  • I LOVE Portnoy's drumming and I LOVE Mangini's drumming. Both are incredible and comparing them is like comparing me to any other Dream Theater fan boy. It just doesn't work. :D

  • >People thinking Systematic Chaos and Black Clouds were good.

Hahah, wow. Gotta love the unconditional fanboys.

  • @SpaceDyeDream I'm not unconditional I just know good music ;)

  • Mike Mangina

  • Gay.

  • I've watched Mangini's videos since the firsts on the internet..but now we have the Portnoy's bitches hating them. Don't get me wrong, I like Portnoy since I was 8 back on 1990. I didn't even know that I would like DT for over 20years.I don't see the point of compare this two monsters. They are both high skilled drummers AND musicians.

    >IMHO, most people can't understand neither appreciate the musicality of Mangini's solos, they just expect the aggressive Portnoy's style. For these, GTFO!

  • Two words:

    Dennis Chambers.

Hey MIke...Chambers needs someone to caddy his stick bag. Interested?

  • dum cha cha dum dum drrrrr cha dum pssssss cha cha dum

  • @TheAlphafly lol why? just why?

  • Mike Mangini Incredible Drum Solo???????????? WHAT THE H IS THIS ???? you guys have to see mike portnoy he is really amazing magini has the speed but he hasnt the technique but portnoy has both of them the speed and the technique

  • @sebtek1823 Portnoy can suck Mangini's cock....

  • Comment removed

  • @tatertottattum Compositional skills define a musician. That is all...

  • @10Plaguesofficial That doesn't change the fact, now, does it?

  • @tatertottattum No lol it kinda does. Portnoy's the better writer, end of. Therefore he's the better drummer.

  • @10Plaguesofficial Er... not quite sure your facts are straight there bro... XD

  • @10Plaguesofficial Thats funny considering their last 2 albums blew, and now with him gone, they are good again... Funny....

  • @tastefulphrasing The last 2 albums blew? Are you insane? I admit Systematic is a weaker album but black clouds is amazing, definitely one of their best in my opinion. With the new album you can hear that Portnoy's missing cos the drumming is way more repetitive and the theatrical element isn't there, which is the only down side to it. Plus Portnoys lyrics were great aswell, I can't really tell what Mangini's brought to the table, but I'd definitely have preferred Portnoy's rendition.

  • @10Plaguesofficial Systematic? Weaker (not that silver linings is weak at all either, neither are)? What is WRONG with you people?

  • @tatertottattum Compared to other albums, I'd say it is.

  • @tatertottattum i appreciate your opinion but as a drummer i recognize his incredible speed but that s all .... sorry but his solos suck and they are in some cases ridiculous

  • @sebtek1823 So his solos suck. He's still a fab drummer. lol.

  • @sebtek1823 You are clearly uneducated.

  • Very good drummer but to me a terrible solist.

  • Best drummer job in the universe, being part of the DT crew...

  • You know what makes me hate this guy so much?? He just hits the drums randomly with a lot of speed... But he sounds terribly... Where's the musicianship that Donati and Minnemann has shown?? Mangini is great. Ok. But he doesn't have Donati's fluidity... I don't like Mangini's drumming. There's an emptiness, something absent in his drumming. I heartly hope a great DT album with him at the sticks, but it won't change my opinion about his drumming.

  • @SalesKako Obviously you just don't realize what he's doing then. Everything he's playing here is absolutely ridiculous

  • I'd actually want to see Mike wear the "Infinite Ammo" bandana again.

  • @CthuluHasChannel I love you

  • Welcome to DREAM THEATER MIKE MANGINI!

  • fastest drummer in the world,no doubt.

  • Fuck whether his good or not... He's got the best drummer's job available nowadays whether you like it or not...

  • @claudiodxe Best my ass. More like lamest.

  • For anyone bad-mouthing Mangini I challenge you to play triple meters like he can at 20-25 bps. With one fucking hand.

  • Aint got shit on Niel Purt.

