  • The truth is the solar cycle has influence over the weather, and is a reason why the EPA states as one of the key factors of future climate predictions and change depend on:

"How much the climate varies as a result of natural influences (e.g. from volcanic activity and changes in the sun s intensity) and its internal variability (referring to random changes in the circulation of the atmosphere and oceans)."

The EPA website never states that manmade global warming is a fact.

  • Manmade Global Warming has no scientific evidence but there is evidence that disproves it. here is a video you should all watch:

    youtube(dot)com/watch?v=FOLkze-9GcI

Manmade Global warming is based on a fallacy, not fact and also seems to only be a concern where there is political gain.

  • One of the most important requirements on a resume', in order to work at FOX NEWS is stupidity.

  • Barton probably thinks the world is 6,000 years old too, like that idiot Sylvia Allen from AZ. Maybe Barton could go sit on an iceberg and wait for it to melt under his stupid ass.

  • Just one? How many others (dis)agree with him? What reasons were given for not revealing the report?

  • If you watch Fox news, you might as well be a fan of Jerry Springer.

  • Congressman Barton is a pro-oil Republican from Texas ..

  • One expert disagrees... so that fully refutes everyone else? Interesting logic there.

  • My favorite line from Blackadder II:

Blackadder: "I was under the impression that it was standard practice for a ship to have a crew."

Captain Rum: "Opinion is divided on the subject, my Lord."

    Blackadder: "It is?"

Captain Rum: "Yes. All the other Captains say it IS, I say it ISN'T."

  • Republicans play with words. It's what they do. That is what religion is, a giant conglomeration of meaningless words. And here you see them do it again with "Carbon-gate". They're just doing what they know best by playing with words to distort facts. Appealing to the emotional response of the word "Carbon-gate" and preying on less intelligent people. It's intellectual slavery. That's PRECISELY what this is. Hopefully, the civil war that eventually breaks out will be purely intellectual.

  • When I was young it was global cooling that the world was worried about. I am 51. Not that long ago. We live on a living planet and it changes,we do not make it chang. Man is a drop in the bucket of having much to do with climate change. I believe we are being lied to and I believe the reason is control over the people. Whoever controls the money rules the world. Believe me, this will hurt your pocketbook in a way you have never imagine. Too late to complain then. They will have what they want.

  • re: koolmom21

=When I was young it was global cooling that the world was worried about.=

A suggestion. Don't get your science from magazines

    greyfalcon. net/ cooling2

    greyfalcon. net/ cooling

=Man is a drop in the bucket of having much to do with climate change.=

Really? Because it sure ain't the sun this time around

    greyfalcon. net/ solar0.png

    greyfalcon. net/ forcing4.png

You sure you aren't just "disagreeing with reality" merely because it doesn't match your personal political philosophy?

  • I think my comment was very clear- so whatever.

  • Carbongate? Really? What an old fool.

  • Oh, give me a break...what about Dick Cheney's assasination squad, or the millions of innocent Iraqis killed by you idiotic "wisdom". One day, all of you hateful bastards will find you justice. The universe only allows so much stupidity. Luckily it's concentrated in a few old inbred dolts that will not live much longer....although, they may outlive me if Cheney is any statement to "Government Provided Healthcare"

  • Yes, Barton's absolutely spot-on: Obama "hiding" a report from an official from the EPA that BushCo just spent 8 years buggering up (& staffing with cronies) that downplays man-made climate change is EXACTLY like Nixon's "Plumbers" breaking into the Democrats' headquarters to get dirt to use to win an election that Nixon likely would've won anyway!

    Or not.

  • Facts are stubborn things, like the fact NONE of

the deniers can get away from which is that

around 90% of the scientists on earth say

global warming is real and needs to be

addressed. So unless you have a

climatology degree from a 4 year university,

shut the fuck up and listen to the experts.

  • Yeah but rep barton from Texas says they have a scientist from the EPA saying this is all BS. Why would a repug. lie to the American people?

  • As far as climatologists, I would say all but 3 or 4 individuals consider human caused global warming as serious problem. I'm not counting those that aren't publishing their ideas and/or work for the energy sector. Anyone can write a book, blog, write letters to the editor, quote bad science on youtube etc. I'll trust peer review.

  • In college they teach you not to think and only look to studies by "experts". I went to college back when they taught people to think. I know math. I know science. (MSEE, MBA). You obviously went to college in this age of stupidity. It is a lie that 90% of scientists say human-caused global warming is real. The tide is moving the other way. China and other Asians believe we're morons. They are adding coal-fired and nuclear plants by the score. In 20 years we'll be near a third-world status.

