NO, I repeat, NO PART in the initiation of salvation. 100%God
It is true all things come to us by Christ and Christ is our doorway to Eternal Life.
We must be Born Again into Christ this saves us as long as we stay faithful to Christ.
The doctrine of once saved always saved is a demonic doctrine. When God told Adam do not eat of this tree or you will die, what did satan say? No you wont die!
@Adonomos Adam was under the covenant of the Law. We're under the covenant of salvation through the blood of Jesus=The Word.JOHN1:1;14. The Elect were chosen before the foundation of the world EPH1:3-5;2TIM1:9. Salvation is purely a GIFT by the GRACE of God EPH2:8-9. You are saying Jesus'/God's/the Bible's doctrine is Demonic? WOW! If we are saved, and sin, which WE WILL(read GAL5:17) we will be chastened, but not w/the world(hell).1COR11:32. Salvation is NOT a loan. It is an everlasting gift
@Adonomos A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you an heart of flesh. And I will put my spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes, and ye shall keep my judgments, and do [them]. EZE 36:26-27. Notice how it says God's spirit CAUSES you to walk in his statutes and do them. HE CAUSES YOU. If a gift is conditional, its NOT a gift because you have to do something to get/keep it.
My brothers, if one of you should wander from the truth and someone should bring him back, remember this: Whoever turns a sinner from the error of his way will save him from death and cover over a multitude of sins.
Please interpret?
I also noticed you disregarded Adam who had Eternal Life and lost it and the Prodigal Son Who had Life, lost it and it was given back to him.
@Adonomos whn you sin and are saved, you're STILL saved because ALL your sins have been paid for by Jesus. John17:9 explains Jesus ONLY prays for the ones given to Him,Elect(inludes Adam) He bought ALL their sins. Its ntt your Spirit tht sins once you're saved, bt rather your flesh. GAL is an excellent read to explain ths. For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would. GAL5:17
Go, and sin no more. see we are Commanded to sin no more. I know your not promoting sin in Christ but you reject the Commandment to follow Christ. The Gift is what we can not get ourselves!
Whoever serves me must follow me; and where I am, my servant also will be. My Father will honor the one who serves me. We are commanded to follow, this is conditional.
Branches were broken off so that I might be grafted in.” Quite right, they were broken off for their unbelief, but you stand by your faith. Do not be conceited, but fear; for if God did not spare the natural branches, He will not spare you, either. Behold then the kindness and severity of God; to those who fell, severity, but to you, God’s kindness, if you continue in His kindness; otherwise you also will be cut off.
@Adonomos nt trying to argue, jst pointing out wht grace truly is. I'm pulling scripture out to shw it is grace and you CAN'T lose it if GOD wants to save you.God's salvation is for HIS purpose, NOT your desire Bt your belief= it really isn't grace because God will take it away if you're "bad." That's not so. Why? Gifts CAN'T be taken away. ex if you go to divorce court, you CAN'T take back gifts because of the bad behavior of the other person. But, you CAN take back conditional possessions.
@SuperDonster You use divourse court as an example if you are not faithful in marriage?
The same with Christ does he not call us to be faithful?
A New Heart feels the conviction, a harden heart feels nothing!
A New Spirit rejects the desires of the flesh to do the will of God not the will of the flesh that is your own will that leads you astray and makes one fall away!
Love thy God with ALL your Heart, with All your Soul, with ALL your Mind with All your Might. Why are we told to do this?
2 Peter 3:17 Therefore, dear friends, since you already know this, be on your guard so that you may not be carried away by the error of lawless men and fall from your secure position.
1 Peter 1:16 for it is written: "Be holy, because I am holy."
If We have no involvement why are we commanded to be Holy?
@Adonomos another thing that I failed to mention about Adam pertaining to HIS covenant and eternal life. Adam was a DIRECT creation of God; research "Benei Ha'Elohim" in the OT . We are NOT direct creations of God the same way Adam is/was( we are NOT Benei Ha'Elohim).
@SuperDonster After all that was posted including the private messages. This is not a strong response and really does not address your point.
Fact is Adam had Eternal Life and lost it, we inherit what Adam established and we are shown by God that even if we fall away from God, Through His Love He will provide away to restore us back.