  • @1beowulf12

Dude, first learn how to play then learn to spell!

  • You guys, it's by NO MEANS Mikes top end! What are you sick? He's the most unique drummer of all time, has the fastest hands, can play in dual-time for petes sake, nobody's ever played this way, ever, he's the first! Clocked at more than 20 beats per second! Want to see a super drummer? Check out Gene Krupa! In a video from his "Benny Goodman" days, a song that has him, Lionel Hampton and Goodman trading riffs, faster and faster, Krupa kicks everyone's butt! Unreal for his day!! You'll see!

  • This is sooo frickin difficult to keep together in your head O.o much less play it

  • To label this video as "Mike Mangini Incredible Drum Solo" is the biggest fucking insult to Mike Mangini in the history of YouTube. What the fuck is wrong with you?

  • An early drum solo from Mike. What can I say, what can I say..... Good god...

    watch?v=9x6HnVLdNiI

  • I'm not a drummer (yet), but his kick work really impresses me, very dynamic.

  • Mike Portnoy will always be the only one. But. This. Guy. Is. GOOD. And capable of filling him in. Mike is just as good as Mike.

  • not my style, i still enjoyed the beat. Max Duhamel from Kataklysm will always impress me the most along with Martin Maurais

  • Mike wecome to the DREAM THEATER! but Mike Portnoy will be always the only one :)

  • hes a great drummer, i just dont think hes the right one for DT. his style is too... quiet... to be perfectly honest, i dont really like his style

  • portnoy can do this with his toes

  • lol can anyone tell me whats incredible about this -.- one of the most boring drum solos Ive ever heard

  • A lot of you faggots are so bitchy. Like Mike Portnoy plays with any feeling? BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH He's as straight forward as they come. Mike Portnoy is an OKAY drummer at best.

  • @MawcDrums "OKAY drummer at best" ? Even Mangini wouldn't call him "OKAY"

  • @MawcDrums he's the drummer in a metal band. besides, how do you play drums with feeling? by getting into it? cuz he got really into it.

  • @MawcDrums Lol, like almighty you can have a say in anyhting music related. U are a nobody and will be treated as such until u step up and show that ur word means anything

  • @ViciousDeliciousIV And your word does? Don't make me LOL.

  • @MawcDrums Im encouraging u to become famous and prove us all wrong. That way, ud be rich, famous, and no longer a waste of life, and we would get more music. win win

  • @ViciousDeliciousIV It's notmy goal to become a famous musician, but you don't have to be a famous musician to have an opinion on another musician. I really enjoy Portnoy's playing in the context of Dream Theater, that being said I don't think he's the best drummer out there, he does play in a very straightforward manner. Mike Mangini is definitely amazing, but he has his flaws as well. Look up Gavin Harrison from Porcupine Tree, or Virgil Donati for some serious drummage.

  • @MawcDrums Alright then. My bad if I saw ur first comment as an offense to Portnoy. Just ticks me off when people put down musicians for the sake of proving that another one is better

  • @ViciousDeliciousIV :) e-high five

  • Mike have always had a semi-abstract style to his solos, everyone who's disliking this video is just too stupid to enjoy it.

  • fuck, aquiles priester the best!!

    yes aquiles dream theater.

  • oh, and that headband and the cut-off sleeves? welcome to 1987.

  • what was so incredible about that? mangini is wicked fast and is great with polyrhythms, but he bores me to tears. i will be hoping he's not portnoy's replacement. i've never heard a drummer with less feeling. ever.

i feel the same way about jordan rudess on keyboard. moore and sherinian were far more interesting.

  • Chuck Norris couldnt do it faster ...

  • @BIGMAXW96

chucks calender goes from march 31st to april 2nd cause no one fools chuck ...

  • mike for DT!

  • @TheGerthax I agree with you. Mike...Portnoy.....for DT...

  • theres my teacher right there

  • @StephenDrummer your teacher is isane !