  • re: bobcrunch

    ==It is a lie that 90% of scientists agree==

    That so?

Even though every major national academy of sciences agrees. And there's not a single scientific institution that disagrees.

    greyfalcon. net/ whatwouldittake

    greyfalcon. net/ nameone

And please don't embarrass yourself with that OISM thing

    greyfalcon. net/ oism

And as for this Carlin "report", don't you think it's odd that his sources are a bunch of books and blog posts? Hell he even cites astrology.

    greyfalcon. net/ carlin

  • Yes, indeed. North Korea, China and Mongolia are adding coal-fired plants by the score.

    esa. un. org/techcoop/flagship. asp?Code=ras92461

And do you think their governments are doing it because they don't believe it harms the environment, or are they doing it because they're a bunch of irresponsible assholes who don't give a shit one way or the other? And do you believe that the bahavior of the North Korean government is a model for the responsible governments of the world to follow?

  • China is also exempt from most international environmental protection regulation for their status as a "developing nation." Japan, however, certainly doesn't have much of a problem keeping their industry alive even with observance of the same laws.

Strange, an engineer accusing someone of rote memorization and toadyism. Without applied scientists doing the legwork to provide you with reference literature, you'd be lost.

  • Greenhouse gasses make up only 2% of the earth's total atmosphere. Carbon dioxide is only 3.62% of greenhouse gasses. Human activity causes only 3.4% of carbon dioxide. I know that today's US educational system is a total disaster, so I'll do the math for you. Only 0.0024616% of CO2 is caused by human activity. The plants of the earth are thanking us. Facts are stubborn things.

  • Bob crunch You can try to push all the faulty science you want. The common man understands that HUMAN interaction with the earth is FAR worst than any other animal. HUMAN`s are killing the planet. Humans are a virus on the earth which nature pushes us to destroy things around us. It seems that YOU have found a great job in this unholy world. You have decided to be mans press secretary. Good job....

  • re: bobcrunch Yes natural carbon emissions are large However natural carbon sinks are larger They are relatively balanced. We happen to tip that balance. greyfalcon. net/ carbon2 That's why there's 1/3rd more carbon in the atmosphere now, than in atleast the past 800,000 years greyfalcon. net/ carbon3 Also we know it's fossil carbon due it's unique isotopes greyfalcon. net/ c14 As for water vapor, it's regulated by it's temperature sensitivity greyfalcon. net/ watervapor.png
  • No science is exact. The average trend is clear though & significant warming is taking place. The science academies of almost every major western nation have signed documents attesting to the negative impact of carbon emissions.

Releasing millions of tons of C thats been trapped inside the earth is going to have an effect on Earth.

You will find scientists who will disagree, scientists disagree all the time, but the vast majority of reputable ones know global warming needs to be addressed.

  • Actually, no one denies that global warming is real; the argument is whether Carbon dioxide emissions really do raise the temperature. Their has been no REAL proof of CO2 emissions, and some scientists believe that the CO2 levels rise with temperature, rather than temperature rises as a result of CO2 emissions. The whole argument of "global warming AS A RESULT OF CO2" is based on a logical fallacy (Questionable Cause.) I want real evidence to support it, because there is evidence against it.

  • 1. If you're trying to claim that global warming is a cum post hoc ergo propter hoc fallacy, what kind of evidence would you accept?

    2. "because there is evidence against it." What evidence are you using to argue against it?

  • The Teleprompter SockPuppet has more than just Carbongate. Bush came into office with a budget surplus. He ran a deficit every year. Add up every friggin year together and you still fall short of Obama's deficit. If Bush was a drunken sailor spending, Obama is the seventh fleet on a bender!

Obama LIED and the Economy Died under his unsustainable spending.

  • You clearly don't understand economics or government finance, but that's irrelevant: It's been six months. Nothing Obama has done has had any visible impact on the economy so far, and it won't for a little while. The economy has not died under Obama, it just hasn't recovered yet.

  • Okay. Since we are comparing American presidents, here is my list of the best and worst.

Best: Teddy R, FDR, Eisenhauer, Kennedy, Carter, and so far, Obama.

Worst: Andrew Jackson, Hoover, Reagan, Dubya.

