  • Its Mustaine you idiots who think its James its blatantly not

  • Guys, seriously. Just shut the hell up about whose version is better. Both Kirk and Dave are respected guitarists, I personally favour Dave, but that's my opinion. Arguing isn't going to prove shit.

  • Kirk version is better.

  • @sersmoX Kirk's version? Kirk wrote the solo, (well Kirk and James) what other version is there? lol

  • kirks version is way better

  • I'm sorry but is the fact that Mustaine is present a means to justify this terrible performance?

  • Not trying to cause controversy on this video, but if we look at the FACTS. The fact IS Dave left Metallica and created (arguably) the greatest thrash metal band to co-exist alongside Metallica. This clearly proves Dave gave Metallica something, if you use common sense anyway. If you look at most of the riffs and actually PLAY guitar, you'd notice that many songs between Megadeth and Metallica are strikingly similar.

  • the solo is better than kirk's

  • @LoveThrashMetal666 That's funny because this is Kirk on the demo and he and James wrote this solo.

  • *Hetfield

  • Far too good a singer to be James Hetflied!

  • This is Dave Mustaine for god sake. Why does everyone say it's James! Are you all deaf!?

  • @ACPerformances obvious troll is obvious

  • @CalebePriester I'm just saying, it's clearly Dave.

  • @ACPerformances I'm just saying that you are clearly tone deaf if you in any way think this is Dave playing, or singing on this demo.

  • @mseals29 Okay dude. If you honestly think that's Hetfield singing you're crazy.

  • @mseals29 This is in a totally different key, totally different tuning, parts of the song, like 02:42 - 02:55 are slightly faster. The solos are different, part of the actual song from 03:30 is completely different to around 04:05. You're insane if you think there's no outside influence to this song. This song IS influenced by Dave Mustaine and that IS Dave singing.

  • metallica is hands down the better band and i dont mean any disrespect towards megadeth

  • @James74850 In YOUR opinion. Personally I prefer Megadeth, much better riffs and a lot more meaning to their songs.

  • I'm sorry but this is James Hetfield singing :| , it clearly sound like him even tough he wasn't singing to well

  • @markus74100 Your A fucking idiot!!

  • Lets be honest here, this sounds fucking awful. Metallica's version with Hetfield singing is brilliant and Megadeth are a bloody brilliant band now too. Mustaine and Metallica weren't meant to be together.

  • I like Mustaine and Hammett, any problem with that? Both of them are extraordinary

  • @MasterBijuu Except Kirk... lol

  • @theultimatexperience Kirk too, he's a awesome guitar player. You prefer Kirk Hammett playing guitar or Lil Wayne?

  • @mauroyza100 Do you realize Mark Zuckerberg "co-founded" Facebook? Co-wrote doesn't mean they all did the same amount of writing. Most the songs credited to Mustaine were originally almost entirely his, some from his previous band Panic, but Hetfield changed some of the lyrics and added a couple riffs after Mustaine was fired.

  • @krucken100 you're wrong i know the song... mustaine and hetfield wrote the riffs and the lyrics, but kirk wrote that amazing solo, cliff and lars colaborated too... almost every song mustaine "wrote" were at least with james and lars

  • @krucken100 LOL wow, I say to you what I said to the last guy, Know what you speak of BEFORE you speak so you wont sound like an idiot.

  • @mseals29 The only idiot here is you. You've totally missed the VAST differences in the solo parts in this demo, the spider chord at 1:58 which there's another video CLEARLY showing that Dave Mustaine introduced that to RTL. You've missed that this is different tuning and in a different key. The solos in this demo and the finished product are worlds apart. Oh, yeah and you missed the fact Mustaine is clearly singing on this demo. So, please take your lecture somewhere else.

  • @ACPerformances UM, That's why this is called a DEMO! Of course there are going to be differences in the demo and finished product. Yes Dave did come up with the spider chord, of which is not played the same, and is credited for it. That is all. RTL wasn't even a freakin song when Dave was in the band. I could sit here all day and school you kids on history but suggest you do your own research before you end up sounding like a complete IDIOT.

  • @mseals29 Dude, you make no sense. You're cussing this other dude, then you totally contradict yourself.

  • @mseals29 Ok, so if Dave ISN'T singing. Then who is? It sure as hell isn't James.