  • heyIncredible Technique and I know the time it takes to get that ability thats why I made my 2 PART VIDEO 4 DRM R'S called

    "MARK WHITE Steve White DRUMBEATSTROKE"

STROKE is the NO.1 INCAPACITATOR in the west and thats how I was PARALYSED and I still play with just !H&!Fonly PLS spread the link to my video with ALL DRM R'S[& ask them to share it aswell]

pls dont worry Iearn NO money from this video

I am just try to be a decent human THANKYOU VERY MUCH

    ..mark white..

  • jajajajajajaaj technique!!!

  • Pearl Reference <3

  • Zajebisty on jest!

  • I am not a drummer. I play guitar. All I have to say is that Mike Mangini is amazing. I have not seen this type of talent since Neil Peart or Stewart Copeland. DAM GOOD FILLS.

  • Rack drum set ups look like shit... Mangini is acontrol freak w/great chops. I wish he and some other amzing polyrythminsts would cool out. Polyrythms don't make good music in my opinion.

  • @drummerforreal1 listen to meshuggah. the drummer is amazing with polyrythms. It sounds great with the music as well.

  • @uhstud68 Haacke is a slow turd compared to Mangini.

  • @drummerforreal1 first of all its not about being fast. haake can groove so well. but it doesnt matter cuz they both are good in their own ways.

  • @uhstud68 You are right. IT's not ALL about being fast. But like Buddy Rich said and I agree, "all drummers are jealous of fast drummers". That's because not everybody can be fast. But every drummer can learn groove. It;s just the very best drummers that have that extra "speed" dimension. Those are my hero's. BOth Haacke and Mangini spend too much time on lame and unpleasant sounding polyrythms IMO though

  • @drummerforreal1 Anybody can play fast double kick with enough practice. Give me great fast hand chops. Guys like Portnoy, Adler, Yueng, Roddy focus way too much on the double kick in my opinion. And ive seen fast drummers who couldn't groove for shit.

  • @THEYahamaDrummer why is portnoy's name in there. he isnt all about double bass. he is mostly odd time signatures and quads.

  • @THEYahamaDrummer I agree w/you about modern double dum dum bas drum beaters. They have almost got me to hate double bass drums anymore. Listen up people!!!! Great drumming was, is and will always be about the hands and tremendous stick control. Don't believe me? Suffer then, suck butthair and don't brush...

  • by damning double kick (in any form) you've shown the demise of your own progression by eliminating available frontiers.

  • @drummerforreal1 you do realize that mike mangini hold two world records for speed drumming. And im sorry but u are wrong. u can practice every day and get faster but some people can never learn how to groove. Buddy rich said that because there wasnt many fast drummers back then. but anyways, watch some of mangini's old solo's.

  • horrible

  • this is poo :L

  • I really like that set up esp. with those effect cymbals

  • my mother has a hairy mangini

  • @pockthehairy And we need to know this why? More importantly, how do you know this?!?

  • @ThomasMetal75 i passed it on the way out

  • It's good, but he could do much better.

  • I actuall liked it :)

  • I like Mike. He is always pushing. His styles has a mechanical side which for experienced players like me(45yrs) tends to sound choppy. But the MOST important thing about that is great is he is versatile as a lizard and has real Firepower when called upon! That I believe is a reliable overall assessment of this short clip. Someone say Amen!

  • Wow. Joey Jordison Solo's? How did he get in the conversation? You mean his trainwreck quad rolls and crappy beats? I've heard about 4 of his solos and they all sound the same. Try Jojo Mayer, Dave Weckl, Horacio Hernandez, Buddy Rich, Vinnie Colaiuta,, Todd Sucherman, Dennis Chambers, real drummers.

  • @tcslick420 ok. we all need to chill out with comparing drummers. I guaruntee that mangini can do things that all of those drummers cannot do. and vise versa. Each drummer has a strong point and a weak one. Stop comparing and just enjoy. Btw joey jordison just sucks lol

  • INCREDEBLY BORING... (woo irony pains..)