@Adonomos I do agree with you that we can fall away; as in sin again. Paul discusses this and explains that it is because we still have flesh. He says the flesh and spirit are at enmity with e/o. I guess what I'm saying= We will always sin; God knows this. However, when God saves a person, they are already given the security through Christ that they have eternal life, even though they are still alive in the flesh. God will cause them to repent before they die and the salvation will not be lost.
Church is a man—made invention. There's nothing godly about playing church. Some call it sectarianism (religion). It's mammon worship. Hebrews 9: 11—12 But Christ being come an high priest of good things to come, by a greater and more perfect tabernacle, not made with hands, that is to say, not of this building (creation); Neither by the blood of goats and calves, but by his own blood he entered in once into the holy place, having obtained eternal redemption for us.
The soundtrack behind this video was recorded by the Nuns of St. Paisius Serbian Orthodox Monastery in Safford, AZ. It is one of the songs on the album called A Treasury of Spiritual Songs. Its called "Do you know..."
Why don't you guys use logic and reasoning and quit being a bunch of fucking morons? There is no God. A bunch of really smart motherfuckers invented God to keep you in line. It's a new age. Use common fucking sense!
Please everyone...you can sit and argue the faith handed down by the apostles and the heresies that have evolved til the days end....but if u do not live it, then how will stand before the throne of Christ when he asks on the dread judgement day if u fed the hungry and clothed the naked...we all hope to be on the right hand of Christ so we may eternally glorify God in heaven.
"Orthodoxy" is a bunch of hocus pocus. Read your Bibles, people. Salvation is by grace through faith in Jesus Christ and there's not a thing you have in you that can enhance it. You must be born again.
@VyckRo Ephesians 2:8 was written in the first century under inspiration of the Holy Spirit. I don't believe that there won't be evidence if there is conversion (2Cor 5:17,Gal 5:) but it's not by any works that you can do that saves. Repentance for sin isn't a work but seems to be required for salvation, Luke 13:3,5.
But if I tary long, that thou mayest know how thou oughtest to behaue thy selfe in the House of God, which is the CHURCH of the liuing God, the pillar and ground of the TRUETF
@VyckRo I don't disagree about Christian's needing to belong to local assembly of believers. (Heb 10:25) But OC preaches a false gospel. According to Orthodox teaching, baptism (even of infants) is the means whereby an individual is born into Christ and becomes a Christian. This false gospel is cited from one of their own publications. (One Church, Russian Orthodox Church, 1981).
@VyckRo: The doctrine existed in the Orthodox and for the most part of the Catholic Church since the Body of Christ was begotten hypostatically. I suggest you read the writing of the Early Church Fathers.
@VyckRo Actually, deeds are nothing without faith, not the other way around.Did Jesus say ''He Who believes in me and does a lot of good works will be saved'' or ''Whosever believes in me shall be saved''.There is no adding to the gift of God,no adding to the perfect work of Jesus.
I urge you, brothers, to watch out for those who cause divisions and put obstacles in your way that are contrary to the teaching you have learned. Keep away from them.
@Adonomos I am an orthodox Christian, but i dont agree with all the doctrines of orthodox Church.Like salvation being the life long process, maybe justification is but salvation i think is an instant experience.
@Adonomos No.Because if u are saved today and u go to hinduism it shows that u werent saved to begin with, why would u go back to hinduism? It really is an instant experience..salvation is simple gift,u cant work for it,u can only show respect and try to keep commandments, but that isnt what saves u.Jesus saves only and it is a gift,if u have one sin u are already going to hell if u die without Jesus,So its stupid to say that our works contribute to our salvation.Only for our rewards..
@MrUrosSrb You raise two points, if one did revert or convert to Hinduism after accepting Christ, then in the process he is deemed unsaved. Your right but then, when he thought he was saved he wasn't and he was not instantly saved after accepting Christ.
you state "So its stupid to say that our works contribute to our salvation.Only for our rewards.."
Would Noah and his family be saved if they did not work to build the Ark?
If you like you can explain the Sheep and the goats?