  • @ACPerformances How is it exactly that I am contradicting myself? It is in fact James singing. You have to realize that he was like 19 or 20 when this was made. Peoples voices can and do change. If you listen to the demo and the the record back to back you will be able to tell that it is James singing.

  • @mseals29 Hmm, idk dude, I mean you have to agree, this really doesn't sound like James at all.

  • @ACPerformances Yeas I will agree that in some parts of the song it sounds nothing like James at all but in others there is no question it is him.

  • @mseals29 I think it's best to agree to disagree. I'm certain this is Mustaine and we'll never agree on that. However was good debating with you.

  • @mseals29 Sorry dude, but I just listened to another demo, this time of Seek & Destroy, which was about a year before this demo. This isn't James singing on this track dude.

  • @ACPerformances it's james but the quality is not good and his voice sounds strangely ...

  • @ACPerformances FYI, The "spider chord" of which you speak was originally going to be the bridge for Leper Messiah until James thought it was a better fit for RTL. Also you show me where it is "FACT" that Dave is singing in the demo. I can show you FACT that "The Ride the Lightning demo was released on October 24, 1983. It was the group's first demo recording to feature lead guitarist Kirk Hammett" Explain how it is that Dave ended up singing when he was fired 04-11-83.

  • @mseals29 Dude. You're wrong, this is definitely Dave Mustaine. I can see what you mean, as the demo was released then. But this is definitely Dave singing.

  • @mseals29 BTW I don't care about the solo. Really. Go watch the videos of Metallica playing with Mustaine recently. Lars introduces the songs Mustaine is credited for as stuff he had brought to them. Ride the Lightning is no different.

  • lol org with kirk write history

  • ya,, dave used wah wah pedals, fucking idiots

  • THATS NOT MUSTAINE SUCKERS, ITS A LIVE VERSION WITH KIRK ALREADY

  • @thedeadone100 hammett plays very dirty

  • now say that Hammett wrote this solo! SHIT NOT TRUE, Mustaine wrote the best Metallica solo, period.

  • @mazingguitar Actually Hammett DID write the solo, along with James. Know what you speak of BEFORE you speak.

  • @mseals29 No, the original solo was written by Hetfield and Mustaine. You're talking complete crap.

  • @mazingguitar pfff,

    the best metallica solos are

the unforgiven solos (unforgiven 3 best fucking solo of this band)

    one and enter sandman

this ride the lightning version sucks :X

  • @mcgXaliasXbam Enter Sandman doesn't have that much of a cool solo and One is overrated. Creeping Death has a cool solo, Disposable Heroes, Hit The Lights, Battery, Blackened..

  • @mazingguitar best metallica solo is jump in te fire... by mustaine too XD

  • @mazingguitar you never heard the master of puppets solo ? the one solo ?

    all the unforgiven solos ?

    this isnt the best solo

  • @mcgXaliasXbam I have heard every single Metallica song and as far as I can remember for me Ride The Lightning solo is the best. Hit the Lights is also nice :)

  • @mazingguitar i heard every solo too

but this isn't the best solo

  • @mcgXaliasXbam everybody has his opinion :)

  • @mazingguitar you, him and 10 other are not everybody

  • If you think about it. Thrash wouldn't be invented if Dave Mustaine wasn't in Metallica. Dave's riffs gave Metallica's influence.

  • @NewGamer101 Cliff Burton's knowledge of music theory is what made Metallica. Any moron with a guitar can slap down some riffs. Without Cliff Metallica would have died after their second record.

  • @mseals29 The riff at 1:58 is clearly from Dave Mustaine, it's the Spider Chord he invented. So, why don't you know of what YOU speak.

  • Thank fuck they kicked him out, now we have 5 awesome metallica albums and 14 awesome megadeth albums.

  • @lolpop9908 13 actually, like the title of the last album.

  • @lolpop9908 Metallica actually have 9 awesome albums.

  • @lolpop9908 Megadeth only has 13 albums, and you call "Risk" a good album??

  • @lolpop9908 9 awesome metallica albums, 10 if you count garage inc

  • James sounds like the Scorpions singer in some parts

  • I hear a Wah pedal!

  • @mseals what the hell are u talking about " megadeth ti

  • Damn, if only Metallica gave Mustaine another chance, he would've stayed

  • i have nothing against dave but i think personally the version with kirk sounds better. idk if people hate on this or not but an opnion is an opinion. no opinion is ever wrong. LIVE WITH IT!

