First, if I can bet it's all firemen who look at these videos. Why are you wasting your time on it? Sounds like you should be the one getting the real job.

Secondly, we don't call it 'hero' work. But even if somebody did call it that, they'd be correct. If it weren't for fire departments, casualties in fires/accidents would increase dramatically.

So my question to you is why are you attempting to degrade this profession? Obviously, you have no grounds to back up your claims. Get a life.

Some smaller departments don't have money or resources so they do stand outside pouring water on it, but many don't. We are extremely aggressive and always go in. It can be extremely dangerous. My fire department lost 99 firefighters on duty. We run about 175,000 calls every year.

Overpaid? HAHA Good one. $44k/year is nothing in the 3rd most expensive city in the country. I rent out a den in a rowhouse. Give me a break.

BUT running into a burning building that is falling down all around just to try and save a complete stranger IS! or hiking miles into the woods to dig trenches in scorching temperatures in hope that you can save a town from becoming ashes.

Fire Fighters put their own lives on the line for people they have never met. That is an unselfish sacrifice! In my book that qualifies them as a Hero.

Im a member and got on when I was 14 but after Kristopher Kangas god bless his sole passed away the bylaws and insurance regulations state that any member of a department cant respond to a call in an emergency manner I jus did catch the end of the law and couldent fight had to sit home and listin to the pager and wait but I can tell you if you have it in your heart keep it there. I dont see whats wrong with being on the station at 14 it gives more learning experience if you ask me