@VyckRo Salvation is by grace but the Protestants don' understand what this "grace" is and so they are not truly saved. Ephesians 2 says, "By grace you have been saved through faith, not of works"... It is by grace, but this grace is something dynamic and vivifying, it is the grace of the Holy Spirit. A person can never be assured of salvation unless his body has become a temple of the holy spirit and he has been totally transformed by grace.
@Adonomos Heart vs mind or head faith.. HUGE difference. About am being saved: I was saved from the very beginning. God knew his children from the beginning of time. There was a day, 37 years ago ( !! ) that I came to believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and trusted him completely as my Lord and Saviour. I am 100% certain I will be in heaven after I die. I base this on the finished work of Christ and on God's promises to them that believe.
@Occupy4now We are born again in Christ at baptism. Then we must live the Christian life through God's grace. And yes, salvation is through faith. No Orthodox believer would deny this. But faith must be tied to action or it is " dead" (James 2--20) or without significance--God calls us to him and we either accept or reject this invitation...YOU should read your Bible. Christ calls us to action...I was hungry, ..(Matt 25--31-46). We are called to love others through our deeds.
If you love God, you will obey his commands. If you haven't been baptized for the remission of sins, you haven't done everything God has told us to do to be saved. No, it's not just a work, it's obeying Him.
@martalog121 Saveing us means that Jesus give us a chance to reach in Haven by following Him.'Cause before Jesus camed on Earth,no one was going in Haven even if those people were good because of the sin of Adam and Eva.The people were goin in hell but if hey were good they weren't sufering the torments of hell.Tey were jus staing there in the darck.Hope I helped you;)
Hell is not a creation of God. It is a creation of man. C.S. Lewis, whom many Eastern Orthodox would like to claim as their own, said that "...the gates of hell are locked from the inside." People are separate from God in nature, in perfection, and in dying. Jesus died to change the nature of man, to perfect him, and save him from death. To be in consonance with the divine is heaven; anything else is hell. Hell is of our own creation, made of our own obsessions and devices.
what C.S Lewis said is not in accord with what God said in the Scripture.(Matth. 25:41),Lewis taught lot of heresies.
Jesus died to PAY for our sins NOT to "change the nature of men"(1Cort. 15:3),perfection of HIS people will take place in Heaven,so we understand each other.
i'm still waiting for an answer to :" if Jesus Christ died for "all of mankind"(min. 0:21) why is there a Hell?"
@martalog121 Matthew 25:41 proves nothing other than your attempts to sound smart by putting in lots of references.
If anything it is your own idea of penal substitution that is heretical. The idea didn't appear until the eleventh or twelfth century. It is completely absent from all the thought of the early church. No matter how many verses you cite in opposition, the writings of those churches planted by Paul indicate that he didn't mean what you're trying to make him mean.
@martalog121 Christ did not die to substitute the wrath of God. God died to save mankind from sin and death.
Under this view, which was the view of the early church fathers and was found in the writings of those who learned from Paul, Hell is the result of people refusing the offered ransom, and choosing to stay chained in sin and death rather than choose to accept redemption and life.
Where did you get the chanting track which is playing in the background to your video. I love it very much and would love to have a copy. Great video. Blessings to you.
First of all, thanks for the beautiful Video! As a protestant Christian I have a question: Don't you think, that it woul be right to say, that you are already saved - on the basis of the merits of Christ alone? And that it's "just" your process of theosis or sanctification which is still in progress (and will be unto the moment of final glorification)? @TimotheosCauvin To be saved literally means to be saved from Hell. Do you believe that Ananias went directly to heaven after God struck him dead for obeying the Devil after receiving the Holy Ghost?
I mispoke, I don't know where Ananias will be, from the Scripture account it is apparent he died commiting sin...my point is that salvation is a restoration of the relationship before the fall, which mean a person would be saved from hell, death and the grave...of which Christ accomplished for us by his life, death and ressurection....which is Gospel of Jesus Christ, I don't know the destination of Ananias that is up to God but I would not want have been in his shoes lying 2 God

