  • Beautiful! xo

  • @doctoru2 If you read my original post you will see I said they died AFTER ATYCLB. I grew up with the band since Boy, saw them on both sides of the Atlantic, and spent $1000's on them over the years. In my opinion NLOTH is pure gobshite, as its predecessor "Atomic Bomb" or whatever the hell it was called. Music is relative to the individual; you don't have to agree with me. Its called freedom of choice....

  • This is a great version no doubt. However modern-day Bono would never sing this now out of the ridiculous fear of being "too nationalistic". The U2 I knew and loved died after the ATYCLB album, sadly....

  • Have you heard "No Line on the Horizon"? U2's latest has a few throwaway songs - like every U2 album - but the rest are among U2's best. Soaring Bono vocals and darker themes that are reminiscent of "Unforgettable Fire". And songs like "Moment of Surrender" rank along with classic U2.

Also, the U2 "you knew" came with ATYCLB? Really? Because that album was in 2000. The above recording was in 1989. The U2 of 2000 were hardly the same band.

  • i always knew bono was a talent if fact i see him a an poet. I love the way he sings this song with that irish emotional voice.

  • massa !!!!!

  • i fell in love with this song... and a wild Irish rose!

  • the best song ever..

  • I remember watching this on tv, and I was upset when it wasnt released. Its a beautiful gem. Rare.

  • they should go back to their roots

  • i think that graveyard is an old german buriel site in glencree where german soldiers died which is up in wicklow mountains . it is so beautiful . i go there with the missus to pray at the statue of mary by the river

  • ireland is the most beautiful country in the world . natural beauty and u2 just add to it . i completely get it .

  • And 2 years later, they put out Achtung Baby.

I still can't believe that they did that. It feels like they jumped decades in a matter of a couple of years, from a black and white roots-oriented mentality to futuristic sensory overload

  • @TeeneNY

And even though they did a u-turn down this road with AB, they made it all fit together during and after ZooTV. Legends.

  • Profound.

  • I Love it!!!! Me encanta!!!!!! Love all Ireland and its culture!! Greetings from Spain to my friends in Ennis

  • For me the reason why bonos voice seems less powerful nowadays is because hes developed a sickening american twang, still love the band though

  • MAIDIR LEIS AN PHOBLACHT NA hÉIREANN

  • Dont talk about America....you sing it without heart. We use SOUL around here to sing songs buddy. And btw My Wild Irish Rose was an original song, wrote in NY....so yea your title isn't so original sorry.

  • Respect...

  • .Just love Bono..

  • @redwhitch17 Your a legend RW thanks for the share ;-)

  • this is what made me love U2 actually :)

  • Bono, sexy thing

  • Danke !! das ist Hammer !!!

  • @SarahSousa94 Yeah, Bono's voice still keeps to sound nice. He's the present King of Rock, and U2's songs prove the fact that not all in present-day music is trash. For a 15 years old Portuguese girl you write in English very well (congratulations). Greetings from wet Poland.

  • Heavy song from the heavyweights of rock.

  • bono is the man

  • I love Wild Irish Rose. Bono brings Ireland straight to my LivingRoom with his voice. Bono is an amazing man. Long Live Bono, Long Live U2 /Realm

  • if bonos voice sucked as much as some of u ppl say it does they never would have gotten this big no matter wat the hype. in other words go fck yourselves. p.s. ive heard alotta bands and i gotta say u2 has some fuckin awesome music dont just spout of shit plz

  • This clip really shows how incredible Bono's voice was, I say was because I honestly believe his voice has gone downhill in the last few years, as expected I mean the guy will be 50 in May and also is a big smoker, he still has an amazing voice and U2 are still creating amazing music! I hope Songs of Ascent is another classic!!!!

  • voices go with age...

what a great gift to the world for the time given

    I experienced live

  • Hmmm I see most of your comments have been on U2 video's bashing Bono's vocal abilities, Obviously a hater of the group, that's fine, everyone has there taste, But I would like most people prefer if you would keep your comments off the videos, kinda like if ye aint got nothing good to say don't say anything at all, Its mostly U2 fans watching this videos, and to say U2 are crap musicians as a fact is stupid! they aint the greatest technical players but they know how to write great tunes!