    #FAIL

  • This guy is an amazing drummer, but this video does nothing to showcase it. Just seems like he was showing off an example of an 11/8 beat, not showcasing what can be done with it.

  • Incredible??? Yes, it's incredeble cause it's a lot of bad.

  • This guy (Mangini) is arguably the best drummer in the world. The guy teaches at Berkley, has played with Vai and is a World record holder. I am sorry, but any onev that trues to discredit this man is a just a plan 'ol asshole, Mangini rules!

  • @Tsully im friends with his nephew in real life

  • @Tsully lmao? The best drummer in the world is NOT BY A LONG SHOT mangini. Listen to The Rev and some Joey Jordison solo's.

  • @marajuana10 That's your opinion dude, I'm not going to get into an argument over something subjective. Personally, I think Jordison is great, but a little a overrated

  • believe me, iceflame5 knows what he's talking about. this guys is insane!

  • All you people who say you don't like his style and who think he sucks, be mindful that he's playing a drum beat in 11/8 time. NOW THAT'S FUCKING INSANE. I'm not even a drummer and I can recognize his amazing skill level.

  • @iceflame5

You said you weren't a drummer, and you could "still" recognize his amazing skill.

The only thing not being a drummer means is that you don't know what the fuck you're talking about.

If you aren't a drummer, you have no business saying how good drummers are or aren't.

    Fuck you, bro.

  • hey im learning music theroy and man im lost i wish i took another instrument but how do u know its in 11/8 timing?

  • It's an odd time signature because it sounds like he always hits the hi-hat to his left on top of the beat. The lower tom hit at the beginning of the solo signals the beginning of his ll/8 vamp. If you count to 11 quickly in time with the beat and the loop the series again immediately after, you'll notice that the hi-hat hit lands on 1. I guess I feel the main impulse as quarter notes, in which you would count to 5 twice as slow as counting to 11, and then you would add an 8th note (1/2 duration

  • ahh ok and i c ur a piano player i have so much respect for u guys as much as i dont like that instrument but u guys know so much its not even funny but i have no respect for my teacher he is an ass and cant explain stuff but thanks man alot of this makes sense

  • magic.

  • nice i wish it was longer

  • thats what she said.

  • ur mom

  • to you.

  • thats what she said

  • arr just wen i was getting into it it finished dude PLEASE UP LOAD THE FULL vERSION (if it exists)

  • i saw this guy at a clinic it was intense

  • he's playing 4 sets of hi-hats...how much more u want?

  • Comment removed

  • could have been cool if it lasted longer then 30 seconds

  • (Without having to watch the video and simply by reading some comments here) it could be nice to be polite and constructive with the comments...having drummed off-&-on since 1973, I confess that I'm a fair distance away from being excellent or phenomenal...it's easy to be an armchair critic...it's OK if you don't feel impressed by a drummer's skill or style - but being mean and negative is not necessary...(for drummers) just think back to when YOU could not keep a simple beat

  • Mangini is a true musician and an artist. Like him or leave him, everything else is opinion.

  • Thanks for your comment...I respect his musicianship...

  • @davss5 I agree. however, I think most people's negative attitudes come in when they realize they this is the person's JOB, and guys like Mangini are making pretty decent money, not to mention being showered with endorsements. so when a player at this caliber doesn't play at the level he is supposedly at, it creates alot of frustration. personally I don't see anything in Mangini's playing that's stellar on any level. therefore, I'm frustrated by his success.

  • @avedisdrummer989 I appreciate your comments...I would still hope that people could be positive (and offer constructive critcism) in their comments - but I can also see how a person could feel frustrated that a drummer to be given honor (etc.) when it may not be (by consensus) warranted (almost as if it is an "injustice" or "lie")...

  • @avedisdrummer989 Oops...slight grammatical error - that should have been "... that a drummer is given honor..."

  • thats not even one of the best iv seen...

  • Dude you guys have no sence of respect towards drummers maybe this wasnt the best you've seen but you should at least try to enjoy it and respect that he has gotten this far and you havent assholes!