@USSRangel85 The video is mistaken. The scripture and the fathers say very clearly that its the OBLIGATION of all Christians to spread the gospel to all nations. Christ commanded such so for you to say thats its not an obligation is wrong.
We should not do it as a duty or an obligation it should be done by a true loving heart that is led by the Holy Spirit. One should do because he loves to do it. Not because of self motives. For then you do it for what you can get. Not because you want to unconditionally.
True Love moves without thought. Love is another one of those mysteries of God.
Why when one is in Love, he does the things he does? Mystery!
While I see your point, I have to agree with AegeanKing on this one. We are 'commissioned', that is **Commanded** to spread the Gospel throughout the world. If we love Christ we will obey his teachings as a servant obeys his master.
Yes but if we do it because of duty or for what we will get for it. Then it is not done in the Spirit of Love.
In Loving the Truth we put it to work in our own live's first. This is the Plank in our eye. Remember that we must be led by the Holy Spirit in all things. Many read the Holy Scriptures, believe they know it, then go and preach heresies.

@truelightwitness The first council of constantinople, when adding the third section to the Nicene creed, included in its cannons an anathema to anyone who would alter the creed after that point. Therefore, anyone who adds the filioque clause is anathematized, including the popes and western bishops.
Bakmoon 4 months ago
@truelightwitness You Sedevacantists are not genuine Catholics. According to Catholics, Apostolic Succession itself resides in the person of the Pope, who is Christ's Vicar on earth. When you separate yourself from Rome, you separate yourself from the very source of Catholic authenticity. You have no foundation on which to justify your schism from the Mother Church of Rome, especially when such separation is forbidden by the Pope himself, the very criterion of authenticity.
magnus56j 4 months ago
@magnus56j We're not separating ourselves from Rome, we're realizing that the See is vacant because as Catholic dogma teaches us, heretics are outside the church. He who is outside cant be the head. It's precisely because I hold firm to the infallible teaching of the Church, that I reject the anti-Catholic, anti-Christ frauds for what they are, which is anti-POPES! Being Catholic doesn't mean following new gospel taught by heretics claimig to be popes. Wake up. visit vaticancatholic(dot)com
truelightwitness 3 months ago
@truelightwitness First of all, an anti-Pope was a person who opposed a legitamately elected pope and then claimed themself to be pope. Pope John Paul II and Pope Benedict XVI are legitamtely elected popes, not anti-Popes. Therefore, you certainly are separating yourself from Rome. If you think the pope is a heretic, then what do you plan on doing to do to excommunicate him? How are you going to put in a "valid" pope in the chair? Under what authority can you replace the current pope?
magnus56j 3 months ago
@truelightwitness Sedevacantists recognize the validity of the dogmatic definition of "papal infallibility." Orthodox Christians find it ridiculous that only one person can claim the Holy Spirit. How can one person inherit the faith? I believe in the infallibility of the Church itself which the gates of hell cannot prevail against, not in the infallibility of one person. Orthodox are not the ones who changed the Mass over and over or invented new doctrines such as papal infallibility.
magnus56j 3 months ago
What exactly is the formula or reasoning that the "orthodox" schismatics use to say that one council is false and another is true? It's not the number of bishops present........can anyone answer that? seems like an illogical belief system
truelightwitness 3 months ago
@truelightwitness Umm, I think you are misinterpreting the Orthodox viewpoint. Orthodoxy believes infallibility rests in the Church, and since the First Seven Ecumenical Councils meet the condition that the council was accepted by the WHOLE church, an therefore is infallible. That it was called together legally is also important a factor. It is also important to note that doctrines were never invented at councils. The councils were mainly used to combat heresy. Orthodoxy never changed the faith.
magnus56j 3 months ago
@truelightwitness true! it is not the number of bishops present that matters, but their concordance. when your bishops decided to make decisions over the heads of our bishops, they broke away. we did not invent indulgendce or purgatory, we did not go on crusades and we did burn innocent women because their hair was red.... what is so illogical about that?