  • Comment removed

  • @rolandogodoy1 yeah and its a very uneducated one at that

  • @FelixMerchant His voice has lost a lot. This was the u2 i loved. Its the real deal

  • @jpjames1 this topic has been done to death..he went through lots of problems with his vocals, having surgery in the late 90s and just like Elton John, he's lost some range and power, but also he found he was allergic to red wine, which affected him. Add the fact he used to smoke, had bad technique and was screaming in his early days, so that affected his vocals.....plus he is nearly 50 now, what do you expect

  • see on lihtsalt super. Thänk you

  • U2 Rocks 4 ever 'n ever

  • Comment removed

  • sorry just need to correct you their Bono is still HOT now, then & for ever more

  • the people out there today who think Bono is a no-talent obnoxious frontman of a sell-out cringeworhty jingle-dispensing overrated band........LISTEN TO THIS MOTHERFUCKERS!!!!!!!!!!!! THIS is music.....THIS is poetry!!!!! it'll blow the pretentious, self-indulgent indie music out ur pseudo-bohemian arses!!

  • Amen!

  • So true, So true. I agree with you on that completely.

  • do you even know what i am talking about ? i'm replying to some guy talking smack about u2 ! i know they are a great band you fuckin moron , next time gather some information before talking back acting a god damn fool .

  • i dont know what you;re talking about, i was agreeing with what u said. very strange i was saying thank you.

  • ok u should not have called me a fuckin moron. i saw what u wrote and i was saying thanks for telling other people who hate on u2 that they are great. i saw that u were writing back to some idiot, i know how this works im not a child. think u should not call me a god damn fool for saying that., perhaps there is a misunderstanding. ok, i am not stupid.:)

  • BONO is amazing thank u for this post to let the haters know BONO ROCKS!. i have this on a cd my bf got me years ago and this song is great.

  • Comment removed

  • @youarenotimmune i agree what u said about bono, considering u2 is most definitely one of my favorite bands ever and a huge inspiration on my own playing, but why slam indie music?..theyve got some pretty neat tunes as well...theyr 2 separate genres and cant really be compared

  • @youarenotimmune wow.....chill dude

  • @youarenotimmune I gave you a thumbs up but I think your point could've just as well been proven without the capitalized swearing. :o)

  • i agree my friend, pure and natural music like it should be...but skip the M...F thing it doesnt fit! bless u from Portugal

  • @youarenotimmune ok maybe he was good back then but he sucks now

  • @youarenotimmune Yes, this is poetry. It's just to bad that U2 had nothing to do with writing it.

  • @thereverendwho U2 had everything to do with writing this, since Bono wrote it....

  • bonos a fukin god :|!

  • Awesome clip! But what the heck was that right at the end? I hear God Part II Hard Metal Dance Mix. Got any video of that?

  • This is the Bono i like best he sings with more soul and heart.

  • A BEAUTIFULL SONG KEEP IT UP.

  • Its that VHS sound that makes this song even haunting & blissful :)

  • Wild Irish Rose, my 2nd tattoo was for this.

  • wat a bunch of girls u's r......

  • girls with GREAT BIG HEARTS FULL OF LOVE.!!!!!

  • Very good song!

  • WOW!!! How HANSOME Bono was!!!! He still is but in his yonger days very hot hot hot , and his voice very sexy!! :)))))

  • Beautiful lyrics and song. Wonder if there is a version with no interruption.

  • Sweet! Who's that dude at 3.33 playing the midi-flute thing. He's probably all "yeah! I'm blowing with Bono!" The sound of that thing definitely sounds epic. It kind of defines the end of the eighties. Try playing that thing today, you might get in trouble. If you played you're cards right though, it'd be some kind of secret weapon.

  • It looks like Donal Lunney. I think he produced it.

  • This will be the last song on the last studio album by u2 and I've thought that since first hearing it on BBC2 in 1989 it's the song they are holding back I think. It's all over when this is realeased!

  • bibicalifornia :

You can find it on a box called Bringing it all back home, was a collection of Irish songs and how they travelled the world....great songs! 2 by U2/Bono/Edge..

  • where can I find this on a cd?

    love it!

so very, very irish to its core.

  • I just love hearing him sing a traditional-sounding Irish song. If he hasn't already-I wish he'd make an album of this kind of music.

  • Bono, a modern poet

  • I personally think he is the greatest lyricist of all time without a doubt. He arites what he invisions....

  • Maravillosa. Paul Hewson the best!!

  • Sounds great after 750 ml of Wild Irish Rose.

  • hahah, nice!