Luke warm: LBJ (would have been one of the greatest, if it wasnt for his Vietnam lying.) Nixon (you have to admit the EPA, and Chinese relations were big accomplishments, and Watergate is child's play compared to Iraq.) Clinton (the Republicans shut him down. Waaay too centrist.)

  • july 1 and 2 in ohio it was cold damn cold for july 1 and 2.

  • google: Erős Cecilia emlékére

  • obama is going to continue the bush policy of fuckin things up.

  • i voted Obama and i'm still a strong supporter but...

    WE DON'T NEED THE BILL!!!

the republifucks are right. If you had any idea how much the opposition skeptics, have been suppressed on that issue it would blow your mind.

Great thing about science though, eventually the correct side always wins

  • Science may eventually win, but its corruption can cause much chaos and human misery in the short run. Look up Trofim_Lysenko in Wikipedia. His junk science in the 1930s caused massive crop failures and the persecution and death of legitimate scientists (e.g. Nikolai Vavilov who died in prison of starvation). Science demands that all theories must remain open to the possibility of being wrong. Otherwise it's religion.

  • Trofim Lysenko is a good example of communist lore and religious like qualities.

  • The skeptics have not been suppressed. Almost all of the skeptics are non-experts in the field, and the doubt about global warming has been manufactured. Any apparent suppression has been to lower the volume from the non-experts.

The consensus view of EXPERTS in the field is still the same. Example: this article in Science Magazine. Of almost 1000 papers by experts, NOT ONE disagrees with the global warming consensus.

    sciencemag . org/cgi/content/full/306/5702/1686

  • I guess Sarah Palin is running for president!!

Tina Fey is going to make SO MUCH MONEY in the next 4 years. This is going to be sooooo much fun to watch. Jon Stewart, Colbert, OBrian are THANKING THE GODDESS OF COMEDY for this one!!!

Obama vs. Palin 2012!!! Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha haha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha!!!!!

  • you all better wake up to the fack that there is no global warming before they pass this energy bill that no american can pay for. go read how washington is taking over every building in the us.a amendment waxman dropped in at 3:09 am the day of the vote.

  • everyone in dc has lied about global warming.Someone there ordered the epa to hide facts their own people had said about there was no global warming/Al Gore has already made a 100 million off this scam

  • oh god damn denialists

  • republicans have categorically lied about everything concerning global warming/climate change. i don't see any reason to listen to them now. oh and carbongate? are these pathetic asses actually serious? the once proud republican party is reduced to a bunch of brainless idiots not that they were not close before. but it seems like the likes of sarah palin and all the religious and so called moral rhetoric from people like s.c. gov sanford have finally taken it's toll.

  • I'll bet the people who posted this don't realize how silly this argument sounds to others who can THINK STRAIGHT.

  • The Republican party is eventually going to collapse under the crushing weight of its own cognitive dissonance.

  • bit of a stretch, Nixon was covering up a break in.

When they do this all they do is keep their credibility below zero and feed the loonie loons

  • fuck faux news

  • that "scientist" was a fucking economist.

  • Koo koo.

  • Oh Barton, your so dumb. It's kinda cute.

  • there have been thousands of documents that say global warming is real, this document said it does not exist is a fucking ECONOMIST!!!

  • WOW, really, ok, first off the study would have been done and held under bush, so first thing you need to do is put this at Obama's feet?

  • I think climate change doubters are sounding more and more like the idiots they are.

  • L A M E

  • its so painfully obvious that there is not enough evidence to support the fact that humans are creating this problem. And even if we were, should heavy taxes be put on us because of an irreversable problem that we can not really ever fix?

  • If there are idiots at the EPA that still dispute that global warming is mostly man made it's because Bush had anybody that didn't toe the company line (i.e., "global warming is a myth") muzzled or fired from the dept.. 'Carbongate'? - In your wettest dream, Barton, ya tool.

  • Even if the cap and trade bill was generally a good thing, doesn't it bother anyone that congress wasn't allowed to read the 1400 pages that made up the bill? Shouldn't our congressional leaders have more respect for themselves than to vote on a bill when they can't even be certain what the bill contains?

They should have withheld from voting or voted against it on that principle alone. We can't maintain a democratic republic when our representatives act like puppets.

  • what a crock of shit

  • Das Leader says forget the facts, global warming allows the Tax.

  • lol

  • We have a scientist at the EPA.

    a scientist at the EPA.

    a (singular)

  • Well, you can't argue that massive massive chunks of ice have broken off the Antarctic, sea-levels have risen substantially, and the average global temperature has risen. The argument is what exactly is causing this rise in temperature. Not that global warming does not exist, that idea is toxic to our well-being.