@truelightwitness The Spirit is sent into the world, within time, by the Son; but, as regards his origin within the eternal life of the Trinity, the Spirit eternally proceeds from the Father alone.

We western thinking Christians might hold views you guys consider heretical, but I atleast have the honesty to try to be fair to Scripture- Roman Catholics sadly do not
csoul7811 6 months ago
This embodies Christianity as a whole not just Orthodox. I am a Roman Catholic we believe in the same God, we are Christians, but the original Church separated and I would like to see it mended, under a single Rock a man of great faith. A pope a patriarch. Those who disdain the vicar of christ have not read the bible for example Colossians 1.18, Colossians 2.19, Ephesians 4.15 and Ephesians 5.23

The mend can only happen when Rome drops its added doctrines, that were never taught from the beginning.
By doing so, returns back to the Original Church that continues to teach the Original Way.
Adonomos 6 months ago
@Adonomos I'm an Evangelical Protestant, yet have found my views to change over time from a simple Jesus loving faith, to exactly what is described in this video. The Roman Catholic Church challenged me a long time ago to seek out the true church. I could never buy into some of her doctrines though. If I were to submit to a more traditional church, it would have to be the Eastern Orthodox, not the Roman Catholic. Though I still have reservations.
csoul7811 6 months ago
@csoul7811 To me there is only One Church that has remained the same for 2000yrs.
All the rest are heaved up.
The fact is look at the day they were founded?
Adonomos 6 months ago
@Adonomos Historically speaking, you're right- Eastern Orthodox seems to have the most continuity. As for us protestants, we're rooted in less than 500 years of existence. Though having a protestant mindset about some things still, I look at ecclesiology a bit different than either the Roman Catholics or the Eastern Orthodox. I don't know what you mean by "heaved up", but be careful of judgment upon us, for even though the Pharisees judged Jesus, he still talked to Samaritans
csoul7811 6 months ago
@csoul7811 Yes Jesus did speak to the Samaritans as he did to the gentiles as well. This only confirms that Christ came for all people but he came with One Truth, which was established upon the Church!
1 Timothy 3:15
if I am delayed, you will know how people ought to conduct themselves in God's household, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and foundation of the truth.
So how many pillars are there? So if there not with us there against us! So what ever came after is a division.
Adonomos 6 months ago

