Yes, Bella dies before she gives birth but she gets changed so she turns into a vampire and "survives". Jacob does find love with Renesmee because she's a fast growing girl so she doesn't stay small throughout her 1st year she gets bigger and looks like she's 18 within a few years of her life... She held on for Edward and Renesmee. Jacob doesn't love Renesmee in a romantic way yet. He only wants her to be happy and healthy at this point. At each stage of her life he will think of her differently. At the first stage he is only there as sort of a playmate.