  • and it's only 70 degrees in Michigan for a day time high in june-july and this year we don't need the air conditioner on at night in Alabama, because it's not that hot. tj

  • hey stupid fuck. do you understand the difference between climate and weather?

  • weather or climate it's only about Tax. tj ps a low and common vocabulary is an indication of the inferior government education system. Perhaps you are one of those that has been left behind.

  • sorry , english is only my third language, sorry sorry sorry that it is not as good as yours.

you were talking about the current weather and using it as a counterargument to climate change therefore you are a moron.

you do not understand that CO2 that was bound under earth is additionally emmitted in an unnatural way by cars and the industry to the atmosphere and that you can calculate the effect in temperature that it has on the global climate.

all you see is a democratical conspiracy.idiot!

  • imagine that, you can speak 3 languages and still lack understanding, amazing, atheist. tj

  • weather =/= climate.

    You should be embarrassed.

  • and you should be ashamed for being deluded to believe that human and especially American industry has caused global warming. Consider this. There have been frozen ice ages in the past, enough to freeze dinosaurs to death (maybe) BUT something caused the earth to warm enough to melt the great lakes. So what internal combustion engine caused that a few milliom years ago? Think about it, IT'S NATURE , not man made warming. tj ps, and i am embarrassed for those that can't think for themselves.

  • By God! This will take down the entire Obama administration!

How silly and desperate have the Republicans become? Also, why do journalists let them get away with this B.S.?

  • Because no one cares...it's getting so pathetic and nobody listens to them except their crazy religious base. I don't listen to them anymore or watch this vids. I'll look at the statement and move on. My volume is on mute lol. It's just become so ridiculous...they are just attention seekers.

  • Isn't this the same guy that didn't understand plate tectonics and asked the secretary of energy how oil got from Alaska to Texas?

  • Since GOP leaders are going to call Obama spitting on the sidewalk "Spitgate", and likely a Satanic summoning ritual to boot, this country has a problem.

A minority party - especially one without the votes to directly impede the majority - is SUPPOSED to serve the function of keeping the majority party honest. Their job is to sound an alarm when the majority gets out of line. But they've gone off the deep end, so nobody listens to them anymore. Problem = who's now watching the democrats?

  • "But [Republicans have] gone off the deep end, so nobody listens to them anymore. Problem = who's now watching the democrats? "

We could start voting in Greens.

  • Maybe it's time for a real 3rd party. Many repubs think dems are liberals and many dems think repubs are necons. How about a 3rd party viewed as moderate?

  • Maybe a third party based around common sense, reason, and having enough balls to stand against special interest.

Left or right, both of our major parties have been bought off by wall street and our financial institutions. Whatever good ideas you can find in either the liberal or conservative wings of our political system will be distorted and corrupted to the point where they no longer achieve anything beneficial after they reach the drafting committees.

  • that's right , we wouldn't want to confuse the majority with anything like the facts because they've already made up thier minds. Forget the facts we need global warming to increase the TAX. tj

  • tj - I think you missed my post's point. I was talking about the GOP leadership having lost all balance, reason, and perspective, and the consequent danger to our democracy when the minority party abdicates its watchdog role.

But since you bring it up, their respect for "facts" on this issue is a perfect example. Who in their right mind listens when a gop congressman talks about global warming? Yet this is an issue with huge financial stakes, exactly where a credible watchdog is needed.

  • therefore you would suggest what democrat as a credible watchdog? Maybe al gore? He has made a personal 100 million dollars by promoting global warming. Be sure to think kindly of uncle al when you are paying more for water, fuel and electricity. Everyone was so upset at big corps' excess profit but why are they not upset at BIG GOVERNMENT'S obscene tax profit that kills small business. Please don't miss my point, it's all about TAX. tj

  • Sigh...

If Gore was the only person trying to educate people about the hazards of global warming your argument might be halfway reasonable. But in fact virtually the entire scientific community is trying to educate the population about the hazards of global warming.

  • How much will the price of food increase because of the taxes on energy to produce food, heat a home or transport anything.? That is the REAL Hazard of false global warming proposed solutions. Without industry why would anyone need an engineer? Then what would you do? You argue against yourself thus lose even if you win the argument. tj

  • Yep, you clearly don't know anything about science. For the record the price of food has dropped significantly thanks to the advances made by scientifically literate people, do feel free to join their ranks.

ps. The world isn't flat either.

