@483091 It's a great reflection on our part. But American culture, views, and laws are often based on the most vocal. Fundamental Christians are very vocal and achieve things like the Texas textbook massacre (as I call it), Black's used their voice to achieve equality, women were similar, Gay use the PRide Parades to try and get their voice heard. We atheists, however, don't have a huge unifying thread and tend to be less outspoken so our voice gets ignored. It's good, but not for our voice.

Wow. The percentage of atheists in Australia is much higher. The largest group are agnostic. Religious people are third. We don't really have a Bible belt here, but Australia was colonized a few hundred years after the crusades and people migrating for religious freedom. Different history I guess. @483091 It's a great reflection on our part. But American culture, views, and laws are often based on the most vocal. Fundamental Christians are very vocal and achieve things like the Texas textbook massacre (as I call it), Black's used their voice to achieve equality, women were similar, Gay use the PRide Parades to try and get their voice heard. We atheists, however, don't have a huge unifying thread and tend to be less outspoken so our voice gets ignored. It's good, but not for our voice.

I don't know, if I had to deal with evangelical possible in-laws... I'd be contemplating fire too... Really other than the off-kilter atheist (Who is balanced out by the parents who wear MASSIVE crosses), this video seems to be fairly fair to atheists, acknowledging that atheists aren't just dogmatic "There is no god period," types.
The whole pyro-boyfriend thing seems really out of place from the tone of the rest of the video, really...

The burden of proof lies upon you. It's mathematically impossible to prove the non-existence of anything. Say, you claim there are flying unicorns with hawklike beaks. It's up to you to provide proof. Religion is no different.. Without proof, you're just telling fairy tales.

I will say just one last thing, though. Belief in a higher power is exactly like belief in Bigfoot/sasquatch. Lots of anecdotes, lots of fuzzy logic (and in Bigfoot's case, fuzzy photos), but the believers of each are just as irrational as the other, and neither group should be taken seriously.

@nuckinfuts32330 The Big Bang Theory is a misnomer, you do realize. There was no "explosion." Just a gradual expansion. Time, space, matter and energy all had a finite beginning... all of them within the singularity that expanded. Your inability to conceive of how such a concept can work has no bearing on its accuracy. People objected to the "round earth" for similar reasons.
There is no knowledge without empirical data and/or proof. At best, you have hearsay, or at worst, you have "faith."

You are correct on one thing, though... this is, ultimately, a non-issue. "Why are we here?" is a rather pointless question. Learning how we evolved is scientifically useful, but the reason why we exist (assuming there is one) does not help anyone.

You don't "know" God is there. Knowledge implies empirical proof, and if you had that, this debate would be a non-issue.

Wow. The percentage of atheists in Australia is much higher. The largest group are agnostic. Religious people are third. We don't really have a Bible belt here, but Australia was colonized a few hundred years after the crusades and people migrating for religious freedom. Different history I guess. Also, many migrated here to escape religion, especially the conflict in Ireland between Catholics and Protestants.

Gnostic = Knowledge of God, u can b Gnostic theist / Gnostic Atheist or Agnostic theist / Agnostic Atheist
Theist = belief in a particular god storey
A-theist = anything other than a belief in god
BTW anyone claiming not to be agnostic is a liar or self deceiving