  • People need to get over this Megadeth Vs Metallica beef. The bands have clearly moved on, why cant the fans.

  • This is a solo by kirk hammett not dave mustaine.....you can easily tell the difference b/w kirk's & dave's solos......kirk's got the soul and dave's pure thrash technique

  • 3:28 still lightning fuckerz

  • Dave is playing ? You kidding me ? This is Kirk's vibrato, Kirk's penta scales, Kirk's licks... And, litsten to Kill'em all ! Yes Kirk can play so fast !

An stop saying that Dave is singing lol ! Dave never sang with Metallica ! If you knew Metallica, you would be able to recognize James' voice !!!

  • @Snavarr Kirk never played on Kill' em all !

  • @pkpheanix7 That's like claiming that Dorothy never went to Oz! Mustaine was kicked out just prior to recording the album. He may have contributed to the writing of 4 of the 10 songs, but he does NOT appear on the album! I'm old enough to have seen the band with Cliff, and I know the timeline. If you don't believe me, watch 'Metallica: Behind The Music' and hear THEM tell you. PS This demo was recorded about 6 months after Dave was kicked out - so no Mustaine here, I' afraid.

  • @rejapgee This could be Mustaine, this isn't the studio version.

  • @75SilentWarrior There's NO WAY it can be Mustaine. This is part of a 4 track demo featuring 'Creeping Death', a song co-written by Kirk Hammett! See where I'm going with this..? As an '80s tape trader I've owned a copy since time immemorial, but all you have to do is listen to the tracks yourself ('MetallicaCollection' has uploaded them in great quality - 'Ride..', 'Creeping Death', 'When Hell Freezes Over', 'Fight Fire With Fire') - FOUR songs, ONE session, NO Mustaine!

  • @rejapgee Lucky Bastard!!! Wish I was able to see Cliff. I was only 10 when he died. I bet that was an awesome show!

  • thats still james singing though right

  • @Coldretter yeah it's James. you can hear that ee-yah accent thing he puts on the end of his notes when he's singing.

  • Ride the Mustaine.

  • This is Kirk Hammet on lead guitar. The solo is pretty much identical to the version on the album. It's ridiculous to think that Hammet would have used a guitar solo by Mustaine on their 2nd album. Apart from a couple of riffs, Mustaine's influence was history at that stage and Hammet was doing his own thing.

  • That is definitively Dave cause Kirk would never play the solo that fast

  • If Dave hadn't been fired at the time then he would have been fired later. Either that or their personalities would have seriously clashed and Metallica would fallen apart. With Dave and James and Lars all in the same band it's too much creativity and attitude. Dave is much better in Megadeth. Metallica needs Cliff back.

  • @LetThereBeRock31 yeah your right and they do need cliff

  • Metallica failed drastically when Dave was fired. They lost one of the best guitarists they ever had. This song shows the ultimate credibility of Dave Mustaine, however, I consider this a Megadeth song, since Dave wrote it. The spider chord riff he developed is truly jaw dropping and one of the best thrash metal riffs I've ever heard. Mustaine is nothing but pure genius. I've never heard a more powerful, spine chilling, throat grasping experience about the electric chair than this song.

  • @Noah58 So he was ONE of their best guitarists? How many have they had? :I

  • @Tha2ndWimp

4 guitarists, if you include bassists too.

  • @Noah58 dave would have destroyed metallica if had been in the band any longer than he did and we would never have megadeth i pfeffer metallica but megadeth is still fucking awesome

  • @Noah58 k he just wrote the spider riff man not the whole album

  • @Noah58 Kirk is a much better guitarist, and Dave never wrote this song.

  • @pkpheanix7 Well that's your fucking opinion, asshole. And to each his own. Go ahead and think Kirk is the greatest, in my opinion, he's overrated. All he does is play fast and a lot of the times he can be pretty sloppy. Thanks to Dave Mustaine, who was really the best thing that ever happened to Metallica.

  • @Noah58 well that's you opinion asshole.

  • @pkpheanix7 Study your roots.

  • Comment removed

  • @Noah58 Well you're just another one of those Metallica posers. Guess who started thrash metal? Exodus. If there is one band that should be headliner of the Big Four it would be Exodus and in fact they blow the rest of the Big Four out of the water.

  • @Noah58 The best thing to happen to metallica? He was an addict.