@Adonomos lol you have a point- and i'm not really offended- I guess last night when i wrote my comments i was tired- edgy, but I should be able to handle facts.
csoul7811 6 months ago
@Adonomos Furthermore, you speak dogmatically of division as a vice. Dude, you realize Jesus came not to bring peace, but a sword? Division isn't a vice, and unity is only a virture if what is being united around is truth. But unity around truth doesn't equal uniformity around it. Just as there are different offices in the Church mention by Paul, and just as there are different forms of the ONE Gospel spoken about among the four Gospel narratives, so the Church is one body, but different..
csoul7811 6 months ago
@csoul7811 (3)
Adonomos 6 months ago
@Adonomos ... members. You do realize that historically speaking, some Churches/parishes sprout up without having apostolic initiation, save mere Gospel preaching? The only difference between Protestants and Orthodox concerning origination is spans of centuries, yet many parishes in both Church traditions started out independently in that local area and usually due to hearing the good news. We Protestants are Westerners, our mother is Rome, and she was once a patriarch in union with you guys
csoul7811 6 months ago
@csoul7811 (1)
Adonomos 6 months ago
@Adonomos but as for Protestant changes- well some things I could see why you disagree on. But siome changes I think were needed. Even Rome herself knew she needed to change- hence the Catholic reformation. The west had become corrupt- changes were needed. One of the changes the Protestants gave- looking at Scripture more historically/exegetically is a good change- it respects the written tradition and speaks out against papal abuses on the text
csoul7811 6 months ago
@csoul7811 In fairness my friend, the Orthodox rebuked Rome centuries before Martin Luther did. Because the Orthodox believe we can not change what we have been taught Apostolically.
If the change is not back to the way it was, then its a change in the wrong direction.
the Apostles are our Pillars and the Holy Bible is from the Church for the Church, not to create new churches through personal interpretations.
The problem is Protestants threw it all out and point the finger at us as wrong.
Adonomos 6 months ago
@csoul7811 Lastly, Did you ever think that maybe I might someday become Orthodox? But if I were to do so, it won't be because I listened to all the comments you made on this specific comment page, simply because you seem more concerned with telling others that the Eastern Orthodox are the only true Church than anything else. I sense a tone of argumentative pride rather than thankful love that blesses others and thereby brings them into the fullness of Truth. Or I'm reading you totally wrong
csoul7811 6 months ago
@csoul7811 (2)
Adonomos 6 months ago
This is a wonderful vid...what most in the west don't realise is that the east doesn't believe in the Substitution or Blood Atonement Theory. They say they believe in God's grace and free gift of Salvation, but how is it free if it was paid for by human sacrifice, which is pagan and just like the Mayan sacrifices of men to appease the wrath of the gods? God trampled down Death by Death, his Crucifixion was a rescue mission....
XDragasesX 8 months ago 10
@XDragasesX The Bible preaches a form of blood atonement and substitution, one must just be careful not to take it farther than it should.
magicsXfive 3 months ago
@magicsXfive the Bible does not preach a form of blood atonement or substitution at all. He shed his blood for us, yes, that is, he gave his life for us, but no where does it say he shed his blood to appease an angry God. That is the product of misguided theology of Augustine, Anselm, Luther and Calvin. As I said it is pagan, akin to the Mayans and even throwing virgins into a volcano to appease the volcano gods. God became man so man can become like God, Theosis.
XDragasesX 3 months ago
@XDragasesX That is SATISFACTION, you are talking about, not substitution or blood atonement.
Romans says: "...whom God displayed publicly as an expiation in His blood through faith." Sounds like blood atonement to me.
magicsXfive 3 months ago
@XDragasesX We constantly see in scripture the phrase "Gift of grace" How do you pay for a gift? Its unmerrited, and unearnable. The payment of sins by Christ, is a gift to those who will accept Jesus and repent of their sins and walk with him. He paid for your free gift. And he offers it to you.
believerintheword 3 months ago
@XDragasesX It is important to think of these things. I believe God came down in the flesh not necessarily to offer himself as a sacrifice, rather He picked a time to come down and minister to His creation, knowing that in the future it would have the most fruitful results (seeing as His timing is perfect), and that it may have not been His will that killed Jesus, but man's will. He did not set up Jesus to be killed, rather He saw that it was to happen and decided to not let the woe pass.
calabiyauasaurus 3 months ago
@XDragasesX So, I don't believe Jesus died for my sins, I believe He came here to minister to me and help us and that God is Himself loving and merciful with or without bloodshed. However, he knew the story of Jesus would impact many in the future, and so out of His love, He suffered for us and let us have our way with Him. In the bible, Jesus never himself said He was a sacrifice for their sins, they likely took this from their traditions of sacrificing animals to God, which is indeed pagan.

@Adonomos nt trying to argue, jst pointing out wht grace truly is.
SuperDonster 8 months ago
@SuperDonster After all that was posted including the private messages. This is not a strong response and really does not address your point.
Fact is Adam had Eternal Life and lost it, we inherit what Adam established and we are shown by God that even if we fall away from God, Through His Love He will provide away to restore us back.
Christ is that restoration.
God Bless
Adonomos 8 months ago

