But the thing he's not doing is he's not doing is shooting and locking out. Because if you font shoot and lock out they're either going to truck your ass or they'll just shoot lock out and pull u out their way.
If youre watching this listen to this guy. He knows wat he is doing. A great vid for new OL. I always tell my guys to let their feet chase their hands. Dont lunge or stand straight up. Stay low in that power zone. Take short 6" steps and keep your hands on cloth. Grab it and pull it to you after you throw your hands. This allows the blocker to dictate the tide of the battle.
I freakin sprained my wrist because in my varsity middle school game this kid who had at least a foot on me and at least 100 pounds grabbed me and threw me down when I tried to block him
I always have a problem blocking cause some of the people I go against always rush inside (defensive tackle) and I'm a strong tackle....do I hit them, hit them then block (but it'll be way harder),or just do the stands and receive the blow?
Im 5 11 205 and all the time in practice i have to block a d linemen that is 6 1 240 all i have to do is grab him by the pads an throw him to the ground and im only 13 and so is he
im playing freshman football and im a center its going to b pretty rough seeing the fact that im tiny compared to everyone but im the strongest though
It sux cuz im actually one of the smaller guys on the team, but yet i play tight end. I usually have to down block D tackles who are twice my size. All i am able to do is hold my ground till the RB gets past because it is not likely i can drive sum1 who is 200 pounds...
the question is how to block a smaller yet quicker guy. im 6'6 and i can handle big defensive players. but those guys like dwight freeney and elvis dummervil are hard to block.
@layziehorse72 Ya, I know. I play right tackle. I could block a 6'2 defensive lineman, when im only 5'10, but i hate having to block outside linbackers. ESPECIALLY CORNERBACKS COMING ON THE BLITZ!!! I just try to push em down with my arms.
im 15 years old im 6'5 297 lbs i play o line just started about a week ago and 99% of the time the d line dont go for me head on (last guy got rocked) any tips for me on what i should do or what i should work on?
@godie1991 OH DEAR LORD. Read the video title. Not about the stance. Not a comprehensive guide on being a lineman. No. It is about blocking a bigger opponent. Which to be fair only needs three words, "Lowest Man Wins", but still.
im starting with a high school program and i have only 6 linemen all are over 6'0 and 250 pounds can you give me some pass protection tips we have great WR and a great QB he is a gunslinger
incredible video on Technique Rick my son has been watching your videos religiously keep them coming. Your experience is priceless to kids who want to get better!!!!! thanks for sharing the knowledge
dang those guys are small, there definitly gana meet bigger guys. but yeah what that other guy said yu have to explode, pump yur feet an as soon as yu stand up yur screwed an a half....im a big guy really strong for my age and a good linemen an it really does help if yu are in better shape than the guy in front of yu
@TheM40A3beast Techinically, no it is not legal to throw someone down. it also is ot legal to grab but a lot of athletes do it and take their chances on getting away with it. the key is to learn to force them to release the hold.
@TheM40A3beast i am a ofeensive linemen for a provincial winning team in Canada and i have started ever since i have been with the program and yes we are allowed to grab the chest area of the shoulder pads as long and the other player is infront of us, if they swim or rip past you, you have to let go or else it is a holding call
@TheM40A3beast actually the defense can grab you however the want as long as its not on the facemask or any other part of the helmet. Its one of the unfair parts about being an offensive lineman
How to block a bigger guy- Keep your feet moving! if your feet stop or you try to plant and hold him there your screwed, practice hand fighting, what i mean by that is never let him touch you, swat his hands away and keep his hands outside your shoulder pads, dont you dare stand up unless you promptly wanna be sat down, and explode! every play you gotta pop him so hard you take his breath away, and never give the inside away, and trust your fellow lineman to be there doin the same as you!!
@myosource agreed but morst refs will not call it if you grab inside the frame and do not inpeed his movement from side to side cause everybody grabs the chest it gives more control (but dont do it XD)
@myosource Im not sure of regulations for your league but ever since fourth grade (im a senior now) i have had hands inside slight grab Elbows inside, thumbs up, punching with the meat of my hands....
@myosource thats legally but if ur good at it and you can kkep him in tigh slip ur fingers under his pads and steer him ive unhooked straps before that way
if you can get a hold on his chestplate, do it - the only way they'll call holding is if your hands get outside of your frame. in other words, just keep him in front of you
@timmehboii your not supposed to, and no coach will admit to it but if you grab onto the chest plate inside the shoulders and keep the d-lineman squared up to you, the ref wont call it, most linemen do it, its impossible for a ref to tell if ur hands are clentched or not
man i remember freshmen year good times lol. good luck to you teams success. The o linemen are small but i don't know i live in Florida so usually freshmen they are 2x the size so i have no idea lol.
Thank you for the compliment. I played D 2 for a short time and had to stop due to a severe concussion. My experience has been from many years of coaching and being the guy willing to take a weak or inexperienced team and trying to develop a system around the personnel. My last two years we have competed in Varsity football 11 man with 15-18 guys. it forces you to adapt to the athletes and the abilities.
Thank you. Our guys work hard and go out every game and give it everything they have. we teach them to get low and be quick. We also teach them to work for position by being quick and just getting between the defender and the ball carrier. the smaller guys are not going to push big guys around and we compensate by running from a pistol or short shot gun with a lot of motion, shifting and misdirection. If our guys know where the ball is going they can seal and be very effective.
How's your team doing I mean I'm sorry no disrespect, but all the technique in the world may make a little bit of a difference, but if one of our DT's went up against a 117 lb. er we would dominate. I mean I'm not trying to be disrespectful, but how do you even manage?
lol i havnt blocked anyone bigger than me yet, tohugh im just a freshmen, well even when i was starting on varsity for a few games, im sure it will happen though
because we are working on seal blocking and trying to create a seam . chop blocking allows the fefender to step over you or create a pile that forces the ball carrier to change direction.
@hutchthecruck thats fine but what if the ball is going into your hole? even if u chop him he still migth be able to trip up the back on the way through
@hutchthecruck dude im a o-linemen, im 5"6 210lb and in a past game i was blocking a 6"8 350lb d-tackle and all i had to do was pop him fast with my hands and drive with my hips and he was done. getting under his pads was easy. btw im 15
@MadMiner59 for those big guys all you need to do most of the time is just pop him once and get him off balance. once you do that just drive the shit out of him.
good shit. playin' guard in high school i usually had to take on bigger guys than me and staying lower than them worked. of course, i side from cut blocking, it was good technique to pick up.
Thank you. Mr. Siglar donated his time to teach these young players that had never played football before. The were all first year players that just formed a team at a small private school. Mr. Siglar did not ask for anything except for them to work hard and participate.
WOW! Now thats what you call giving back...And if these first year players persistently work on the techniques that he is showing them, they will be good or even GREAT O L.
I think this is the best instructional video on youtube for o-line. Its better to see a former player coaching instead of a dude that looks like a p.e. teacher. Siglar obviously has the right idea. Anytime a former player gives you tips you should listen. Forget what his team "looks" like as long as they get after it that is all that counts.
Thank you. many athletes do not look at the instructional part of this video. they seem to focus on how good they think they are and make fun of other athletes that may not have the experience. very sad.
these guys had never played football prior to this training. they were much better by the end ofr the year. one thing for sure, they got better and they can spell.
But the thing he's not doing is he's not doing is shooting and locking out. Because if you font shoot and lock out they're either going to truck your ass or they'll just shoot lock out and pull u out their way.