  • i've known since 1973 by reading monograph studies then that have shown the decrease of soil quality form top soil depths previously 24" deep had reduced to 1/2" thus requiring that an inferior food quality demands hybred seed that is inferior to natural food seed that can not grow in the depleted soil. It now requires 54 cups of broccoli to give the nutrients that were present in 1 cup of broccoli 50 years ago. Agri-business is killing you and all you do is thank them. How smart is that? tj

  • Industry and jobs and the like don't make a bit of difference if we can't breath the air and our water supply is completely poisoned and you know radiation is pouring through the swiss cheese ozone layer.

Priorities, readjust yours. Also a fitting fix to any problem is not sticking your fingers in your ear, shutting you eyes up tight and screaming "lalalala i can't hear you!"

  • worse then refusing to believe false science is to believe the neo-commie propaganda that causes you to love your slave master. tj

  • Ron Paul is the biggest advocate of loving and trusting your slave-master -- the huge multi-national corporate tyranny which runs the world.

  • there-fore Arrest ron paul with them all. i say ARREST the FED and restore The Constitution. tj

  • I say, support government OF THE PEOPLE, BY THE PEOPLE, AND FOR THE PEOPLE. And tax the shit out of the multi-national corporations.

    Nationalize health care,

    energy,

    telecommunications,

    education,

and the military (including weapons manufacturing.)

  • you really do not understand how taxation works. EVERY TIME they shoot for the big man's wallet , they hit the little man right between the eyes. Taxes all for the good of das fatherland. Go ahead and surrender your rights for security and you will get neither. Read History. tj

  • agreed

  • "therefore you would suggest what democrat as a credible watchdog?"

Absolutely not. That's my point. I don't think any group with incentives to abuse power can be trusted to self-regulate: not banks/financial firms, not police, not Big Biz, and not any political party. My point was that the GOP, by being so bat-shit crazy and claiming that any time Obama farts, it potentially nuclear Armageddon, have lost credibility, and thus abdicated their watchdog role as the minority party. This is BAD.

  • you point your finger at all the common scape goats, as well they are to blame, but you neglect to ascribe blame also to each individual that is selfishly self motivated. Individual responsibility and self reliance is required for good government. Good government requires good citizens. Have you met many good citizens lately? With today's level of individual responsibility & morality, any revolt against gov't would be a mirror of the French revolution, only bloodier. bad begets bad. tj

  • Comment removed

  • I leave a video where someone is defending Limbaugh after he turned an innocuous comment by Sotomayor into "How do you get ahead in an Obama administration? By hating white people," and come to this.

Moderate republicans and independents - I hope you've picked up on the fact that the GOP leaders (including their Dear Leader, Limbaugh, whom they all kowtow to) have lost their fucking minds.

The word "perspective" is now unknown in rightwing circles.

  • I love your name.

  • what was that drivel? i kind of nodded off while he was murmuring.

  • "if we fahnd out that endangerment fahnding idn't idn't idn't what it should be..."

    fucking moron.

that 'scientist' at the epa is NOT a climate scientist, he is an ECONOMIST. and his report was 'cut and pasted' from a conservatard blog, LMFAO!

  • "Carbongate"....yeah, that's never gonna catch on!

  • it probably will with the most-retarded segments of the repugnicant party. they'll probably call it "white water carbon gate"

  • Glad to see that the GOP loves staff level folks at the EPA so much. during the Bush Administration the GOP overturned, censored, and dismissed staff level recommendations all the time. Now not forwarding some crackpot at EPA(and I have known a few of them) is enough to call it a "-Gate", Please!

  • I'd like the denier to sign the following:

"When Global Warming becomes real, such as in famine, severe storms, economic upheavel, water shortages, I and my family will not participate in any government aid and will fend for myself"

  • Barton speaks with a forked tongue.

  • This is not an EPA science document. The author is an economist who does not understand climate science.

  • This is fox news, details and accurate facts are inconvenient.

  • Barton and Inhofe had their oil company shils trotting up for hearings during the past five years or so. Now we are going to have to listen to a fair and balanced sample of the scientific community.

  • I know how we can solve the budget. Since EVERY republican Senator now has no say with a 60 dem majority, why don't we stop paying them.

  • Wow, first Karl Rove and now this.

I'm starting to wonder...is it just me, or does the GOP actually WANT to be stupid?