  • Simply beautiful - yes, hauntingly beautiful - what an amazing song to discover!

  • It's amazing how much Bono's rhetoric has improved since the 80's. He can explain his ideas so much better now.

  • I don't really like it

  • me too cool sometimes but sux

  • TOP RANK. From the soul.

  • The best song I ever heard - gorgeous...I g

  • primadonna on the run

  • im a fish out of water

  • this song really should have been on R&H fits great with Heartland.....like all other songs would be highly impressive if this was ever performed live!! A REAL GEM

  • very rare video.

  • the best!!!!!very good

  • Este extraordinar, foarte exclusivist ......... ma bucur ca nu a fost comercializat.

  • And anybody can explain me the story of this video Im french and I don't understand the explications..

    Thanks very much!

  • Bono was in Los Angeles (the city of angels) and saw a bum getting drunk on inexpensive liquor named 'wild irish rose'.

  • This song was wrotten by Bono? That looks like a political song or a hymn..Not the words but the way of singing, different from the other songs of U2 !?

    It's very beautiful..

  • how can u transfer a video from lime wire to an i pod?

  • Does anyone know if this is at the end of the U2 80's era and on to the 90's Achtung baby era? What album is this song in?

  • It does look it's around the time of "Rattle and Hum" and "The Joshua Tree", because of the way they look (Bono's hair, clothings...), but it's definitely before "Achtung Baby". Now, I've got all the "official" albums, and this song is in none of them (not even on the B-sides), but I really wish it were!! I did download it from LimeWire though =D

  • post- rattle and hum, pre- achtung baby. i'd say it was around the lovetown tour era, a little while before the lads headed off to berlin to start working on the achtung baby album in hansa ton. i don't think they officially released the song.

  • On which album is this song?

Please tell me the Year release?

    thanks...

best wishes to all U2 Fans!!!

  • Did U2 ever release this on CD ?

  • Magnifique

  • This song is powerful i think, i love it, it touches my soul

    luv u Bono

  • Where did this person dig up this?

  • Me encanta esta cancion. Oh my wild irish rose ¡preciosaaa!

  • awsome

  • yes im so pround of uncie peadar

  • Wow, what a beautiful song.

  • My family too is from Ireland, the O'Sullivan's, and I thought that he does a damn good job singing it.

  • wow, the vocal is so powerful

  • brilliant a great song to chill out and relax to

  • Oh, he's sooooo damn cute.... get over here you wild Irish man!!!......wooooo

  • Emmmmm yes he is very sexy, you can see why our 'friend" likes him so much.

  • My grand Great Uncle Chancellor "Chauncey" Olcott

composed and wrote the song My Wild Irish Rose in 1899. I wish you knew the true meaning of the lyric and it's history and meaning, then your video would of been directed in the political vision that Chauncey had intended to communicate in his use of the metaphore Wild Irish Rose. Bono's heart's in the right place but nicking a classic? A composer in my own right Stephen A. Olcott

  • well, as far as i can tell, your "uncle's" song has totally different lyrics...

  • The Lyric "My Wild Irish Rose" means a Free Ireland" free of the Crown or English rule. I'm sure every Irishman alive would

love to hear the original ballad sung as an anthem drivin by a snare playing a marching cadance, Imagine at a soccer game 10,000 singing with the band and Bono! The political statement would light a torch. They couldn't sing like that in 1899 but today, Bono could light an eternal torch!

  • IRelAND!!!!!!!!!!!UUUU2222222

  • Beautifull

  • Theres only ONE Bono!!!

  • The history of this song is inspiring and very sad too.

  • really think look'in back on it they should have put this song on the Rattle&Hum alblum!! anyone know where I can down load this track? thanks for the info

    u2retrobuff

  • amazing. u2 should do more irish folk inspired songs. bono's voice goes well with it.

  • Also in awe here too... so amazingly talented!

  • I'm in awe...

  • Wow! I never saw it before but I really appreciate it. But what is that at the end? Random...

  • This is a real gem. Thanks for posting it! Really incredible.

  • should check out the video to Jesus christ by u2 87 american poet writer Woody Guthrie I was really impressed should have put it on the Joshua alblum u2retrobuff

  • Wow, these videos are mindboggling! I love the Irish ballad and the cemetary...I was lucky enough to be in Ireland last May, and did some cemetary wandering myself.

Thanks for sharing....these videos are like hopping into a time machine!