"Orthodoxy" is a bunch of hocus pocus. Read your Bibles, people. Salvation is by grace through faith in Jesus Christ and there's not a thing you have in you that can enhance it. You must be born again.
Occupy4now 11 months ago
@Occupy4now
"Salvation is by grace"
is a Protestant doctrine, occurred after 1400 years from Jesus!
Faith without deeds is nothing!!
VyckRo 11 months ago 5
@VyckRo Ephesians 2:8 was written in the first century under inspiration of the Holy Spirit. I don't believe that there won't be evidence if there is conversion (2Cor 5:17,Gal 5:) but it's not by any works that you can do that saves. Repentance for sin isn't a work but seems to be required for salvation, Luke 13:3,5.
Occupy4now 11 months ago
@Occupy4now
You suggesting a conclusion that do not result from the premises! do you believe that an Orthodox, believe that salvation comes without Jesus?
Speaking of the Bible:
The original church, mentioned in the Bible, in the Acts 11:26-27
The church Authority
1Timothy 3:15
But if I tary long, that thou mayest know how thou oughtest to behaue thy selfe in the House of God, which is the CHURCH of the liuing God, the pillar and ground of the TRUETF
or
Ephesians 3:10
VyckRo 11 months ago
@VyckRo I don't disagree about Christian's needing to belong to local assembly of believers. (Heb 10:25) But OC preaches a false gospel. According to Orthodox teaching, baptism (even of infants) is the means whereby an individual is born into Christ and becomes a Christian. This false gospel is cited from one of their own publications. (One Church, Russian Orthodox Church, 1981).
Occupy4now 11 months ago
@VyckRo: The doctrine existed in the Orthodox and for the most part of the Catholic Church since the Body of Christ was begotten hypostatically. I suggest you read the writing of the Early Church Fathers.
dimic 5 months ago
@VyckRo Salvation by Grace is a thoroughly Orthodox doctrine.
ChristianEastern 5 months ago
@VyckRo Actually, deeds are nothing without faith, not the other way around.Did Jesus say ''He Who believes in me and does a lot of good works will be saved'' or ''Whosever believes in me shall be saved''.There is no adding to the gift of God,no adding to the perfect work of Jesus.

John 10:37

@Adonomos I am an orthodox Christian, but i dont agree with all the doctrines of orthodox Church.Like salvation being the life long process, maybe justification is but salvation i think is an instant experience.
MrUrosSrb 4 months ago
@MrUrosSrb Instant Salvation? If you died straight after, like the thief on the cross. I would agree!
for others they have to continue in there Faith until they are called.
The problem with instant salvation.
Is if today I say I'm saved and tomorrow I accept Hinduism am I still saved?
Adonomos 4 months ago
@Adonomos No.Because if u are saved today and u go to hinduism it shows that u werent saved to begin with, why would u go back to hinduism? It really is an instant experience..salvation is simple gift,u cant work for it,u can only show respect and try to keep commandments, but that isnt what saves u.Jesus saves only and it is a gift,if u have one sin u are already going to hell if u die without Jesus,So its stupid to say that our works contribute to our salvation.Only for our rewards..
MrUrosSrb 4 months ago
@MrUrosSrb You raise two points, if one did revert or convert to Hinduism after accepting Christ, then in the process he is deemed unsaved. Your right but then, when he thought he was saved he wasn't and he was not instantly saved after accepting Christ.
you state "So its stupid to say that our works contribute to our salvation.Only for our rewards.."
Would Noah and his family be saved if they did not work to build the Ark?
If you like you can explain the Sheep and the goats?
Adonomos 4 months ago
@VyckRo Salvation is by grace but the Protestants don' understand what this "grace" is and so they are not truly saved. Ephesians 2 says, "By grace you have been saved through faith, not of works"... It is by grace, but this grace is something dynamic and vivifying, it is the grace of the Holy Spirit. A person can never be assured of salvation unless his body has become a temple of the holy spirit and he has been totally transformed by grace.
To become a "God-bearer" is to be truly saved.
mishakol129 4 months ago
@VyckRo Faith PRODUCES works. You cannot generate works in your own strength. That is the work of the Holy Spirit, which indwells all believers.

@skaha77 My friend, you seem to forget the word "STRUGGLE"!
No one here denies the Holy Spirit, who helps us to overcome the evil one.