  • @allegrah

    Right on brother

  • @allegrah amen to that!

  • man, these cymbals sound so crisp, and the heads do to,

  • not to mention neil peart, danny carrey, or thomas pridgen

  • seriously way to fucking long. i cant believe i would waste my time waatching suck short clip!

  • Could it be any shorter??? Waste of time watching this

  • i concur

  • that was super gay.

  • this is like rodney mullen in skating hes good but i just dont like his style of drummin

  • "incredible" drum solo? Gimme a break.

  • Shiiiiiit!!

  • no, travis is over rated.

I mean he is good, but not as good as people make him seem.

  • Comment removed

  • That could have evolved to a good drum solo, but we only got 30 seconds...

  • To call joey a shit drummer is stupid he's not shit although there are alot better. Although i can't say i like this guys style

  • yeah i like his technicality and speed and all that but i don't like the style either.

  • tasty

  • kind of just random noises, lots of quick flicks on each drum. not too smooth. i like them like the end of yyz. neil pert on yyz is one of my favorite solos.

  • joey isn't faster than Mike Mangini...

and mike is a lot better.

  • joey is only speed

  • if u found a way even here to cuss on each other with racial words, and calling names on different countries, then u r complete brainless idiots

  • I don't see any americans on here typing in all caps bashing other people from other countries simply because they're from that country. Our government sucks (whose doesn't honestly?), but atleast some of us have a little maturity.

Aside from this, I still think jazz drummers are over all more impressive than prog rock drummers.

  • agreed on both parts

  • Comment removed

  • Mike Mangini and Mike Portnoy are both legends! On another note, for those who are interested in guitarists, check out Bob Zabek, his playing is sexual!

  • ...Why can't we all just be friends?

  • Mike mangini is sick. You should all look up bobby jarzombek. He's ridiculous.

  • i'd like to thank everybody for their support all these years!

I'll continue to offer as a drummer till i get old..because your love can make me play drums forever..

thank you again guys and gays.

and "sas stavrofilo & sas gamao ti mana" :D

  • I know about mangini..and you have a photo of jordison in your profile shithead!

    see this /watch?v=JVequ2XHb4M

and tony royster and then talk about drumming, you little peace of crap..

    -how can i help you?

    -fuck oooofff

take my dick in your mouth faggot :D

  • this guy is amazing! just cuz this is basic shizz doesnt mean he sucks. go look him up scrubs and eat your faggot words.

  • maybe switch to MIke PORTNOY?

  • portnoy is great but he is not as good as everyone says he is, he does not do many things that involve good technique, he is really really good, one of the best, but when you listen to some of his songs, they are not that hard.

  • Thank god there are two of us on this earth :o)

MP is an incredible musician and studio drummer, but not a technician.

Proof ? His popularity, due to two things: his musical genius, and how technically attainable he is. Practice intelligently for a couple years and there's nothing he does you won't be able to. He knows it, by the way.

He still changed the way we look at drums, and inspires and motivates so many with mind-blowing music.

That is his real achievement to me, not drum technique.

  • i know, he produces amazing music and he blows my mind at how he can do all of these changes in timing right in the middle of a song, he can be just doing a normal 4/4 beat then he is doing a fill is 5/4 then comes right back on in 4/4 and is in perfect timing and everything, that is what makes him a music genius, but i can do some things he can't do, but he still is one of the best drummers even though he is not very technical like, jojo mayer and benny greb.

  • this guy suuuuuuuuuuuuuucks!!!!!

  • what the fuck did you say??? he is one of the best rock drummers

  • i said that mangini is the worst drummer ever.. a man with one hand beat mangini in a drum battle obviously you don't know shit about drumming. i am a drummer and i play quite impressive. i am very fast and i maybe have the best technique in USA. Everyone who saw me play told me that.. they admire me because i am very good with my job. -Bromoteknada is the best drummer? -Yeah he is!Everybody knows that dude! -Ok,you're right -I know that I'm fucking right you stupid fuck
