johnjr, the recording where the hi-hat is louder (and it sounds better that way) when it is not accompanied by the bass drum is due to the cancellation of sound waves entering the mic. If you have ever recorded drums with a simple mic sometimes the sound disappears all together because the mic can't handle it. This analogous to what is going on here. furthermore varying your accents on the hi-hat are a great way to create dynamics in your playing.

LOL! Oh no? It came STRAIGHT off of the Led Zeppelin Definitive Boxset. No EQ whatsoever. All I did was splice the track to obtain the loop, duplicated it, lined up the waveforms, and exported it as a high quality waveform. The only thing that may have happened is a little added compression from YouTube, but that's it. If you didn't like it, then you don't like the original track.

This is not at all a decent one, the pause is obvious and awkward and it's in poor quality.
