It seems like the only thing Rent Remixed had going for it was the guy who played Roger. But why get rid of the rawness of Rent? It's about a group of struggling artists living in Alphabet City, New York in the 90's. It's not supposed to be poppy and melloed down. And even if you take away the fact they've given it more of a pop feeling, the vocals are subpar at best. Only a couple stand out. I just don't understand.

Actually both Roger and Mimi do a good job here. They try to act it more, and sing it less, which is cool cuz it sounds more natural (including the knocking sound, that really sounds like a door, not like drums). And Mimi sounds like she is really 19, she is well cast. The problem is the music. Ity sounds strange, with a lot of unnecessary arrengements, like the weird slowing down in the part where Mimi says "They say that have the best ass...".
I saw it in London, it was amaaazing! roger was soo goood!!! Although not drastically different you shouldn't have touched it in the first place. I'm so glad this production closed early so less people had to endure it!

Luke evans was fantastic considering, Siobhan was horrendous, and got nearly no claps let alone cheers at the bows. Deal with it, it sucked.

To be fair Luke Evans did a good job in both songs. His vocal is great in One Song Glory, the passion would fit perfectly in the original - he's no Pascal though lol

I saw this when I was in London at Denise's last show. overall it was amazing. That ex sugababe as Mimi was really weak vocally and her acting wasnt as strong, especially singing with Luke who has such a powerful voice. He was def a stand out performance! Denise rocked it and milked her performance. Ruth as Joanne was fantastic too.
I dont think these people had the right to change something that isn't even theirs especially when the creator of this show is unfortunately gone...Not that it was...Bad....But everyone can say what they want, Rent shouldn't be touched
I am mortified. Rent is one of broadways most beautiful art ever performed. And this completely destroys it. It not only destroys it, it takes everything remaining and uses it as inspiration for more destruction. See the problem here was that this attempt was horrribly executed, with only a few redeeming qualities. (I mean God, listening to Light My Candle here seems like a disaster) Had it been done better it probably would have been pretty good as an alternate adaptation of RENT.
but have you seen Spring Awakening? the show is ridiculously amazing imo. Most of my Renthead friends also fell in love with SA. Damn shame that such a groundbreaking show like Rent is closing. I've been devastated but the fact that SA opened isnt the only reason it is. The attendance has been dropping for years and the strike is another factor that greatly hurt its attendance.
Yes, I have seen Spring Awakening. And I've met John Gallagher Jr. 3 times as I live in NYC. Don't act like I don't know what I'm talking about. Spring Awakening has no plot or meaning, and it was the worst musical I have ever seen. John Gallagher Jr. saved that show. I asked some cast members what the meaning was after the show, and they all gave me bullshit responses.
Like "Spring Awakening is about parents letting kids express themselves. You don't have a meaning for it?!"- Jonathan Groff. The New York Times SAID it was due to shows like Spring Awakening that rent is closing (because of ticket sales, yes, but that's because they are buying tickets to those shows). Spring Awakening was a HORRIBLE musical, it was more like a concert, with no plot or character development, and if you really love musicals as much as you act like you do, you could tell this.

Ive seen Kerry + Lee (havent seen Ramin) & while I can no doubt deny Kerrys voice is amazing + much stronger than Siobhans (when she sang No Good Deed I was just like OMG she can belt it out!) however imo Siobhans voice is much more emotional & really captured the songs. I dont think theatre is about who can sing the most like Mariah Carey or whatever, its much more of a package n I think Siobhan has it. She has a beautiful voice & Mimi is very complex which I think Sio played outstandingly

Sounds like a school production. They should be ashamed of themselves. Singing in tune is a prerequisite for a show. Hopefully they will get their game together. Lots of people were waiting on this and hoping it will take RENT to the next level. I honestly think this is a severe step backwards. How could you say that? I saw it the other day and it was amazing!! The whole cast and ensemble sound great! Its incomparable to the original because its a different, more updated take on rent! The whole cast has amazing voices, with one exception!

i love the orinal rent it is really really amazinly good. and that musical really struck me. but i do like this version aswell i don't think you should compare it to the orininal because nothing is going to even be slightly better then the original . its different i no but you have to give it some credit in the fact that it IS different and has a whole new feel and personally i love it but not compared to the original they are to different plays in my eyes. i love BOTH of them . :)

i think you got that comment a bit wrong: siobhan doesn't have a very strong voice. if you properly listen she's pushing it the whole way through, which is what people with weaker voices (ie: me) do to make it sound stronger, and in part i think she sounds like DRV (which isn't really a good thing but means she was probably trying to emulate her) and they toned down out tonight a lot, which makes me think she was having difficulties

everyone critises siobhan, i think she's good! at points her voice is a little weak, but it's her first performance, and at times she really does sound brillaint.

Luke is out of this world! i have been very very bored to death of this song for a long time now....due to over kill while studying but seeing his performance of roger in general just brought back the spark of this tune and combined with oliver as mark both led to a inspiring performance.
How did Siobhan ever manage to sing in Sugababes?? She can't sing a note without being shaky and out of tune. She shouldn't be doing RENT anyway, she said herslef that the music in RENT is really her kind of thing.
Wow, they ruined most of the songs, imo, but it is settled, One Song Glory and Without You are both awesome. I love this new orchestration. It sounds like RENT meets Moulin Rouge.
This was their first performance - all the toher recordings from this night are 'dodgy' too, but I saw it on 6th Oct, and they seemed more settled in.
I think it's just a case of getting into the routine of the performances and getting used to having a big audience :)

That last note was off, but other than that I liked it, it's not had a huge overhaul. I still like Donaghy's voice as Mimi (though she sounds nervy on these recordings I think), but I've heard horrific things about her acting.
As long as the show makes it to a cast recording, I'm happy.