  • They don't want to be stupid. I blame the Dunning-Kruger effect.

  • Hehe, I first had to look up the word, but now I fully agree. :):):)

  • That was a fantastic study, wasn't it?

  • so if one scientist say global warming isn't true... that means it is fact.... yeah scientists don't make mistakes....

  • "so if one scientist say global warming isn't true..."

As absurd as your statement is (deliberately), the EPA "report" Barton's referring to is even more preposterous. It was written, unsolicited by the EPA, by an economist with no training in climate science.

  • More Republican lies gate.

  • Joe Barton and the EPA report are about as relevant and intellectually stimulating as, well each other. I should have phrased that better, but when referring to Joe Barton, I don't want to waste A-grade material.

  • Carbongate ? what about Trustgate ? the man professed to be the anti-bush but turned into bush 2.0 more deceptive and more secretive. Will Americans never learn ?

  • uhmmm deceptive in what way? he is still on the ball with what he is doing

  • he promised an open governemtn, he hasn't delivered, he promised no lobbyists in Washington and broke his own rule in creating his cabinet, he promised to abandon partisanship, yet crowd himself with hyper partisans like emmanuel, he promised no new taxes on middle class, yet there have been and will be more. I could go on but I'm just a Canadian so what do I know ?

  • Obama has accomplished more in his first six months, and taken the country further in a radically different direction than it was going, than any president in history ever did, except maybe FDR.

Do you imagine the US government to be a sports car that can pivot on a dime? It takes time. Its a BIG job. And Bush left a GIGANTIC STEAMING PILE OF SHIT TO CLEAN UP.

Obama has just begun. Check back in a year.

  • that isn't even an answer.... you haven't explained anything

  • Its the truth. It explains a lot.

  • he has rehtorically said what he will do, but his actions don't always match his words. Bush messed up, but I don't see Obama any differently. Our relations with your coutnry are just as bad as they were with Bush.

  • "His actions dont match his words." Really?

Have you ever seen a president, in your life, come out with positive sweeping change after positive sweeping change like this president has done? Answer: no you havent.

Leadership and inspiration is what the president does -- that's his job. Obama's agenda is clear. And he makes significant steps EVERY DAY to achieve this agenda. On actions alone, this president is IMPRESSIVE TO AN HISTORICAL DEGREE.

  • as a Canadian who has watched the words and actions of past presidents rarely match, Obama is simply one in a progression of useless leaders who say one thing and do another. He isn't renegotiating NAFTA, he promised to, he lied. Just another politrickster as Peter Tosh called them. Gunning for your vote and returning little of what he promised to get that vote.

  • Okay Legion. I'm going to give him until at least Sept 11. Check back with me then, and we'll talk about Obama's accomplishments.

  • nice

  • you can give him all the time you want, the Federation of Canadian Municipalities is in the process of preparing to block all American companies for bidding on jobs in Trade War escalations given the buy American portion of the stimulus. So much for overturning the unfair policies of Nafta, which ALWAYS favoured Americans to begin with. during the election 80% of Canadians favoured him, now barely over 50% and dropping.

  • So lets just impeach him now, and appoint somebody else. How about Sarah Palin?

  • "So much for overturning the unfair policies of Nafta, which ALWAYS favoured Americans to begin with."

Boo hoo, maybe your government officials shouldn't have signed it then. Oh wait, they're largely a bunch of corporate dick suckers just like ours, silly me. Because the fundamental point that you miss is NAFTA wasn't about Americans or Canadians or Mexicans, it was about corporate interest and anti-unionism.

  • again I think you are right, our leaders are just like yours. I don't mind anti unionism but it should be followed by anti corporatism in order to be fully rounded.

  • Much of the anti-unionism started under Regan/Thatcher and emboldened with the help of NAFTA by many US corporations is fundamentally against the principles outlined in the 1st amendment and illegal. I'm not sure what your constitution says about it.

  • we are a parliamentary democracy with no real foudning documents or principles, so anything goes for the most part as long as most people agree, and even sometimes when they do not.

  • no he hasn't done that bad, he is just another political joke that a few morons bought into, but he is as all polticians are, liars, manipulators, and people who do more harm than good. She like anyone else would be no different. Power corrupts, so the only good government is a small one. It is the only possible way to reduce corruption without killing folks.

  • "The only good government is a small one"

So you'll be gettingthe next boat to Somalia. Or North Korea. Governments dont get much smaller.