  • @Noah58 LOL your a idiot if you think daves on this track they didnt record the demos until month after dave was kicked out and he didnt write this song all he has is the spider chord on this song i swear you probably think he wrote kill em all haha do some research kid

  • @Noah58 How did they fail when they lost him? They went on without him to be the greatest and most POPULAR band. Dave wrote the main riff and thats it. Dave was a drug addict and if metallica didn't fire him, there would be no megadeth: and they all would have died.

  • So much better with Kirk.

  • @Noah58 you people need to do some research before you talk. Just because someone post a crap video on Youtube doesn't mean that it is fact. The ONLY part of Ride that Dave wrote is the spider chord. That is it, No more no less. The only reason that Kirk is not credited for the solo is at the time Metallica only credited the riffs, lyrics, and arrangements.

  • @Noah58 "I've never heard a more powerful, spine chilling, throat grasping experience about the electric chair than this song."

Agree, though Sixpence None The Richer's little-known B-side, "Sizzling Death Penalty," is a close runner-up IMO.

  • @Noah58 LOL Dave Mustaine was a huge part of Metallica, and Metallica wouldve probably stayed thrash and and not lulu shit with him. BUT, its one thing to say that he wrote a riff, and its a TOTALLY different thing to say he wrote the entire song...

  • @Noah58 Cant people like you understand?!?!?!?! They fired him because he would damage the band idiot. He was a "Troublemaker" and used far to much alcohol. + that he punched James in the face. Dont write stupid shit without checking your facts.

  • @Metadeth1997 Dave did have a drinking problem, but then again he's no better than the other members of Metallica who were avid drinkers, hash smokers, and street junkies. At least Dave straightened his life up, got into rehab, and became a Christian, like Alice Cooper. Lars Ulrich is a douchebag, he's by far the biggest control freak in Metallica. Dave would've blown everyone out of the water with Metallica, if it wasn't for that hypocrite Lars. Dave says his dream with Metallica ended.

  • @Metadeth1997

Read his book...14 year old.Don't say shit if you don't know what you're talking about.

  • @Noah58

    All Hail Dave Mustaine!

  • @Noah58 What is the spider chord?

  • @SuperHairyDick

1:58 that riff is the Spider Chord. Look it up on youtube. Dave has a video where he explains it.

  • @Noah58 did you understand what co-wrote means?? this song was wrote by all the band, don't be a FANBOY... i personally think james and dave are better in the riffs, but kirk is the master on solos

  • @Noah58 The Only band to have 5 Number one Albums on the billboard and also Won 9 grammys with and induction to the rock and roll hall of fame i guess Metallica did fail after Dave huh?

  • @MegadethMagnetc and the other discs are at the list of the worst metal albums ever

  • i instantly felt the megadeth tone/style when i turned this on

  • @guitarwhelp LOL this song sounds NOTHING like ANY Megadeth song! LOL NOOBS!!!!1

  • @mseals29 i didn't say it did, i said i felt a megadeth tone because dave's playing styling is very specific. grow up kid

  • @guitarwhelp Yeah Dave has is own playing style. The reason I said that this song sounds nothing like any Megadeth song is because Dave is NO WHERE on this recording whatsoever. So how is it that you "feel" Megadeth tone? Metallica and Megadeth sound NOTHING alike.

  • dave sucks

  • @makeitstable Are you not hearing how much better the riffs and solo are?

  • @PaperComa it's actually kirk on this demo so your saying kirk is better then dave?okay then =p

  • @dragonmaster633 I really don't feel that 'Kirk' vibe when I listen to this bro. So, I don't think that's Kirk. If it is, then this demo is damned better then the album version. But I highly, highly, doubt that it's Kirk. I mean... you can just feel that weird vibe Dave gives you when he plays.

  • @dragonmaster633 If it is, then it was never recorded with Dave. Kirk couldn't have recorded before Dave left the band.

  • @makeitstable Fuck u Metallica suck big dick and Megadeth is the best shit ever!!!!!!

  • @hamburger1100 agreed

  • metallica smocke on the water

  • metallica stole some of dave mustaine songs before they fired him

  • @pkpheanix7 PFFFF- PFFFFF- PFFHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.

  • In the eighties, people decided that Hair Metal sucked ass, and that Metallica was cool. To accuse these same people of treachery is the same as saying they were traitors for thinking Poison sucked ass. Do you think people thought Metallica was cool and then quickly bought into the other shit of the time and praised it? The assholes who say that true fans don't criticize their new records are mindless buffoons. They released a Metallica version of Monopoly. They're sellouts. Shut the fuck up.