Galatians 6:9

In this the separation comes from one who has mental faith, to one who has Faith from the Heart.
Adonomos 3 months ago
@Adonomos Heart vs mind or head faith.. HUGE difference. About am being saved: I was saved from the very beginning. God knew his children from the beginning of time. There was a day, 37 years ago ( !! ) that I came to believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and trusted him completely as my Lord and Saviour. I am 100% certain I will be in heaven after I die. I base this on the finished work of Christ and on God's promises to them that believe.

Being baptized and living the gospel through Jesus Christ gets you saved.
Especially, when you follow a book, written and documented by the church's teachings that you are viewing.
TheTraditioAeternus 11 months ago
@Occupy4now We are born again in Christ at baptism. Then we must live the Christian life through God's grace. And yes, salvation is through faith. No Orthodox believer would deny this. But faith must be tied to action or it is " dead" (James 2--20) or without significance--God calls us to him and we either accept or reject this invitation...YOU should read your Bible. Christ calls us to action...I was hungry, ..(Matt 25--31-46). We are called to love others through our deeds.

Jesus come to SEEK and to SAVE(Luke 19:10) HIS sheeps...HE did not come to "give us a chance".
We do not get saved by practicing good deeds(that is Aristotlelian philosophy).
my question still stands : "if Jesus Christ died for "all of mankind"(min. 0:21) why is there a Hell?"
martalog121 1 year ago
@martalog121
Genktarov 1 year ago
@Genktarov
what C.S Lewis said is not in accord with what God said in the Scripture.(Matth.
0:21) why is there a Hell?"
martalog121 1 year ago
@martalog121 Matthew 25:41 proves nothing other than your attempts to sound smart by putting in lots of references.
If anything it is your own idea of penal substitution that is heretical. The idea didn't appear until the eleventh or twelfth century. It is completely absent from all the thought of the early church. No matter how many verses you cite in opposition, the writings of those churches planted by Paul indicate that he didn't mean what you're trying to make him mean.
Genktarov 1 year ago
@Genktarov
Matth.25:41 talks about Hell being "prepared" by God so u were wrong in your post("Hell is not a creation of God")
"putting in lots of reff."?that's rich! i only gave u a verse
what are these "the writings of those churches planted by Paul" ?
the Bible uses the language of business or law when addressing Justification, the mystical approch that Ortxodoxy takes on Justification is mute.
very early on most of the church mixed Justification with Sanctification
martalog121 1 year ago
@martalog121 Christ did not die to substitute the wrath of God. God died to save mankind from sin and death.
Under this view, which was the view of the early church fathers and was found in the writings of those who learned from Paul, Hell is the result of people refusing the offered ransom, and choosing to stay chained in sin and death rather than choose to accept redemption and life.
Genktarov 1 year ago
@Genktarov " Christ did not die to substitute the wrath of God"
u're a bit confussing ...Jesus Christ DIED on the cross and in doing so HE PAID for the sins of His people
I see u still claim this nonbiblical idea that Hell is a result of "people refusing...etc" maybe u should actually read Mathh. 25:41?
Jesus come to SEEK and SAVE,not mearly to offer Salvation,HE actually SAVED His people !
martalog121 1 year ago
@martalog121
I see your trying your luck else where?
Christ died on the Cross so we maybe saved.
Those who are saved are those who abide in him. who humble there heart ask for mercy and receive mercy.
Who then go on to work out the Salvation with fear and trembling.
Loving God with all there heart, soul, mind and might and he who endures to the end shall be SAVED!

Like it says in Hebrews 10, 14: "For by a single offering he has perfected for all time those who are being sanctified." Thx and Pax tecum

@USSRangel85 The video is mistaken. The scripture and the fathers say very clearly that its the OBLIGATION of all Christians to spread the gospel to all nations. Christ commanded such so for you to say thats its not an obligation is wrong.
AegeanKing 10 months ago
@AegeanKing
Mystery!
Adonomos 10 months ago
@Adonomos
While I see your point, I have to agree with AegeanKing on this one. We are 'commissioned', that is **Commanded** to spread the Gospel throughout the world. If we love Christ we will obey his teachings as a servant obeys his master.
ChristianEastern 10 months ago
@ChristianEastern