Power in a corporate setting doesnt corrupt? Dont we need some government to regulate corrupt corporate CEOs? They can gamble at will, pollute at will?

Please watch Noam Chomsky vid (the first one in my favorites. Just click on my username. Then click on the first video.)

    Argue with Noam.

  • North Korea, are you serious ? I'd prefer you use a government like St Lucia or Afghanistan if you wanted to use that argument, because your big American government has never screwed other countries before ? Please.

corporate power does corrupt just like Political power, but your big governemnt hasn't exactly minimized your corruption issues has it ?

Noam is passe, a visage of human arrogance and conceit. I will watch it though.

  • "corporate power does corrupt just like Political power, but your big governemnt hasn't exactly minimized your corruption issues has it ?"

Bad argument. European nations, particularly northern ones are both larger and less corrupt. The key is government accountability, transparency, and civic involvement, rather than the apathy most North Americans have.

  • less corrupt ? the Danish practically invented the African slave trade on their own. they all have probelms with Racism, not to mention islamophobia. I agree accountability and transparency are vital, but the US is no better than we or the Europeans are.

  • Islamophobia? Is that the fear of ridiculous religions that subjugate women, stone human beings in the name of "god," and try to squelch the free speech of anyone who finds these practices appalling?

  • I've grown up with and around muslims my whole life, never had any women subjugated around us, nor any stonings, so there is a difference between the media flash and reality of the people. Never met a muslim who tried to bomb anything, hence I call out the dutch and norwegians and their ilk for their islamophobia.

  • And yet such things happen (frighteningly regularly) in Muslim countries. You live in Canada (a secular Western liberal democracy) where such things are frowned upon. They happen anyway. But they are frowned upon.

The monotheistic patriarchal fundamentalist religions of the world are ridiculous and dangerous, and the Danish are right to despise them. We all should.

  • such things happen in secular societies just the same. the highest cases of rape and pedophilia exist in secular countries, doesn't mean I wish to tar all secular folks with the same brush. you think a little simplistically for my tastes. Religions are simply forms of control their are not the root of evil nor of oppression, those are human conditions. If you despise the muslim world perhaps they are right to despise you too ? apply chomsky's thinking to your argument, intellectual honesty

  • I would love to hear the source of your "statistics" on rape and pedophilia. Do you think we have accurate numbers on rape and pedophilia for Iran? Pakistan? Where would we get such "statistics?" We do have statistics on internet porn use for those countries (which are easily obtained.) Pakistan is #1 Iran is #2 in the world.

All human beings everywhere should despise ALL MONOTHEISTIC, PATRIARCHAL FUNDAMENTALIST RELIGION -- that includes Christianity, Judaism, Islam. All inhibit human progress

  • "the Danish practically invented the African slave trade on their own."

I didn't realize it was still the 17th century.

    "islamophobia"

I see the conditioning has worked well on this test subject.

"but the US is no better than we or the Europeans are"

I don't contest that, in fact my argument was the US is worse.

  • it isn't the 17th century, but apples rarely fall far from their trees. it was the decendants of the Danish who populate South Africa and perpetuated apartheid.

I agree with your last statement

  • Solving corporate corruption will take a big government.

Noam Chomsky is passe? And you dont like his "visage?" How about his ARGUMENTS, and his COMMAND OF FACTS?

Actually, after all these years of your "libertarian" (a term which is misused in America, but which YOU will understand as the exact opposite of its actual meaning, Kind of like the word "conservative,") Alan Greenspan (big Ayn Rand fan,) HAVE ADMITTED THAT THEIR ECONOMIC THEORIES WERE WRONG.

    So Chomsky is ever-more revelant.

  • so it takes corruption to fight corruption then ? that is your argument ?

Noam is passe, like many other 20th century thinkers like Rand or Greenspan. this is a new millenium, andf the old guard is dying slowly. Noam is a very talented linguist, but I don't think his grasp of facts is nearly as impressive as his command of English. chomsky is relevant in university, then after a few years in the real world, not so much.

  • Chomsky has always perplexed me as someone who seems to have good intentions ... yet has never done anything serious to change the world or provide a new understanding. some decent ideas yet self indulgant, and sometimes petty.

  • Chomsky "has never done anything serious to change the world." Do you really think this is a truthful statement? Or are you just mouth-farting like Limbaugh?

Noam is NOTHING LIKE Rand or Greenspan. Their (R and G's) ideas have been refuted handily. Chomsky's CONTINUE TO BE AFFIRMED WITH EACH PASSING DAY. He is MORE RELEVANT THAN EVER.