  • @Polyfusia yeah and ac dc are planning to release their monopoly.and hundreds of others old bands have done things that seems to us like sellouts.mustaine played in an episode in duck dodgers.bruce dickinson had his own show in BBC until 2008.lot's of other old-school heavy metal bands have attend to shows, series, videoclips of new bands.but people see that only metallica do that because of the image that lots of people create in their minds......

  • @JonMan7794 no because i aint a fanboy. HAHAH look at metallica's career now! lou reed? pffhahahaha wow metallica's career really did go down with that bus.

  • mustaine lead guitar ;D

    awesome

  • @ronniea7x it isnt mustaine lol its kirk the uploader is a idiot

  • @rolingajayalday WOW 698 dislikes WTF!! I think there is some favortism going on here. Yeah i know that Dave didnt do as good job as James did.But u gotta support Dave.He is still keeping it THRASH to this day.

  • @TheRolling123 i wouldnt say that, i love both bands but i wouldnt consider megadeth thrash anymore really, still great music just not thrash, both bands really changed from the 90's onward

  • @1992metalhead Yeah, thrash was not the right word. And i agree with you but Dave's sound and style has not changed a whole lot and well Metallica just isnt what I remember.

  • @TheRolling123 yea true that man

  • @sanitarium992 they never were kings. theres only 1 thrash god. MUSTAINE. he helped metallica slayer anthrax lift off. i miss when metallica were good thats all. TRUE KING IS LEMMY dumbass

  • @djmm1397 I never said KINGS but GODS. You're an atheist obviously lol

i mean, ok, i respect your opinion, you have the right to listen to whatever you want

  • Now this actually sounds awesome. Dave was a genius in his time

  • THUMBS OR GTFO

  • you guys... this is definately dave.. kirk couldnt play the spider chord that fast so they slowed it down for him. thats why they dont play the spider chord live.... trust me.

  • @thrasherlml Really? Kirk couldnt play it that fast??? LOL!!!!

  • @xarflan lol never mind.. i re listened this is proabably kirk. but kirk couldnt play the spider chord so they slowed it down from how dave wrote it.

  • @ dislikes: its a demo ffs...

  • I didnt know this existed. Im 25 and have been a "hardcore" metallica and megadeth fan since i was 16. Fuck thanks youth4youth2006

  • @If you were a "hardcore" Metallica fan then you would know that the Ride demo was recorded AFTER Dave was kicked out so he is nowhere on this recording. Sorry to disappoint you.

  • @mseals29 Ok fag

  • @ryanisryan69 Fag? wow! Your intellect is astounding!

  • @mseals29 being a hardcoe metallica fan doesnt mean knowing every little detail of the date when someone was in or out of the band.

And calling someone a fag doesnt mean you arent intellectual. It means you are a bitch for typing a gay comment.

  • @ryanisryan69 Whatever you say.

  • Dave was guitar, not vocals.

  • JAMES HETFIELD

  • people who think this is dave instead of hetfield must have some sort of mental disorder. I wasnt even alive for this era of metallica yet i can still clearly recognize james' signature vocals. I will admit that sometimes it sounded strikingly similar to daves voice but this is deffinitely hetfield. No doubt

  • @schecter64 Dave wasnt singing in Metallica he was playing guitar.

  • kirk wrote enter sandman and the amazing solos

  • @BZ123456BZ gayest song ever....unless your 15 years old

  • *-*

  • @richardmap i respect your opinion, but that album was pathetic. thats why i bought endgame, its awesome.

  • @djmm1397 well endgame it's an awesome album thats something i admit, but anyway, lets enjoy music, thats what its all about:)

  • lol when i was 5 and started to listen to metallica and slayer, and started to play doom, i was never the same lol

  • woah, I find demo's to always contain more energy than the studio recordings, and I think this proves

  • MickeeKarlsson thanks. im surprised im not getting death threats from fanboys.

  • metallica hasn't released a good album in 17 years.

  • @djmm1397 to right man

  • @djmm1397 well in my opinion death magnetic is old school stuff

  • @richardmap Death Magnetic is not "old school stuff" ... The day that never comes? That was fucking modern pop.

  • @JoeAuriun mmm it's something i don't think, I respect your opinion

  • @djmm1397 neither did you. shut the fuck up and bow to gods of thrash.