That ex sugababe as Mimi was really weak vocally and her acting wasnt as strong, especially singing with Luke who has such a powerful voice. He was def a stand out performance! Denise rocked it and milked her performance. Ruth as Joanne was fantastic too.

I'm not a fan of what they've done with rent. I went into it with an open mind... but for me it just doesnt do it. Especially in "Out Tonight"
Roger was pretty good... but mimi wasnt on form.
And it seemed to be... just, lacking energy.

See the problem here was that this attempt was horrribly executed, with only a few redeeming qualities. (I mean God, listening to Light My Candle here seems like a disaster) Had it been done better it probably would have been pretty good as an alternate adaptation of RENT.

but have you seen Spring Awakening? the show is ridiculously amazing imo. Most of my Renthead friends also fell in love with SA. Damn shame that such a groundbreaking show like Rent is closing. I've been devastated but the fact that SA opened isnt the only reason it is. The attendance has been dropping for years and the strike is another factor that greatly hurt its attendance.

Yes, I have seen Spring Awakening. And I've met John Gallagher Jr. 3 times as I live in NYC. Don't act like I don't know what I'm talking about. Spring Awakening has no plot or meaning, and it was the worst musical I have ever seen. John Gallagher Jr. saved that show. I asked some cast members what the meaning was after the show, and they all gave me bullshit responses.

Like "Spring Awakening is about parents letting kids express themselves. You don't have a meaning for it?!"- Jonathan Groff. The New York Times SAID it was due to shows like Spring Awakening that rent is closing (because of ticket sales, yes, but that's because they are buying tickets to those shows). Spring Awakening was a HORRIBLE musical, it was more like a concert, with no plot or character development, and if you really love musicals as much as you act like you do, you could tell this.

...okay...Luke Evans has saved this. Sorry, I'll be honest. I'm not the biggest RENT remixed fan in the world. I don't see the point in changing songs that are already like and gain a good following to something that people are going to speak badly of.

Ive seen Kerry + Lee (havent seen Ramin) & while I can no doubt deny Kerrys voice is amazing + much stronger than Siobhans (when she sang No Good Deed I was just like OMG she can belt it out!) however imo Siobhans voice is much more emotional & really captured the songs. I dont think theatre is about who can sing the most like Mariah Carey or whatever, its much more of a package n I think Siobhan has it. She has a beautiful voice & Mimi is very complex which I think Sio played outstandingly

Sounds like a school production. They should be ashamed of themselves. Singing in tune is a prerequisite for a show. Hopefully they will get their game together. Lots of people were waiting on this and hoping it will take RENT to the next level. I honestly think this is a severe step backwards. Lets hope they will fix the issues and no longer put up with mediocre vocal performances.

How could you say that? I saw it the other day and it was amazing!! The whole cast and ensemble sound great! Its incomparable to the original because its a different, more updated take on rent! The whole cast has amazing voices, with one exception!
Denise van Outen is also fabulous- i'm sure you'l change you minds when you actually go to see it!!

i love the orinal rent it is really really amazinly good. and that musical really struck me. but i do like this version aswell i don't think you should compare it to the orininal because nothing is going to even be slightly better then the original . its different i no but you have to give it some credit in the fact that it IS different and has a whole new feel and personally i love it but not compared to the original they are to different plays in my eyes. i love BOTH of them . :)

can i just say to al you people that are slagging this show off that i just got back from seeing it ad thought it was fantasic, these recordings are really bad and do the songs no justice. yes its different but not as different as i thought it would be, it was still rent and thats what i went to see. lukes voice was brilliant, one of the best i've heard in a long time in london from a male lead

Just want to second that - i saw it this Saturday - Adam pascal was always my favourite - but Luke blows him out of the picture for me - his voice is stunning - and the show is incredible - if you've seen it and don't agree -fine - but please DON'T judge based on youtube - thats what i did and went in really apprehensive and then came out elated - it's really brilliant...

i think you got that comment a bit wrong: siobhan doesn't have a very strong voice. if you properly listen she's pushing it the whole way through, which is what people with weaker voices (ie: me) do to make it sound stronger, and in part i think she sounds like DRV (which isn't really a good thing but means she was probably trying to emulate her) and they toned down out tonight a lot, which makes me think she was having difficulties

Whether it's by luck or design, I reckon she got this song right, even if I will concede that she may have overdone the vunrablity elsewhere. Just my opinion though :)

everyone critises siobhan, i think she's good! at points her voice is a little weak, but it's her first performance, and at times she really does sound brillaint.
one song was good, but i actually preffered light my candle..
these sound right. they are thebest i have listened to of the remixed versions so far.
luke evans is good here, i didn't think he sounded good in another day at all. his voice is still a little grating but it's certainly not bad.

This was their first performance - all the toher recordings from this night are 'dodgy' too, but I saw it on 6th Oct, and they seemed more settled in.
I think it's just a case of getting into the routine of the performances and getting used to having a big audience :)

That last note was off, but other than that I liked it, it's not had a huge overhaul. I still like Donaghy's voice as Mimi (though she sounds nervy on these recordings I think), but I've heard horrific things about her acting.
As long as the show makes it to a cast recording, I'm happy.