And no, that is not my argument. Good government (like Jefferson advocated) is the only thing that can curb human corruption.

  • good government is an oxymoron, impossible when power is available for those who wish to seek it through election.

I do think that was a truthful statement, Limbaugh gets no play round these parts. Noam is in my reaosning just like the both, existing in a bubble of his own ideas, dismissing the realities of the world that do not fit his hypothesis. I saw that in his discussions with Buckley, on your own page. maybe you agree with him too much to effectively criticize or deconstruct him.

  • Your dislike of Noam Chomsky doesnt change the FACT that the statement, "he has never done anything serious to change the world," is A BLATANTLY FALSE STATEMENT.

"Those who seek power through election" are worse than those who seek power through religion or money hoarding?

The only difference between government power and money power, is that in government power, THE PEOPLE CAN VOTE THE BASTARDS OUT. The people have no such power with corporations or churches -- thats REAL, UNBRIDLED,TYRANNY.

  • democracies aren't much better than dictatorships, ask the Persians that right now, or ask the Venezuelans or the Hondurans. Sorry government power is ultimate power because it can extend itself over any other field and as such is prone to corruption of the highest level. That you magically seem to think that voting makes this ok doesn't make any sense. Did voting stop Bush ? nope. Did voting stop hitler ? nope. Did voting stop any misguided regime from their misdeeds ?

  • The vote gives the average citizen SOME power. With huge multi-national corporations, and financial giants, like Goldman Sacs, there is NO POWER to affect them. So what's better, some or none?

Yes, the power of the vote to control the affairs of a huge, very politically divided, country is slow. But it can eventually work. The vote DID finally stop the Bush bulldozer -- we elected Barack Obama. Power to the people!!

The slowness can be changed, some. Give free airtime to political candidates.

  • yes I'm not saying voting is bad, only that in many cases it does little to affect change. a weak government can still regulate effectively banks and multinationals in its border without employing a quarter of the population.

You elected Obama who is Bush 2.0, not much change in the way your country deals with mine, so no change as far as we are concerned. In fact Bush played better with us than Obama has been since he got in, but I hope in the next year or so that will change....

  • voting changed the way you look at your own country, gave you some dignity back, but it hasn't affected us north of the 49th in ANY single positive way. In fact your president is trying to convince our Prime Minister to stay in Afghanistan despite our giving notice last year that 2011 will be our last year. Drawing us further into a war we no longer care about. so sing your sychophantish praise all you want, only actions will change our view.

  • "the only good government is a small one."

yeah, because that worked so well in the late 19th century with sweat shops, company towns, lawless frontiers, filthy and fatal food production, labor abuses, oh the list goes on and on. LOL, john galt is broken and crawling on his knees.

  • the flipside is large governments free to engage in wars of attrition, who don't enable good trade and employment opportunities ... the flip side is just as true for large governments, look at Zimbabwe. I'm not saying no governemnt, but certainly a weaker smaller one not free to do as it pleases. control on corruption can only happen when power is limited.

  • Actually, John Galt starved to death when he moved to that village and then realized that, after years of being waited on by a nice, undocumented couple from Honduras, he'd never learned how to use a can opener.

  • LOL!

  • that's the dumbest fucking thing I've ever heard.

  • Really?

Climate change is part of the natural cycle, no doubt, but that doesn't mean humans are also having an effect....The 2 are not mutually exclusive.

Which part do you disagree with: That CO2 causes climate change, or that we are pumping billions upon billions of tons of Co2 into the atmosphere on a yearly basis?

  • both are true... ever been in a greenhouse?

  • yes we use them every year to make sure people can eat locally in the great white north

  • Also, your post suggests that scientists disagree with Al Gore. There is a preponderance of evidence that shows that climate change is real, it's happening right now, and that if we don't attempt to mitigate it, there will be enormous negative consequences such as ecosystem destruction, collapse of fisheries, and collapse of agriculture.

  • "also why are the other planets getting warmer as well?"

You cannot discredit the science regarding our own planet by claiming it's accurate for OTHER planets for which we have much less data.

You fail with that argument. Have any others?

You really need to watch the series by greenman3610.

  • you better brace yourself, Baby, there's more to come, remember it was reported that the way Obama preferred his hamburger was un-American.

  • Then you obviously don't watch Fox News very often.

  • Why would I watch the channel that is the propaganda wing of the republican party?
